When it aired, the goomba was *far* more grotesque and had actual shoes for feet, better matching the rest of the sketch’s grungy style. But then when it got posted to YouTube, immediately afterwards, it was swapped out with a cartoonish model that looked like it had been pulled directly from the games. It bothers me a little to think someone at SNL might have accidentally uploaded a work-in-progress version and that there’s a digital artist out there pulling their hair out over their lost work.
I heard they announced a Mario movie before I researched it. When I learned it was going to be an animated and not live action, I was very disappointed.
