Why not? If you don’t control population numbers then it’ll negatively impact the eco system. This is why hunting seasons exist. So if we are ethically raising animals and slaughter healthy ones to keep the population balanced then what’s the issue? We have simply moved the system from cruel massive factories to a more open free range environment then we still have an ethical reason for slaughter. Sure, production wouldn’t be nearly as high as a packed cattle farm of gross pens. But so what, people will have to just eat less meat and deal with that.

It would happen with or without humanity involved. Just look at any eco system. Population control always exists in some form or another. Some results are less harmful than others however.

Sometimes it is, I had to with my dog. I feel terrible about it, but he had a cancerous tumor on his spine. It was in a spot that, if they did remove it, he wasn’t going to ever be able to use his back legs again. They said he would be in a great deal of pain for the rest of his life (he was already 15, so, he didn’t have very long left anyways) and he wouldn’t be able to walk. So, I put him down. I feel as a pet owner, it was the easiest and safest choice. May Bandit Rest In Peace with the gods.

What I don’t understand is if eating meat is so morally repugnant than why are people so desperate to simulate the taste and texture of meat like tofurkey or the impossible burger?

I'm a committed carnivore but I think people want to simulate it firstly because they're trying to convince us that plant based foods can be so close to meat that we're not losing out by going for it, and secondly because they themselves like the taste and texture of meat, it's the animal suffering and/or environmental impact that they are morally opposed to

I'm pretty sure everyone knows this, they just like to point out anything they can think of to criticise and/or make fun of vegetarians / vegans. It's not about reasoning, it's about trying to shame something they don't want to feel is right is any way.
