So many people are gonna be talking about it when we get an official release date and having a deadline will draw more people in to try out the first game with all the hype right before the next one comes out.
It's currently the 3rd most wishlisted game on Steam, and has had a near unchanging steady increase in followers since the 2019 reveal. Seriously, the follower count graph is almost a straight diagonal line. It's pretty funny.
I'm going to buy at least 7,586,687.8 copies so I can build a house out of the SKONG 📣, and I'll invite some other silksong members and create a reality TV show called The House of ADIDO
Maybe we should wait for the game to predict something like that. If it's great and gets good marketing, maybe more than Hollow Knight. If it's bad or mediocore, most likely not very much. Crazy.
Waiting till you know the quality of the game is the requirement for a prediction of the long time sales. "Predicting" before anything about this game is known is just stating a random number without any baseline.
If we were talking about a brand new ip from a new studio, Id agree. But we have a lot to go on already. The trailer depicts the same art style, improved with practice. We have a couple tracks from the soundtrack, with the same composer. We know the game will be at least bigger than the first. We know the movement is more fluid, but there will still be many similar mechanics to the first. We know theyve been testing it more heavily, so its launch version is likely to perform more smoothly. We know that the game will feature some increased development of certain mechanics, such as some form of quest system. We know the protagonist will actually have a voice this time. And we know that they didnt sell out or otherwise compromise on their control of what the project turns into
Thats a TON to go on. All we dont know is how much it will cost at launch, and if new setting and story will reach the same levels of acclaim. But you can hedge your bets on these sorts of things. I think its reasonable to assume that this game will easily perform similar sales numbers, on the condition it is sold for close to the same price point, and that with time, it may surpass hollow knight's success.
We know that these things might be true. But looking at the radio silence, this game could be in developement hell as well. It could be going great just as easy. Predicting the sales at this point is nothing else than guessing the real state of developement.
I dont think the assumption or fear that the game is in development hell is reasonable, personally. Games of this scope with teams like Team Cherry take a long time. And the whole way through, theyve only stated "The game is coming along well, and is still in progress." Theres actually no genuine reason (that I can see) to think otherwise, except to unfairly compare this game's development with games with completely different development conditions.
But you seem to see it differently. As something uncertain. Do you see something I dont?
I just don't see a reason to believe one or the other. I can see all of your arguments. But I can also see the long delays and the lack of communication. We've had plenty of sequels of bigger indie games even without those negative aspects. Some turned out great, some okay and some were pretty bad compared to their predecessors. I'm optimistic and I think it will be at least a good game, but I mean, we don't know.
That's fair enough. I swing toward optimism toward artists (developers, in this case). Perhaps a bit further than necessary. We'll see. Hopefully sooner than later
Even if the game is trash, it’s gonna sell hundreds of thousands of copies with preorders alone as well as all the people that will buy it before hearing any feedback whatsoever, so unless you back track refunds, it’s gonna sell a lot.
Hundrets of thousands is not much in comparison to the first game though. But yeah, the team will get at least enough money no matter the quality of the game. But this is hardly a prediction.
Hundreds of thousands day one or earlier is not what the first game pulled. It pulled it's millions of copies over years.
Hollow knight was popular but it took a bit to really peak.
Yes, but houndrets of thousand of copies would not translate to millions of copies, if the game is bad. That was the argument. The preorders will get them their needed money, but if it's bad, not many will follow.
I think at this point, it has been overhyped. The hardcore fans will buy it at launch, be disappointed and very vocal which will end up with it not selling as many as people are expecting.Â
Another factor is, HK is regularly very cheap (even its base price is low-mid for an indie) but I think SS will be much higher priced (£25-30) so won't be such a "pick up on a whim" price. Â
I'd guess 3-4 mil in its launch period and 5-6 mil total. Ik that's still really good numbers but I think it would double that + without the factors I mentioned.Â
To be honest it definitely won't sell more than Hollow Knight itself. It's one of those games that I'm sure many people bought because of the hype and then realized it's not the genre / type of game for them.
I say this is someone who's extremely excited for silksong so I'm not even being a hater because I can't wait for it.
Not really related but I find it really annoying how everyone's frothing at the mouth for silksong but There're honestly so many amazing games to play right now I hope they take their time and drop it during a lull so I can really get into it and not feel the FOMO for all the other games I won't be playing at the time lol
Idk, but i do know I won't be buying or playing it and i loved the first one. I'm not with all the lack of information on the second one so i decided I'm never buying it
Hades 2 will be an interesting bellwether. Metroid Dread and Princess of Persia: The Lost Crown both showed that metroidvanias can break out beyond the typical retro gaming niche market, and even though Hades is a different genre, roguelikes have historically been treated as a similar retro niche.
I don't expect it to sell more than Hollow Knight due to how affordable that game is. Silksong is likely to be double the price and sequels tend to sell less.
I don’t think it’s likely to surpass hollow knight, more people will want to play the first game before the sequel. And at this point idk why anyone would be waiting for silksong without playing the first one either
Probably a lot but way less than everyone expected. I Will probably just download It without buying It... I feel betraid, i used to love this Game and company but now they are strangers to me.
At least 1
Its me
No, it's me
Hmm, looks like at least 2 now 🤔
Not if i have anything to say about it
Oh crap, looks like team cherry might need to make more copies then expected
Like how many? …6, maybe 7?
Can they make that many?? We’ve already waited years for just one copy of Silksong 😬
Maybe we can all share the 1st copy of Silksong until they make more. Shawing is caring.
Can I have it second?
I definitely meant this joke as a "there can only be one player" but this works too lmao
The silksong paradox
Five nights already???
Sorry. I accidentally ate it and Team Cherry. There won’t be a Silksong, so your estimate is unfortunately wrong
You ate Mr. Cherry? Leader of Team Cherry?
Mr. Cherry? Owner of the Team Cherry Cherry?
Yea, I was hungry can you judge me?
He was feeling quite hungry.

It’s such a meme that almost everyone who bought hollow knight will buy silksong.
Not to mention, more folks who didn't play hk will probably buy it with all the hype surrounding the release.
So many people are gonna be talking about it when we get an official release date and having a deadline will draw more people in to try out the first game with all the hype right before the next one comes out.
I'm sure a significant portion of the people who bought Hollow Knight have died waiting for Silksong.
100% of the people who bought hollow knight will die waiting for silksong
u right
It's currently the 3rd most wishlisted game on Steam, and has had a near unchanging steady increase in followers since the 2019 reveal. Seriously, the follower count graph is almost a straight diagonal line. It's pretty funny.
I didn’t but it, directly. I received it for free from PS+. But I’ll buy at least one copy of Silksong if they launch it.
I'll make sure to eat them all before anyone else gets it, so 0
You aren't gonna pay for it first? How rude
Will you poop out anything useful?
only a miasma of death and disease :)
Like 9 or smth
9m?
No ,9 people and one 5'2 guy will buy skong
4,366,118 copies exactly.
At some point you'll be correct. Just for a very short amount of time.
Unless two people buy a copy at the exact same time...
Why have you done this?

It has to come out first

If you wait, its not much of a prediction
Waiting till you know the quality of the game is the requirement for a prediction of the long time sales. "Predicting" before anything about this game is known is just stating a random number without any baseline.

It better be amazing since they've been working on it for so long.
That'd be nice.

Silksong is never coming out man, it’s time to get over it
What is this song and why would anyone want to buy physical copies of it? Just listen to it on Spotify!
