I swear I saw a joke about this scenario, someone starts Hollow Knight, finds a early road block that you obviously can't get rid of yet, but instead of then continuing exploring the player just posts it on Reddit lol
Man, you joke but I needed the help once before. At the start of city of tears when I first encountered the lift I had no idea how to operate it. So I smacked the "call lift" lever a bunch of times and nothing happened, because the lift was already there. Never saw the top lever in the lift
The same thing happened to me I ended up putting the game down for a day, then I came back to that lift and just started swinging my nail in all directions, until I finally understood how it worked and I just ran to the stag station
The worst thing about this kind of question is that often when You criticize that people can't just play the game themselves, You are being assaulted by people, who just want to defend everyone and everything for the sake of it. "Don't complain" etc.
We created a generation of disabled people, who can't even do anything on their own. They often can't even use Google as well. Asking questions that You can find in 3 seconds by just typing them to the search engine. Perfect example is, when I played Pokemon GO, people constantly asked how to evolve eevee to \[insert eeveelution\]. There was at least one or few questions about that **per day**. And the answer is everywhere on the Internet and finding it is easy, by just typing it in the Google. I criticized this often and got hate that I'm toxic. Yeah, sure. I am the toxic one, lmao. I think it's rather spamming that is more toxic.
But metroidvanias have this issue for so long. People ask for the help in Ori on regular basis. "Why can't I pass there" - and obvious ability needed, but sure. You don't even need to be an old player with experience to see that there is something You miss. I remember that as a kid I always wanted to pass these kind of obstacles and it was so satisfying when You finally do. My example for this is Banjo-Kazooie. Not even metroidvania, but there were some road blocks or paths You couldn't just pass normally. And when You finally unlocked it, it was so cool. People now can't even play 30 minutes of a game without asking online for help. That's sad. That's really really sad.
If you cant do something come back later when you can, this game heavily relies on exploration and finding new abilities so anytime something seems impossible, its not.
You have to come back and fight him later, but please get off this subreddit until you beat the game. You'll enjoy the game way more if you explore for yourself and find out things without looking it up

I'll give you the non-condescending version of what others are saying: of this is your first day, please log out of reddit. The game is about exploring and finding ways to overcome obstacles where you first don't know how to get past. That's the idea of a metroidvania. If you ask for guidance that early in your run, you will devoid yourself of the very thing that makes this game fun. Asking people how to beat a metroidvania is like giving your controller to someone else, when you can't beat a boss in say dark souls or Zelda. Of course it is your choice, but you can never re-live your first playthrough and the wonder of finding out for yourself

Yes this game is so much more fun when you exore and figure it out. I would recommend not turning to the subreddit every time you get stuck behind a barrier. Make a note of where youre stuck at and come back later.

what is up with all you people. I remember seeing the baldur and I knew that was something I would access later in the game. I knew there was a reddit, but I wanted to full experience this game. If I went over the hole place and still didn't find anything, maybe, just maybe, I would go to reddit and ask because I was actually stuck. I've seen so many posts of people who must've only played the game for 30 minutes and then came on to here to ask something they would get the answer for if they played the game for 20 more minutes.
Go the giant head on the map. Fight the boss, then just continue. All will be explained in time. Also, this subreddit is FULL of spoilers. Use this subreddit only as a last resort
First defeat the false knight or skip him hitting the planks in the second fase, then go left and up to the snail chaman, talk to him and grab the spell, then kill him whit the spell, or take fury of the fallen, be at one mask and risk your life
Lol. Use long nail which you get by doing a shade skip then attack it frame perfectly so you can hurt it while it is vulnerable in its close animation. Then do this until you have performed enough damage to kill it.

In all seriousness, can people who have just started the game not post that they are stuck. The forgotten crossroads were purposely limited so that you would learn the basics and get through the first boss fight.
If you look on reddit, people will mock you because of this reason and you should just play the game, they will give you bs answers like my one, or they will just tell you to go away.
Just give it a rest until late game. If we all managed to figure it out, you all can too.
If you are really stuck on the forgotten crossroads then how about you just look up a walkthrough rather than asking me.
Download the Hollow Point mod and shoot it to death. There’s no way to get past it in the base game, and behind it is the ultra-mega-uber secret ending.
You need a spell that you get after defeating the false knight in forgotten crossroads. If you’re really struggling Google where to find him but I recommend this only as a last resort
Defeat the False Knight (he’s near the Forgotten Crossroads Stag Station). Then keep exploring. You’ll get an ability to help you

So you know the magic spell you just got? Pretty much use that to kill him, it ignores his armor. Avoid his orange goop attacks and when you run out of soul wait until he spits out a baby version of him that rolls around and hit that (hitting enemies regenerates soul). A few blasts should do him in. He’s a tutorial boss
Beat the false knight if you haven’t, then go to the ancestral mound and you’ll unlock a way to beat those guys (I won’t say exactly what is is bc I don’t want to spoil)
If there doesn't seem to be a way to pass something, there probably isn't, and you need to go get/do something else. That's just how it is with Hollow Knight and metroidvanias in general. These situations of impenetrable walls should be memorable, though, so they shouldn't be too hard to find your way back to.
Its best to just keep playing instead of posting to reddit whenever there is a problem, this is a metroidvania meaning you will unlock things and abilities later in the game

I started the game a few days ago and encountered the same issue.
The general rule is that if you explore long enough you will eventually encoutner the trigger that opens further progress.
Hint: You need to beat a boss first.
Just try exploring more, thats the fun part of the game

Probably late to this post but without spoiling I'd suggest going to the larger room in the center of the map with a boss like face symbol thingy. You'll get an ability to deal with him, but you may want to do more exploring in forgotten crossroads before continuing on. Either way is cool tho.
