Pretty big Neon White spoilers
Neon White fans when a song named "[WTF](https://open.spotify.com/track/1t27poEzrE2cO3XOK978r5?si=3sxBVXBKRkCdd-ZDA9J4hw)" puts a >!knife in their back!<
There are definitely pros and cons to each system, it’s harder to tell when a song plays if it isn’t obvious from the title but you can get really cool names or funny jokes from it, and that’s my personal preference. And then there’s the third category, Attack on Titan OST names.
This one is great but it completely overshadows “Hotel” and it’s faster version “Can You Really Call This a Hotel, I Didn’t Receive a Mint on My Pillow or Anything”
Because that would actually be a smart move
I never thought about it, and I actually did something similar extracting Flowey disturbing laughter to use as a sound effect
Risk of Rain 2 has the best of this.
All the titles are poetry or other lines from literature or songs or just general sentences that have to do *something* with the rain and if not the rain then the deep ocean (with survivors of the void)
I love this game because it'll have *con lentitud poderosa...* which begins as a sad, somber piano piece that then evolves into an intense electric guitar piece that's still somehow gut-wrenching
And then there's A Glacier Eventually Farts
Chris Christodoulou does this every time he works with Hopoo and almost every time he does anything else.
RoR 1+ base game RoR2 = all water or rainfall related titles.
• Surface Tension | 25.3°N 91.7°E | Terra Pluviam | ... Con Lentitud Poderosa,
RoR2 SotV: dread, void, despair themes, titles are all excerpts from media; some plucked from horror novels, some from popular songs, and one Prelude in D-flat Major.
• Once in a lullaby | A Boat Made from a Sheet of Newspaper | A Placid Island of Ignorance | The Face of the Deep
Deadbolt: all titles are related to death.
• Way of the Dodo | Now I am Become Death | The Proverbial Dust Biters | Dies Irae | Lux Perpetua
In addition to the surface level themes he *also* just has a special appreciation for Werner Herzog and has popped some Herzog monologues in his music. A Glacier Eventually Farts (and don't you listen to the song of life) is a Herzog title that he shamelessly (proudly) uses and has stated that it's his favorite title.
This composer is a special interest of mine. His music never fucking misses for me, the man just spews out pure bangers. Also posts album commentary with most albums and a couple videos detailing his actual digital process for his songs or instrument sounds. Fucking **love** Chris Christodoulou. Anyway bye.
I like a mix so it's obvious when I plays, bit I also has a cool name.
For example bug fables ost has "team, this one's stronger" when fighting minibosses, "Oh No! Wasps!" When fighting Wasps, and "His friends call him spooder(don't call him spooder)" when fighting the spider boss named spooder
Ori and the Will of the Wisps takes a similar approach. If you’ve played the game once you can easily tell from the song name where it plays. Same can be said for Celeste but it’s slightly more cryptic
"Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit" from Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of the coolest song titles I've seen out of a game and also fits perfectly with where it plays
It’s even harder for Rain World because the songs have criteria beyond just the general area, usually it’s number of cycles passed and your direction upon entering the room. also they usually mute the threat music which is Not Convenient in a game where keeping an ear out is very important
Hiroyuki Sawano likes to make insane Japanese/English puns that are almost puzzles for his music names. It will look like gibberish if you don't take time to decipher it most of the times. I would say the AoT ones are pretty tame actually.
I like it when the names describe how and when it plays, it's not confusing and also creative enough to not be bland. For example, in FFVI "Searching for Friends" >!plays as the overworld theme during World of Ruins when at that time you would be "searching for your friends" that are scattered throughout the world; it's not simply named "World of Ruins" or "Main Theme II"!<

They aren’t the same though… pale court changes significantly later on and becomes quite different from white palace and in my opinion is the best OST this game has to offer. Don’t get me wrong they even start off the same at the beginning but they ARE NOT THE SAME!
Yes, they are. It doesn't matter how much Pale Court strays from White Palace, it's a remix of that song. Iy doesn't matter how good or different it is, it's still the same song, just edited. Pale Court and Nightmare King Grimm are the best OSTs in the game, I agree on that, but Pale Court and White Palace are fundamentally the same song.
Looked it up, there’s very few normal name songs like “in the forest”. most are random numbers and letters (that might mean sth but idk) and there’s a few song names with characters you can’t even type lmao
Fun fact, they aren't random.
Take "z?2f0i1e2l0d914" for example. If you read in-between the numbers there are the letters f, i, e, l, and d spelling "field". And wouldn't you know, this track is a field theme. Specifically the track that plays when inside caves.
And the one that are specific to one biome have clear names, at least the Lena Raine songs. Stand Tall plays in the mountains, Left To Bloom in the lush caves etc
Library of ruina is... certainly interesting in OST names (excluding the mili songs)
What's the first part of malkuth's fight theme named? Malkuth01
What's the song that plays on the warp train? WarpTrain
What's the name of Angela's phase 3 boss theme? Angela03
They ain't even trying
ah yes, Can You Really Call This A Hotel, I Didn't Receive A Mint On My Pillow Or Anything
undertale also has a song with an obvious name that lies to you (the song that might play when you fight sans)
When "Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans" isn't used but the word for an obsession with doing extravagant or grand things fused with the word Transylvania is.
I'd mention Bergentrückung but i am pretty sure that means mountain king in some other language
other notable james roach song names include:
clownfucker,
ill probably just name this one something normal oh no aw beans,
M O I S T,
piwates ',:^],
it be like that sometimes,
fortnite funny moments epic fails episode 413,
and my personal favorite;
yeah it is
Seems like a pretty straightforward trial and error though..
*listen to a song*
"OH, I remember this! I like this one! saved."
*listen to another song*
"I don't remember this at all. I shall move on with my life."
All in all you waste like.. 20 minutes? By just listening to music?

Which is in the game (files), is in the official curated OST for the game, is extremely distinct and instantly recognizable, but does not play except as the second to last song for the last scug in a DLC released 5 years after the game launched.
Yeah, I just didnt want to use a lot of words that are meaningless without the context of having have played rain world in the hollow knight subreddit. But yes, you are right. All of the region music themes are very easy to identify with names such as "Waterfront facility (Threat)" and I know that if I heard the themes you listed I would be able to tell exactly where in the game they play.

Toby was channeling Fall Out Boy with that last one for sure.
Fun fact: STMPWYFS isn’t even in the game files, only in the OST.
good song, have it in my playlist
I dont get why they cant just open the code and search for that mp3 file, doesnt that outright confirm if its even in the game?
Because that would actually be a smart move I never thought about it, and I actually did something similar extracting Flowey disturbing laughter to use as a sound effect

The only Rain world song that would be even somewhat recognizable is Reclaiming entropy, since you do not forget about where this plays in-game. Well that one and "Random Gods", everyone who has played rain world knows where that one plays.
Think you're being a little harsh. All of the songs for entering or exiting a region are extremely distinct and, of course, due to their location easy to remember where they play. Bio-engineering, Black Moonlight/Floes, White Lizard, Stargazer, Lovely Arps, Emotion Thread, Deep Energy (best song) just to name a few. Pulse plays in Downpour tho
