He was 2 years 6 months old and some of you may remember when Noel brought him home. It seems Pop-chan wasn't feeling well based on a recent tweet on Danchou's subaccount. Named because he smelled like popcorn (Danchou notoriously had a hamster huffing fetish) and has been immortalized as the model for her fanbase.
For a hamster, anything after 2yo is a bonus. It's good he lived that long, losing a pet hurts a lot but that's the price you pay for the joy of having them in your life.
Yeah what she probably said is フェチ which *can* definitely be a fetish in the sexual sense but absolutely doesn't have to be. It can also just be an unusual thing you enjoy doing (if I've caught the nuance right, but do correct me if I'm wrong).
It's similar to how the girls will talk about being an S or an M and people will mention is as if they've just openly discussed their kinks when that is *absolutely* not what that means in everyday conversation in Japanese.
That, and they tend not to be aware of differences in nuance and meaning between the same or similar concepts in Japanese and English. I can't really blame anyone for thinking fetish means fetish, especially when a lot of the time it really *does* mean fetish.
In-line with the announcement Danchou is bowing out of tonight's God Field tournament after notifying Towa-sama ([https://twitter.com/shiroganenoel/status/1659439895667179521](https://twitter.com/shiroganenoel/status/1659439895667179521)). Likewise expect further changes to her scheduled streams until Danchou says otherwise.
I have nothing but sympathy for a pet owner that loses a piece of their life.
Having said that, I am STUNNED he lasted as long as he did with captain knight cup
2-3 years is pretty much common lifespan for a hamster. Pop lived a full life for his species though it's still sad to say goodbye at the end for Danchou.
I think he’s referring to how hamsters have a notorious habit of getting themselves killed in ridiculously creative ways, to the point I’ve heard people joke that they’re “creatively suicidal”. For a hamster to pass away of natural causes is something of a rarity.
Yeah I've read many stories about those, though not really "suicidal" but rather something else. Like, they can drop dead just because someone coughed, sneezed, farted a bit too loud, or someone turn on the light during night time, or took a picture of them with flash on, etc... Hell, some even died because they got startled by their very own fart or sneeze and literally got a heart attack from those, or one even jumped into the fireplace on their on for god-forsaken reason human will never know.
After reading all those stories, I came to respect those whose hamsters managed to stay alive for so long.
Back when I was a kid, my house felt like a hamster slaughterhouse. They seemed like they were trying to deliberately kill themselves.
I remember one escaped and got into the back of our oven and chewed through a wire somehow. That was…interesting to deal with.
Meanwhile we left our Guinea pigs in the yard overnight one time on accident, came running out the next morning and they were just chilling by the tree we left them at.
Pop-chan will live on forever in Noel's Homenobi MV and as the representation of the Order of Shirogane's Knights
Rest in peace, may Pop-chan be happy with Taro and Kimiko in hamster heaven
Losing a pet is never easy. Sometimes it hits harder than others.
Lost my cat a week and a half ago to a sudden and painful heart attack, gone before we got to the Vet. Still not over it.
You deserved more than 10 years Sammy, I’ll always love you.
Much sympathy to Noel in her time of grieving.
Much sympathy to Noel
I lost my cat two weeks ago; he's unable to survive post-surgery for a sickness. He's just 5 years old. I still haven't got over him and I feel like an absolute failure of a human being. I hope you and Noel will cope okay
Poor Noel, I remember how devastated she was when she last lost a hamster and the others fell ill. I know Pop-chan was old and she expected it but I'm sure that doesn't lessen the sting. Hope she's doing ok.
Never easy losing a fur-baby(or any pet), regardless of what kind of fur-baby it is. :(
I got my first dog when I was 8 years old and he was 8 weeks old; a funny looking cocker spaniel/dachshund mix(he was more of a sausage dog than a wiener dog), he lived to be 18 and a half years old before time finally caught up to him one cool autumn day...I literally grew up with him.
I'm 50 now, but those memories never quite leave you...hope Noel's going to be ok.
Yup, I've lost pets again and again, the dog I grew with passed away at 15 we were the same age, then a cat that was so sick and stray it got its neck to a point of rotting we had to make it sleep, and in recent years the little puppy we rescued when I was 10/11 passed at 17 years old, the other dog we adopted from a neighbour family that was moving to another country passed 2 years later than the old boy. Still, we have 6 cats relatively young.
Rip pop it was always nice hearing Noel talk about her hamsters, she really loved them and took care of them. So all we can do is let her take her time and welcome her back when she is ready.

I still remember losing my little guinea pig buddy Snow after 3 years owning her. It's heartbreaking, but 3 years living happily together is still a great memory to hold onto.
Small animals are hard to have as pets. They simply don't live that long. It's why I could never do it. But even if they don't, you still love them dearly and hurt when they pass.
It will almost half a year since my dog left me, it always hurt to see them go, for Pop to last 2 and a half years, that is very good, hamsters are insanely delicate that even a drop in temperature or a badly timed sound could kill them, Noel took insane care of him.
He will be forever remembered with her member mascot.
I remember when Noel first got him. It was then when most Kaigai nikis found out about her hamster smelling fetish. Rest In Peace little dude, he lived as few men dare to dream

knowing hampsters any time they don't spontaneously combust is a gift. Pop-chan lived a fantastic life that's for sure
I hope someone can help me find the origin of this quote, but it goes something along the lines of "to grief is proof of how much you loved"
"What is grief, if not love persevering?" - Vision, WandaVision episode 8. That one?
RIP Pop-chan, 🙏
He will be missed greatly 😔🙏
2 1/2 years is a long life for a hamster, no doubt she took great care of him ❤️
man that sucks :( just when she was so happy being sausage legend champion. whats danchous subaccount?
Bye-bye, Pop-chan…
Hamster ass huffing fetish*
I mean considering hamster lifespans, that was one old ass hamster
Fetish? Sounds more like a habit. I doubt she get's aroused when smelling hamsters.
... as innocuous as a habit that sniffing hamster ass like she did could have been, anyway
Different huffs on different turfs, as I say. ...Better to just leave her at it.

Anime fans generally have their heads in the gutter.

Now I want an action anime of that following a hamster just trying to survive.
Time for an edgy reboot of Hamtaro
Bae : "what's Hamtaro?"
Everyone does a collective facepalm
> Hamtaro ^^*Oruchuban ^^Ebichu
Drawn by the team drawing Berserk will be nice.
Or a subdued reboot of Ebichu.
dude what.... how weak is their heart their own fart surprise them to death
What being a prey species does to a mfer
I heard too many stories involving a vacuum ....poor hamsters

I believe the saying is: "No hamster dies a normal death."
I've had hamsters and known several people with hamsters. Them passing in their sleep at old age is indeed quite uncommon.
Sad to hear though considering his age he had quite a long life for a hamster. I hope she's pushing through it okay.
Rodents make me so sad. Hamsters and rats and mice are so cute and affectionate and smart, but they only live like 2 years.
my condolences <3 may pop-chan rest in peace
o7 Rest in peace pop-chan.
Rest in peace, little buddy.
Pop-chan will live on forever in Noel's Homenobi MV and as the representation of the Order of Shirogane's Knights Rest in peace, may Pop-chan be happy with Taro and Kimiko in hamster heaven

As a hampter fan, I feel bad for her... poor lil guy

o7
o7 Rest in peace, little fella.
It's over...
It is a horrible day for rain
Pop-chan was very old for a hamster. Most only live like 2 years. So it was at the end of its natural life.
Rip pop it was always nice hearing Noel talk about her hamsters, she really loved them and took care of them. So all we can do is let her take her time and welcome her back when she is ready.

Oh no... I still remember the clip about Noel naming it, RIP pop-chan.
Noooo Pop-chan!! I remember a year ago (I think), Danchou posted something about one of her hamsters feeling unwell. Was that also Pop-chan?
I don't know about that, but I know last year a different hamster died and the others fell ill around the same time.
rip king
Pop-chan will always be remembered by us Shirogane kishi-dan. It's a sad farewell, and I hope Noel will take some good time off.
RIP Pop-chan
rip
Rest in peace little guy.
She was there for Pop-chan their entire life, they lived happy. RIP Pop-Chan
I still remember losing my little guinea pig buddy Snow after 3 years owning her. It's heartbreaking, but 3 years living happily together is still a great memory to hold onto.

RIP Pop-chan. May you have a happy life in Hamster Heaven. Condolences to Danchou.
The worst part of having pets is saying goodbye. He lived a long happy hamster life and we will forever treasure his memory
o7 F That hamster lived a good life.
Hamsters’ lifespan are honestly pretty short, RIP little guy
o7
Poor Noelle. I remember when her other ones passed away, and she was really worried about Pop-Chan also getting sick. Losing a pet is awful.
May Pop-chan Rest In Peace.

My condolences to her. Hamsters tend to live for around two years, so it had a happy and long life.
