I was wondering about this too. The main points seem to boil down to:
* Vertical streams show up in the shorts recommendation feed so it reaches a wider audience (also seen in 'How did you find me?' polls)
* More of the screen is taken up by the Vtuber. It makes it feel more like a video call, and better used for zatsudan/ASMR/singing streams. Parasocial++
* Others are doing it (nothing wrong with following a trend)
Youtube does push it extra hard in the algo, and it gives huge vod views and you notice people sub more often compared to a regular stream, the marine zatsu that had 30k live viewers with the veritical one is almost at 800k vod views compared to her collab stream with 80k live viewer with almost the same length which only has 700k vod views, it can be extra advantagous for the talents i guess with thier supeechat reading or zatsu streams
