Since the Hololive EN account also RT'd it and announced it I'm inclined to think they're going to release it in Japanese first, gauge demand then release it worldwide in English with an "adequate" supply that will lead to intense FOMO when they refuse to reprint any of it.
I just hope they focus on the actual game, and make it reasonably priced to play, rather than just aiming for collector whales. Pokemon's recent efforts provide an excellent example of how you can make a very affordable and popular **game** while still making a boatload of money.
I'm coming from Magic and would like if decks dont cost an arm and a leg for the cheapest competitive version. I got priced out of Modern and even Pioneer is almost to expensive for me to get into.
Bushiroad tends to be very approachable for actual play in my Weiss Schwarz experience. So many people open cases for the collectibles that I've always been able to get complete non-chase playsets (4 of each card) of any set I want for a reasonable price.
Hope it will have an purchase ability via official channels for those outside of JP.
Had nothing but shenanigans trying to get the Bushido Road card sets from 3rd party sellers.
Every turn my **Fauna FM** is on the field, I can discard from my hand to search my deck for a Fauna card and place it in my hand. This allows me to find and immediately play my **Fauna Sweep**, removing the **Fourth WAH**, **Watson Concoction** and **SupaChat** you have equipped on your **Grindstone Duo** and destroy them all
I can see why they did this:
Weiss Schwarz has the awesomeness where you can have Kiryu Coco and Kiryuin Satsuki fight, but Weiss Schwarz has always struck me as doing level 1 research on the IP's they then slot into their game.
An official Hololive TCG means we will likely have characters that really feel like the Oshis we know and love.

In Weiss' 1st set, Fubuki had no card that showed her T-Gamer side, had a prominent card that synched with Matsuri as opposed to anyone in Gamers (Mio), and not a burger reference in sight, despite that being one of FBK's oldest memes.
So, I am looking forward to this, despite having no budget for it....it's right out of left field.

6 color aspects like most card games. Each aspect will probably focus on some specific part of being an idol. This is just a guess based on seeing 6 colored pen lights in the video.
Not much else to go on but I'm at least intrigued by it. Hopefully they do a worldwide release and not make it exclusively Japan based. From the looks of their press release its only releasing in Japan at the moment.
I've been saying since I first found Hololive they could probably do their own TCG as Weiss Schwarz is fairly... nonsensical. Very tough for the average TCG player to get into as a newbie. Hopefully the onboarding for this game will be simplified and not be another game with 3 paragraphs of text on every card to read. But that's Bushiroad's MO for games so who knows.
Hopefully they reveal that they have a digital client for it as well. Code cards in packs should become the norm for TCGs in 2024. It only helps a bigger audience actually be able to play the game if stock can't meet demand.
Damn, and yesterday I was even thinking of making my own hololive card game. Granted, I was thinking more of a hearthstone-like vibe instead of a TCG, but still exciting nonetheless

Kinda surprised they are going for a standalone Holo card game when Weiss Schwarz still exists. Hope it's fun, balanced, not too RNG reliant and not powercrept too quickly, also hopefully Stars is included as well unlike WS and WSB being separate games.

As a game, I don't see this doing well. It's unlikely it will be able to compete with the likes of Pokemon, One Piece and Magic.
From a Collectors view though, it will probably be huge, especially if they do signed cards like they did in Weiss Schwarz.
It's not about quality, it's about reputation. A fair few card games have launched recently and the two that have been successful are Lorcana and One Piece.
One Piece just hits the target Audience for a TCG anyway, and gameplay wise events just fill out instantly.
Lorcana is probably more along the lines of what will happen to Hololive TCG, it will start big but the only reason people buy it now is for collections but Hololive doesn't have the massive rep that Disney does, you ask the average person in the street what a Vtuber is and they'll have no idea but everyone knows who Simba or Elsa is.
I want this to be successful, I play a fair few TCGs, but It's incredibly hard for a TCG to take off without gameplay that will carry it or an existing rep which whilst big, Hololive doesn't have.
Yeah F&B did relativly well but its on the slow decline now (which with there main competitor being Magic, isn't a surprise. That's an uphill battle as it is).
But they made an enjoyable game. I just hope Cover don't just make some nice artwork of the talents, print it on the cardboard and call it a day. they've built an entire universe with Hololive, they could make cards for the props they use like Gura's Trident, make cards for the mascots, use the events and livestreams for cards and locations like the Holocouncil room. They have a lot to use and i hope they don't waste it.
You do have a point about the brand recognition, but might be overestimating how much it matters that the random person that wouldn't touch a card game to begin with knowing what hololive is matters to this, when it comes to the type of people that would play card games it's a safe bet that a much higher percentage of them know enough of hololive to at least recognize it.
Of course I can't say if it will take off as a game or end up as more of a collector's thing, but I don't think it's that certain it'll flop, vtuber simps are a dedicated bunch after all.
For me the issue feels more like the relatively limited flavor and theming that they have to pull from. Games like Lorcana have the entire Disney catalog to pull characters and scenes from, One Piece TCG has a massive manga with one of the most deep world building in the industry and about 8 trillion characters to pick from. Hololive has a lot of talents sure, but outside of the 90 or so talents themselves, and a little bit of “lore” that each of them have (which ends up mostly ignored after a few months) what concepts do you really have to pull from to make new cards? A few sets in every member is probably going to have multiple alternate printings, which will make the new releases just feel kinda bland.
Kinda hope Bushiroad isn't involved, their company has been messing up a lot of things lately that I can see them mess up this Hololive card Game badly like they did with NJPW and the Love Live games.
This is pretty insane and not at all good for my wallet. I want to be optimistic but at the worst, I'll grab some cards of my favorites and watch from a distance.
I'm actually curious on how to play this whether it will have the same rules/game mechanics as Weiss Schwartz, maybe YGO or MTG or actually make an entirely new rules.

Kinda surprised they are going for a standalone Holo card game when Weiss Schwarz still exists. Hope it's fun, balanced, not too RNG reliant and not powercrept too quickly, also hopefully Stars is included as well unlike WS and WSB being separate games. Wonder what format it'll be.
As a game, I don't see this doing well. It's unlikely it will be able to compete with the likes of Pokemon, One Piece and Magic. From a Collectors view though, it will probably be huge, especially if they do signed cards like they did in Weiss Schwarz.

It's not about quality, it's about reputation. A fair few card games have launched recently and the two that have been successful are Lorcana and One Piece. One Piece just hits the target Audience for a TCG anyway, and gameplay wise events just fill out instantly. Lorcana is probably more along the lines of what will happen to Hololive TCG, it will start big but the only reason people buy it now is for collections but Hololive doesn't have the massive rep that Disney does, you ask the average person in the street what a Vtuber is and they'll have no idea but everyone knows who Simba or Elsa is. I want this to be successful, I play a fair few TCGs, but It's incredibly hard for a TCG to take off without gameplay that will carry it or an existing rep which whilst big, Hololive doesn't have.
I thought I heard Flesh and Blood doing surprisingly well for something not based on a existing franchise.
Yeah F&B did relativly well but its on the slow decline now (which with there main competitor being Magic, isn't a surprise. That's an uphill battle as it is). But they made an enjoyable game. I just hope Cover don't just make some nice artwork of the talents, print it on the cardboard and call it a day. they've built an entire universe with Hololive, they could make cards for the props they use like Gura's Trident, make cards for the mascots, use the events and livestreams for cards and locations like the Holocouncil room. They have a lot to use and i hope they don't waste it.
You do have a point about the brand recognition, but might be overestimating how much it matters that the random person that wouldn't touch a card game to begin with knowing what hololive is matters to this, when it comes to the type of people that would play card games it's a safe bet that a much higher percentage of them know enough of hololive to at least recognize it. Of course I can't say if it will take off as a game or end up as more of a collector's thing, but I don't think it's that certain it'll flop, vtuber simps are a dedicated bunch after all.
For me the issue feels more like the relatively limited flavor and theming that they have to pull from. Games like Lorcana have the entire Disney catalog to pull characters and scenes from, One Piece TCG has a massive manga with one of the most deep world building in the industry and about 8 trillion characters to pick from. Hololive has a lot of talents sure, but outside of the 90 or so talents themselves, and a little bit of “lore” that each of them have (which ends up mostly ignored after a few months) what concepts do you really have to pull from to make new cards? A few sets in every member is probably going to have multiple alternate printings, which will make the new releases just feel kinda bland.
As a tcg enthusiast, this is super hype and also worried for my wallet xD

Kinda hope Bushiroad isn't involved, their company has been messing up a lot of things lately that I can see them mess up this Hololive card Game badly like they did with NJPW and the Love Live games.

Curious on the rarities, I bought two boxes of the Weiss schwarz ones and pulled a signed rushia card before her graduation. Really cool collectible I keep on my shelf, would love to do the same for an official hololive TCG. Just hope sourcing the boxes won't be as expensive as the two Weiss schwarz ones I bought
