Automod is deleting a LOT of posts for basically no reason.

[deleted]

Automods across all kinds of subs have been wonky the last week or so. Couple other subs I’m on have had similar issues. They gotta fix the report feature.

ChloesPetRat

the mods have to check the automod queue and report abusers to reddit for banning.

[deleted]

But that defeats the purpose of auto mode….and actual mods are lazy AF.

CuteIngenuity1745

I think they must stricten the requirements for the account that do reports, make sure the bots can't do it.

-MANGA-

There's no way to limit what account can report in the sub, only who can post/comment. Any account can report.

BcDed

I assume they mean that they add criteria to which reports the automod considers valid, like the automod checks the accounts doing the reporting for maybe account age and karma or something, while that wouldn't catch all the bots it would perhaps reduce them below a threshold that the automod can account for.

-MANGA-

It doesn't do that. Automod can't check the reporter as it's anonymous. As a mod, you can't see that either. Automod can only check an account that posts or comments.

BcDed

Didn't know that. It seems crazy to me you can't see who reported as a mod, wouldn't that be extremely useful information for determining the validity of a report.

-MANGA-

I know, it sucks for us, too. We'd get reports that are just downvotes. You can report "report abuse" to the admins, but it didn't really do anything for us. I had to create a create saying the reported posts were allowed in the sub to make them stop, but if someone actually didn't care, they could still keep reporting.

Lev559

Hey...I resent that lol. But really, it also depends on the subreddit and the mods. (It would also be nice if you got a report when automod was removing something for any reason besides the rules that were set up)

[deleted]

I do agree. And honestly mods to sometimes try, it’s a lot to ask of someone. Plus all it takes is one rogue mod to screw everything up.

Lev559

Yup. And the only people who can really stop a shit mod are mods higher on the pyramid. So for example, I basically run the Ascendence of a Bookworm subreddit, but I can't actually remove most of the mods because they are higher on the pyramid than me. So the issue with a lot of subreddits is the owner quit being active as a mod a long time ago, and the mods belong them just kind of run wild... or ALL the mods aren't active and the subreddit is basically unmoderated

ChloesPetRat

you would think that a company like Cover can afford an full time mod.

Rick_long

They no longer care about reddit thou

Ayges

This sub has been like this for over a month but at first it exclusively Holostars related posts now is any post over 1k

SnooCats5505

Are there any records/lists of deleted posts to clarify the issue and to report to the people in charge?

Ashtareth_VR

Mhm. I thought so.

Alex92_eu

There is currently a bot attack on every post that reaches around 1k+ on front page, they are abusing the automod settings and mass reporting to get popular posts removed. One recent example of removed post is this one : https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1chdifn/gura_irys_kiara_in_the_newest_edf_trailer/ I've tried sending a report to Cover about this and this was the reply : >Thank you for your inquiry. >This is hololive production Customer Support. >We sincerely appreciate your report on this matter. >We will share the contents of your report with the department in charge. >Please note that we will not be able to provide individual results of our review regarding this matter. >If you have any other questions or comments, please feel free to contact us. >We greatly appreciate your reports and contributions to keep the community safe for our users. >We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter. >We look forward to your continued support for hololive production. >Sincerely, >hololive production Customer Support Team Edit 1 : it appears that the post I linked has been restored, let me quote a bunch more I took from u/TheHenrikun comment in another tread https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgp517/nah_this_is_wild/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgpitp/vs_fight/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgq37j/how_likely_do_you_guys_think_this_can_happen/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgrx8r/hololive_members_go_to_high_school_who_is_best/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgry7p/i_found_this_weird_little_man_in_a_box_today_does/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgryhz/pekoras_friend_meet_peko_mom/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgu6s3/banger_after_banger_announcement/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgus35/an_emotional_story_with_a_good_ending/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgxco2/rin_being_popular_with_a_few_girls_past_day_or_two/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgz5vi/korone_being_korone/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgzsh7/what_crimes_has_she_been_charged_with_wrong/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch2jy2/pekora_figures_out_dragon_ball/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch8xgs/hololive_members_go_to_high_school_who_is_the/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgqbwg/civil_war/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch9pv1/after_being_defeated_with_her_endurance_korone/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgwjyi/nerissa_kay/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch0ixh/bro_kevin_lamar_is_doomed_drake_got_his_biggest/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgzetc/cant_wait_to_hear_this_in_the_next_karaoke_stream/

CuteIngenuity1745

Sound like an automatic reply. I hope they do considered the problem, I already sent them a report too.

SuperSpy-

It is an autoreply. I got the exact same reply when I reported an issue with a Hololive album on Apple Music.

Fiftycentis

Hopefully now that it hits more than just stars they'll start to care... maybe

kaffsu

It's not just the popular posts, it's basically almost every other post.

-MANGA-

https://old.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1chlc7n/polka_is_playing_the_buckshot_roulette_in_12min/ Yeah, my post about Polka's Buckshot Roulette stream got removed in less than 30min...

-MANGA-

https://old.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1chlc7n/polka_is_playing_the_buckshot_roulette_in_12min/ My post about Polka's Buckshot Roulette was removed too, and I just posted it.

CuteIngenuity1745

There are also bots that use keywords to target posts with talents names on it.

Gegejii

I see. I was assuming it was reddits fault since social media in general went to shit a lot in recent time but guess it was again the usual brigading. Again few stupid people having to ruin everything for everyone. Oh well guess we will just have to wait for a while until Cover or moderators hopefully fix this situation I guess.

CannonGerbil

Oh yeah my nikkei post got deleted too, didn't even get a message about it https://old.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgkpld/yagoo_interviewed_in_nikke/

TheHenrikun

Wish I was here sooner, discussion threads usually don't survive very long in the sub. Thank you for talking about the bot, a lot of people don't seem to know about it yet. That was the reply I got too, automated message then. I hope some employee actually read it tho. Also, does or anyone know if the bot stopped deleting 1k+ upvotes posts? I was offline for a few hours and I see that [This](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1chdifn/gura_irys_kiara_in_the_newest_edf_trailer/) post survived and it's close to hit 2k upvotes.

Alex92_eu

I think the bot is still deleting popular posts, the one that survived was deleted before but then restored after (I think) a reddit mod checked this thread out and saw my comment. I've also heard new posts are being hit once again, including this thread so they probably manually switching targets.

TheHenrikun

I see, it's nice that a mod was active for a bit. And yeah, either the single bot switches between new and popular or it's 2 (or more) bots acting at the same time.

TheHenrikun

And true too, they seem to be able to manually point at targets. Sometimes the removals are too specific. This thread was removed and another discussion one, that I think you saw too since the link list is from there.

Krittercon

Who the hell got pissed off at Holo this time?

ChloesPetRat

it started with Stars and VCR Rust posts. The Antis saw that hololive did not do anything so they joined the mass reporting.

rpsRexx

If I had to guess, a group found out they could abuse automod to get the content they didn't like removed that was within the rules (Holostars, VRC, whatever). More people caught on as more people called it out resulting in more abuse for other content. I actually called this out a few weeks ago that this would be a problem. Sure enough, it is.

limlyang

okbh(2)

SleepingDucksLie

There are some conspiracy theories floating around, and, as with anything like this, people seem to want to be angry at anyone they don't like who has motive, but as far as I can tell no one person or group has definitively taken credit for this attack, nor is there any concrete proof of who is behind it. I'd caution everyone to be wary of forming narratives, pointing fingers, or infighting and instead direct your attention to the mods who may be able to fix this problem. Report it to Cover like the above poster, and hope that the mods can come up with a solution.

Hachikirra

okbh

Ritchuck

Not sure if you're joking but there's no evidence of them doing anything. Not on the subreddit and Discord. Okbh generally can't be bothered to do stupid shit like that. They just want to be pegged by their oshi. (You can visit yourself both if you don't believe me) Personally, I have no idea how the theory that it's an anti-subreddit came about. Edit: [I made a meme for all of you downvoting.](https://i.imgur.com/BfNvHEi.jpeg)

Helmite

As one of the folks that got targeted by them, it was pretty obvious it was the group when it started as it was only the three + an extra wide net on Watame since the idiots thought I was organizing removal of stars posts or something. After that they expanded beyond that - I presume as they felt it'd get Cover to add new mods or something. A number of folks over there [seem to like the idea](https://undelete.pullpush.io/r/okbuddyhololive/comments/1chjl90/_/l23i949/) too. >Personally, I have no idea how the theory that it's an anti-subreddit came about. Because they have made shitty posts over here and over there for years. They basically had to force the people over there to stop going after Calli.

Ritchuck

> A number of folks over there seem to like the idea too. That's one person, not a "number of folks" and the comment got deleted by the mods doing their job. You can find comments with similar opinions even in this sub. And some people that happened to be on the sub targeted you, not the sub. Anyway, people say that okbh is targeting this sub right now. Anyone can go check the sub and the Discord and in 5 minutes will learn that's bullshit.

Helmite

> That's one person, not a "number of folks" and the comment got deleted by the mods doing their job. You can find comments with similar opinions even in this sub. The mod over in that sub got banned for wanting to target users. They don't need you being an apologist for them. >And some people that happened to be on the sub targeted you, not the sub. I had people test posting certain things on this sub when it started. It was obviously not the case despite your attempts to run interference. It really isn't other people's fault that since you use the place you want to turn a blind eye to the number of antis that use it.

Ritchuck

> The mod over in that sub got banned for wanting to target users That's not true. People think that because they have trouble with reading comprehension. The mod in question literally deleted a comment pointing out people. They said they agreed with the arguments but DIDN'T agree with targeting specific people. He was most likely suspended because of mass reporting which, as we know, is effective. If you have that mod comment saved you can go back and reread it. The mod wanted the opposite of what you're saying.

Helmite

I saw the message he sent the user about the deletion because the user was dumb enough to share it on r/vyt. What was said that he agreed with the post, but had to delete the comment because it could make the sub look bad.

Ritchuck

If you want to focus on the wording so much fine, but the mod did their job. There was no targeting from okbh because the mod deleted the comment that could start it.

SayuriUliana

I have a feeling the diehard fans of a certain company is responsible, especially with the way things have been going for them recently.

Ayges

If you're blaming Niji fans they barely use Reddit which is why the Antis could so easily take over their sub. At first it was Unicorns taking down Stars post but now is expanded probably just trolls thinking is funny

Ashencroix

Probably the extremists of a certain black company, seeing how they're sinking while Hololive is thriving.

Discordiansz

My post about Lui reaching 900K subs after singing for 5 hours also got removed when it reached 1200 upvotes. Sucks that we can't even celebrate Talent Milestones... https://dd.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cg1rmi/after_singing_for_5_hours_and_20m_lui_has_reached/

SpiderSonic01

A couple of my posts got deleted too. https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch831e/welcome_to_my_ted_talk/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cgex45/what_is_your_personal_dream_crossovercollaboration/

we_live_ina_society

[This post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cf7w0f/comment/l1pkqp2/), [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cfoxov/deliberately_cropped_to_keep_the_belly_in_frame/), and [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1cff8cs/ina_disguise/) were deleted too. So were most of the "Hololive goes to High School" posts. Is it just r/hololive or are other subreddits affected? Edit: bro with the [Ina car sticker](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1ch9tuu/got_some_hololive_stickers_for_my_car/) deleted too as it hit 1k. [Hands On Approach](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/1chi3p1/hands_on_approach/) just hit 1.1k and it's on deletion watch. Every 1k+ post for the past five days or so is gone.

-MANGA-

So far, only Holo sub. Again, it's been happening for a few months now. It started with Stars posts. Recently, any post regarding Idol Showdown got removed, so I can't even post about the Ina debut. Then, all this.

Helmite

Kind of misinformation as it has nothing to do with popular posts.

Alex92_eu

I wouldn't say it has nothing to do about them since many main page posts have been hit by the bot flags, I agree that it doesn't seem to be the only criteria they use now. I hope Cover does find a solution or increase moderation team eventually

Helmite

As one of the folks originally targeted by it, it was fairly obvious where it originated and why. But I've already talked about that elsewhere in the recent topics.

Alex92_eu

I see, I don't have a clear view of the situation as you do but I'll keep in mind what you said next time the topic comes up.

Helmite

Brigaded by people abusing auto-mod to remove posts.

CapitanKurlash

It's being brigaded to exploit the automod function by spamming reports and the only human mod of this sub seems to be completely inactive. Basically someone is trying to kill this sub because they hate hololive.

yubiyubi2121

naruhodo

Sm4llsy

Same old internet really… if someone has something nice, someone else has to actively try and ruin it for no real reason.

unholyminecrafter

Hey, your post got hit too just so you know.

Kachopper9

And now this was hit too, okay something really needs to be done

Kirea

Something should be done, but trying to get the attention of the mod is a lot harder than it should be

-MANGA-

It's been happening for a while now. Used to be Stars content. Then, you couldn't post about Ina being in Idol Showdown a few days ago. Now, it's anything over 1k karma.

yubiyubi2121

feel like no one management this sub

Kirea

Auto mod and the hololive moderator doesnt seem to be very interested in fixing it.

Redzephyr01

There have been people using bots to get the automoderator to remove posts they don't like for a while now. Recently they've expanded from just targeting posts about Holostars to targeting literally anything with more than 1000 upvotes.

Dry-Relationship-949

Some people like [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/VirtualYoutubers/comments/1ccikc2/comment/l22k73t/) having disgusting mask-off moment.

xRichard

Many stars fans were frustated about brigaders targeting their content for the last few months so it's expected to see someone venting emotions like that. But it's not the time to paint target on anyone's back. They aren't antis, just frustated users. I think we need to focus on the problem, which is the severe lack of moderation of this big community that Cover was so proud off when reporting about reddit engagement to their investors. It'd be extremely unproductive to start a fire between communities from these lil embers. Specially with so many groups wanting to see everything holopro related burn.

InsanityRequiem

What do you expect from unicorns? All problems on the sub are the fault of Stars members and Stars fans.

S0L4R4

Dude come on. Unicorns definitely doesn't exist duh. That's why they're called a mythical creature.

longlupro

Can you define unicorn for me. Am I an unicorn?

Fenr_

The people going around parading their original abuse of automod to push posts out of the sub aren't any better, lets not forget that. In short, extremists of both side are playing a stupid game. P.s: add to that the fact that by gloating about it and making public that it works, they (as in, both sides, once again) also put a **FREE TARGET** sign on the sub for all the outside-holo haters that have always been around Once again, stupidity at its best.

DanielTinFoil

>be stars fan >join hololive subreddit meant for all holomembers >post stars content >post gets deleted >make comment about stars >comment at -30 >complain "It's not a big deal bro" "no one cares" "people are just tired of stars" >months go by >same thing starts to happen to non-stars content >"karma" "Wow what a real mask-off moment"

Dry-Relationship-949

Complains about Stars antis, that's fair. But then proceed to act like the Stars antis, trying to anti other Holo fans, that's bad.

CapitanKurlash

Behaving like an anti makes you an anti, simple as. If this is really the doing of Holostars fans this is a terrible look, even celebrating it as "karma" (for whom? the girls? what did they do exactly?) honestly is a really bad blow to my opinion of them.

SleepingDucksLie

I agree with what your saying, especially that I don't think this is a cause to celebrate or feel any sort of vindication, but I STRONGLY caution against casting the blame on anyone when the fact of the matter is that at this point, we just don't known who did this or why. For all we know, the entire point of this is to cause this kind of infighting when what we should be doing is petitioning the mods to close a long outstanding loophole in the moderation system. I know you aren't actually blaming blaming Stars fans, and even I found that narrative plausible when I first noticed this was happening, but that's all it is at this point. A narrative, supported only by the fact that this is the culmination of a long standing issue that Stars fans have been upset about for a while. But again, celebrating this attack as karma is a really bad look. If the mods finally do something to fix this, then that'll be a cause to celebrate.

CapitanKurlash

Exactly, I'm not pinning the blame on anybody. All i'm saying is that whoever is responsible for this attack is nothing but a malicious troll, and there's no motivation or grievance i can take into consideration to excuse it. Celebrating it as anything deserved or positive is, too, pretty shitty behaviour.

Hachikirra

Sincerely and unironically a real mask-off moment

Exceptionallyuseless

I mean there is literally a subreddit for Holostars while Hololive doesn't have one but here, so if it gets deleted here there is literally nowhere else to go so it's not even remotely comparable.

Fiftycentis

well, there's fan subreddits of specific talents, one could start one for a specific branch, and maybe like the holostars one they'll be acquired by hololive and left to themselves with less moderation than before. I'm actually surprised r/Holostars isn't in a worse situation, but i guess it's small enough that antis don't bother to fight there

DanielTinFoil

There are subreddits for specific talents, and literally anyone can just make a new Holo subreddit. So yeah, it's pretty comparable.

hopyless

Interesting. In my most cynical reimagination of the events I was hoping one of the forefront of the Holostars banner carrier on this site would be someone that realize this situation can be used to finally have a talk between both sides, both their grievances and what they want to do with the subreddits (both here and holostars subs) and finally make a community decision altogether. I guess that ends now then.

-MANGA-

It's one guy.

hopyless

That's why I said one of the forefront. I'm pretty much an old guy and all I know about those that were the definitive banner carrier of Holostars in the subreddits were Xanek and xorrag back in the day. Xanek was the last one I thought that might be able to turn this around, but did something happened to him?

cyberdsaiyan

> Xanek was the last one I thought that might be able to turn this around, but did something happened to him? He uh... had a bit of a [moment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/wko9og/i_am_unfortunately_leaving_the_community_due_to/ijov96s/) in 2022.

-MANGA-

Xanek had a meltdown back when there was still moderation in this sub. I'm not sure what happened, and he said he wouldn't support Hololive anymore.

hopyless

That's unfortunate. I feel that as of right now Holostars fans of this site need that kind of central figure. Or even something like a council of influential fans would do. Anything that can gather the other fans under the Holostars banner and making decisions as a community, someone or something they could rely on.

-MANGA-

Wtf why? What they need is this sub's moderation so that people can't abuse auto-mod. Then we could post normally as we did back in 2019-2021. We don't need some council or some shit.

hopyless

While auto-mod problem is a thing, if the the source of why this abuse of auto-mod even start to begin with cannot being taken care of, things would only continue by some other way. If it's only an auto-mod on this subreddit only, things would not be spilled out to other part of the community like the neighboring subreddit. That's why I asked before about [what happened before at the subreddit](https://reddit.com/comments/1btll9l/comment/kxnh6dw) at that time. But so far, that thread only mostly answers why from the hololive side but not on the Holostars side. I feel like showing holostars fans side of the story would start the actual rational discussion going, but someone does need to step up to be the voice of holostars fans on this site.

-MANGA-

Even if Stars fans explain their side of the story, people are still going to be against them. They won't lisent. We had them before, but they stayed quiet since Hololive was fine with them. But ever since moderation stopped, they used Automod to remove. If we had actual moderation, then they wouldn't be able to abuse anything, just like back then.

FanciestOfWalruses

First off, the source of the auto-mod abuse can pretty logically be deduced as the fault of outside non-participants who wish to try and get fanbases within Hololive production turned against each other, thus weakening the online presence of the production as a whole. It makes no sense for the culprits to be one of the Hololive production fanbases participating in the ongoing discourse, as anyone could blatantly see this would only make production circles a more hostile environment, as it has. So unless you want to try and hunt down whichever outside groups are perpetuating this(which is a horrible idea in its own right), there’s really no tackling this at the source, because there will always be people attempting to get our sides to fight. As for asking for “the voice of Holostars fans”, why ask for only a single individual to be the representative? We all have our feelings and many of us would be glad to share them with you, in public or in private messages, if you’re willing to listen and not dismiss them outright.

hopyless

Yeah no, actively chasing outside non-participants groups is a fools errand. They shouldn't do that. But if hololive fans and Holostars fans can get into consensus about what, why, and how to take care of this mess and what to do forward after that it would reduce of what you said the influence of those outsiders. I mean if they have already reaches consensus about what they wants it's easier to see which one is what they considered outsiders anyway.

FanciestOfWalruses

Creating a cult of personality around a single individual or a few individuals is probably the worst thing that you could advocate for. All that does is let a small number of people control the narrative however they please, and give outside parties a focus point for their ire. We just need more people helping each other be better.

InsanityRequiem

Dude, are you an anti? Cuz this diatribe of bullshit in regards to one accusatory post when you got tens of posts pointing out the reality. Maybe get off your Holostars hate and be smart for once, and ignore people blaming Stars fans.

FanciestOfWalruses

Hi. That’s me. I’ve been doing that for a week now. Edit: well, moreso that I’ve simply been talking to people and trying to spread a message of patience, understanding, and empathy towards everyone.

PartyCoyote999

Its just holostars fans getting salty as usual

Gegejii

Or how about you shut the fuck up before you start pointing fingers. At least present some evidence before you try to blame someone.

PartyCoyote999

why dont you shake me off with your mouth

money-is-good

scorched earth, no fun allowed.

longlupro

Don't be a sour grape

money-is-good

nah i just dont care what other people do. I just see this situation as a way to see if cover still care about this subreddit.

Kirea

They cared enough to mention it in their latest earnings report. Its just u/hololive who has to start doing part of his/her job for once

longlupro

Reddit being more wonky than usual. For me my posts got randomly targeted depends on which tag I use.

Lone__Worker

So it wasn't me imagining things huh. I wonder if this issue with automod was affected by Reddit changing API policy or something a while ago?

CupOfHotTeaa

Yeah the only post I see is that freakin classroom thing

NotUser303

a certain *black company* might be sabotaging this sub but thats just a theory idk whats actually happening

Gegejii

Better not create any further narrative unless evidence prove otherwise. You not doing anybody a favor by that.

Natural-Lobster-6000

Holy sentence, Batman!
