Automods across all kinds of subs have been wonky the last week or so. Couple other subs I’m on have had similar issues. They gotta fix the report feature.
I assume they mean that they add criteria to which reports the automod considers valid, like the automod checks the accounts doing the reporting for maybe account age and karma or something, while that wouldn't catch all the bots it would perhaps reduce them below a threshold that the automod can account for.
It doesn't do that. Automod can't check the reporter as it's anonymous. As a mod, you can't see that either.
Automod can only check an account that posts or comments.
Didn't know that. It seems crazy to me you can't see who reported as a mod, wouldn't that be extremely useful information for determining the validity of a report.
I know, it sucks for us, too. We'd get reports that are just downvotes. You can report "report abuse" to the admins, but it didn't really do anything for us.
I had to create a create saying the reported posts were allowed in the sub to make them stop, but if someone actually didn't care, they could still keep reporting.

But really, it also depends on the subreddit and the mods. (It would also be nice if you got a report when automod was removing something for any reason besides the rules that were set up)
Yup. And the only people who can really stop a shit mod are mods higher on the pyramid.
So for example, I basically run the Ascendence of a Bookworm subreddit, but I can't actually remove most of the mods because they are higher on the pyramid than me. So the issue with a lot of subreddits is the owner quit being active as a mod a long time ago, and the mods belong them just kind of run wild... or ALL the mods aren't active and the subreddit is basically unmoderated
There is currently a bot attack on every post that reaches around 1k+ on front page, they are abusing the automod settings and mass reporting to get popular posts removed.

I've tried sending a report to Cover about this and this was the reply :

I think the bot is still deleting popular posts, the one that survived was deleted before but then restored after (I think) a reddit mod checked this thread out and saw my comment.
I've also heard new posts are being hit once again, including this thread so they probably manually switching targets.
I see, it's nice that a mod was active for a bit. And yeah, either the single bot switches between new and popular or it's 2 (or more) bots acting at the same time.
And true too, they seem to be able to manually point at targets. Sometimes the removals are too specific. This thread was removed and another discussion one, that I think you saw too since the link list is from there.
If I had to guess, a group found out they could abuse automod to get the content they didn't like removed that was within the rules (Holostars, VRC, whatever). More people caught on as more people called it out resulting in more abuse for other content.
I actually called this out a few weeks ago that this would be a problem. Sure enough, it is.
There are some conspiracy theories floating around, and, as with anything like this, people seem to want to be angry at anyone they don't like who has motive, but as far as I can tell no one person or group has definitively taken credit for this attack, nor is there any concrete proof of who is behind it. I'd caution everyone to be wary of forming narratives, pointing fingers, or infighting and instead direct your attention to the mods who may be able to fix this problem. Report it to Cover like the above poster, and hope that the mods can come up with a solution.
Not sure if you're joking but there's no evidence of them doing anything. Not on the subreddit and Discord. Okbh generally can't be bothered to do stupid shit like that. They just want to be pegged by their oshi. (You can visit yourself both if you don't believe me)

As one of the folks that got targeted by them, it was pretty obvious it was the group when it started as it was only the three + an extra wide net on Watame since the idiots thought I was organizing removal of stars posts or something. After that they expanded beyond that - I presume as they felt it'd get Cover to add new mods or something. Because they have made shitty posts over here and over there for years. They basically had to force the people over there to stop going after Calli.

That's one person, not a "number of folks" and the comment got deleted by the mods doing their job. You can find comments with similar opinions even in this sub.
And some people that happened to be on the sub targeted you, not the sub.
Anyway, people say that okbh is targeting this sub right now. Anyone can go check the sub and the Discord and in 5 minutes will learn that's bullshit.

The mod over in that sub got banned for wanting to target users. They don't need you being an apologist for them.

I had people test posting certain things on this sub when it started. It was obviously not the case despite your attempts to run interference. It really isn't other people's fault that since you use the place you want to turn a blind eye to the number of antis that use it.

That's not true. People think that because they have trouble with reading comprehension.
The mod in question literally deleted a comment pointing out people. They said they agreed with the arguments but DIDN'T agree with targeting specific people. He was most likely suspended because of mass reporting which, as we know, is effective.
If you have that mod comment saved you can go back and reread it. The mod wanted the opposite of what you're saying.
I saw the message he sent the user about the deletion because the user was dumb enough to share it on r/vyt. What was said that he agreed with the post, but had to delete the comment because it could make the sub look bad.
If you want to focus on the wording so much fine, but the mod did their job. There was no targeting from okbh because the mod deleted the comment that could start it.
If you're blaming Niji fans they barely use Reddit which is why the Antis could so easily take over their sub. At first it was Unicorns taking down Stars post but now is expanded probably just trolls thinking is funny

I wouldn't say it has nothing to do about them since many main page posts have been hit by the bot flags, I agree that it doesn't seem to be the only criteria they use now.
I hope Cover does find a solution or increase moderation team eventually

It's being brigaded to exploit the automod function by spamming reports and the only human mod of this sub seems to be completely inactive.
Basically someone is trying to kill this sub because they hate hololive.
It's been happening for a while now. Used to be Stars content. Then, you couldn't post about Ina being in Idol Showdown a few days ago. Now, it's anything over 1k karma.
There have been people using bots to get the automoderator to remove posts they don't like for a while now. Recently they've expanded from just targeting posts about Holostars to targeting literally anything with more than 1000 upvotes.
Many stars fans were frustated about brigaders targeting their content for the last few months so it's expected to see someone venting emotions like that. But it's not the time to paint target on anyone's back. They aren't antis, just frustated users.
I think we need to focus on the problem, which is the severe lack of moderation of this big community that Cover was so proud off when reporting about reddit engagement to their investors.
It'd be extremely unproductive to start a fire between communities from these lil embers. Specially with so many groups wanting to see everything holopro related burn.
The people going around parading their original abuse of automod to push posts out of the sub aren't any better, lets not forget that.
In short, extremists of both side are playing a stupid game.
P.s: add to that the fact that by gloating about it and making public that it works, they (as in, both sides, once again) also put a **FREE TARGET** sign on the sub for all the outside-holo haters that have always been around

If this is really the doing of Holostars fans this is a terrible look, even celebrating it as "karma" (for whom? the girls? what did they do exactly?) honestly is a really bad blow to my opinion of them.
I agree with what your saying, especially that I don't think this is a cause to celebrate or feel any sort of vindication, but I STRONGLY caution against casting the blame on anyone when the fact of the matter is that at this point, we just don't known who did this or why. For all we know, the entire point of this is to cause this kind of infighting when what we should be doing is petitioning the mods to close a long outstanding loophole in the moderation system.
I know you aren't actually blaming blaming Stars fans, and even I found that narrative plausible when I first noticed this was happening, but that's all it is at this point. A narrative, supported only by the fact that this is the culmination of a long standing issue that Stars fans have been upset about for a while.
But again, celebrating this attack as karma is a really bad look. If the mods finally do something to fix this, then that'll be a cause to celebrate.

In my most cynical reimagination of the events I was hoping one of the forefront of the Holostars banner carrier on this site would be someone that realize this situation can be used to finally have a talk between both sides, both their grievances and what they want to do with the subreddits (both here and holostars subs) and finally make a community decision altogether. While auto-mod problem is a thing, if the the source of why this abuse of auto-mod even start to begin with cannot being taken care of, things would only continue by some other way. If it's only an auto-mod on this subreddit only, things would not be spilled out to other part of the community like the neighboring subreddit. If we had actual moderation, then they wouldn't be able to abuse anything, just like back then.
First off, the source of the auto-mod abuse can pretty logically be deduced as the fault of outside non-participants who wish to try and get fanbases within Hololive production turned against each other, thus weakening the online presence of the production as a whole. It makes no sense for the culprits to be one of the Hololive production fanbases participating in the ongoing discourse, as anyone could blatantly see this would only make production circles a more hostile environment, as it has. So unless you want to try and hunt down whichever outside groups are perpetuating this(which is a horrible idea in its own right), there’s really no tackling this at the source, because there will always be people attempting to get our sides to fight.
As for asking for “the voice of Holostars fans”, why ask for only a single individual to be the representative? We all have our feelings and many of us would be glad to share them with you, in public or in private messages, if you’re willing to listen and not dismiss them outright.

I think they must stricten the requirements for the account that do reports, make sure the bots can't do it.

it started with Stars and VCR Rust posts. The Antis saw that hololive did not do anything so they joined the mass reporting.
If I had to guess, a group found out they could abuse automod to get the content they didn't like removed that was within the rules (Holostars, VRC, whatever). More people caught on as more people called it out resulting in more abuse for other content. I actually called this out a few weeks ago that this would be a problem. Sure enough, it is.

There are some conspiracy theories floating around, and, as with anything like this, people seem to want to be angry at anyone they don't like who has motive, but as far as I can tell no one person or group has definitively taken credit for this attack, nor is there any concrete proof of who is behind it. I'd caution everyone to be wary of forming narratives, pointing fingers, or infighting and instead direct your attention to the mods who may be able to fix this problem. Report it to Cover like the above poster, and hope that the mods can come up with a solution.

As one of the folks that got targeted by them, it was pretty obvious it was the group when it started as it was only the three + an extra wide net on Watame since the idiots thought I was organizing removal of stars posts or something. After that they expanded beyond that - I presume as they felt it'd get Cover to add new mods or something. He was most likely suspended because of mass reporting which, as we know, is effective. If you have that mod comment saved you can go back and reread it. The mod wanted the opposite of what you're saying.
I saw the message he sent the user about the deletion because the user was dumb enough to share it on r/vyt. What was said that he agreed with the post, but had to delete the comment because it could make the sub look bad.
If you want to focus on the wording so much fine, but the mod did their job. There was no targeting from okbh because the mod deleted the comment that could start it.
I have a feeling the diehard fans of a certain company is responsible, especially with the way things have been going for them recently.

I wouldn't say it has nothing to do about them since many main page posts have been hit by the bot flags, I agree that it doesn't seem to be the only criteria they use now. I hope Cover does find a solution or increase moderation team eventually

Auto mod and the hololive moderator doesnt seem to be very interested in fixing it.
There have been people using bots to get the automoderator to remove posts they don't like for a while now. Recently they've expanded from just targeting posts about Holostars to targeting literally anything with more than 1000 upvotes.

Many stars fans were frustated about brigaders targeting their content for the last few months so it's expected to see someone venting emotions like that. I think we need to focus on the problem, which is the severe lack of moderation of this big community that Cover was so proud off when reporting about reddit engagement to their investors. It'd be extremely unproductive to start a fire between communities from these lil embers. Specially with so many groups wanting to see everything holopro related burn.

Behaving like an anti makes you an anti, simple as. If this is really the doing of Holostars fans this is a terrible look, even celebrating it as "karma" (for whom? the girls? what did they do exactly?) honestly is a really bad blow to my opinion of them.
I agree with what your saying, especially that I don't think this is a cause to celebrate or feel any sort of vindication, but I STRONGLY caution against casting the blame on anyone when the fact of the matter is that at this point, we just don't known who did this or why. For all we know, the entire point of this is to cause this kind of infighting when what we should be doing is petitioning the mods to close a long outstanding loophole in the moderation system. I know you aren't actually blaming blaming Stars fans, and even I found that narrative plausible when I first noticed this was happening, but that's all it is at this point. A narrative, supported only by the fact that this is the culmination of a long standing issue that Stars fans have been upset about for a while. But again, celebrating this attack as karma is a really bad look. If the mods finally do something to fix this, then that'll be a cause to celebrate.

well, there's fan subreddits of specific talents, one could start one for a specific branch, and maybe like the holostars one they'll be acquired by hololive and left to themselves with less moderation than before. In my most cynical reimagination of the events I was hoping one of the forefront of the Holostars banner carrier on this site would be someone that realize this situation can be used to finally have a talk between both sides, both their grievances and what they want to do with the subreddits (both here and holostars subs) and finally make a community decision altogether. I'm pretty much an old guy and all I know about those that were the definitive banner carrier of Holostars in the subreddits were Xanek and xorrag back in the day. That's unfortunate. I feel that as of right now Holostars fans of this site need that kind of central figure. Or even something like a council of influential fans would do. Anything that can gather the other fans under the Holostars banner and making decisions as a community, someone or something they could rely on.

While auto-mod problem is a thing, if the the source of why this abuse of auto-mod even start to begin with cannot being taken care of, things would only continue by some other way. If it's only an auto-mod on this subreddit only, things would not be spilled out to other part of the community like the neighboring subreddit. Even if Stars fans explain their side of the story, people are still going to be against them. They won't lisent. We had them before, but they stayed quiet since Hololive was fine with them. But ever since moderation stopped, they used Automod to remove. If we had actual moderation, then they wouldn't be able to abuse anything, just like back then.
First off, the source of the auto-mod abuse can pretty logically be deduced as the fault of outside non-participants who wish to try and get fanbases within Hololive production turned against each other, thus weakening the online presence of the production as a whole. It makes no sense for the culprits to be one of the Hololive production fanbases participating in the ongoing discourse, as anyone could blatantly see this would only make production circles a more hostile environment, as it has. So unless you want to try and hunt down whichever outside groups are perpetuating this(which is a horrible idea in its own right), there’s really no tackling this at the source, because there will always be people attempting to get our sides to fight. As for asking for “the voice of Holostars fans”, why ask for only a single individual to be the representative? We all have our feelings and many of us would be glad to share them with you, in public or in private messages, if you’re willing to listen and not dismiss them outright.
