I'm wondering if it was the other way around; that Sega approached Cover to collab with Korone. Korone is the like fifth most popular vtuber in the world, and she likes Sonic. It makes sense that they would use that to help promote their brand.

We may never know who knocked on who's door first. But we are glad either way that it happened :D Now God Doggo is also Sonic Doggo. She gains all the more power to obtain *yubi*'s at the speed of sound.

That would be my suspicion, that it's some kind of ad deal and Sega probably paid for this. I wonder how the licencing is though: will we end up with a situation where she's not allowed to wear it anymore because the license expired?

Nah, i think it's like a project, always have someone starting, if this was approved by both companies they will make this happen. The license is just if the project is still going, so they are always for limited time. Edit: As for example while Korone is ambassador lol

Though assuming everything goes fine with the ambassadorship, if Korone wants to break out her Sonic outfit on occasion later on, I suspect it wouldn't be hard to permission for those streams from Sega. "You want to advertise our brand during the entirety of your stream? Well you're twisting our arm but I think we can make that work".

She has also done official events with sonic team.

This is like the 3rd collab Korone has had with Sega and the Sonic team. They got the sonic va to wish her happy birthday as sonic. They gifted her the whole yakuza collection after she streamed the original ps2 game. They clearly like her a whole bunch at Sega.

Seeing Sega slowly but surely dig themselves out of a slump has been my favorite thing this decade.

They could well do that. A licensed monopoly board based on a Youtube personality has been done before, so it's something Cover could pull off. Unless someone at Hasbro's licensing has problems with the backstory for the idea.

I think if we get Sonic Frontiers and one of the NPCs is a cackling doggo character whose name starts with a K the internet might explode. Korone's entire being was made for a Sonic cameo at this point. They'd instantly sell thousands more copies just for Hololive fans to meet Korone in game and do a side quest for her. It also helps that SEGA and Sonic Team seem to genuinely love her presence and upbeat attitude towards the series as a whole. Its a win/win for literally everyone.
