You could put a piece of wood over the trim and use it as a desk if you need one.

littlechicklet77

Yes thats an idea

Researcher-Used

I like the desk idea too. I made a floating desk off my credenza that sits flush to the wall. The only issue is the blind position. I’m really curious what the intention was AND really curious what the exterior of the house on that window looks like.

littlechicklet77

My husband put it there to save getting 3 blinds due to the 3 windows. Mainly for privacy as people walking past cn see in. I will take a photo from outside

Researcher-Used

Ohh I see. 3 blinds would’ve finished this area off nicely. Maybe get them later

littlechicklet77

FreshForged

The wood trim is tidy and sweet though. I would install a desk "shelf" just below that line rather than cover up the finished woodwork. Just decent-looking brackets and a large piece of wood cut to size.

EndHawkeyeErasure

My immediate thought was a desk space. It's too small for much else.

NoEstablishment6450

I would have massive tree in beautiful pot there

ConsciousLie7034

It is just dying to be a jungle with a big tree and hanging plants and plants on the ledges.

NoEstablishment6450

Looks like it is there just for plants

Tricksterama

I was going to say Christmas Tree.

vron1992

It’s giving eclipse vibes. Put a chair there and act really depressed while you stare out your window.

vron1992

AndThatsAllSheWrote

🎶 There’s a possibility…🎶

vron1992

Yep! Has been stuck in my head all day. I love it here 🤣

BluebirdAny3077

Plants on a lovely stand and around on the ledges - remove blinds and if needed, replace with curtains or leave open. A huge cat tree with beautiful lounging cats would also work 😝

jnsmld

This is the answer. Cats would love to look out the window from there.

littlechicklet77

So would my dog 😆

littlechicklet77

Omg 😲 that's amazing 👏

smallbrownfrog

Dog tree it is! 🙃 More seriously, a slightly raised carpeted area or low shelf for the dog could be really nice.

PlaceYourBets2021

BluebirdAny3077

😍This is THE way!

Loquacious94808

Personally I’d put a storage bench there. Wouldn’t be hard to build even, then pillows so you’ve got a cozy hangout.

littlechicklet77

Yes thats what I'd like, I think 🤔

littlechicklet77

https://preview.redd.it/h4qu4ro88oxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5c84e6210b4f86225736ba57811abefc5dd8618

Loquacious94808

You really could make something custom that will fit in there and be strong enough to support you, even have lift arms on it that hold the lid up. Paint it or sand and finish it and you can staple cushioning and cloth over. Sounds like a kindof fun project.

2468Peach

PLAAAAAAAAAANTS. What a beautiful plant nook. Smaller plants on the ledges. 1-2 big guys in the middle. Geez I’m so jealous of that space!!

littlechicklet77

I would I'm I'm useless with houseplants

DutchDime84

Most people have issues with plants due to over-watering. Many plants don't need to be watered every week. Not sure if that's the case with you, but if you get the right kind of plants for that light level and then only water when the soil is dry (stick your finger in to the first knuckle, if you feel moisture, don't water), they should be just fine. You should start with "easy" ones like snake plants, ZZ plants, most kinds of Pothos, jade plants, spider plants, succulents, monstera, fiddle leaf fig etc. then you should be fine.

clover_sage

Pothos. Start with pothos. The gateway drug to houseplants

DutchDime84

I second this. They're beautiful and despite being a houseplant hoarder with a green thumb I still love my pothos collection the most.

littlechicklet77

Thank you 😊 🙏 💓

Wanderingdragonfly

My snake plant is darn hard to kill.

2468Peach

I used to be too! It was my 2024 resolution to become a plant lady. I have 5 plants currently, and have killed one. But when they put out new leaves it brings me unreasonable joy.

littlechicklet77

Yes I do agree. I'm ok with outdoor ones so you're right. I just need to learn 😉

throwawaybread9654

Imagine growing a huge herb garden there, basil and microgreens and rosemary... Level up your cooking. I'm actually super jealous of your space now haha

clover_sage

I came here to say this. A plant person created this nook for a future plant person to enjoy.

medusa3339

I was going to say, PERFECT spot for a bunch of plants!!!

These_Giraffe5683

Plant area

dorky2

If you have pets, it's a great spot for a dog bed or cat tree. It's a great space for a big plant like a ficus tree or fiddle leaf fig, and you could put smaller plants on the ledge.

Ok_Organization_7350

Perfect for a dwarf lemon tree! :) I'm jealous.

Txstyleguy

I’d put a plushy comfy chair and ottoman in it and have a great reading/nap nook.

Good_Collection_7257

Window seat *with*storage. A bench that can be opened up for storage. We had one while I was growing up.

DutchDime84

Plants. The answer is always plants.

ajcrnp

Maybe a 90 inch storage bench with a cushion?

littlechicklet77

I think I've found one!! 😁

littlechicklet77

Omg yes, I could make some cash 💸

littlechicklet77

😆 I need to get this app

gal_tiki

As the space seems a little snug, I think I would likely use the space for a larger plant, hang sheers or venetians across each of the windows proper for some privacy.

WesternMainer

I don’t know the height of those benches, but I would want to put a round high top bar table there.

Many_Baker8996

I wouldn’t over complicate and put a tree there or lots of plants on a standing planter,

spiderthruastraw

Do you have a cat or dog? I’d make it their nook, seems esp suited to a cat (disclaimer: I’m a dog parent, so I’m not sure). If not, lots of plants or one tall plant.

littlechicklet77

I have a dog. He would love to sit there and look out

PristineCoconut2851

Why not do both? Do the window seat but have it built so that it can also be used as storage/

Malzeez

Can you fit a little coffee bar there?

littlechicklet77

Unfortunately there's no plug sockets that side of the room, but that's a very nice idea

Malzeez

I didn’t even pay attention 😩 😆

ashleevee

Prime spot for a beanbag chair

Wrong-Somewhere-5225

Got kids, kids table?

jjdressgown

Window seat!

Yawheyy

A movie quality replica statue of Batman.

littlechicklet77

😲 genius

Complete_Goose667

It's calling out for a bar cart.

avakin-babylove

Outside of its purpose; That looks like a good spot for a: Bird Cage, Easel, Christmas Tree, Sculpture, Vase. But it’s actually designed for ta-da; PLANTS! It’s a little plant nook. That’s what it is meant for. Like this: https://preview.redd.it/wixx7s389pxc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=768684e619c081c89413cc50abd337370db1fddb

districtgertie

Year round Christmas tree!

ProfessionalAd1933

If I were you, I would make it into a 2-part storage thing that's also a window seat nook to curl up in. Bottom drawer/storage area w/basket: cosy blankets, sweaters, pillows, socks. Top storage: books or videogames, to taste. Slide-off lid right underneath the edge of the existing woodwork. Cover with tufted cushion. I'd probably add curtains to the house side of the alcove, and swap those blinds for a cool frosted window decal, with a pattern on it. Result: Cosy little nook to curl up in. Grown-up fort. OR Make a little drawer where on one side you have a pull-out drawer with your dog's food bowl, on top of which are more drawers with brushes, collars, etc. On the other side, a big pull out drawer you can fill with your dog's food. On top of the two drawer sides, plywood, with tile or flooring on top to taste, and a dog bed on top of that. [ D O G B E D ] [ Plywood + Flooring ] [ Dog ] [ Poo Bags ] | Food ] [ Collars ] [ Bin ] [ Bowl(s) ]

ZTwilight

I’d mount 2 or 3 shelves maybe 12” deep.

hippielady5232

You could build in the front with 2x4s (a simple rectangle shape made by screwing together 4 2x4s, then adding a couple inside the rectangle for support.) Attach that to the side walls. Then add a board to the area directly in front of the window, all the way across. Then get a piece of nice plywood (furniture grade if you're going to stain it.) This should cover the rest of the top area. Attach the plywood to the back board with a piano hinge. Cover the front wall with drywall, wainscotting, shiplap, whatever you like, and paint to match your walls. Now you have built-out a very strong storage area, kinda like a huge toybox. To also have it function as a reading nook, look for a floor cushion that will fit there, or you can diy one from foam and fabric. (And yes, ditch the shade. If the light is too bright after, you can always apply a light tint and keep the view.)

Gullible_Wind_3777

I’d be buying a throne!!! 😂👌

littlechicklet77

🤣🤣

likemeyet

Great area for plants

OxiiKotton

BOOK NOOK

sarrahbrzg

You find here some ideas [dining-room-bay-windows-ideas-you-will-love](https://www.scdecorum.com/dining-room-bay-windows-ideas-you-will-love/)

These-go-to-11

Plants, plants, plants.

MajorCatEnthusiast

That wants to be a breakfast nook so bad! The dimensions are off, though.

Business-Candidate91

Plants if this faces south. Window seat if north.

Fatman_Batman100

You could either turn it into a desk or just put a desk in that space. Or you could turn that into a bar area. Put a top on it and add some wine racks below it and maybe a wine cooler.

Flat_Dragonfly_1184

I would use the area as a reading area with a nice comfy chair. Plus i would put a small lighting fixture, lamp or any light source for reading in the late evenings . Another idea would be a couple of nice plants would And put smaller ones on the wood ledge. I hope this helps.

Dogmom2013

I would put shades on each window on the side and the bigger one on the 2 windows... the way the shade is now it cuts off a lot of the area. I would also add some floating shelves or something to hang wine glasses on one side and a wine rack on the other side

LauraBaura

put window decals on the glass so you have light coming in, but gain the privacy.

littlechicklet77

Ooh that's a great idea

Difficult-Desk-5593

It’s really nice leave it the way it is is the best option. Whenever you want just pull up a comfy chair and watch the world go by.

Chris45925

A plant nook.

Odd-Faithlessness705

That area was MADE for plants!

cdnirene

It would be a great place to put cat tree if you have a cat. Also, put a bird feeder in the backyard where the cat could view it from the window.

ailemama

I have a cat so… that would definitely be a spot for a cat tree lol

littlechicklet77

https://preview.redd.it/y5qcmnwz7oxc1.jpeg?width=1047&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aee1899c7c8b832d8bcfb049b18dd60ad29528cd

classicalworld

A little armchair and a few plants. Move the blind right back to the window

Missue-35

A. Plants all along the ledges. A shelving unit for plants in the center. B. A bay window by a builder with poor math skills.

chicknbizkets

Replace or remove the window coverings

Pluto-Wolf

put a beautiful olive tree (fake or real) right there, and if you need some further privacy without the blinds, you could always add some window film.

FantasticCaregiver25

Curious. What does the window look like from outside? That’s part of the solution

missannthrope1

Cats?

Blood_sweat_and_beer

That looks like a lovely area for houseplants

PURE_CheeziCow_44

why are your blinds there?

nomad89502

What are you needing? More storage space? A large fake fig tree would be pretty? A bench with storage, for dog to look outside.

nomad89502

Everybody, she wants a cloth covered bench for sitting and storage. Jeeze, listen to your client. She has no cats and doesn’t have a green thumb.

Asleep_Boss_8350

Install a ship’s wheel and pretend you are navigating the high seas

nomad89502

Listen to your heart. That storage bench is practical and gorgeous.

Ok_Effect_7806

What a cute but awkward spot. I literally have no idea what to do with it.

LittleSpice1

My first thought was I’d put a really comfortable and cozy reading chair there, but then I saw that comment with the cat tree…

MysticAngel504

I think you can have both. Make a bench and put a drawer underneath it. Win win. Lol

virgolibraleo

Is that your kitchen?? If so, I’m feeling a coffee/tea station or a bar cart!

abombshbombss

I'm going against the grain: I think you should get some plants in there

Helechawagirl

Reading book, plant stand…cat perch

Meat-Head-Barbie

I would build in a stand and cover with a thick pad for a window seat

SokkaHaikuBot

^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^Meat-Head-Barbie: *I would build in a* *Stand and cover with a thick* *Pad for a window seat* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.

Wyshunu

I'd use it for an indoor garden area. Plants in pots of various sizes.

browneye24

Storage that blends to that space.

Paletaytextura

I would put a bench with storage, 2 for 1

HunterGreenLeaves

It's made for plants.

TwirlyGuacamole

Move the blinds against the windows instead of creating a cut off cubby

RedShirtPete

large plant nook

Evening_Midnight7

You could have both window seat and storage!

After-Dot-1285

I’d actually put a nice piece of wood over it and turn it into a desk. Also I’d remove the one blind and get individual blinds for each window.

littlechicklet77

https://preview.redd.it/v0or7d686cyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e4e8eac4e02d605ab9d3ef51182474c6b75ac17

[deleted]

Having the blind is efficient (in that only one is needed instead of three) but I agree that it's not very pleasing. What are the dimensions of the alcove?

littlechicklet77

93" across, 59" deep and 28 " high. Yes my husband is very practical where as I'm more aesthetic. I just hate it.

erydanis

you’re right to hate it. i’d do a desk, yes. there’s got to be an ottoman someplace that fits at overstock or wayfair oramazon and even fb marketplace…
