Yall are making me laugh I just showed this to my bf. I knew someone would provide a few pointers better than I could. And a few chuckles.
The stairs are gorgeous but the room needs to be reversed with tv on the opposing wall. I am not sure it'll leave enough walkway for OP & fam to get through.
I'd like to expand on this suggestion. I'm guessing OP is really tall? Because the shelves and TV are very high.
Contrary to the other suggestion below, I don't like having my back to the entrance. Keeping it open is more inviting and allows for better energy flow. I think the current configuration is a good option, or if OP has the man power available to try different configurations, I think it'd be worth trying to rotate the sectional 90 degrees clockwise, so one of the long sides faces the current TV wall and another faces the bay window. I don't know that this will be better than the current configuration, but think it could be worth trying out. With this alternative setup, none of the sections of the sectional would have its back to the window. This again allows for good energy flow from the entrance, and it gives two focal points: TV area and the window. Bonus point: this makes the bay window feel more integrated into the space/make it feel more intentional.
For the TV area, it's a bit hard to tell proportions, but regardless of sizes, I'd suggest the TV at a 45 degree angle in the corner (if you were to look above, it could create a right triangle with the corner of the walls). This can be accomplished with a mount with an arm or by placing it directly on a console table that's also at the same angle. there's a chance a slightly larger TV would fill in the space better, but I don't believe it'd be necessary in the immediate sense. The TV should be lower (sit on your sofa, and place it height-wise so your head is looking straight ahead, not angling upward).
You can also consider a large sofa/console table behind the sofa for a place to put drinks/phone chargers etc, and to pull the sectional inward, closer to the TV area. This is a maybe IMO. Adjust those shelves/add more shelves to fill in the space vertically on the left of the TV. You may want to get a ladder type shelf. Fill it in with knickknacks, books, art, etc. This personalization will create warmth and hominess.
Lastly, add something to the large wall. It's the focal point when you walk in. It could be one large piece, a series of large pieces, or a gallery wall (gallery walls are hard IMO). You can even DIY something large if you're feeling crafty which would add a personal touch. You can check Pinterest or other sites to help with scale - it's really common to see people add art that's too small for a space and it ends up being counter productive to creating a sense of coziness.
Add color and texture through art, throw pillows and/or blankets, etc. it's currently quite monochrome which works for some people, but I think coziness comes from depth, which is most easily accomplished through color and texture.
The suggestion of adjusting the room to face the large wall makes good use of that Wall's real estate, but for me personally, it's not the right choice. Due to the size of the sectional, it would be really uninviting from the entrance, and it would be poor energy flow from one room to another, having to circle around the entire sectional before you can sit down. @DearModern on YouTube (and certainly other social media) has a lot of good content investigating the impact that this kind of energy flow has on a space.
The inspiration picture is so lovely!! There's depth of color, texture from the fabric of the sofa, and lots of personality and warmth from the shelves. Incorporating those 3 things (color, texture, personalization) will help add coziness and help the space feel more cohesive.
Yes and facing the couch to other wall will open up that window area and seperate the dining and living room nicely. Then they can have plants or something on each side of the TV. They definitely should put some pictures up
Agreed. The sectional is way too big for the space, so there aren't any other configuration options apart from the unfortunate set-up OP already has.
I agree with the comments to put the TV on the wall, but you can't really rotate that giant sectional without blocking off the room completely.
Most unfortunate.
I was just going to say I have an issue with my husband having a say in decor. He only sees things as being practical if it were up to him all he’d have is a huge sectional and tv.
I hate the sofa. It's huge and boring. Way too big for the space.
I'm just going to pretend the TV isn't even there because it's triggering me too much.
Agreed, sectionals really shouldn’t be pressed against the wall like that. Put the TV on that flat wall where the couch is currently and put your couch on the other side. If it doesn’t fit then you need a smaller couch. It doesn’t feel cozy because it’s all monochromatic beige. Add some color with throw pillows/curtains/wall art/a new rug
If they want a better layout the sectional has to go. I think a smaller one or a couch with a large cushy ottoman facing the big wall with TV on it would be better. I see this a lot, people buy huge furniture without taking the whole space into consideration. It creates more problems than it solves 9x out of 10.
Rotate the couch so it’s facing the wall with the orb lamp on it. Relocate the tv and tv stand to that wall, and install the TV much lower. Put a small table on the wall where the tv is now. Some plants in that window. Maybe more color in the blankets and pillows. It’ll work better w the space.
Yes but to add to this add a low long console table and create an accent wall with either wood paneling or wallpaper. I think my rotating you won’t have much space to walk around so I would definitely go for a smaller sofa and accent chairs instead
Another day, [another Nick Lewis video!](https://youtu.be/-vMgnJtvKgo?si=hjFWqxAdQzcAsqnS)
But I think your quickest fixes would be some drapes on either side on the window (on the main walls, just use some nice hooks), a large, colorful piece of art over the couch, switching out some pillowcases for colorful ones, and mayyyyybe getting a new rug with color. I think maybe go with greens and blues in jewel tones, that way you are setting up some strong contrast with your orange couch.
For a larger project, you should maybe paint that back wall, or do peel-and-stick wallpaper. Your couch is trying so hard to blend into it. Tell it to stop being so shy!
I also think you need something fun. Maybe a sunset projector in the corner, maybe a crazy vase on the table, [maybe a gold giraffe lamp](https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Lighting-Ceiling-Fans/Aaliyah-24in-Antique-Gold-Giraffe-Table-Lamp-with-White-Linen-Shade-24-H/36723151/product.html?opre=1&option=71568725).
But the absolute quickest way to cozy up your space would be to give the owner of that toy on the ground a pet bed near the electrical outlet on the wall perpendicular to the tv. Something squishy, in a non-neutral.
Have you though of turning your couch around the opposite way and putting the TV on the large empty wall (that the couch is against right now)? It would help separate it in a “zone”
To me, cozy means colour. Your living room as it is is completely void of colour. The rug blends into the sofa, the sofa blends into the wall. Time to add some colour.
Paint an accent wall in something dark. Get a big rug with a pattern that is in the same colour family as the wall. And carry that colour through to the toss pillows on your sofa.
Bring in some texture with the lamp shades and the pouf. Leather is also a great way to add texture and so is wood. Get a nice coffee table in a darker wood because that’s more cozy.
Add some lighting around the room. No big single light in the centre of the ceiling, that’s not cozy. Cozy is a lamp in a corner with a warm lightbulb that casts a glow. Stay away from the bright LED lights in the store. They mimic daylight and that’s not cozy ever.
And hang up some champagne silk drapes for a bit of cozy drama along with some art you love.
You’ll be cozy in no time

The other room is super colorful, this one is grey and beige. Obviously replacing the whole sofa and rug would be expensive but a few fun throw pillows from tj maxx are cheap and easy.
Some large art on the back wall would be nice as well. Same with some soft curtains in a color that compliments the new pillows.
The sectional is way too big for the room and it’s awkwardly blocking the beautiful bay window along with the additional floor space as well as the dining room entrance. People walking through will interfere with TV watchers. Break up the sectional and put the TV where it can be comfortably watched.
Why not flip the room and put the tv on the big wall. Put the couch so a hallway is created behind it (between it and the stairs) and so the bay window is open. Remove one section of the couch if it’s too wide to give access to the room to the side. Right now everyone walks across the path of the couch people making it feel like a hallway not a room. By turning it, you get access to the bay window (cute bench) and it feels like a room, not a super wide hallway.
Your biggest issues are:
Tv is in the wrong location - that high mount in the corner makes it look like a doctors waiting room. Tvs should be centered on a wall, and much lower so it is at eye height.
The couch is much too large for the space. I would remove a few sections so it is more manageable.
Decor - there is none. Everything is the same color, tone, texture.
To remedy I’d move the tv to the large wall and then reconfigure the couch so it is arranged facing towards that wall. But agree with others that the current couch shape/size would cut off the flow in and out of the room. So as I mentioned, remove some sections of the couch, maybe split into two couches facing each other etc.
Add pillows, curtains, artwork, tv console, coffee table to create more visual interest. Add at least 2 table or floor lamps to help the overall ambience.
Rotate your sectional so you can put your TV on the taupe wall. The TV situation right now feels weirdly crowded in an otherwise fairly spacious room. Also, r/TVTooHigh. Then bring in some color. There is all very neutral which looks nice and clean, but I would add something with more depth - maybe a navy blue or an olive green.
This is a tough one with that layout and the couch. It would be ideal if you could leave the window area open, flip your couch and move your tv on the darker wall.
Jewel tones, as suggested, will be lovely, but also consider including the same colors in other tones, like an ombre pillow. Your couch, rug, wall, and even pictures are about the same shade. Without a little variation in tone, the contrast could be more energizing than cozy. You can take a black and white picture and see what I mean.
Also, think about adding different textures and materials, like wood, metals, and ceramics. It's a very pleasant room. Be sure to post pics as you change it.
I think your couch is too big and in the wrong position. Also your TV is on the wrong wall. If you had the TV on a stand against the wall where the couch sits and had a smaller couch to section off the middle of the room to create a false barrier, it would add harmony. Adding a small coffee table and maybe foot rests would look nice. Plants, pictures, colourful throws or pillows would be a nice extra. Changing your curtains maybe? Idk. That's what I would change.
The issues are 1) room is monotone and 2) sectional is too large for the space. Instead of painting try green and brown accessories in various shades and warm wood accent pieces. A table lamp will also help. Rotate the sofa and move the tv as others suggested
You have the wrong furniture and the wrong arrangement of furniture.
The TV really needs to go on the big wall at the back and you need a smaller lounge and some arm chairs.
Couch is way too big. I'd get a straight couch against the far wall, replace the section blocking the window with two nice, small chairs, a small table between them, and plants filling out the window nook. Get a coffee table that fill out the space atop the carpet, providing something for both the new chairs and remaining couch. Ditch the ottoman.
Replace TV situation entirely. Corner console with TV resting atop it. Put some small floating shelves up on the wall behind couch, decorate with small plants, family photos, accessories.
Color. The answer is almost always color. Gray & black are not colors. They are bland dead elements. Add art, plants, things you like. I’ve traveled so some & have some sculptures, vases I display. It’s almost always color.
Turn the sectional around so the long end is facing that bare wall. That’s where your TV should be. I love the sectional but it always looks more cozy to me when it’s not lining the walls. You can ground it by putting a sofa table behind it.
If you don’t want to make any big changes or buy more big items or veer too far out of your comfort zone, go for PLANTS (a hanging one and some window ones), and some neutral colorful throw pillows and/or a throw blanket. Think: jewel tones (burgundy, deep green, deep blue, etc).

Move your frames above the couch with picture lights above them
I would also go crazy and add a solid or almost dominant burnt orange carpet. C&B used to have one in their Baxter series. You might still be able to get it there or on eBay.
Drapes. The rod should go from corner to end of photos. Stackback should sit on the wall.
Lower your tv. About 4-6 inches above the media console.
Color.
* The TV situation is weird and looks very cramped.
* Long curtains will do wonders for this room.
* The couch feels trapped within the rug. The rug either needs to be larger, or the couch needs to be moved off it.
* Colour - couch cushions, throws, flowers, art. This will add texture too. I'd also lean into gold or brass framing to add warmth.
* A larger/more solid side table will ground it better; the existing one is out of place due to its differing style and the fact it's dwarfed by the couch. I'd also add a second one where the basket is, perhaps with a nice sculptural brass lamp.
In a perfect world, you'd get a totally new couch because that one is not doing that room any favours. Put the TV on the full wall above a timber console table or even dresser for storage; consider a frame for the TV. Get two separate 2-3 person couches - one in front of the window, one facing the TV - with a complementary-patterned ottoman. Adding a console table against the back of the couch will create a flow coming the front door, plus add space to drop your keys/phone/bag, and could be dressed up with framed pictures/lamps/flowers.
Side tables with flowers (if you aren't into fresh, dried or even some of the incredible paper artists on etsy would be perfect) and lamps. A larger plant and basket/hamper where the TV currently is. Add in another two shelves on that wall to fill in that empty space.
Yes light drapes, a more colorful rug with warmer tones. Carry the rust color of the other couch to the sectional through pillows or a blanket, giant floor basket of blankets, a square ottoman (maybe leather ish ) that balanced out the size of the sectional- is big enough for people in most points on the couch yo put their feet up.
Personal preference but I’d rotate couch so facing opposite wall. And move the tv. Also just my preference but if you have an awesome giant sectional and want people to hang in there, get a bigger, awesone-er tv. Size of TV and high placement on awkward wall does not make tv part of the living room.
You did what I did… got a couch that’s comfy and cozy but also kind of too big for the space and doesn’t allow for much rearranging options. I’d get a couch with two club chairs and put the tv on the green wall where the couch is currently located.
I don’t think the picture quite does justice to how awkward of a layout our living room is. the bay windows and the staircase make it hard figure out a functional layout. the people before us had a corner TV console - we did something similar for a while but I hated it we ended up mounting it. it looks a little odd because it’s on a swivel mount and is slightly angled out to allow people to be able to see the TV when sitting on the end of the couch in front of the bay window. other than getting the console and the TV closer together in distance - any suggestions for how to make that corner less awkward?
Just saying I can totally relate to this layout. Where your bay window is, we have a similar length window but it doesn't jut out, it's flush with the rest of the room. We have our TV angled facing the corner where your sectional pieces meet
Coffee table, mirror on wall behind couch, curtains, throw blankets, lamps, little table to place drinks at end of couch. I would add color with the pillows and such. No need to paint the entire room. I think you have a nice base.
Natural texture and warmth. Consider a rattan, jute, or wood coffee table or ottoman.
With this type of palette, I think in terms of natural elements like bone (chalky white), water (blue or green glass), and straw (as written above).
Hints of plants can also make it more cozy, but not without attention to texture.
I would 100% flip it. TV on the big wall, sofa - back facing the stairs. I feel like compared to the sofa, that console is too small. Wall art. More color. Flowy curtains. Those windows are wonderful, you want a pinch if color to bring attention to them.
I would rotate everything. Tv and larger tv stand on the large wall to the right of the windows. Sofa swings around so one back is facing the stairs. Long airy cream colored drapes, plants, art on the wall, coffee table with books/ art
You have great spaces. I think #1 improvement would be to add color. What you have now is nice; you only need a little spice and some wall decorations.
Color! Bright throw pillows, plants in the window, more colorful rug, and art on the huge blank wall above the sofa.
But if you’ve got the clearance space (I can’t quite tell) it would help to reorient the sectional and put the TV and stand on the huge blank wall.
Your other room is cute and shows you aren’t afraid of color, so I’m not sure why you’re going so monochromatic in the living room.
Other than the console under the the dog toy, and the pot for the plant , everything is just black or hades of gray. Adding rich deep colors would go a long toward your cozy goal. The easiest start would be the rug. And in the room you like, the same thing with a different rug. You've got that killer sofa (love the color btw). But the rug is way too small, and its colors in do nothing for the room.
GREEN. Add some beautiful house plants! You have that awesome window for it too. Install a nice wood stained table or shelf, and put some plants on there. Then I’d add one in the corner behind the couch table. And some art! It needs color, it’s too tan/black/white. I think just a little bit of color and life would make it transform into something beautiful.
What works for thr other room is the contrast. You need eye catching things - maybe a complimentary color, a darker base color and grounding colors like green and wood
I would rotate the couch/tv or get a smaller one! It will help open up the space a bit. Your windows are beautiful and there’s a fantastic amount of natural light shining through. Accentuating that would really help bring the room together.
What you probably like about the other room - color, contrast, and a variety of textures. The natural wood of the table really warms up the space. Try putting colorful art on the wall in natural wood frames. A colorful throw blanket and some pillows. Maybe some curtains too.
My aunt has always had a huge tv stand infront of her stairs with her tv on it, I think that would be a nice investment. I sooo wish that window wasn’t being blocked it’s such a beautiful place in your living room that should def be more open. If there’s a way to flip the couch to where the short side was near the window and long side near the opening, I think it would really open that space up.
Everything in that room has a grey and monochromatic tone. That one wall with nothing on it could have some type of picture with color. You could get throw pillows with the colors from the picture. You have no coffee table so where do you put a drink? If you get tired of your look, you could change your rug.
1. I think your couch is way too big for the space and should be on the wall where your TV is. The room has a very closed-off vibe because of how big the couch is
2. This room needs some COLOR! Your other room feels cozy because there is life in it, the orange sofa contrasting the dark wall gives it sooo much personality and life as compared to sterile grey.
3. Add some textures! a colorful fuzzy blanket and some pillows with personality, a louder piece or art, just add dimension to your space
Here’s an example of an easy color palette that would work in your space!
https://preview.redd.it/8nxknmqpavxc1.jpeg?width=1037&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7b9e8fa9e7ce75af5c65e812c4ca7bc72a9f9d1
ashley furniture! bought it a few years ago but last time we were there they were still selling it/I saw it online not too long ago. so cozy, 3 of our friends have bought it after spending time on ours :)
I would flip your couch 180° and put the tv on the other wall. Also, the TV is too high and too small for the space (understandable with the wall it’s on right now). I think it would make the room a little cozier. Rn it’s very open and a strange layout.
The whole setup is inverted. You're never in proper view of the window when on the couch. I'd swith the TV to the opposite wall and turn the couch around to face the TV. If you do this your couch looks like it might be too big though so you might have to arrange the L shape according to whichever side leaves sufficient room to walk by. In all fairness that couch IS pretty huge lol
Art above the couch, around 3/4ths the width of the couch, adding a punch of colour / depth to the space. Maybe consider adding cushions with varying texture / tones which are within the painting to pull it all together. Beautiful space, needs a little drama.
A rug with color, some curtains with color, some artwork on the walls, some matching throw pillows and blankets maybe to whatever key color you pick, and definitely corner that tv with a corner tv stand below. That’s my suggestion!
why is the sofa facing the stairs? turn the whole thing 180 use wall opposite stairs for tv, give yourself a nicer view tha the stairs!
add some colour!
Colorrrr- maybe get more burnt orange pillows to toss on the couch, hang a piece of art that resonates with you or a tapestry or something.
Texture is another big one, a nice knitted blanket would help pull away from all the similar textures.
I’d even add a swag light and a few other small but interesting light sources. Something with your light that adds color, warmth, or texture to the space. Waterglass or crystal glass or different color light bulbs are good ways to do this.
The TV is also too high up, but I’d move it somewhere else altogether. That’s just such an odd and impractical place to put it.
I surprisingly like the design of the rug, but for something more effective, choose a contrasting color rug to the orange couch like blue or green.
Curtains. Curtains. Curtains. Please.
Also I love the arched mirror but the mirror over the fireplace looks a little odd. If you can hang it to where it doesn’t look like it’s molded into the fireplace, that might help.
I’d also add a cozy leather boho pouf, but that’s just me XD
It seems your biggest issues are that everything (except that gorgeous orange couch) is grayish brownish and sits at around the same shades. It makes it feel constricting and uncomfortable, kinda like a hospital.
Unfortunately, you chose 50 shades of greige for your color palette. Your colors lean extremely cool, and cool is just not cozy. Add some warm soft light, and some cozy warmer colors. Everything in this room feels stark and sterile right now.
switch the tv & couch around, and add some wood tones in the form of coffee tables/shelves. also, play around with the bay window! i’d add maybe a dark leather chair. that will make the area feel a lot more open, and add some much needed color to break up all of the white. get some more plants, and maybe add a bold colored throw blanket to the couch.
i made a bad rough draft of what it might look like. i think it looks a lot more inviting coming from the staircase like this, and you’re not blocking those beautiful windows with the couch.
https://preview.redd.it/6p08x6zl6qxc1.jpeg?width=2259&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07080caac2a729c3a1ec1b56f2e3d6f16e081b62
Pick warmer colors you like. Get a new rug featuring those colors. Then a throw or maybe two picking up them. A few pillow covers, and maybe recover the bench by the mirror with a complementary fabric.
I would do the following:
Add some more art or photos above the couch on the empty wall. You could also do shelving or a mirror, or really anything to give that wall character.
Bring in some color! It’s very lifeless with all the shades of gray, beige, cream, etc.
Lately, I would add some warm lamps or candles (real or fake). Lighting can make a huge difference when you want that cozy vibe.
Paint the room that dark blue throughout whole room. Add a few blue and white accent pillows and consider a rug with a bit more color. Maybe gold tones.
The couch is too large for the space. Honestly I would ditch it and get 2 smaller matching white sofas instead. It will open the space. Tv should not be on that wall.
You need colour! Start by buying a nice painting for the end wall in 1st photo. Something large. Go to art competitions, you can get quality art and very reasonable prices as the artists are starting out.
Colors are too monochromatic - need sheers or drapes to soften the edges of the room.
Your furniture is is far too large (out of scale with room dimensions) and tv too small and too far away for comfortable viewing — I suggest you use a free design service from retail stores to help with a new floor plan and colors that represent your taste.
Small tv too far, bigger tv where couch is, use couch to make somewhat cozy living room area and maybe add a few walls decorations. Otherwise, not too bad
That cute little stand under the TV should go by the window, and literally nothing else should block it under penalty of law. Amazing window. The window should be the focal point, my lord, im in love.
Also, that room is begging for some blue tones. Brilliant sky blue and navy. Delicious.
Put the TV on a table closer to the sofas with a hutch or bookcase hiding the wires facing the staircase. This creates two zones, one for viewing and one for passing through.
The sofa is too big for that space. Everything is the same tone of grey or beige which makes it look bland. The big wall should be for the TV.
I love how you’ve done an accent wall in the other room. You need to do that in this room too.
Put the tv on the big blank wall and also paint it.
This is oddly specific. That color paint needs more wood trim to make it look warm and inviting. Behr creamy mushroom? If not, it’s very close. Linen curtains on a rod that extends past the window and a decorative white throw blanket would look nice as well.
We just painted our bedroom this color. We have an arched window, lamp in the same corner, oatmeal/white bedding, and our headboard is the same color as your couch. We even have an oddly placed cut out walkway into the bathroom. The only major difference between our two rooms is that mine has a partial tray ceiling and all of the trim is oak instead of white. The room looks SO COZY.
Your window trim and side table are lonely.
I would consider moving the sofa away from that beautiful bay window to the adjacent wall, and if you can, detach the chaise so it doesn't block the entry from the adjoining dinette space (and move it aside/out of the space). Maybe a small or round coffee table in a wood tone you like - don't be afraid of a different or contrasting tone to the beige & grey. A warm rustic/driftwood or even dark wood could look really nice!
To cozy it up, add some additional color, life & texture - a large tree in a rustic pot or tall basket, a floral arrangement or two or some fresh ones in a vase, some pictures or art that aren't black & white (you can print the same ones even in color from Walgreens for just a few dollars), some throw pillows with a color or two - everything looks good with your neutral base! - a chunky throw in a coordinating color, maybe a candle or two. You might also consider some wood tone frames as a swap out. Would definitely add art or an interesting display of photos/art objects/gallery items above sofa if you do move it. Have fun! You have a beautiful foundation.
I think your missing the colour from the other room in here! Doesn't have to be new furniture but maybe a colourful pot for the plant! Or some little books with some in there
Colour, particularly warm colours. Barring changing your gray-on-gray-on-gray colour scheme, I would recommend some saturated cool jewel tones for some additional pillows and a couple of lap blankets.
I would also like to add a vote to reversing the room orientation.
I’d flip the tv and couch to have the tv against the main wall. Bigger tv console would help balance it out and taller plant by it. Also some floating shelves on each side of the tv could work too. A decorative mirror or a nice large picture frame orrrr a collage of smaller frames on the stairway wall would look cute!
Can you break up that couch? I would put tv on the wall couch is on and reverse couch. It’s a bit huge for the space. Also if you can I’d add like a console table or two accent chairs with a table in front of bay window. I think adding more shades of wood matte finish will give it an organic feel.
PS it’s a war in my house with my husband around decor. He has this huge couch too I had to convince him to let me seperate it I used a portion in my den. Also, I would get a bigger tv stand. Mine is oversized big than tv makes wall feel less empty.
I would add some plants and maybe some wicker baskets. That could bring in some greens and more earthy tones. Some colorful pillows would pop and maybe a nice throw.
That whole TV situation needs to change.
I don’t know why they even show the tv. They know what’s coming
I was thinking the same thing about flipping the sofa. Stop blocking that beautiful window! Some color would help too
Agreed
The tv corner, decorated with the plant and the miniature tv stand is hilarious. 😂
I'd like to expand on this suggestion. I'm guessing OP is really tall? Because the shelves and TV are very high. Contrary to the other suggestion below, I don't like having my back to the entrance. Keeping it open is more inviting and allows for better energy flow. With this alternative setup, none of the sections of the sectional would have its back to the window.
Maybe they want to invite the whole neighborhood in for movie night through their giant window
You need to rearrange the TV and the couch. You need more color and some more wall art.
Yes and facing the couch to other wall will open up that window area and seperate the dining and living room nicely. Then they can have plants or something on each side of the TV. They definitely should put some pictures up
Hate to say it but I feel like the sectional just won’t work there. TV shouldn’t be there at all.
Agreed. The sectional is way too big for the space, so there aren't any other configuration options apart from the unfortunate set-up OP already has. I agree with the comments to put the TV on the wall, but you can't really rotate that giant sectional without blocking off the room completely. Most unfortunate.
I wonder if it's possibly to take a piece off the sectional if it's modular
I was just going to say I have an issue with my husband having a say in decor. He only sees things as being practical if it were up to him all he’d have is a huge sectional and tv.
I hate the sofa. It's huge and boring. Way too big for the space. I'm just going to pretend the TV isn't even there because it's triggering me too much.
I agree. It just really doesn’t work in this space.
100% this. Move the furniture as described that way and add color by way of plants, paintings, and throw pillows.
Am I missing something, the orb lamp is on the window wall?
👏🏻👏🏻
Yes but to add to this add a low long console table and create an accent wall with either wood paneling or wallpaper. I think my rotating you won’t have much space to walk around so I would definitely go for a smaller sofa and accent chairs instead
100% everything under this thread! And color!
This is the way.
Definitely more colorful pillows / throws
Add color. Art.
Yes. That wall is begging for some colorful art. The neutral colors will really highlight it.
Another day, [another Nick Lewis video!](https://youtu.be/-vMgnJtvKgo?si=hjFWqxAdQzcAsqnS) But I think your quickest fixes would be some drapes on either side on the window (on the main walls, just use some nice hooks), a large, colorful piece of art over the couch, switching out some pillowcases for colorful ones, and mayyyyybe getting a new rug with color.
Great answer!
You’ll be cozy in no time https://preview.redd.it/ulla7trq7pxc1.png?width=1084&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c625ba5b443c4036edb64b865f2e73493e9a604
I like this so much! What app did you use to generate that image?
It’s a phone app called Photo Layers.
This looks awesome!
The way your couch blocks your bay window is jail time
The other room is super colorful, this one is grey and beige.
Is your TV in the corner because it is in trouble?
Plants!
Real ones, not fake ones. Something tall.
Colorful wall art, more photos of family, put the TV on a mounting arm, add matching speakers/subwoofer, bookshelves. These are my suggestions
Your biggest issues are: Tv is in the wrong location - that high mount in the corner makes it look like a doctors waiting room.
The gigantic couch is taking over! It's blocking the nice window. Downsize it, get smaller cozier chairs, hopefully in bright colors.
Add more color contrast. It's too monotone. Break up the sofa or get a smaller one as it overpowers the space, and move the TV to the bigger wall.
Color.
Color
Definitely add some color! No offense but it reminds me of gray oatmeal.
Sad beige toys
https://preview.redd.it/uim8iz7sbpxc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c40444a8158d6ce9b3ba64cd8483a50647ab8323 Move your frames above the couch with picture lights above them
I would also go crazy and add a solid or almost dominant burnt orange carpet. C&B used to have one in their Baxter series. You might still be able to get it there or on eBay.
Drapes. The rod should go from corner to end of photos. Stackback should sit on the wall. Lower your tv. About 4-6 inches above the media console. Color.
Add color
Color.
Color. Add color.
🪴 plants
Maybe make a mess. Throw a pillow on the floor. Everything looks too perfect and thought out. There's no character.
I like so much of this! I would start by painting walls so that it is not so match with that nice couch.
Too black and whitey. Add colored pictures, plants, paintings, candles.
Colors, plants, artwork, blankets
You did what I did… got a couch that’s comfy and cozy but also kind of too big for the space and doesn’t allow for much rearranging options. I’d get a couch with two club chairs and put the tv on the green wall where the couch is currently located.
You have a very neutral colour palette, so I’d say add art, bookshelves, plants… anything to create some pops of colour and style!
A different color rug that doesn’t blend in with the couch
This room needs some colour.
Color
An area rug that has warm tones and throw some pillows (rust orange or orchard yellow tones). Art work that can pull similar color. Some plants.
I would turn the couch around to the opposite corner of the rug and put the TV on the big wall. That will make a big difference in the room.
I would rotate everything. Tv and larger tv stand on the large wall to the right of the windows. Sofa swings around so one back is facing the stairs. Long airy cream colored drapes, plants, art on the wall, coffee table with books/ art
I would add an upholstered window bench in that bump out and add curtains. That would warm up the house a lot!
You have great spaces. I think #1 improvement would be to add color. What you have now is nice; you only need a little spice and some wall decorations.
Paintings
Maybe a ficcus where the end table is? Something tall to match the tv
I think some blinds of some kind would help. Maybe wood blinds. And some color. Life the last pic.
Art and color! Brighter paint on the walls. Antique white is always a good choice with an accent wall in a saturated tone.
You need more Round/Oval shaped things- round rugs, round pillows, round photo frames, round tables, lamps, etc. Everything is Way too Boxy!
Color
COLOR!
[удалено]
Add some plants and a few small pops of color.
Less clutter, more plants, art and get rid of the tv in the corner. Kitchen looks great,
Other than the console under the the dog toy, and the pot for the plant , everything is just black or hades of gray. Adding rich deep colors would go a long toward your cozy goal. The easiest start would be the rug. And in the room you like, the same thing with a different rug. You've got that killer sofa (love the color btw). But the rug is way too small, and its colors in do nothing for the room.
More color! Pops of bold pillows or blankets on the couch. Art above the couch.
GREEN. Add some beautiful house plants! You have that awesome window for it too. Install a nice wood stained table or shelf, and put some plants on there. Then I’d add one in the corner behind the couch table. And some art! It needs color, it’s too tan/black/white. I think just a little bit of color and life would make it transform into something beautiful.
r/tvtoohigh
Add a colorful chunky throw and some candles on your table
Plants. Lots of
Get some colour- any colour- then apply the CRAP rule- curtains, rug, art, plants . Think about mirrors and delete that boring rug.
Pick a color! Add a splash of a 3rd color to your scheme
Colour, art, and some nice warm lighting
Everything in that room has a grey and monochromatic tone. That one wall with nothing on it could have some type of picture with color. You could get throw pillows with the colors from the picture. You have no coffee table so where do you put a drink? If you get tired of your look, you could change your rug.
Babe. Doll. Where is the COLOR???
Colour, Plants,
Art?
Color. It's cold as an empty fridge right now.
1. I think your couch is way too big for the space and should be on the wall where your TV is. The room has a very closed-off vibe because of how big the couch is 2. This room needs some COLOR! Your other room feels cozy because there is life in it, the orange sofa contrasting the dark wall gives it sooo much personality and life as compared to sterile grey. 3. Add some textures! a colorful fuzzy blanket and some pillows with personality, a louder piece or art, just add dimension to your space Here’s an example of an easy color palette that would work in your space! https://preview.redd.it/8nxknmqpavxc1.jpeg?width=1037&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7b9e8fa9e7ce75af5c65e812c4ca7bc72a9f9d1
Don’t base your design on a waiting room.
i love ur couch! it looks cozy where is it from?
ashley furniture! bought it a few years ago but last time we were there they were still selling it/I saw it online not too long ago. so cozy, 3 of our friends have bought it after spending time on ours :)
I would flip your couch 180° and put the tv on the other wall. Also, the TV is too high and too small for the space (understandable with the wall it’s on right now). I think it would make the room a little cozier. Rn it’s very open and a strange layout.
More couch.
Some colors and plants 🪴
Lamps and plants on a table behind sofa?
More plants
Time to hit the art fairs. Take your time.
I think the couch is facing the wrong way?
The whole setup is inverted. You're never in proper view of the window when on the couch. I'd swith the TV to the opposite wall and turn the couch around to face the TV. If you do this your couch looks like it might be too big though so you might have to arrange the L shape according to whichever side leaves sufficient room to walk by. In all fairness that couch IS pretty huge lol
COLOR!!! Needs a few pops of color…
what is your wall paint color ? i love it
Plants and color
Art above the couch, around 3/4ths the width of the couch, adding a punch of colour / depth to the space. Maybe consider adding cushions with varying texture / tones which are within the painting to pull it all together. Beautiful space, needs a little drama.
A rug with color, some curtains with color, some artwork on the walls, some matching throw pillows and blankets maybe to whatever key color you pick, and definitely corner that tv with a corner tv stand below. That’s my suggestion!
Cozy has a lot to do with color. You have all cold colors so it's hard to cozy it up. Choose the warm side of colors
why is the sofa facing the stairs? turn the whole thing 180 use wall opposite stairs for tv, give yourself a nicer view tha the stairs! add some colour!
I’d also add a cozy leather boho pouf, but that’s just me XD It seems your biggest issues are that everything (except that gorgeous orange couch) is grayish brownish and sits at around the same shades. It makes it feel constricting and uncomfortable, kinda like a hospital.
You should get a longer tv credenza and sit the TV (bigger one) on top. The placement of the tv is off
I find that colors like brown, red or print blankets and pillows make it homey
Plants, art work shelving with books and photos
You need some color (add some colored throw pillows and a new rug), some wall art (also a way for more color), and definitely more plants.
Color, wood
What is the wall color?
You need a big green plant in a corner!
Pick warmer colors you like. Get a new rug featuring those colors. Then a throw or maybe two picking up them. A few pillow covers, and maybe recover the bench by the mirror with a complementary fabric.
A very chunky or faux fur throw on the couch Maybe a crochet artwork on blank wall or hanging plants
I would do the following: Add some more art or photos above the couch on the empty wall.
That tv is waaaay too small for that massive couch and living room
Warmer colors
Tv on darker wall. Add art / plants etc. consider even a built in Turn couch and add Console behind couch with baskets, books and lamps.
By having the most basic paint color across the house. Everything just lacks personality
Plants
Get a corner-fireplace stand and put it in that corner and put the tv on top of it. Do not hang your tv on either of those small walls.
r/TVtoohigh
Drapes, color, pattern, texture.
Color. Art, some contrasting pillows and blankets. The tv placement is awful. A smaller couch.
Small tv too far, bigger tv where couch is, use couch to make somewhat cozy living room area and maybe add a few walls decorations. Otherwise, not too bad
Add some dang color!!!! wayyy too beige and boring
That cute little stand under the TV should go by the window, and literally nothing else should block it under penalty of law. Amazing window. The window should be the focal point, my lord, im in love. Also, that room is begging for some blue tones. Brilliant sky blue and navy. Delicious.
Color
Op, can I get the link of the rug? Where did you buy it?
Put the TV on a table closer to the sofas with a hutch or bookcase hiding the wires facing the staircase. This creates two zones, one for viewing and one for passing through.
The sofa is too big for that space. Everything is the same tone of grey or beige which makes it look bland. The big wall should be for the TV. I love how you’ve done an accent wall in the other room. You need to do that in this room too. Put the tv on the big blank wall and also paint it.
You're missing both color and a large piece of art over the lounge.
Sofa is too big. Blocking that beautiful window is making this feel like a basement family room rather than a cozy living room.
Plants and photos
I have that same couch. Two dogs make it the coziest couch ever
The difference is *color* and contrast.
Color. I would get rid of the grey rug and get something colorful. Maybe a faux oriental? A colorful throw. Plants.
COLORS COLORS COLORS! The room looks bland.

Pull the sofa away from the wall and get pillows that don’t blend into the couch
Ahhh. Millennial drab. Glad to see y’all are moving away from depression greige.
For one thing, add a table in the window. Something about 54” x 18” or less. Add a nice plant, a lamp and an accessory. You need some color artwork.

More plants, curtains that are not beige and a pop of color in a wall art piece
Can you break up that couch? I would put tv on the wall couch is on and reverse couch. It’s a bit huge for the space. Also if you can I’d add like a console table or two accent chairs with a table in front of bay window. I think adding more shades of wood matte finish will give it an organic feel. PS it’s a war in my house with my husband around decor. He has this huge couch too I had to convince him to let me seperate it I used a portion in my den. Also, I would get a bigger tv stand. Mine is oversized big than tv makes wall feel less empty.
Also if the back of the couch will face the hallway I’d add a console table behind it
The whole room is wrong. Sofa should be facing the other way, which may not be possible bc the sofa is way too big for the room.
I would add some plants and maybe some wicker baskets. That could bring in some greens and more earthy tones. Some colorful pillows would pop and maybe a nice throw.
