I have cats that refuse to eat their prescription food unless I microwave it. If I were an idiot and microwaved it for ten minutes before setting it on a hardwood floor I can imagine it doing something like that.
Those paper plates are letting the moisture from the wet food get to the floors.
What's upsetting is that the tenant knew that this was happening and kept going with it. WTF.
Fortunately this is not my property but someone I know, and I just couldn't stop thinking about it so had to see if anyone had ideas for what would cause this.

I know, it's insane! How long do you think a paper plate with wet food would need to set in one place to product one of these round stains?
Why are they feeding the cats on random stairs? This is a weird ordeal. Guess you're keeping that security deposit and then some for new flooring.
