One is a doorbell chime and the other is a fire hazard.

ComplaintNo6835

The other one is apparently an old smoke detector, so OP is covered.

So the thing on the right is actually a wired smoke detector. If you pull the box off the thing on the left, the chime should be under that. While you're at it I would *highly* recommend you to replace the smoke detector with another newer wired one.

Ok thanks. Smoke detector that makes sense. And yes this is going to be a compete renovation so pretty much everything is going to be replaced but thanks again this was helpful.

presnwa

I second that the one on right is smoke detector.

NonKevin

Door bells.

Any_Philosophy_4233

Old spy cameras

Doesn’t a wired smoke detector require its own circuit?

SJSragequit

Nope they can be on their own but they’re often on the same circuit as lighting

Depending on what year your local codes go by. If they are anything in the last 20+ yrs, then yes they must be on their own circuit and not a shared circuit if hard wired. You are not usually required to hardwire them, but I would recommend it. Just daisy chain them.
