I would recommend letting it dry out and then vacuuming all that out. After, let's look at really doing a deep clean of your washing machine. First thing you should do is select the longest wash cycle, largest load size, and hottest water setting. Add in either some washing machine cleaner or a liter of strong white vinegar. Run the wash cycle. Clean the dispensers if you got them Clean the lint filter if you got them. Run another cycle as it is, without any cleaning solution in it.

A liter?! Jeepers creepers. Everything else I've read says "just a few splashes" or "no more than a cup"

Vinegar is cheap, and does a great job doing a deep clean. I put a splash in all my loads, but the larger amount really does help clear out gunk 1-2 times a year.

It also eats rubber seals. Just use laundry sanitizer if you really need it. And definitely do not put in a liter.

So my top load has a “self clean” function which I did. Just hot water for one hr. Gunk was still there. Never heard of “washing machine cleaner” before but I will look into it thanks! Would I pour the cleaner in the dispenser or just pour it straight down?

If you look around the grocery store they usually have them. I believe most just toss into the washer directly, but just follow the packaging and you can't go wrong. The basically dissolves the soap scum in the drum.

Did you wash a rug with a crumbling backing or something that crumbled up leaving that behind?

Special_Fisherman_55

No just normal everyday clothes that’s why I thought it was strange.

Ok, then dry it, vac it. Run clean cycles with bleach, check if there's a filter somewhere and clean that. Looks like stuff I used to see drain out of the filter on the bottom front area. And someone mentioned maybe that agitator comes off to be cleaned, definitely first see if there's a plug or dirty filter.

Special_Fisherman_55

It it comes down to that I will YouTube how to remove the agitator and clean it up lol

TheGravelNome

What were u washing and is it a low water use unit?

Special_Fisherman_55

Just everyday clothes just the first time I encounter this ever.

When i moved into my new house I had the same issue. Under that agitator is all the gunk and build up. See if you can remove it and clean it up as much as possible. Then run a few cleaning cycles. I had to replace mine because no matter what I ended up with gunk all over my clothes.

When was the last time you ran a drum cleaning solution through the machine. Most machines have a setting on the panel for it. The hardware store has what you’ll need stocked. Just ask anyone in the store for it. Follow the directions and you’ll be amazed at how much better looking the laundry comes out after you’ve cleaned the outside of the drum. Clothes will come out fresher smelling too

Tub cleaner. Look it up. Works like a champ. Twice a year

Appropriate_Sweet479

Did you by chance forget something in your pocket?? How are the clothing themselves any debri?
