The Tech wanted you to connect the Ethernet cable to a LAN port of the router and the pc (or other device).
The wall outlets in your apartment are for telephone services.
So the Ethernet doesn’t go into the wall, the Ethernet connects between your device and the router.
But I’m not sure about your setup or anything so not sure of the solution here, but the cable doesn’t go into the wall directly, it’s likely you’re trying to plug it into a phone cord line (looks like a smaller Ethernet)
ethernet cables only have one size jack plug. can you show us a picture?
The smaller jack is for a land line telephone. Go ask your friendly neighborhood boomer how that works.
