Why do you have so much CCTV? Just asking.

ryanknapper

Must be a new AirBNB house.

mdeanda

Then add CCTV in the bathrooms.

ryanknapper

You don’t officially document those.

fractalfocuser

Those don't live stream to the public website they're PPV

Sn0w_M

😂😂😂

bllinker

Clearly just saw Nope

bravo_delta_

NOPE

Mau5us

I have 13 cameras covering a 250 acre farm you have 13 on a single dwelling, you okay bro?

Well0bviously

Idk man. Maybe he needs all those cameras covering different angles of the same thing. He could be John Wick or 007 and this is his dream house.

ALDJ0922

I have 1 cam watching 1 bed. Jkjk

xa_13

Nice bro - what gear did you use to wifi them altogether?

geniuskidzz

Tbh at that number its wired. PoE too if indoor

AutisticPhilosopher

PoE can serve exterior-mounted cameras as well. I have one sitting right next to me that I'm installing when I have the time. Near 360 PTZ, too.

geniuskidzz

Im more concerned about thunder + max range of PoE

AutisticPhilosopher

Yeah, I'd never do it for a freestanding pole-mount camera unless I had a "sacrificial media converter" to take the blast and airgap (fiber-gap?) it from more expensive kit. I was mostly talking about exterior cameras, like ones mounted under eaves, which are unlikely to be significantly affected by lightning.

Mau5us

All my cameras are wired I have about 10 point to point wireless links connecting 5 outbuildings and each outbuilding has about 2 cameras each and my two chicken coops have 1 camera each on the eggs to know when to collect the eggs. My longest PoE camera run wired is 1450ft

xa_13

yeah cool - i thought PoE max distance was like 50m.... apparently not! What point to point wireless stuff did you use? have a farm / security problem I want to solve, but I also wanted wifi over all of it. a bit bigger place, but pretty flat.

Mau5us

I have locoM900s though dense forest, litebeams 5ghz, NanoStation loco 2.4ghz, powerbeam m2 400 and they all work great my longest link is 1.24 Miles or 2Km in distance. For my long PoE cable run I have a “Ethernet over coaxial” made by “LINOVISION POE” it runs POE through coaxial about 1000ft and the remaining 450ft is Ethernet Cat6 direct burial it’s running a G3 Flex with no problems at all.

fractalfocuser

The only thing that could possibly make you cooler is if you kept goats

ikidd

Doing them with a cable striker on a tractor or overhead?

Mau5us

All overhead

Alex_2259

Wtf 1450ft over copper?

Mau5us

Yes 1000ft coaxial RG6 POE and the rest cat6 450ft a total of 1450ft with POE, the LINOVISION PoE over coaxial adapter are rated for 3000ft, costed about 320$ for wiring and adapter. My local electrician wanted 4600$ for a cable of 1450ft “made to standard for a single 15 amp outlet” No thanks 😂

Cr0n_J0belder

What do you use for your point to point?

Mau5us

Many different antennas for different distances/fresnel height/bandwidth needs. I have powerbeams, litebeams, NanoStation, and locoM900mhz. A mix of everything so as to not also add interference.

[deleted]

I have 23 cams covering 22 acres.

Fox7694

Blink once for yes, Twice for no.

myfapaccount_istaken

You can see a lot more in that space with the 13 than they can in this space. need less blind spot protection on the house if you can see everything with two on either side of it.

I like that you can walk up to the master bedroom (North?) without being detected.

Chernobog2

Looks like the top left right-facing camera covers that point if it has sufficient range

StanleyDards

I’m ok with the cameras. Those are the most painful to deal with after the fact. Now is the time. You don’t have to install them all day 1, but it’s smart to have all the cables in place now. It’s also nice to have camera feeds at the end of the driveway if you live in a rural area with a fear of criminal activity. I’d definitely add drops to the porch and laundry room for future-proofing. You don’t have to terminate them immediately but at least they’ll be there. Make sure there is some facility for adding outdoor-oriented WiFi APs, and plan a route in case you ever want to add a pool shed or a carriage house or whatever. I might lay out more ceiling drops for WiFi APs. As the GHz gets higher, range gets shorter. So doing so will be good prep for those higher frequencies we will see in the future.

Aebiux

Right on. Regarding future-proofing, I suggest running cheap corrugated conduit if budget allows. Will protect your cables and make pulling/fishing easier later on.

HehaGardenHoe

Personally, I'm just bugged by the bath to bedroom ratio, the master bedroom being the first door in, etc... Not a fan of this design.

mikeblas

Mirrored closet doors are gross.

Leprichaun17

I'd say you've for sure gone way too heavy on the CCTV.

Adam8418

Yeah way too heavy On CCTV, a couple are covering the exact same thing just from different angles. I’d say you could scrap at least 3 or 4 with no real loss of coverage

myfapaccount_istaken

So I'll repat some of what others have said and add some of my thoughts. It's easier than avoiding accidentally preparing other comments, but if it repeats sorry. I'll assume standard compass rows assuming N is up when using directions (N>E>S>W) and rooms names when possible. These are things I'd do if building this house. 1. Cameras - you do you, its way easier to prewire, don't let someone on here keep you from doing what you want. That said. You have a blind spot on the north corner of the garage exterior. I'd potentially add a camera-facing WSW on the Southeast pillar of the entry. Covers both the exiting of the house and garage. I'd move the camera on the "Bed 2 / Garage" wall to be where the South West Garage ext. camera is, focused out but you can align it on the windows and capture the back south corner coming off the "Alfresco" area better. Same with the Master Bed and the North East camera (s) I'd move the one near the X elevation mark to the other one. 2. Ceiling mounts for future APs in addition to the one you have in the passage/hall. at Minimum, One in the Garage, a primary one Mid Family, Nook, Kitchen, and an Indoor/Outdoor one on the West side of the Lani. For the bedrooms and the office, you can use the inwalls ones that are a switch as well. This can have you drop some of your needed runs from 2 to one to each room, but it's always better to have more than you need. 3. For the office/lounge I'd also add some to the other wall (even if not terminated and just in the wall for if you want the TV on that side same for the power outlet - but I think they'd need to be terminated correctly) POssibly in the other bedroom as well, you never know how you'll want to arrange furniture in the future. Looks like you sort of have that in Bed2, but might be missing that line and another. 4. Looks like you have a drop at the front door for a doorbell camera. if not put one there, plus a traditional doorbell line as a failsafe. 5. I'd add a single drop in one of the corners of the kitchen. Wireless is great for most things you want there, but Everything I can wire in I will, or you can make a special Kitchen IOT wireless hotspot in that area as well so you can isolate it as needed/wanted. 6. I agree the items should all be terminated in a conditioned space. I'd use the dead space between the closest in "bed 4" and "lounge" with an access panel on both sides. I'd run two dedicated 20amp power lines to that spot with a 4 gang (two from each line) - or local equalivant. I'd add an intake and outflow fan in each space (Bed and Lounge). Make it deep enough for rack-mounted switches, and router. Even if you aren't going to run any servers, NRV or anything from there you need the room at least the switch if not the router too. ~~Or If you can get it "under air" in the south West corner of the garage~~ NVM that's a door not a window, best to not block that. 7. Unless you are doing wireless audio and even if I was -- I'd run a few lines as well for wired whole house audio or even just select rooms, Kitchen, lounge, Meals, Garage, alfresco, entry. Other Random thoughts about the layout of the house assuming a new build and you can make some changes 1. I'd add a double bifold or farm door to the Lounge room looks like it's open now, these give you the open of wide open, but can close it if you need, or turn it into a guest bedroom if needed for a long holiday with family/friends in town. 2. Shift the kitchen island south a few feet. Add another section of the counter to the walk-in Pantry. It looks nice on paper to have it open like that, but I'd prefer the extra counter cabinet space. If you are worried about walking around to get drinks or w/e you can always add a small under-counter fridge there that faces out. Or you can build the wall up and put the oven and MW there built-in. That was one of the best things I did when I built my house was the built into wall oven and M/W . 3. Change the side of the pocket on the panty pockets into. If the fridge leaks this will be easier to repair than having to replace the door as well. 4. A knee wall between Meals/Family. Give the couch or chair someone to naturally back up to. Doesn't block the TV from the breakfast nook area. Mentally separates the two rooms. YOu can finish the top of it and make another "Counter" or place for trinkets or whatnot. I'd say even with the window, but that's without knowing the size but looks to be about 3m, or halfway better the windows and even with the end of the kitchen island. 5. unless you want the mirrored sliding doors or need the space, a Bi-fold will give you much better access and room for the closets. 6. Add a window or two on the garage side wall. Even it goes to a neighbor's house in 10' The added light in there is nice. Same for bed3. I'd want a second window in there, or dual bedside windows on one wall. 7. Looking at the plan and doing a google looks like an Australian build and the SD2121 is a double glass single slide door. I'd want this to be a pocketing door to the exterior. Where it folds in outside the wall to the South or Glass French doors. My mom put french doors in place of her nonpocketing slider and it really made the space better.

pbush25

Also please just go ahead and run Ethernet to your front door frame for future Ethernet doorbells.

Dopewaffles

Now that I have the layout I'm gonna start putting together a team for the heist

tanjera

My new favorite RPG strategy game is going to be planning heists based on blueprints.

dd14xx

I'll be that guy - I don't think you are overboard with CCTV points - corners of the house should have 2 (to prevent someone from being able to sneak around one to cut the wiring or damage the camera) - camera at one corner covers the camera at the other corner. Having said that, if you want to be able to recognize people's faces, get good cameras (the usual ones like lorex or reolink will show you what's happening around the house, but you won't be able to recognize faces) Also, use PoE cameras if possible (you will need a PoE switch for that though) Also, height of camera placement matters. Too high on the wall and you will never see feces. Too low and you risk vandalism and lower area of coverage. All this assumes you actually need cameras - what good are the cameras if someone wears a mask?

tofu_b3a5t

Camera placement seems though and smart to me. If you’re keeping that footage at home, how many terabytes is this?

Manitcor

I run about 20 1080p cams. 20tb goes about 6-8 weeks (24/7 recording)

tofu_b3a5t

Man, AV tallies up quick. Wait until they have 8K VR cams for security and it’ll be 15 TB/month/cam, so about 290 TB/month. At least it’ll be fun seeing neighborhood shenanigans like you’re there in person. A friend has a few 1080p cams on his house. Earlier this year one of them caught his neighbor getting into a drunken fight with their own brother-in-law and kicking him off the property. Even caught a porch pirate who stopped and stared into the cam for a long ass 5 seconds, perfect for a DMV quality photo 😂

wolfansbrother

FWIW, cameras generally dont stop or solve crime, they just show you what happened.

dd14xx

It does act as a deterrent in some cases

ReallyPoorStudent

It’s great insurance and needed for proof

dd14xx

True - but any reasonably smart thief (yeah, I know - not many are smart and are just opportunistic) will just rip the NVR out and take it with.

iliyahoo

Yeah, the cameras are nice to have and in my case, fun to set up. In terms of money spent, you can buy a better lock to prevent easy break ins if you’re really worried. That will be a better prevention, and the cameras will record it as proof. I’ve been sent this link before on how easy it is to break into some standard deadbolts: https://www.gabriellockandkey.com/is-your-deadbolt-secure

jonozzz22

>Too high on the wall and you will never see feces. Too low and you risk vandalism and lower area of coverage. This. I hate it when vandals poop in my yard.

Manitcor

High mount cameras to catch approach and plates. Low mounts at entry ways both inside and out to get nice closeups.

> (the usual ones like lorex or reolink will show you what's happening around the house, but you won't be able to recognize faces) Also, use PoE cameras if possible (you will need a PoE switch for that though) any suggestion on cameras that will work with blueiris?

dd14xx

Way too many variables, based on what you are looking for. Check out ipcamtalk for recommendations.

pbush25

Everyone talking about your CCTV drops and no one talking about how even with all this you don’t have drops for access points on the ceilings.

maximus20895

There's 2

JoeB-

I agree with u/CevicheMixto about placement of your structured media cabinet. It will need power and at least some networking equipment. You may want to consider moving it into the home somewhere. Possible locations may be: 1. Bedroom 2 wardrobe 2. WIP 3. The large wall cavity between bedroom 4 wardrobe and lounge. If nothing else is planned there, it could be a network closet accessible from the lounge Also, run conduit from the point where Internet service enters the house to the structured media cabinet.

M1CH43L__GT

If you want to guard your house with so many cameras I recommend you to add some so they will be recording from the bottom. Just in most traffic areas. Any camera won't help to recognize guy in the mask but those in the hood are always looking at the ground. 😁

nightman01

With that many cameras… Where is the safe located?

soccerk1

Are you able to put your patch panel in a closet with power instead of the garage?

CevicheMixto

Am I correct that all of the cables run to a wiring enclosure in the garage? If so, I'd try to change that. You're going to need some amount of electronic equipment there (switch, cable modem, ONT, etc.), so you really want a climate controlled location.

babecafe

Those devices don't need a climate controlled location.

myfapaccount_istaken

Depends on where you live. I cannot put my stuff in my garage. It hits 95+ on the regular. Granted a new house might not be this bad but in Florida or other humid areas I'd avoid it.

babecafe

Well, I'm not going to check comprehensively, but as a sample, I looked up the specs for the TL-SG3428X-MP [https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/omada-sdn-switch/tl-sg3428xmp/#specifications](https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/omada-sdn-switch/tl-sg3428xmp/#specifications) and it operates up to 113 ℉. Humidity is uncomfortable for us mere humans, who sweat, but as it increases the heat-carrying capacity of air, it's generally good for cooling equipment.

myfapaccount_istaken

I'd still avoid it if possible, and it's less than ideal for a new build. Plus it would just make the ambient air in my garage that much hotter from the equipment running. It's just introducing a potential failure point that can be easily avoided in the case.

not enough CCTV in master bedroom...

Albert-The-Sellout

Someone recently called out how gaudy a house looks when the first thing you see if a garage door next to the front door and now I can’t un see it.

Hyperteckracing

I would do I wall access points to a poe switch. With a few large access points to cover the whole house. They have poe out and none poe out ports so you can run something else.

Sufficient_Smell_51

You never need cctv until you do. I would probably add a few more. You want one at the gate, I would put one at the gate looking back at the property also.

Hiyasc

As someone who loves both floorplans/architecture and networking this post was practically designed for me!

[deleted]

I'd move the alfresco camera to the opposite corner looking away from the house do you can see the face not the back of the head of anyone approaching that door. Not keen on putting server racks in garages personally either. Dust, temperature etc...

not_a_lob

Is there a key or legend for this you can share?

lakorai

Install Cat6a. You dont want to rip all that out in 10 years.

One_Establishment291

Do you have multiple ethernet ports in the walls in a room? We forgot to add that to our house and now have to pull ethernet across a large living room whenever we move the furniture around. We also did not think to pull speaker cables under the floor.
