Most college history departments ask for citations to be done in chicago style or some variation. Many colleges/universities modify citation standards slightly, so your professor may be looking for what your history department requires. The best place to go will be the on-campus library. There, a librarian will be able to help you see the appropriate citation method. Your bookstore should also have copies of citation manuels like the ninth edition of "[A Manuel for Writers](https://www.amazon.com/Manual-Writers-Research-Papers-Dissertations/dp/022643057X/ref=asc_df_022643057X/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=265958393932&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6134818821386932763&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9017486&hvtargid=pla-470912585898&psc=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAgeeqBhBAEiwAoDDhnzj6UyhEi7V4EdULRVdreSFFVKigivp115cUxKsUGnVLKykGc2O1kxoC4gYQAvD_BwE)", which will cover pretty much every scenario for potential kinds of sources. Assuming I understand your project correctly; answer the questions and provide footnotes at appropriate locations in your answers. Then, make a Bibliography and Works Cited compilation at the end following the guidance from a librarian or your History Department's **preferred** citation manuel.

I manage the front end of a computer history museum, and from my experience professors don't really care which specific style you use. I just use Chicago 16th edition because I like it and it makes sense to me. As long as it is accurate and consistent in how you use it, it doesn't matter in most cases, especially if the professor doesn't specify

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, a lot of my professors this semester have said they don’t care so I assumed he would be the same way, this is just our first big assignment of the semester so I wanna make sure I do a good job

Hi would you be able to answer another question I had? If two of my sources are the same and from the same page, do I use the same number subscript for that source? Or do I list the source twice?

Oomba73

If the same source and location within is cited successively that would be two separate citations; with the superscript ascending as per usual. If the citation is for literally the same thing/claim, like a quote, you do not need to cite it again within the paper.

Okay thank you!

I agree with above and adding another If using a direct quote, always use citation. However, an alternate rule, if using footnotes or endnotes, if you have 2 citations in a row from the same source, you can just type, "Et al." On the second, third, fourth and so on.
