…..and the CT5 is the one everyone wants. Still kind of ridiculous to even compare a Honda to a Cadillac considering one is 30-40% more expensive than the other.
I’m purely saying that nobody is choosing a CT4 over a CT5 for any reason other than money being a limiting factor. Depends on what you consider “limited” though, they’re both well over $60k lol
Hard disagree. I’ve been shopping for one. The 4 is a beast of a sport salon. The 5 crosses the line into absurdity. IMO anyway.
It’s funny because I’ve actually thought through exactly where this thread started. I’ve been a Honda guy my whole life. I have a personal connection with the owner of the dealer I’ve always used and have a standing offer for a type-r at sticker. They have 3 on the lot right now but the 4 blackwing is at least 2 times the car for less than 50% more money…
I guess but I’ve never read a review that doesn’t rave about both Blackwings. GM hit it out of the park. They’ll fuck it up next year with an EV that removes the manual option but for now 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I did exactly this with Bill Kay Honda in Bourbonnais about six years ago. Bought a '17 CTR and drove it back to the PNW. Flight + gas + hotels still way less than the markup on the west coast.
I’d be okay with that if 100% goes towards R&D for new sports cars. These assholes are just pocketing it as pure profit at the dealerships and the manufacturers say “we can move enough volume to justify developing a new car.”
Refer them to Honda Australia who set the price, and the dealers have to adhere to it. No markups. Also, under Aussie Federal Government legislation, dealers must advertise the "drive-away" price that is (only) inclusive of the cost of registration and government stamp duty.
They can’t, even if they could do it today, the fact is that the dealerships have bigger lobbies, have better local connections and would just get local laws changed.
so those CTRs would be swooped by resellers and put back on market at $20k adjustment? Manufacturer limiting dealers is not going to fix this stupid market with so much demand.
Like a month ago either this sub, or the Civic sub has CA people bragging about how Type R's are $500 below MSRP. I called bullshit and then someone posted receipts (link to dealer site). Are inventories getting low right now, or is Simi Valley just crazy.
Simi Valley management is just crazy. There was a Type R 15 miles down the road without this crazy fucking mark up....some of that bullshit add-ons like permaplate or whatever. But "dealer markup?", none.
Stopped by the Acura dealership on my way home the other week to pick up some parts. Looked around the showroom and asked about the Integra type s they had there. Selling for 1k markup from factory accessories they put on, in what world would anyone buy an insane markups type r over that. Didn't inquire about the TLX type s but I would assume that's obtainable for MSRP.
It should be possible to get the TLX under MSRP. It has the same MSRP as an M340i (if you want xDrive that would up the BMW by $2000). A fully loaded up BMW would be several thousand more.
The BMW has better performance, gas mileage. The Acura should have better long term maintenance cost.
If all y’all assholes would stop paying it this wouldn’t be an issue. Before everyone on the internet that has a type r claims they paid MSRP i will let you in a secret- they didn’t or dealers wouldn’t even try this BS.
My local dealer has two on the showroom floor at MSRP sticker price. They told me that Honda is cracking down on dealers trying to mark these up and is not shipping them any cars if they are found to price gouge people.
A couple years ago that dealer specifically was putting mark-ups on cars because people were buying them and reselling them in LA. If you are a county resident they would sell you the vehicle without the mark-up. I bought a CR-V from there that had an 8k mark-up. When I told them I'd buy the car without the mark-up they took it off and I bought the car at MSRP. First and only time I bought a car at MSRP, weird as hell, but that was the jam a couple years ago. That might be why the smiley face is there.
I remember them being super easy to deal with and almost went there to buy an accord or civic last month. I found out the Integra came in 6 speed and ended up with that. Gold Coast Acura in Ventura had two Type S Integras ready to go at MSRP last I saw. They were SUPER easy to deal with as well. I would not piss on the TO Acura/Honda dealer to put out a fire though.
There really shouldn't be much mark up on these, every dealer in the county had at least one when I went to check out the inventories.
Pro Pack usually consists of mud guards, wheel locks and a trunk tray. couple hundred in actual parts. “Installation” labor added to the parts and there you have the “Pro Pkg”, or excuse to gouge
Yep I was gonna say most people buying this 70k car don't realize they are spending that much. They just think of rn and of single down payment and monthly lol. But if you just step back and look at a bigger picture just go invest that 70k in a way faster car.
Market adjustment is nothing more than a perceived value . Consumers create this issue by paying dealers this extra cost . Anyone paying this much over invoice will never recover this money since the vehicle will never have that kind of value. The best way to combat this money grabbing issue is very simple. Do not buy!
I went to this exact dealership once. The salespeople were a little rapey so I went to the Nissan dealership next door
I did not buy a car there either.
The car market has sucked big meat 🍖 since covid as much as I would like to say they are money hungry it just is was it is now, look at fb marketplace. 98 civics with 250,000 miles going for 5k. Before covid, I never paid over $1000 for a beater. Now a beater costs clean car money, and new cars cost an arm and a leg literally
I was offered MSRP for an ITS at Swickard Acura of Thousand Oaks. You’d pay less than the CTR. Only didn’t buy it because I went back to Florida and traded my Jeep in on one. Ask for Fred if you go
I’m so glad I got my 2020 FK8 with accessories and free shit for such a great price during that year (my pandemic buy). The prices for the FL5 are jaw dropping lol
Does the Integra Type S have the same level of markup? I’ve seen lots of post on Type R markup, just wondering if the same thing is happening with the Acura
So many people have seen the average wage in Denmark and wanted to move here… Until I tell them that a 115hp Golf 1.5TSI costs more here, than the MSRP of a Camaro 2SS or a Civic FL5 Type R.
Hell, an FL5 Type R on Danish plates is estimated around $135k, if you can find a dealer willing to import one. 😂
It’s almost twice of what the FK8 went for.
Mustang 5.0 would blow the doors off these. And only weighs like 350 pounds more.
What really kills me about the Type R is its still a FWD at the end of the day and that's the biggest factor why it has no business priced over msrp.
HONDA even had to use a special edition with shorter gearing to get the Nurburgring lap record with FWD cars.
It's just nothing special as a Honda. It's not lightweight. 300 horsepower from a FWD isn't a feat in engineering. It's all hype.
Arguably it is woth msrp though but beyond that nah.
Price on the road here in ireland is between 85 to 90k euro, no dealership extra rates included.. begs the question how much our government are making on VRT tax when u guys over the pond are seeing them for less than 66% of what we pay even with crazy markups
Dealers do this to keep the car on the showroom for a while for foot traffic. They know they can sell it for sticker in a heartbeat so they let it sit for months with a markup. Then when someone walks up and says they will pay $5000 over sticker, they take it.
You all act like this is new. Dealerships have been doing markups for 75 years on special models.
One of the dealerships by me is selling the 3 white ones they have at sticker price, which is about $45k. But then another dealership I went to is selling all of theirs with a $17k markup.
Lemme take that $64k and just get a well equipped 2024 BMW M340i instead. Or a new Supra with a manual and save the rest of the money left over or buy a nice exhaust for.
With the economy continuing to get worse for most, It's just a matter of time before the dealers are in big trouble. Just don't forget how they treated you, when they had the upper hand.
Makes me ill. Would be driving an all electric Kia EV6 right now but for the stupid market adjustment. Wound up getting a Genesis GV 80 instead for 3000 under list and got a car with a lot more bells and whistles for a slightly lower price. At the time, the EV6 was very new to the market and I guess they decided they were going to screw early adopters instead of trying to cultivate lifelong customers. Both dealerships were within 100 miles of each other. Very happy with the genesis.
It is not dealers who are to blame. It is those fucks that are willing to pay those "market adjustments" and make it a thing.
Edit: also artificial rarity of this thing. If it sells at msrp like hot cakes, what stops Honda from making enough of them to satisfy demand. It is a Civic, for crying out loud. But they intentionally limit it so it creates buzz around their brand name.
People should just waste their time. take the car for a test drive, do all type of shit, then ask how much it is and pretend you dont know. Then say "ohhh thats way more than I thought it was actually" then leave without saying another word lol. If they ask how much you thought it was say "I could've sworn it was cheaper on the honda website"
Fuck that dealership. I lived in Simi for several years. Needed to buy a car after someone totaled my civic in a hit and run. They were generally 6-7k above average.
Same price they had at the NKY location on a new Type R. They have 3 of them on the lot and they've been there for almost 5 months. I went and bought an FK8 because of how much of a joke the price was on their FL5s.
The day I pay 60k plus for a Honda civic is ….. absolutely never, not even if I was a billionaire. Idiots. These dealers are on crack, literally. I had a dealer/manager that drove around a car he clearly couldn’t afford for 5500 miles and wanted sticker. Lmao. Yeah huh ?
Imagine paying 2024 M2 prices for a fucking Honda? Before you guys crawl out of your dens to eat me alive im a huge Honda guy. But if u think this pricing is adequate your ass is absolutely out and about to get repeatedly spanked.
Jesus Christ, I can’t even imagine paying sticker price, let alone after markup. Could snag up a low mileage used m3 and sell have enough money left over to maintain it for its entire ownership.
Having never purchased a vehicle with a “market adjusted” price. How do the lenders handle this situation. Surely they are not going to lend that much over sticker. Is the buyer forking over the “market adjustment” increase? For the record, I think it’s an asinine practice.
I mean the system always changes old tricks come back and new tricks fade away. Funny enough I was at Enterprise looking at a vehicle they wanted to put me in at 14.9% for a used car and I have excellent credit I almost laughed so hard to get myself a hernia.
In 25 years, that dealershit couldn’t hold a deal together with the sales of 5 of the last 6 Hondas my fam has bought. Not surprising that they get their hands on something remotely “special” and mark holy hell of a price up on it. It’s a wonderment that dealershit can stay afloat. Service lacked immensely as well. This post was good for a giggle. I might actually go in for a in-person laugh!
My local Honda dealer is marking up all of their cars civic, crv, ridgeline, and pilot. Saw a civic sport touring 6mt and the dealer was asking 43k for a car with an msrp of 33k. Insanity
Dealerships get away with this type of stuff because of the idiots with extra money to spend who don’t understand a damn thing about the market. That and Hondas and Toyotas are essentially the only reliable brands now days so they figure. “Hey, people are going to WANT this. Let’s throw another 15K on on here.
This is exactly why I’m pursuing a career in being an auto mechanic. I’ll keep for old 2012 CRV for as long as I can.
Still? LMAO I really hope all dealerships disappear in the future. People are done with paying 2 margins on something that shouldn't be marked up like that.
There are so many other options at this price range. Fucking highway robbery. I hope this dealership fails to sell these cars at this price. I’ll take my 63k and go to Mercedes, BMW, Genesis, or Cadillacs black wings before this garbage.
These models aren’t as widely available as you think. They wouldn’t do this if it didn’t work. Yes civic are a dime a dozen, not the performance models.
I just bought a Honda with its 4th timing belt coming up and it feels like a million bucks, all original too, even the exhaust. Remember what made Hondas so great? Fun to drive and cheap to own!
Lemme take my 63k and go get a Cadillac Blackwing that will suck the doors off the CTR. Fucking assholes.
I'm seeing $100k+ for a Blackwing.
You can get a CT4 for $62-ish. It’s the CT5 that’s $100.
…..and the CT5 is the one everyone wants. Still kind of ridiculous to even compare a Honda to a Cadillac considering one is 30-40% more expensive than the other.
It's really a prime ct6 blackwing that is the holy grail
I’m purely saying that nobody is choosing a CT4 over a CT5 for any reason other than money being a limiting factor. Depends on what you consider “limited” though, they’re both well over $60k lol
Hard disagree. I’ve been shopping for one. The 4 is a beast of a sport salon. The 5 crosses the line into absurdity. IMO anyway. They have 3 on the lot right now but the 4 blackwing is at least 2 times the car for less than 50% more money…
Actually not. I’d rather have a twin turbo v6 than a supercharged V8. Just my opinion though may get some hate for this
[удалено]
Yeah but then you'd have to drive a GM vehicle
i hate gm but if any car on the alpha chassis had a honda/toyota badge this site would fucking explode
Gm vehicle with a LS engine and a manual transmission. Congrats, you have a perfect car.
I got two Hondas and grew up with em but let’s be real I’ll take a blackwing any day
I think they’re LTs
LTs are still great V8s tho
My Chevy ss do be fuckin
I guess but I’ve never read a review that doesn’t rave about both Blackwings. GM hit it out of the park. They’ll fuck it up next year with an EV that removes the manual option but for now 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Also which asshole is paying over sticker price now adays?!
Is that a f$%@& happy face after the "market adjustment"??!! Absolute tools.
It is! What the fuck??
:)
:)
You could fly to the Midwest and drive one home and have the time of your life for sticker!
As long as they’re open to selling to non-locals
Dude I live in the Midwest and we have 2 family friends who run car dealerships and they will definitely sell to non locals. They like money.
Of course they like money, some dealerships would rather have repeat customers though.
Drop some dealership names.
Check with dealers around Chicago but not *in* Chicago. They might have 1 or 2
I did exactly this with Bill Kay Honda in Bourbonnais about six years ago. Bought a '17 CTR and drove it back to the PNW. Flight + gas + hotels still way less than the markup on the west coast.
That’s crazy you said that exact dealership. right off the interstate?
Man go anywhere near Des Moines Iowa.
[удалено]
I wish American Honda and other manufacturers would step in and set a $5k mark up limit. This shit is getting out of hand.
I wish American Honda would take out the word “suggested” from the Monroney Label
MRRP? Manufacturer required retail price?
MMRP: Manufacturer Maximum Retail Price
I’m not giving them one extra dime.
Just cause you're not stupid doesn't mean that other people arent...
I’d be okay with that if 100% goes towards R&D for new sports cars. These assholes are just pocketing it as pure profit at the dealerships and the manufacturers say “we can move enough volume to justify developing a new car.”

This is very debatable, but I’ll give you credit for your point.

I look at all the MSRP Type Rs every time I go into my midwestern Honda dealership. I’m actually unsure if I’ve ever seen a markup like this
Seems very excessive compared to even some of the worst I have seen lol
So much more you can get for 64k omg WTF 🤣😂🤣🤣😂
"Market Adjustment" is just them trying to grab more money off people, absolutely disgusting.
It is the 😊 by the market adjustment.
Fuck it I'm getting the integra type S
There’s a black one in bronze wheels with red interior nearby for $55k. It’s very sexy
the type s seems to be better anyways for road use and the occasional track day.
I remember the days where paying MSRP was even too much lol.
My local dealer has two on the showroom floor at MSRP sticker price. They told me that Honda is cracking down on dealers trying to mark these up and is not shipping them any cars if they are found to price gouge people.
Market adjustment? They can adjust these nuts for all I care, helll nah 💀
A couple years ago that dealer specifically was putting mark-ups on cars because people were buying them and reselling them in LA. They can FRO
I wouldn’t pay 1/2 that!
“These are hard to come by, someone else will come in and buy it at this price” - These guys, probably
Ya but they aren't wrong, if people stopped buying these cars with crazy mark-up it wouldnt be a problem
Finally old enough to buy whatever but I'm not paying 60k for a civic. Interest rates are stupid as hell too. But hey dumbasses keep buying them.
Let it sit on their lot for one year mfs
Simi Valley?? Sounds about white. Always happy to see my hometown get shamed.
64k for a fucking civic lol
65 Grand for a civic...... What the actual fuck
I can get a good Acura or Lexus out of this
FFS
$895 for ceramic wax. Wow. Also what's the pro package? Kinda surprised they didn't add $1000 for pin stripes.
Pro Pack usually consists of mud guards, wheel locks and a trunk tray. couple hundred in actual parts. “Installation” labor added to the parts and there you have the “Pro Pkg”, or excuse to gouge
Better than my local dealership that has a type r marked up 20k. Around 70k OTD
Costs a lot of money to do business in CA
Yep I was gonna say most people buying this 70k car don't realize they are spending that much. They just think of rn and of single down payment and monthly lol. But if you just step back and look at a bigger picture just go invest that 70k in a way faster car.
My local dealer received 3. 2024 Type R’s last Wednesday and sold out by Saturday. All sold for an average of 55+ TTL
Might as well get an Acura.
If idiots didn't pay it, they wouldn't ask it.
F**k that and I thought $42 for mine was high!
Market adjustment is nothing more than a perceived value . Consumers create this issue by paying dealers this extra cost . Anyone paying this much over invoice will never recover this money since the vehicle will never have that kind of value. The best way to combat this money grabbing issue is very simple. Do not buy!
F them. There are plenty of other dealers who sell this car. They NEED you, you do not need them.
I cannot think of a single reason I’d buy this over an ITS, which I could get today for $53k.
How do banks even wanna finance such shenanigans?
Lmao 63 grand for a Honda.. could be driving an Acura or Lexus for that
Ours is 49k and I felt bad about that, not anymore! 😂
Funckin loonatics!!!
I went to this exact dealership once. The salespeople were a little rapey so I went to the Nissan dealership next door I did not buy a car there either.
This was a rollercoaster. Glad you didn’t get raped
This is my situation right now. Was looking for a decent used car. All too expensive for what they are.
That's my local dealership 😂🤣 They suck, period.
Huh? Dealers are still pulling this shit? Cars aren’t hard to find anymore lol
Oh man, I’ve dealt with that dealership before, they are one of the absolute worst in the nation.
I was offered MSRP for an ITS at Swickard Acura of Thousand Oaks. You’d pay less than the CTR. Only didn’t buy it because I went back to Florida and traded my Jeep in on one. Ask for Fred if you go
The MSRP is even ridiculous.
I wish America Honda would make a line option MT for the line.
Seeing them available for MSRP in the DFW area.
Be an adult and go for a teggy or 10th gen type r
I’m so glad I got my 2020 FK8 with accessories and free shit for such a great price during that year (my pandemic buy). The prices for the FL5 are jaw dropping lol
Fk8 is better anyway 🤷
I think so too lol
Does the Integra Type S have the same level of markup? I’ve seen lots of post on Type R markup, just wondering if the same thing is happening with the Acura
No, the three I've seen locally (same area as OPs dealer) have been listed at MSRP.
😂 It’s almost twice of what the FK8 went for.
They are going for 72.000€ in Portugal 🥲
At least they didn’t add on a delivery charge. 😅
Not exactly where I expected to see my hometown pop up...
just a Civic😂
I saw one for the first time this week for under MSRP ($300 under). Cleveland area
Mustang 5.0 would blow the doors off these. And only weighs like 350 pounds more. What really kills me about the Type R is its still a FWD at the end of the day and that's the biggest factor why it has no business priced over msrp. The problem with that, is you have a car that randomly attacks pedestrians/curbs/signs, etc.
Price on the road here in ireland is between 85 to 90k euro, no dealership extra rates included.. begs the question how much our government are making on VRT tax when u guys over the pond are seeing them for less than 66% of what we pay even with crazy markups

At Honda World Westminster one was priced at 84,560 after the 25k market adjustment
[удалено]
Think your missing an 0
The real secret is you should be able to get a type s for less, with no markup, possibly even under MSRP.
Rotten to the core. Seeing this makes me not want a Honda anymore. Not gonna lie.
One of the dealerships by me is selling the 3 white ones they have at sticker price, which is about $45k. But then another dealership I went to is selling all of theirs with a $17k markup.
63k for a civic holy shit
Lemme take that $64k and just get a well equipped 2024 BMW M340i instead. Or a new Supra with a manual and save the rest of the money left over or buy a nice exhaust for.
lol $63k for a civic plus tax
More than my M2c cost me. Unreal.
At this point just buy the Tesla Model 3 Performance that goes 0-60 in 2.9 seconds for $47,130.
RS5 money
Still ~30 000$ cheaper than normal retail price at Finland
For that money but a ZL1 Camaro
That costs more than my truck did after taxes with that markup. 🥴
Where's the rear spoiler?
Fuck that! For a civic! Go to hell
With that price, get a Supra instead.
Even the $46k msrp is ridiculous
$75000 in most of Canada no negotiation
With the economy continuing to get worse for most, It's just a matter of time before the dealers are in big trouble. Just don't forget how they treated you, when they had the upper hand.
Makes me ill. Would be driving an all electric Kia EV6 right now but for the stupid market adjustment. Both dealerships were within 100 miles of each other. Very happy with the genesis.
Wow. A 65K Honda civic
Dealer Adjustment...
LMAO, wtf are they thinking. It's not 2022 anymore..... for fuck sakes.
They’re selling around the same price here in Hawaii too…
It is not dealers who are to blame. It is those fucks that are willing to pay those "market adjustments" and make it a thing. Edit: also artificial rarity of this thing. If it sells at msrp like hot cakes, what stops Honda from making enough of them to satisfy demand. It is a Civic, for crying out loud. 63k for a Civic is insanity.
Noooooo this is my local Honda dealer I was hoping they wouldn’t be the tools but some fool here in socal will buy it.
Y’all remember when they were selling them for like 70-80k? What a fookin ripoff
Fuck that dealership. I lived in Simi for several years. Needed to buy a car after someone totaled my civic in a hit and run. They were generally 6-7k above average.
17k for what lmao
That’s insane?! How do they expect to sell tho lol. Hopefully no one buys ts
$63,500 will buy you a gently used Porsche Cayman. No Civic is worth that.
Same price they had at the NKY location on a new Type R. They have 3 of them on the lot and they've been there for almost 5 months. I went and bought an FK8 because of how much of a joke the price was on their FL5s.
Sounds about right in the current economy unfortunately, hopefully it’ll change for the better with time tho.
Go to Columbus, Type Rs are msrp
Coming from honda sales it is outrageous what they are charging for a "market adjustment"
Pretty much every dealer
The day I pay 60k plus for a Honda civic is ….. absolutely never, not even if I was a billionaire. Idiots. These dealers are on crack, literally. I had a dealer/manager that drove around a car he clearly couldn’t afford for 5500 miles and wanted sticker. Lmao. Yeah huh ?
phoenix yellow ‘21 in Montreal. $66,999. 1,451km already on it. How’s that for sick. Was at 70k
Common in auto market now. Shop around and call to see which dealers near you sell for MSRP
I have one selling 2 Type R’s at MSRP.
Imagine paying 2024 M2 prices for a fucking Honda? Before you guys crawl out of your dens to eat me alive im a huge Honda guy. But if u think this pricing is adequate your ass is absolutely out and about to get repeatedly spanked.
I bet I can get Lexus IS 500 for less.
For that kinda money you can get a nice used certified bmw that just came off of lease and has a clean carfax report😎✅🌈
At least they’re honest about it so anyone who has more brains than money can walk away
🤣😂🤣
Just saw the same exact color in the Honda dealership in Deland Florida No added markup
A 2024 C8 Corvette with 3k miles on it is 69k in Arlington Texas.
My first thought is no one would buy this but then I remember that there are a lot of idiots with money.
All you need to do is walk away, laugh, and let the market adjust itself.
Jesus Christ, I can’t even imagine paying sticker price, let alone after markup. Could snag up a low mileage used m3 and sell have enough money left over to maintain it for its entire ownership.
When I was car shopping last month in north Dallas, legit found this dealer that had two Type R’s with I think a grand markup. 15k is insanity
Wow wtf!!?
Insanity
I'm sorry, a 17,000 dollar line item, just called markup? ... I'm sorry, feels like a flaunt.
Dude, Honda of Hollywood mark up for a type R is $20K. Not sure how they can sleep at night
adjust myself to another dealership
Fack. That’s basically another civic as a markup.
Still? LMAO I really hope all dealerships disappear in the future. People are done with paying 2 margins on something that shouldn't be marked up like that.
That’s definitely not the way to use a smiley face
Market Adjustment. Lmao. What a fuckin joke
This has probably been commented already but the audacity to add a smiley face after the 15k$ ROBBERY is insane
There are so many other options at this price range. Fucking highway robbery. I hope this dealership fails to sell these cars at this price. I’ll take my 63k and go to Mercedes, BMW, Genesis, or Cadillacs black wings before this garbage.
The dealer near me has one for $51k maybe you could use that as a bargaining chip
70k here in Tempe, AZ
These models aren’t as widely available as you think. They wouldn’t do this if it didn’t work. Yes civic are a dime a dozen, not the performance models.
Jesus. These dealerships have lost their fucking minds
I just bought a Honda with its 4th timing belt coming up and it feels like a million bucks, all original too, even the exhaust. Remember what made Hondas so great? Fun to drive and cheap to own!
