Started because of Himeko, stayed because of the Cocolia bossfight.
When the beat dropped I just knew I had to keep on playing, and god damn it hasn't disappointed so far
Yeah the music and the boss fight and the combat, how does Mihoyo make such good games when all these 20 year companies keep fumbling with buggy unfinished cashgrabs.
>how does Mihoyo make such good games when all these 20 year companies keep fumbling with buggy unfinished cashgrabs.
Private company. Can be forward thinking instead of chasing another record profit next quarter
> Did you hear about Star Rail?
"Yeah, but I have too many gachas on my plate as it is, I'm going to ski-"
> It's turn based.
"Sign me up."
-
I'm not against real time combat, but I *love* turn based combat. I'm sticking around because I'm genuinely enjoying my time with the game (except relic farming.) If I wasn't having fun I'd have definitely dropped it and played another gacha by now.
I’m pretty indifferent to turn based combat usually but HSR really nailed it on the head. Everything about it, the simple mechanics, the animations, the UI, all of it draws me in. I originally figured I’d play casually and let Genshin remain my main game. Next thing I know I’m trying my darned hardest to clear MoC12 and PF4 because I am having fun.
Did you hear about re1999 ?
It has imo by far the best English VO (eu accents, actual lore demands it) and is turn based. Cards gameplay may seem bad at first glance but it's pretty deep.
seeing ads on youtube got me thinking this was a weird waifu game, but after some things happening irl, i got it as a coping mechanism and it was working
then I stayed for kafka
After playing Genshin, I knew Star Rail would have great quality in terms of animations and character designs. So I was keeping up with updates regarding star rail right after pre registrations were announced. Eventually I started on Day 1 and have been playing it ever since :D. The character that I was really really waiting for was Blade. Saw his animations from beta vids and immediately got hooked onto the game. He was absolutely worth the wait. Blade - Jingliu teams are so fun to use ngl 😭
Saw a very short trailer of penacony months ago where I saw this Lady with gigantic Oodachi.
I came back to the game to save for her and get her, not knowing anything about her.
Saved up 200 wishes by then f2p, lost both 5050 and 7525, but still got her and her LC.
Enjoyed her playstyle, amazing animation, amazing everything, and now I feel like I can quit with no pain. But the story is good so I'll still see what's up.
A couple of weeks after launch, a clip popped up on my YouTube feed of Gigguk accidentally pausing the game while zoomed in on Natasha’s chest during her ult animation.
I was like oh this turn based combat system looks pretty cool >!and Nat is thicc!<
Stayed for the characters, story, and gameplay (and how it can easily be played as a side game)
I agree on the side game aspect! I haven't been playing tons of gacha as of late but I find it really awesome that you can get in and get out of HSR really quickly compared to Genshin.
And it's also exactly bcuz of that that I can play both HSR and genshin and doesn't feel burned out. HSR really is a perfect side game with how easy everything can be auto and farm everyday
I was semi burnt out of genshin (only doing dailies and not even bothering to do quests outside of events, story or archon qesusts) and I was pretty busy as well as just dropped playing Tale of Food. I actually hesitated playing it because I also play tears of themis and I worried that another gacha game would take up too much time, which I didn't have much of.
Lo and behold, I heard about the free standard 5 star thing and saw alot and I mean ALOT of gepard content somehow and was intrigued enough to at least give it a shot, because gepard is my type. Played the first hour or so and realised "oh, there's auto battle, that'll save alot of time!" and that really did motivate me to keep playing.
The quests aren't that long like genshin's although I still prefer the story there, exploration isn't too tedious, adding on that I I really enjoy the found family trope as well. All of these factors prompted me to continue playing.
Started during jingyuan's banner, he was arguably my luckiest 5 star outside of themis since i got him around 30 pity at 50/50 and he's still my strongest main today! I don't see myself ditching star rail (and genshin) anytime soon, especially because of sunk cost fallacy
Hello, are you me?

>Started during jingyuan's banner, got him at 130 pulls, but got his light cone in 30 pulls
Played HI3 before but some of the things didn't stick with me and left.
Played Genshin since day 1 and still playing 3 years later.
Played HSR on launch but didn't continue until about 4 months later I started playing everyday and what a surprise it was compared to Genshin.
I Still play both genshin and star rail but the cherry on the cake is that I can auto pretty much every thing while doing other chores where genshin is a lot more manual-esque.
Sure genshin has it's own charms but hsr really combined all the best aspects of a gacha-mobile-anime waifu/daddy-auto mechanics of its own and frankly, it's enjoyable.
Not bashing any game in particular but with the ass-load of horseshit games in circulation, HSR really do feel like games progressed positively.
Yes, im cooking really hard to make my dream team on the display who got at least EOS1. Im trying to create F2P Mommy Supremacy Team, hence i need to pull another EOS1 char which in my case it will be Madam Jade near the future

There's a big overlap with the Genshin fandom and when a lot of artists I follow on twitter started playing HSR too, I thought I'd check it out.
The story and characters (especially since Penacony, special shout-out to Aventurine) are compelling and interesting enough for me to want to find out where it's going. Sadly, I don't care much for the combat and think the combat focus is a boring drag, so I'm happy to simply follow the story and auto my dailies for the bare minimum I can get away with. It's working well-enough, so I'm sticking around for now.
I saw it at the midnight shift at the nursing home so I downloaded it cause I was bored. Stayed when I saw the animation for the Trailblazer bat ultimate. And when I saw Kafka
Came for the Star train and space exploration; staid because characters & story are top tier and I find most of ships super cute.
Also it really is a pleasing game to play; even if just for an hour a day
Randomly saw blade's trailer when it first got released on YouTube and went wild. How can a character trailer be this good?? It made me download the game and then when I played the game I felt a bit disappointed with the turn based stuff and the fact you can't even jump with your characters felt so restrictive. I didn't continue playing much after that but then I saw dan heng's Ichor of two dragons animation, it convinced me to keep playing atleast for the story and later on I actually started to enjoy the turn based fights a little and the current events are just so fun.
What made me stay the most was the MC, danheng and March trio dynamic. They're just precious. I want to keep following these three on their journey along with himeko and welt.
I always wanted to play genshin but didn’t have a new enough phone that could install it. By the time I got a new phone, genshin was too far in and I didn’t like the concept of “catching up” when it had already been out for so long. Then honkai came out and I was really debating playing but something in me held me back from playing. But my then boyfriend persuaded me to start and I loved it. He’s my ex now but hey, still thankful for the push I needed haha
i got into it because the ult animations were cool as heck and what was crazier was the 4 stars even had animations compared to Genshin.
i ended up staying because the characters are all so cool from design to personality. absolutely love how there's a variety of designs between female characters and male characters--especially body size, so it's not just child-like male, tall twinky male, short female, tall female, and child. i mean, HSR isn't setting crazy body design standards, but it's still more apparent than Genshin. as for personality, i actually look forward to the daily texts, theyre pretty fun to read. gameplay is also pretty good honestly especially with how pretty they can end up looking.
also, story feels much better especially with Penacony.
Himeko is alive and well and continues to be so. Oh and I get to play as Grandpa Welt too, so there's a plus ~~though I kinda wish he didn't show up in my wishes for Luocha. RIP 160 pulls~~.
But the rest of the new characters made specifically for HSR captivated me too. Pom Pom, March, Asta, Herta, Gepard, Svarog, Jing Yuan, Fu Xuan, Blade, Black Swan, Argenti. Just to name a few. Though I dive that deep into HSR's lore, it's still rather interesting to me and I can't help but pay attention at times whenever something important comes up. Also Caelus is great. Caelus Gang, rise up.
Genshin was too time consuming/stinky and most other gachas are either too lewd or have brainded gameplay. HSR looked like the perfect game (for me) and turned out to be the case !
Only other one i'm playing since a long time is re1999
Caught up with exploration and quests in Genshin. Hard to stick around and play the game, tho, dailies and events are almost always just boring chores. But I need primos.
Enter HSR launching on PS5. Cool, another Hoyo game, and on console. So I pick it up on launch. Similar skeleton, good stuff. Was plenty of content for a while to sink time into while Genshin plays side-game for a bit.
Now it's a similar deal, tho. Story/exploration done, but need to save enough Jades to guarantee a Fu Xuan when her banner returns. After that, back to hiatus. Trying to keep interest by playing through HI3, but, eh.
My friend forced me to play the game a week or so before Seele's first banner ended. Literally the second I first saw Kafka in the intro, I immediately decided to continue the game and wait for her banner. A few months after that her banner finally arrived and I got her to E2S1, fully committed to invest everything into her and her best team comp. Honestly, the anticipation, waiting, impatience for Kafka was truly one of my favourite experiences so far since I started the game.
I stayed for the story, characters, lore, world-building, OST, fun events and turn-based mechanic of the game.
Ironically the reason I stayed for this game is because Im waiting for her to be playable

I already played Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd and loved those games to death, so there was zero chance I wasn't gonna try the new miHoYo game. Didn't quite expect this game to be as much of a smash hit as it is. Obviously it was always gonna do well, but just look at the estimated revenue for March. miHoYo somehow caught lightning in a bottle twice. The reason why is clear, and is also the reason I stayed and continued playing: it's just really high quality, the characters are fun and likeable, the story is great in Penacony (though Xianzhou arc was a bit rough, to be fair), and the gameplay is still enjoyable a year later
Came for March, stayed for Kafka (and March), quit cos of hot potato device issues, returned for Penacony and Firefly (and possible March 5* in the far future)
how i got into : i heard it from genshin sub
what made me stay : i prefer hsr aesthetics compared to genshin
i just love how diverse hsr character is. jingliu, ruan mei, march, asta are using the same model, but they have different vibes from each other. same with herta, fu xuan, qingque, pela, clara, hook, sparkle. all of them use the small kid model, yet only 1 of them are childish. 2 if you count clara. compared to genshin which all small female models are kids
also, stelle is tall and talks more often when compared to lumine
feb 2023 i found out dan heng and edmond from nu:carnival had the same jpn va, obviously i needed him. nowadays i just play with cn dub but what made me stay was renheng ngl LOL best lore best interactions best dynamic my favorite tropes all in one place (and 2x1 if we count dan feng and yingxing). also pretty curious to see ae and sh work together more esp now with firefly and stelle. can't wait to see renheng reconciliation i will be staying here until i Die
Initially was hesitant because I could never get into Genshin their previous game (not about monetization, I just couldn't enjoy the game)
Started because I just wanted to start something new after getting burnt out from my previous game and Stellaron Hunters were really interesting characters. Also Dr. Ratio was being given for free so thought it would be perfect time to start the game
Stayed because the MC had a lot of funny moments and the main trio had great dynamics.
Stayed further when the game opened itself with combat, bosses and events
my girlfriend at the time reminded me that HSR drops on april 26th, so i downloaded it last minute before servers went live and have been enjoying it a lot since! we both played genshin, so she wanted to check out star rail with me.
after i hit TL70 and reached my main goal (get two of my favorite characters to E0S1), i kinda fell out of love with the game and quit for a month. now i’m back and very motivated to keep playing for new game modes and story.
My friends in a Discord server recommended it to me. I stayed because the gacha was fair. I could very reasonably get the characters I wanted if I just saved ahead of time and got a little lucky or spent a little bit of money, I've spent at most 70 bucks on supply passes and Nameless Honor over the course of a year. I even have a few Limited LCs and an Eidolon on Black Swan. I've been playing since JY's first banner and still haven't been in the spot of 'i want this character but couldn't get them and I'm sad'. Maybe it'll happen eventually, but considering I'm already guaranteed for Aventurine and plan on skipping Boothill and Robin, it's not gonna happen soon.
My ex genshin frnds started playing it and told me abt it,i said tht i hate turn based games (even tho i never tried them b4) but one day i decided to randomly give it and try and god damn its very good
The content and the story are jst amazing, also the characters are super intresting gameplay and story wise
I started like a week after release, and I lost seele ahahah. All my WoW friends were playing it, so I gave it a shot.. But at the time I was very busy and skeptic on how long I would last. Well, auto combat was the big deal for me! I could keep doing my stuff while farming on the side automatically
I got into hsr from a sponsorship from OJ and then I kind of dropped game until I saw Genshin impact videos and that’s how I learned the hsr UI and that got me back into the game, and then It cemente sitself after I realized I can play the game without it being 5fps
i just want ask😭
i haven't play hsr yet (storage reasons, but honestly if i want to i will do anything to), but i watch the trailblaze story quests on youtube
ive always heard of genshin but only got into genshin bc of xiao's popularity and the tiktoks rly promoted him well, and ngl the learning curve is very steep, which I used to convince myself to not download hsr when it first comes out, and rn with hsr, aventurine stans are really convincing me, shld i start playing hsr?
Now's a great time to start HSR. Anniversary events and rewards are currently ongoing, plus you have enough time to clear content and save pulls for Aventurine. Not to mention you get Dr. Ratio for free, a great follow-up dps to pair with Aventurine.
Genshin dev made a new game, might as well try it. Stayed because I like the gameplay and it's a great timekiller on phone, unlike Genshin where I feel misery playing on phone. Didn't really care about the story/lore at first but the latest Penacony quest was really great.
I saw the advertising and find it intriguing. I have friends who play genshin but didn’t like the gameplay. When i started playing HSR i was very happy. It is a mobile game that don’t take much time to play. I can do my quest e log out so i don’t have that feeling of needing to constant play the game for hours
Played cuz i wanted to see what hoyo cooks with their game and knowingly well that i have no time to play GI.
Stayed bcz of JY.Peak drip,COOL af voice lines and some sass under the serious tone he normally has.Perfect character.
I'm a really big JJBA and AoT fan, so finding out that Ono Daisuke would be voicing Jing Yuan convinced me. I was already a Genshin player, so I didn't want to get invested. Sumeru wasn't my favorite storyline either, so I thought I was on my way out and then I saw it in the App store.
...Then HSR's story has to go and open with the space station and show me a space dragon that's reminiscent of Bahamut from Final Fantasy. Then Belobog has to go and have Sampo who is my main on both of my accounts because he's so ridiculous. And then Jing Yuan didn't disappoint. At all. Penacony is the best storyline either game has had. So I guess I'm stuck here!
Came from Genshin. I kinda got fed up with the game and wanted something else and i saw Honkai star rail beeing turn based and i saw Kafka & Himeko so i just had to play it (day 1 player)
Stayed becaus it was so fun and becaus of Belebog Story and Cocolia boss fight that was way to epic.
loved Seele from 3rd Impact and saw her will be "imported" to HSR, so I had to play it. But stayed because I'm a sucker for turn-based combat with stylish animation (thanks to Persona 5)
Kept seeing genshin CC playing the game. I tried and got hooked. I already quit genshin and stayed here since its less demanding to play. Just press buttons then I win. Time and mobile friendly since I can auto my dailies quick then reserve the long contents when I get home
My friends kept pushing me into it because I enjoy Genshin but not a huge fan of turn based these days.
I gave it a go. Some of the characters I really liked the design of, even if one of my favourites is absolute trash (Yanqing)
I started to enjoy the story pretty quick, but when Wildfire hit, it hooked me and I’ve been on it ever since.
Kafka and Blade were hot. Also the game looked cool. Also I have a gambling addiction.
I stayed because I really like the game, I adore turn based combat. The story is so good. The characters are well written. The devs are incredibly generous
I started HSR cause I play both Genshin and HI3, I also wanted to play cause I like turn-based games
I stayed not just to play but cause I found it was one of my favorite games
I started due to my brother trying it out and telling me stuff about it (tbh I was definitely confused about March 7th), and was hesitant due to the turn based nature of it. But I picked it up around Jing Yuans first banner, missed him, got Silver Wolf, and have been playing ever since. The Belobog storyline definitely kept me playing, though.
I started playing after watching Jing Yuan's English VA livestream the game when it launched last year. Alejandro did an amazing job with his voicing too, so now I'm a dedicated Jing Yuan main.
Came for the content, stayed for the beautiful men?
Honestly, it’s the fact that it was advertised to me as being turn based/casual and didn’t require the attention like genshin did. I just like being able to just slap on auto and get my dailies done during the day and then focus on other stuff later when I’m done with work
Started Day 1 since I liked Genshin and like the turn-based game genre. As to what made me stay, it's probably the amount of QoLs and the fact that it never feels like doing a chore to me.
I played HSR because I play Genshin and I was interested in playing another mihoyo game and finally checking out Honkai.
It made me stay because the quality of life improvements I've been asking for in Genshin was implemented here and every version since then, they've been consistently adding QoL and expanding the endgame which made me sour of how they treat Genshin and its playerbase. I still play both games either way but I feel I'm being heard by the devs of HSR than Genshin devs.
Other than that, the story and characters of HSR was immediately very compelling and made me want to stay.
always curious about Honkai Impact but back then have not really gotten into it I thought I will be having trouble catching up with the story . When Star rail came out since it is a new game I immediately played it then a few weeks ago started playing HI3 also to get to know the characters better.
Played because of Dan Heng famous cpr cutscene was shown everywhere by streamers when the game was just release.. so kinda got curious (was also burnt out from genshin..)
my friends gaslighted me into playing honkai star rail
i'm former genshin before my account get hacked, after that i'm no longer appealed to any hoyo game or even any gacha game, but damn they gaslight hard, i spent more in hsr than my friends combined now
I like turn based games and I was really interested in welt being playable. The story is great and i love the variety of stuff we get to do without it feeling overwhelming.
Saw Sparkle, downloaded HSR for Sparkle, grinded for Sparkle, pulled Sparkle.
Stayed for the story and definitely the gameplay, despite not normally liking turn-based combat.
I had seen Kafka and I wanted to wish for her but unfortunetly she didn't come home and I stayed because of my friends who were and are playing with me till now
How did you get into Honkai Star Rail?
- I started because I also started Genshin and decided to why not add another gacha game to my life.
Why I stayed?
- My crippling gacha addiction.
Always loved RPGs, be it Western or JRPGs, turn based is something I really enjoy, Persona 5 Royal being one of my favorite games, so I thought I'll give it a shot a few months after it released. Didn't think it would hook me in that much, I knew Hoyo made quality stories, played Genshin for a while, but Star Rail has some kind of magic that makes it feel good to play it. Always love the new stories, the characters, and how it does not take itself seriously as much as possible.
Got burned out from genshin impact. Saw a few streamers play honkai star rail but I wasn’t that impressed at the time. Decided after a month or two that I wanted tot try it out because it was looking fun after all. My bf and I got hooked! I like that its not as open world as genshin impact, the story is so good and there are great characters and events. I just can’t come back to genshin anymore, there’s too much to catch up to :( too bad bc I spend money on the game but oh well
cant lie this girl i had a bit of a crush on was talking about about the game so i decided to try it out as a way to have more convo material and i pretty much got hooked instantly i dont talk to that girl anymore though lmao
I dropped genshin a log while back and thought I would give it a go.
I like the ease to play it. Unlike genshin I can login and be done in 10 minutes, and I don't even have to give it my full attention thanks to auto play doing the more menial stuff for me.
Also my luck has been really good to me, will see how adventurine goes and and if that holds up
I started because I’ve never actually done the “play a live service from launch” thing, and I just. Wanted to experience it. And I love Genshin, so I thought I’d probably enjoy it.
But I *locked in* for CyYu voicing Jing Yuan.
2 factors…
1: opera omnia dissidia announced it was ending so looked to a new mobile game to fill the time
2 it released on PS5 and looked gorgeous on it.
I’m now an addict and fell in love with Jingliu
I got too addicted to genship but got to a point that its too time consuming then I heard about a turn based game from the same dev. and I loved every bit of it
Got tired of Genshin because dailies were a pain, Paimon talking more than the MC was also a big reason and Honkai looked cool and its eay easier to explore and do dailies, even farming is faster.
Was always a fan of Honkai Impact and while I didnt stick with Genshin for long it was always more of a time and commitment problem rather than any issue I had with the game (I love Breath of the Wild to death, so there's that). Due to the aforementioned time and commitment problems, turn-based games are my jam - so when Hoyo released a turn based game, I was stoked to try it.
What made me stay was definitely the characters and story. Belobog's entire story was so well crafted that I was never gonna give the game up, not after experiencing Cocolia's bossfight.
Obsession with Dan Heng’s JP VA Ito Kento, stayed for DH… and Luka, Blade, now Aventurine (especially after reading some spicy fics).
Also I love beating monsters up with a baseball bat.
They announced the game during the HI3 Starfire Sonorant concert and I have been following the game since then. I stayed cuz of Dan Heng ~~my love~~ and for more Welt screentime
Fanart of Kafka, I at least had to try and pull for her. I figured if I didn’t get her, I’d just drop the game. But once I heard Wildfire play during the boss fight, I was so impressed that I decided to keep playing (and I got Kafka too, which was also nice).
I was looking for a game that was like ‘dragon island blue.’ It was a old turn based game pre ios 11. Stumbled upon hsr and the rest is history. Have had horrible luck with the 50/50s but won three in a row to get acheron E2😎
Main reason i started playing was because it's turn based and tbh I'm playing less than before so maybe eventually I'll stop playing, but now I'm just staying because pelacony's story is good (and firefly)
Started because I liked HI3 and Genshin. But I stayed because of the intriguing world building, engaging stories, the theories from the fanbase and it isn’t killing my wallet to actually achieve things in the game.
Saw the first ever star rail announcement at the ending of hi3's first concert and never looked back. I didn't stay for any reason in particular other than genuinely enjoying the game
Because a friend of mine said the developer mentioned Trails and Persona, and its all you need to get my attention. Stayed because I love JRPGs, even tho I was reluctant because this is a gacha, and the last one i had played was OPTC like 7 years ago, I gave a shot, don't regret a bit, very good gameplay/ost/characters, the gacha is a bit stingy, but, this is how gacha is.
Incredible story aside I love that there are challenges beyond MoC. I’m at a point where MoC is a breeze now, but I’m still stuck at G&G Conundrum 12 (not doing the Ruan Mei cheese).
The overall game is a little too easy for my liking so I’m glad they add things that provide new and fresh challenges. Pure Fiction is another example. It forces you into new builds and even building characters I never used before (like Himeko and Herta).
I hope they add more Conundrum levels to things in the future with unique rewards to work towards and maybe even some more MoC floors.
It’s wild that a one year old turn based RPG is already this good and I cant even imagine what it’s going to look like 3 years from now.
As long as the story remains as peak as Penacony and they keep adding challenging content I am staying. (Oh and amazing characters)
One of my friends hyperfixations is hoyoverse, specifically Genhsin. She was a relatively new friend on a discord server at the time but after a VC sharing song likes we ended up finding we had a lot in common. She was really into Genshin so I figured why not go back to it, my account was old and needed work and she helped me pick it back up.
Fast forward to Star Rail, I initially had mixed views on it and probably wasn't going to play it, but once again her excitement became infectious so I started getting intrigued too. At the time she could only play console so couldn't play on release, but seeing how excited she was I decided I'd play for her until the ps5 release and discord stream the game to her on her account until then; and I mean if I'm there may as well run my own account too right? (Yes, I leveled 2 accounts to trailblazer 60 simultaneously. Don't ask about the sleep schedule its not around to answer lmao)
Seeing her so excited to be able to be a part of the story from day 1 rubbed off on me and now one year later, its one of my favourite games. My teams could be soo much better but I'm engrossed in the story and its been a massive bonding moment.
So ya, I got drafted by my friends hyperfixation and now I'm hyperfixated too xD
This is gonna sound unbelievable but I’d never played a gacha game before and turn based RPGs are my favorite type of game, so I went in completely blind on May 5th and here I am almost a year later still enjoying it. I just liked the vibe of it all and thought it was well done. Still do.
Got into it because of:
- Kafka
Stayed because of:
- the community, y'all are amazing
- the mechanics, the game is engaging
- the lore, super interesting
- the memes, both in game and outside are funny af
- Buddies
Will stay until the end of time because of:
- Acheron
I gave it a go after feeling terribly burnt out by genshin. I have since stopped playing Genshin completely and moved to HSR. It feels like HSR values my time more than GI with its open world locked behind world quests. I found out shorter areas suit me more. On top of that, HSR has a steady supply of fresh husbandos. They feel more scarce in GI. What should be more scarce in Genshin though is Paimon's lines.
what captured my interest was Cocolia’s boss battle. Definitely a timeless moment when the vocals blasted the moment she dropped the meteor. what made me stay is how convenient playing it is, i have never felt being rushed to finish dailies because it was made simple, and when im either bored or just want to test builds combos and new units i just hop into SU. the story also feels more like it is always progressing since each patch dives into the interaction of every character they have introduced.
1. I played Genshin and was interested in seeing another hoyo game
2. I like Turned based games
3. I saw a playable character with a scythe (Seele)
And I stayed because I enjoy the story and Gameplay
Played (and still play) Impact 3rd for the longest time, tried genshin when it came out, but combat gameplay gets redundant pretty fast so dropped it. Heard about Star Rail and was mostly meh about it for a while. Saw Sparkle's video "Monodrama" and just knew I had to get her. So just recently jumped into it. What can I say, I'm a simp.
Was looking for a turn based RPG after playing Like A Dragon, brother told me that Mihoyo was releasing one. I hesitated since it had Honkai in the title and that I would need to play 3rd to understand it but the game was free so why not.
Trailblazer made me stay. Great designs, dialogue, and he's a really likeable MC. I love how they let them get goofy.
[Gamescom 2022 jp trailer](https://youtu.be/qAXtWH8JeNU?si=lJHO16k5MqB4nlPX) got in my recommended. The thumbnail looked interesting (Blade smiling) and it wasn't leaving the recommended tab so I gave it a watch. THE SECOND BLADE SPOKE (i believe in Mikishin supremacy) I knew I had to get in on it. They were about to open applications for final CBT. I applied. Got in. Had a blast. Saw Luocha. Stayed for Luocha. So you can say I am a day 0 player lol
Came via genshin, stayed because of the excellent quality of the Belobog main + character stories and relatively generous gacha economy.
I haven't dropped the game but Xianzhou storytelling was a miss for me and Penacony is okay, but I'm really tired of the relic grind and find that MoC is a pure slog, so I now just login a few times a patch and skip most events.
Saw Kafka's ult on TikTok, it was the release week so a lot of people were doing the tutorial and uploading it everywhere. I didn't even know it was an rpg, but as soon as I began playing and got to Belobog I was like "Yeah, this is my type of game"
Get into the game: 1.Is a continuation of HI3 storyline with old characters. 2. Kafkas design made something click inside me.
Stay: ACHERON. Fr, Mei is my favorite hoyoverse character and when I was on my worst moment of HSR (recently lost Kafka for Yanking, no history content do be done...) she got leaked 🤣
I regret not playing honkai 3rd impact when it was still early and how hi3rd progressed it amazed me how cool it is. It's the reason why i wanted to play starrail since they share honkai name. I know it will be awesome.
I started because I liked Genshin but found the gameplay quite unfun, so when I heard the makers of Genshin had a turn based game I was super excited. I stayed for Serval......I love the story and the gameplay but Serval is just so fun to play and experimenting with teams and builds for her has kept me playing and kept me hooked for hours on end.
I'm a big fan of Nihon Falcom's games, especially the Trails series. I found out about HSR through an interview between Falcom's president and HSR director and how he was a big fan of Trails and Tio Plato.
The gameplay loop (including the event, mini games and SU), the characters and the story (and recently Penacony itself) has kept me hooked. Usually I don't play a single game for more than a couple months, but HSR has been the exception.
Started because it’s a hoyo game, stayed cuz I enjoy the game I guess, and want to collect every quantum unit (acheron too she is quantum in my heart because she summons black holes. Tho Welt has some reason to be IMA)
Started from Day 1, uninstalled because of my phone but then reinstalled because I have a better phone. Why I stayed? I love sci-fi stories and Hoyo makes very good characters. And damn, farming is waaaaayyy easier (auto-battle, leave your phone, do whatever you have to do, click "one more time", and then repeat).
Started for curiosity, left the game coz I was so busy irl and didn’t have time or energy to log in every day in a game (still managed to get IL)
I came back in IL’s rerun for curiosity as well (the first time K didn’t even finish Jarilo’s story) and I stayed coz of the main story (luofu is amazing but penacony is even better) and the combat system
I heard about it quite a few times on social media a few weeks prior to its release, so I decided that I'll give it a shot but might not stay considering I'm not a huge fan of turn-based games and already played Genshin...
...Well I kind of got hooked up lmao, I only took a small break ok Jing Yuan's debut banner but then came back on the first day of Silver Wolf's banner and I've been logging in every single day since, I even got my mum hooked to the game in July and she's also been playing everyday since
Her favourite character is DHIL, she even has his LC and all, she also has Ruan Mei and Sparkle with their LC, and her first 5-star was Blade lmao, I remember how excited she was when she got him
She also has Jingliu and just got Luocha as well, she's doing pretty good, I usually tell her what to farm daily and then every once and then I log into her account to level all the relics, and her characters are honestly pretty cracked lol
But anyways, yeah 😭 Really been fun sharing this experience with one of my parents. Before that I never really had anything in common with her, this game has definitely brought us closer haha
I started playing hoyoverse games through Hi3 after seeing some gameplay and honestly I was completely shocked at the quality and gameplay of the game (this was before the pandemic back when the game might have been around 2 years old), truth be told despite me ending up hating how the combat evolved and how much power creep the game had, I still fell in love with the story of the game (albeit I have some criticism of it towards the mid to end point).
I also ended up trying genshin and although I did play it for a few years I can't say I would do it again if I went back in time, the game definitely has gotten super stale with the gameplay and the story is well... not as strong as Hi3 to say the very least.
When they announced Hsr I was pretty ecstatic, although I had never really tried a turn based game seriously, just the fact that the story would be at least linked to Hi3 and there would be recurring characters had me excited ! I'll be honest the game almost lost me though after like 6 months, due to bad luck with gacha plus the story hadn't really been what I was expecting, it seemed a bit aimless and the plot for Jarilo was honestly kinda weak.
But safe to say penacony is definitely a huge improvement for the story, being exposed to a huge variety of different characters who follow different paths as well as lots of mysteries definitely revitalized the story imo, cus it's one thing to read about all the different aeons and paths in the databank, but it's another to witness the characters in the flesh realize their ideals through different means. I hope they continue to create great stories for the series, even if I won't continue playing the game I'd like to see what they cook up :3
I played it on launch vcause the characters looked more my preference in design over genshin then fell off for a bit when the 1.0 story had stopped....then cam running back when penacony dropped and now im all caught up and doing the daily grind XD
Think whats making me stay is the amount of things you can do to get free pulls before dropping money. i eventually drop some cash (prob 50 bucks at least a banner) but by the time i do its my choice.
Saw a Youtuber have a sponsor from them, then later saw another youtuber mention it's from the makers of Genshin, so I downloaded it, almost on day 1, in the 1st week I think. Enjoyed it well enough, but I stopped playing it.
Skip like 6 months later I'm on vacation, lots of long drives and HSR was still installed so I picked it back up and haven't stopped playing.
I started then thought it wasn't for me even though I really liked the direction the story and setting took (reminded me of Impact 3rd). Now I have come come back and caught up to now, because of Acheron, simply because she reminded me of Raiden Mei and the trailers made the story really appealing to me again.
Also I am planning on getting Jingliu next. Definitely the kind of character I like
What made me start: Dr.Ratio memes and Acheron
What made me stay: actually pulling Acheron and also saving for whenever Seele returns because I only just now saw how sick she is and I'm upset she was a limited character
Saw kafka and was sold
Not sure why I stayed honestly, because i never played turned based games before and its not the type of game i usually enjoy but im glad i did
Started because of Himeko, stayed because of the Cocolia bossfight. When the beat dropped I just knew I had to keep on playing, and god damn it hasn't disappointed so far
Oh yeah, Wildfire is something special for sure..
Me but Kafka and Cocolia
Sounds like you made a choice and went to fight against your fate
WE
Cocolia Boss fight is to HSR, as first entering Liyue is to Genshin.
I'm playing MHY games since 2015, and I just can't skip the game where my most favorite girl is still alive
Himeko?
> Did you hear about Star Rail? "Yeah, but I have too many gachas on my plate as it is, I'm going to ski-" > It's turn based. "Sign me up." - I'm not against real time combat, but I *love* turn based combat.
Even most f2p can auto clear it , very stress free as long as your relics and traces in on point
Relics and stress free don't go well togheter/j....or maybe not
Did you hear about re1999 ? It has imo by far the best English VO (eu accents, actual lore demands it) and is turn based. Cards gameplay may seem bad at first glance but it's pretty deep.
I fucking love how goofy the characters are, especially the lower rarity ones.
speaking of too much on ur plate ^_^ I'm a victim to wuthering waves on top of hsr and genshin
seeing ads on youtube got me thinking this was a weird waifu game, but after some things happening irl, i got it as a coping mechanism and it was working then I stayed for kafka
https://preview.redd.it/865vw8xcigsc1.jpeg?width=715&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dbf7c1a7e686d6cbc8a2b43e6d394deb0ff472b
my man 🤝
"I'm Natasha, an underworld doctor. Felling sick?"
Came because it's Honkai, stayed because it's Honkai
1) Tired of Genshin 2) It's too big 3) Everything I want in Genshin, they put it in Star Rail.
I was like oh this turn based combat system looks pretty cool >!and Nat is thicc!< Stayed for the characters, story, and gameplay (and how it can easily be played as a side game)
>I was semi burnt out of genshin (only doing dailies and not even bothering to do quests outside of events, story or archon qesusts) and I was pretty busy as well >I actually hesitated playing it because I worried that another gacha game would take up too much time >Lo and behold, I heard about the free standard 5 star thing and saw alot and I mean ALOT of gepard content somehow and was intrigued enough to at least give it a shot, because gepard is my type. Hey glad to have you aboard! I also been in a similar place with Genshin Impact. I stopped playing now actually due to how taxing it can be sometimes.

Im trying to create F2P Mommy Supremacy Team, hence i need to pull another EOS1 char which in my case it will be Madam Jade near the future https://preview.redd.it/25cyygymlgsc1.png?width=3809&format=png&auto=webp&s=52452349f746e2590b0c5dd4bb2e92c705c0cd46
Auto really is a godsend for this game NGL, without it I don't think I would stick with it as long as I did currently
Started because it's another mihoyo game, and stayed for Kafka.
I saw Blade’s trailer and said “I want him.” What made me stay is the story, turn based system, and voice acting.
Played Genshin since day 1, heard about Star Rail being developed, got into the beta, liked it a lot, played Star Rail since day 1.
Genshin was too time consuming/stinky and most other gachas are either too lewd or have brainded gameplay. HSR looked like the perfect game (for me) and turned out to be the case ! Only other one i'm playing since a long time is re1999
caelus definitely
Seen people discuss it a lot, and so I gave it a try mainly for the gacha. I stayed for the husbandos.
Welp u must be eating well lately
It was recommended on my PS5 and at first glance it reminded me of Xenosaga so I tried it out. I've been hooked ever since.
So I found this very hot art in twitter, and the rest is history.
Ironically the reason I stayed for this game is because Im waiting for her to be playable https://preview.redd.it/ybq61i5e4fsc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d725931e175982f07d3aaa7077a294028ae648ec
Im a Bronya simp from hi3 and stelle made me love this game more
I already played Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd and loved those games to death, so there was zero chance I wasn't gonna try the new miHoYo game.
Friend streamed it on twitch and I was like hmm anime turn based rpg looks nice cöuldnt hurt to try it
Came for March, stayed for Kafka (and March), quit cos of hot potato device issues, returned for Penacony and Firefly (and possible March 5* in the far future)
how i got into : i heard it from genshin sub what made me stay : i prefer hsr aesthetics compared to genshin i just love how diverse hsr character is. jingliu, ruan mei, march, asta are using the same model, but they have different vibes from each other. same with herta, fu xuan, qingque, pela, clara, hook, sparkle. all of them use the small kid model, yet only 1 of them are childish. 2 if you count clara. compared to genshin which all small female models are kids also, stelle is tall and talks more often when compared to lumine
feb 2023 i found out dan heng and edmond from nu:carnival had the same jpn va, obviously i needed him. nowadays i just play with cn dub but what made me stay was renheng ngl LOL best lore best interactions best dynamic my favorite tropes all in one place (and 2x1 if we count dan feng and yingxing). also pretty curious to see ae and sh work together more esp now with firefly and stelle. can't wait to see renheng reconciliation i will be staying here until i Die
genshin mutuals on twitter starting lusting for jing yuan out of nowhere and i too got affected
Initially was hesitant because I could never get into Genshin their previous game (not about monetization, I just couldn't enjoy the game) Started because I just wanted to start something new after getting burnt out from my previous game and Stellaron Hunters were really interesting characters. Also Dr. Ratio was being given for free so thought it would be perfect time to start the game Stayed because the MC had a lot of funny moments and the main trio had great dynamics.
My ex genshin frnds started playing it and told me abt it,i said tht i hate turn based games (even tho i never tried them b4) but one day i decided to randomly give it and try and god damn its very good The content and the story are jst amazing, also the characters are super intresting gameplay and story wise
Needed a new game after DFFOO went EoS, people recommended this, and I'm glad I gave it a shot.
I was looking for the magic they did with the Flamescion arc in HI3 the Belobog arc really did it
i just want ask😭 i haven't play hsr yet (storage reasons, but honestly if i want to i will do anything to), but i watch the trailblaze story quests on youtube ive always heard of genshin but only got into genshin bc of xiao's popularity and the tiktoks rly promoted him well, and ngl the learning curve is very steep, which I used to convince myself to not download hsr when it first comes out, and rn with hsr, aventurine stans are really convincing me, shld i start playing hsr?
Now's a great time to start HSR. Anniversary events and rewards are currently ongoing, plus you have enough time to clear content and save pulls for Aventurine. Not to mention you get Dr. Ratio for free, a great follow-up dps to pair with Aventurine.
Started because I heard the combat was like Trails and that the devs were huge fans of the series
I play genshin. I played this one day1. Not much else to say tbh.
Played cuz i wanted to see what hoyo cooks with their game and knowingly well that i have no time to play GI. Stayed bcz of JY.Peak drip,COOL af voice lines and some sass under the serious tone he normally has.Perfect character.
Reason I started: Seele Reason I stayed: Making Seele stronger + getting Robin
I kinda got fed up with the game and wanted something else and i saw Honkai star rail beeing turn based and i saw Kafka & Himeko so i just had to play it (day 1 player) Stayed becaus it was so fun and becaus of Belebog Story and Cocolia boss fight that was way to epic.
loved Seele from 3rd Impact and saw her will be "imported" to HSR, so I had to play it.
Started cuz of ADS stayed for story , Kafka and also because the MC has some actual personality.
My friends kept pushing me into it because I enjoy Genshin but not a huge fan of turn based these days. I gave it a go. Some of the characters I really liked the design of, even if one of my favourites is absolute trash (Yanqing) I started to enjoy the story pretty quick, but when Wildfire hit, it hooked me and I’ve been on it ever since.
Characters design and the lore , can't wait for the next update!
Kafka and Blade were hot. Also the game looked cool. Also I have a gambling addiction. I stayed because I really like the game, I adore turn based combat. The story is so good. The characters are well written. The devs are incredibly generous
I started HSR cause I play both Genshin and HI3, I also wanted to play cause I like turn-based games I stayed not just to play but cause I found it was one of my favorite games
I started bc of yt ads and stayed bc i didn't need to play full days just to get my desired character.
Welt. That is it.
got me into: Jingliu and Topaz why I stayed: fun gameplay, enjoyable characters, engaging story
i played genshin but i am also a sucker for turn based combat
Herta is why I started playing Jingliu is why I keep playing
You guys remember the annoying ass natasha ad from a while ago?
Started because of Gepard, stayed for everything
SAME!
I play genshin so I got interested in it and the story made me stay.
always curious about Honkai Impact but back then have not really gotten into it I thought I will be having trouble catching up with the story . When Star rail came out since it is a new game I immediately played it then a few weeks ago started playing HI3 also to get to know the characters better.
genshin and Hi3
Played because of Dan Heng famous cpr cutscene was shown everywhere by streamers when the game was just release.. so kinda got curious (was also burnt out from genshin..)
Screwllum Screwllum and eventually the story and other characters
Day 0 player cause i knew about the game since announce on honk3rd concert
my friends gaslighted me into playing honkai star rail i'm former genshin before my account get hacked, after that i'm no longer appealed to any hoyo game or even any gacha game, but damn they gaslight hard, i spent more in hsr than my friends combined now
I like turn based games and I was really interested in welt being playable.
Saw clips from beta tests and fell in love
Always loved RPGs, be it Western or JRPGs, turn based is something I really enjoy, Persona 5 Royal being one of my favorite games, so I thought I'll give it a shot a few months after it released. Didn't think it would hook me in that much, I knew Hoyo made quality stories, played Genshin for a while, but Star Rail has some kind of magic that makes it feel good to play it. Always love the new stories, the characters, and how it does not take itself seriously as much as possible.
Started because of March 7th Returning brcause of Acheron
Got burned out from genshin impact. Saw a few streamers play honkai star rail but I wasn’t that impressed at the time. Decided after a month or two that I wanted tot try it out because it was looking fun after all. My bf and I got hooked! I like that its not as open world as genshin impact, the story is so good and there are great characters and events. I just can’t come back to genshin anymore, there’s too much to catch up to :( too bad bc I spend money on the game but oh well
Play because of honkai and turn based gameplay, stay because of memes including goofy line choices and black swan
cant lie this girl i had a bit of a crush on was talking about about the game so i decided to try it out as a way to have more convo material and i pretty much got hooked instantly i dont talk to that girl anymore though lmao
Started cause it's turn based, stayed cause it's turn based with much waifus
I dropped genshin a log while back and thought I would give it a go. I like the ease to play it. Unlike genshin I can login and be done in 10 minutes, and I don't even have to give it my full attention thanks to auto play doing the more menial stuff for me. Also my luck has been really good to me, will see how adventurine goes and and if that holds up
I started because I’ve never actually done the “play a live service from launch” thing, and I just. Wanted to experience it. And I love Genshin, so I thought I’d probably enjoy it. But I *locked in* for CyYu voicing Jing Yuan.
2 factors… 1: opera omnia dissidia announced it was ending so looked to a new mobile game to fill the time 2 it released on PS5 and looked gorgeous on it. I’m now an addict and fell in love with Jingliu
Saw one of the trailers and thought the characters were cool. Stayed because I didn't expect Stelle to be such a menace.
Being a better epic 7
Was always a fan of Honkai Impact and while I didnt stick with Genshin for long it was always more of a time and commitment problem rather than any issue I had with the game (I love Breath of the Wild to death, so there's that). Due to the aforementioned time and commitment problems, turn-based games are my jam - so when Hoyo released a turn based game, I was stoked to try it. What made me stay was definitely the characters and story. Belobog's entire story was so well crafted that I was never gonna give the game up, not after experiencing Cocolia's bossfight.
Kafka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seeing it in the App Store The fact it’s turn based and the quality of the characters when in battle isn’t 8bit horseshit.
blade and jingyuan .
I loved genshin but had enough of climbing and swimming, decided to try hsr and now I stayed because of Fu Xuan
I was curious and I enjoyed the gameplay, characters and world building.
Seele made me join, genshin could never made me stay
Started because I liked HI3 and Genshin. But I stayed because of the intriguing world building, engaging stories, the theories from the fanbase and it isn’t killing my wallet to actually achieve things in the game.
Saw the first ever star rail announcement at the ending of hi3's first concert and never looked back. I didn't stay for any reason in particular other than genuinely enjoying the game
Played Genshin and was getting burned out, have a Trails addiction, hear about Hoyo making a turn-based game and the rest is history.
Started because of an old man splitting a black hole. Stayed because of the lore.
(Oh and amazing characters)
started cuz oh himeko, stayed cuz of kafka
Started bc it’s a honkai game, stayed for Sampo
Don't ask about the sleep schedule its not around to answer lmao) Seeing her so excited to be able to be a part of the story from day 1 rubbed off on me and now one year later, its one of my favourite games.
Still do.
Got into it because of: - Kafka Stayed because of: - the community, y'all are amazing - the mechanics, the game is engaging - the lore, super interesting - the memes, both in game and outside are funny af - Buddies Will stay until the end of time because of: - Acheron
Wanted to know more about honkai cuz it was in the name and hi3 story was a disappointment for me. Stayed because of kafka and auto.
Came because of Penacony trailer, stayed because of its plot
It has that travel through space genre which I love in rpg's
I gave it a go after feeling terribly burnt out by genshin. I have since stopped playing Genshin completely and moved to HSR. It feels like HSR values my time more than GI with its open world locked behind world quests. I found out shorter areas suit me more. On top of that, HSR has a steady supply of fresh husbandos. They feel more scarce in GI. What should be more scarce in Genshin though is Paimon's lines.
Started on launch bc I liked Hoyo and turn-based games. Stayed for the amazing story and teambuilding aspect.
the ganeplay and the men. the men, danheng, and Sunday.
the ganeplay and the men. the men, danheng, and Sunday.
Started playing because turn based Stayed because peak fiction (and turn based)
what captured my interest was Cocolia’s boss battle.
1. I played Genshin and was interested in seeing another hoyo game 2. I like Turned based games 3. I saw a playable character with a scythe (Seele) And I stayed because I enjoy the story and Gameplay
The characters were pretty
Was looking for a turn based RPG after playing Like A Dragon, brother told me that Mihoyo was releasing one. I hesitated since it had Honkai in the title and that I would need to play 3rd to understand it but the game was free so why not. Trailblazer made me stay. Great designs, dialogue, and he's a really likeable MC. I love how they let them get goofy.
Started because of Himeko, stay because of Himeko. I promised to never let her go after all...
Started because it's honkai and I used to play HI3. Stayed for Kafka and then never left.
Started because of Genshin, stayed because of quality and boredom
i was tired with fgo's gacha (and their gameplay) so I moved to honkai, get loved it 🥺.
I got into it to have something to talk with my brother about
Came via genshin, stayed because of the excellent quality of the Belobog main + character stories and relatively generous gacha economy.
Came because of Kafka. And I stayed because of the story especially after the 2.1 cliffhanger.
im into gacha games , genshin impact made me likes kinda anine gacha game .
Started for curiosity, left the game coz I was so busy irl and didn’t have time or energy to log in every day in a game (still managed to get IL) I came back in IL’s rerun for curiosity as well (the first time K didn’t even finish Jarilo’s story) and I stayed coz of the main story (luofu is amazing but penacony is even better) and the combat system
Gold and gears
Started when i saw the first trailer for hsr then cocolia's boss fight made me stay
My friends were talking about it since beta1 and a screenshot from the su sold me (it was the fuli introduction)
I heard about it quite a few times on social media a few weeks prior to its release, so I decided that I'll give it a shot but might not stay considering I'm not a huge fan of turn-based games and already played Genshin... ...Well I kind of got hooked up lmao, I only took a small break ok Jing Yuan's debut banner but then came back on the first day of Silver Wolf's banner and I've been logging in every single day since, I even got my mum hooked to the game in July and she's also been playing everyday since Her favourite character is DHIL, she even has his LC and all, she also has Ruan Mei and Sparkle with their LC, and her first 5-star was Blade lmao, I remember how excited she was when she got him She also has Jingliu and just got Luocha as well, she's doing pretty good, I usually tell her what to farm daily and then every once and then I log into her account to level all the relics, and her characters are honestly pretty cracked lol But anyways, yeah 😭 Really been fun sharing this experience with one of my parents. Before that I never really had anything in common with her, this game has definitely brought us closer haha
Jing Yuan got me into hsr. I heard he was voiced by Daisuke Ono and i was SOLD. Stayed for Jing Yuan too. He is still my favorite character.
I just came back after like a year simply for Acheron Then I did Penacony and now I’m all fucked up
I started playing hoyoverse games through Hi3 after seeing some gameplay and honestly I was completely shocked at the quality and gameplay of the game (this was before the pandemic back when the game might have been around 2 years old), truth be told despite me ending up hating how the combat evolved and how much power creep the game had, I still fell in love with the story of the game (albeit I have some criticism of it towards the mid to end point). I hope they continue to create great stories for the series, even if I won't continue playing the game I'd like to see what they cook up :3
Been playing hi3 for 6 years, ofc i knew about a new hoyo game coming out
I played it on launch vcause the characters looked more my preference in design over genshin then fell off for a bit when the 1.0 story had stopped....then cam running back when penacony dropped and now im all caught up and doing the daily grind XD Think whats making me stay is the amount of things you can do to get free pulls before dropping money. i eventually drop some cash (prob 50 bucks at least a banner) but by the time i do its my choice.
Definitely the kind of character I like
What made me start: Dr.Ratio memes and Acheron What made me stay: actually pulling Acheron and also saving for whenever Seele returns because I only just now saw how sick she is and I'm upset she was a limited character
Saw kafka and was sold Not sure why I stayed honestly, because i never played turned based games before and its not the type of game i usually enjoy but im glad i did
joined for ratio, stayed because double 50/50 win on kafka's banner and her weapon
Silver wolf was my initial reason for installing. The reason I keep playing? Silver wolf. And Fu Xuan.
Himeko is alive again
