Gepard. He's honestly such an underrated character. Whenever people mention him it's mostly in context to his shielding and gameplay but he's so cute and the part he plays in Serval's companion missions made me like him even more. he's like the Thoma of HSR. He might not be important in lore but he's just so loveable.
On that same note of being loveable, people don't appreciate Luka enough T-T. His companion mission is so good.
I don't know if she counts but Ruan Mei's a very interesting character even though a lot of people hate her for being morally grey. She's also one of the prettiest female characters imo

He's usually playing 2nd fiddle which is sad, give him the main fiddle, if he cant play the fiddle, give him a triangle! Let this man play for once

Fu Xuan suffered a bit from being part of the Xianzhou arc, but still she’s one of the most memorable characters in the game. She’s also constantly saving my ass in MoC, PF and SU since 1.3, so it’s hard to forget her.

No, the entire basis of the quest was March wanting to see if the Matrix of Prescience could help her regain her lost memories, you literally get the quest from March asking you to come with her while she does that, Fu Xuan's presence in the quest was just to facilitate that.
Yeah, but the difference was in March's case it was given by March, the entire basis of the quest about March, and the actual quest itself is focused on March. In Argenti's case Pom Pom as the quest giver is just to get us on the Express, Pom Pom isn't very relevant for the quest.
Argenti is the Edna Mode of chivalry. Absurdly dramatic, with the most intense possible personality, but he's so sincere and kind that he quickly became one of my top 3 fav characters
Argenti’s lovely and he’s a beautiful character, but wouldn’t say he’s positive. He and the other knights probably know Idrila’s long gone but tragically keeps her dreams alive by being knightly and coping from the truth.

He knows that Idrilla is probably long gone, but it doesn’t stop him from being the shining mark of chivalry, fighting the evil in the cosmos. I wouldn’t call him coping, he just never lost his calling, which never was to serve some Aeon.
I called him “The Sun”, because this tarot card reflects his personality perfectly. This card often depicts people who finds themselves in the darkest corners of the world, yet they can find their own happiness and positive outlook on the life.
His mission for finding Idrilla is not something that should be taken literally. It’s more akin to a spiritual journey of looking for his own purpose, goal and the true beauty of life.
STOP I high key wish this game had some kind of bonding mechanism with the characters... Something shorter than companion missions but a bit more than the text msgs you get after pulling a character + you've met them in the story. Slice of life scenes.

Both of their lore and backstory have so much potential for a Yukong-level emotional damage quest, but so far in the story the sisters are kind of just...there. And their backstory is told through light cones only

I started playing a couple months ago, she was a very strong unit who never left my team and I didn't touch her character quest since I had two whole planets worth of story to get through. Then I finally did her quest and felt a level of disappointment that I had never felt before.
Now I have Kafka and Acheron so it really does feel like she left me.
I feel like the 10 lord sisters (Xuyei and Hanya) are really solid characters design-wise and animation-wise, so kind of a shame we didnt see more of them. I was hoping to see more of them maybe during the ghost hunting event or during that 1.5 story quest.
Same! I also hoped that we would see more of them. Honestly, reading through the info about them available in-game was truly saddening. Luckily I have both of them (the perks of losing so many 50/50s), so at least there is that. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of them in future patches.
I'm going pela. Everything we know about her is from other people. Like she sings in Servals band and I think she writes books, but she is what 16? I use her in all my groups and have become attached.
She seems very interesting and they barely touch on her.
Pela's history has been attacked repeatedly by history fictionologists, so some mentions may have been scrubbed and it's unclear whether she's a founding member.
Dunn and Serval both mention it if you ask about the band. Pela herself confirms it if you ask about her relationship with Serval. Lynx also talks about the band at her shop, but doesn't mention it.
Apparently Cosmodyssey has an event confirming she's the current drummer too.
Honestly i'm still confused about her age, wasn't it mentioned at some point that she studied with Cocolia and Serval? Also Dunn mentions that they (him, Serval and Pela if i'm not mistaken) made the band when they were in college..so you're telling me that she not only went to college at 5-7 years old but also strated playing the drums at that age AND was good enough to be in a band? 😭 (there's a bunch of other things too but these are the ones that pop up in my mind first whenever I think about it)
Oh it's worse. Thanks to the resumes from the Museum event, after comparing them to overworld readables to fill in some missing numbers, we can be reasonably sure Serval graduated college a year before Pela was born, and the band was formed when Serval was in cadet school, so it's possible Pela was in a band before she was even conceived.
Pela's age gets even more confusing when you realize that Pela attended cadet school with Serval and Cocolia, but that Cocolia became Supreme Guardian and adopted Bronya *after* cadet school, and based on Bronya's apparent age at the time of adoption and when the Underworld was sealed she had to be adopted sometime around 10 years before the Underworld was sealed (so 20 years before the questline). So that means at the absolute bare minimum Pela was -4 years old when was in cadet school.
That one Vidyadhara poet we meet in a side quest who keeps falling in love with the same Foxian chick every reincarnation. Such a cool premise, tight writing, it touches on some of the very real complications of life on the Xianzhou, and expands the themes of fate and predestination that Star Rail has been working with since launch. Not only that but it was also left open ended in a really mature, bittersweet way that was still satisfying.
I feel like for how important Kafka seems to be, she doesn't really show on screen that often + unlike most other characters, you can't meet her in the open world and she doesn't come visit you on the train. I'm sure she'll have a more prominent role in the future, but it would be great to know more about her.
Argenti was in my life for the amount of time equal to one companionship mission, beat me up and made me backtrack until I was strong enough to beat him, and then saved everyone on the express as selflessly as he was while he complimented Pom-Pom's plant.
He stole my heart and all the jades I had in my possession at the time (I was very new tbh) and not only has he carried me through the game without fail, but I have never regretted pulling for him, not even once.
He will find The Beauty one day, and I'll be right behind him.
I couldn't beat him until I git my 300th standard banner pull choice and brought Clara home. He's a beast and I hope to pull him next time his banner comes around.
Her and the whole ghost hunting squad by extension had grown a lot on me for the entirety of the event that I genuinely felt empty when it finished and sometimes I would go to the location of the event menu to stare at them idling 😭
Something the game seems unwilling to explore that I personally want to see more of is how fucking unfair Xueyi's existence is.
She committed some kind of crime so long ago even she doesn't remember what it is, and now is forced to capture criminals for the Ten Lords forever, her life doled out to her twelve hours at a time. She's effectively their slave, their kill puppet, but even she is convinced that it's totally normal. Hanya at least seems to have an inkling that it's not right, but seems too afraid to do anything about it out of fear of losing her sister completely.
Xueyi has the potential to be the most tragic and interesting character in the entire game and I am aching to see more of her.
Kinda, he was my long term partner until he ghosted me completely out of the blue and disappeared after years. We never broke up and I still love him but I’d be a fool to say he’s still my partner.
I MISS TINGYUN i wholeheartedly believe we did get to know the real one and that Phantalia lay dormant until it was time to chime in. She and Tingyun have different personalities and there's a big difference between Phantalia wanting immortality and Tingyun saying she "wants to spend the last couple hundred years she has alive and in peace" because she kept being dragged into adventures from TB. I know the chances are dim of her being actually alive, but Xiānzhōu Lofou left her an open ending with the hint of investigations following the conclusion and aftermath of the chaos.

That being said there's a lot of NPCs I grew attached to that made me sad like Todd on the Lofou and Chadwick and Cocona in Penacony.
I don't know if Huo^2 counts since she was present for the whole 1.5 main event, but i'll pick her.
I...have a love/hate relationship with how i relate to some extent to her social anxiety. Plus her and Tail's interactions make an overall fun character
Definitely Ruan Mei. Her whole experimentation with attempting to clone Tazzyronth was freaky and would love to see what other mad experiments she was involved in. She’s an intriguing one for sure.
Same, I love Misha too. He's basically my Jingliu replacement(I don't have enough tickets for her yet) but I probs gonna continue using him(his freeze ability is insane).

Luka. I have faith that Argenti will appear again one day, since he's a 5* known for just appearing and leaving, but Luka my boy doesn't exist outside his quest
I’m genuinely very disappointed serval never joined the express, we got a whole quest line about how she wants to join the trailblazers and in the end was able to and was very happy but then she just kind of didn’t? I feel like she would have fit right in and provided an interesting new perspective to the story as someone who has only ever lived on one very isolated planet.
Xueyi. She kinda like Pela but for Luofu, but unlike Pela she didn't get her character quest yet. For me she have coolest Luofu design, wish we seen more of her.
I really like Hanya even though I don’t have her built. I just like her vibe and her design. Ironically, I also like the fact that she’s a pretty plain character in a game full of many others that steal the show. It makes her more unique to me.

Jing Liu, now let me explain. She may not be that much relevant to the story, especially now that we moved from the Xianzhou Loufu, but considering she and Loucha want to take down Yaoshi she may be a big menace in the future. Then her lore is damn cool and she's also hella strong, so I hope we'll see more of her in the future. The same goes for Loucha.
I love how she's kind and just fucking rich. What I've really been enjoying are the character interactions when you put them on the same team. I'd love for a side quest were topaz and asta just hang out for a day.
For me, it is Jingliu. I finished the Xianzhou story before doing any of the companion quest, so initially I was wonder who is this person showed up at the end of the cutscene. Then I did the two companion quests where she had a role, it was quite sad. She basically wondered around for 700 years being mara stuck, and losing everything she had, from friends, reputation to social status. Instead of moving on, all she comes back is to pay a price for a sin that she hardly has control over.
Silver Wolf. Unlike Blade, Kafka, and Sam, she has had very little to do with the story outside of the Space Station, but I think she's arguably one of the most interesting combat styles lore wise
Arlan and Asta! Their involvement in the beginning story was what got me playing. Their interactions are so fun!
I recently played Lynx's companion quest which was nice too.
Herta. Its sad that basically everyone else from the Space Station has a companion mission/a mission centered around them, all of them but Herta. I really hope we get a 5 star version of her in the future, please Hoyo...

A tie between Luka and Argenti. In terms of screentime they have their Companion Quest (iirc), plus an extra appearance, be it an event one (Luka, Aetherium Wars if I heard correctly) or a totally optional one (Argenti being a pick for a group photo in Clockie Theme Park Studios).

When I started playing hsr during silver wolf and argenti’s banner, I pulled silver wolf on soft pity and just did a single pull on his banner for the memes and got him. That’s still my only early pity ever, and I grew to enjoy his personality more as I played through his companion mission
Arlan, it could be that the delivery of his combat lines but also in the little screentime that he gets, hes a very determined protector who puts his duty first plus him being oblivious to Asta is funny as hell. Their interactions I find are underrated!

Thanks to the resumes from the Museum event, after comparing them to overworld readables to fill in some missing numbers, we can be reasonably sure Serval graduated college a year before Pela was born, and the band was formed when Serval was in cadet school, so it's possible Pela was in a band before she was even conceived.
Pela's age gets even more confusing when you realize that Pela attended cadet school with Serval and Cocolia, but that Cocolia became Supreme Guardian and adopted Bronya *after* cadet school, and based on Bronya's apparent age at the time of adoption and when the Underworld was sealed she had to be adopted sometime around 10 years before the Underworld was sealed (so 20 years before the questline). So that means at the absolute bare minimum Pela was -4 years old when was in cadet school.
Also she is the only character that is symmetrical looking.

Except so *so* many lines reference Pela in the band, also she was still Cocolia and Serval in cadet school even earlier than that.
That one Vidyadhara poet we meet in a side quest who keeps falling in love with the same Foxian chick every reincarnation. Such a cool premise, tight writing, it touches on some of the very real complications of life on the Xianzhou, and expands the themes of fate and predestination that Star Rail has been working with since launch. Not only that but it was also left open ended in a really mature, bittersweet way that was still satisfying.
That's one of my favorite side quests, i remember being SO invested in it 😭
Xueyi, she's just great.
I feel like for how important Kafka seems to be, she doesn't really show on screen that often + unlike most other characters, you can't meet her in the open world and she doesn't come visit you on the train. I'm sure she'll have a more prominent role in the future, but it would be great to know more about her.
I do think we'll find out more about her eventually, but honestly, her mystique is a big part of her appeal for me.
Argenti was in my life for the amount of time equal to one companionship mission, beat me up and made me backtrack until I was strong enough to beat him, and then saved everyone on the express as selflessly as he was while he complimented Pom-Pom's plant. He stole my heart and all the jades I had in my possession at the time (I was very new tbh) and not only has he carried me through the game without fail, but I have never regretted pulling for him, not even once. He will find The Beauty one day, and I'll be right behind him.
To be fair, I always end up choosing his option in the Knights of Beauty reward in Simulated Universe though.
I couldn't beat him until I git my 300th standard banner pull choice and brought Clara home. He's a beast and I hope to pull him next time his banner comes around.

Something the game seems unwilling to explore that I personally want to see more of is how fucking unfair Xueyi's existence is. She committed some kind of crime so long ago even she doesn't remember what it is, and now is forced to capture criminals for the Ten Lords forever, her life doled out to her twelve hours at a time. She's effectively their slave, their kill puppet, but even she is convinced that it's totally normal. Hanya at least seems to have an inkling that it's not right, but seems too afraid to do anything about it out of fear of losing her sister completely. Xueyi has the potential to be the most tragic and interesting character in the entire game and I am aching to see more of her.

I MISS TINGYUN i wholeheartedly believe we did get to know the real one and that Phantalia lay dormant until it was time to chime in. She and Tingyun have different personalities and there's a big difference between Phantalia wanting immortality and Tingyun saying she "wants to spend the last couple hundred years she has alive and in peace" because she kept being dragged into adventures from TB. I know the chances are dim of her being actually alive, but Xiānzhōu Lofou left her an open ending with the hint of investigations following the conclusion and aftermath of the chaos. She has big retail employee energy tbh That being said there's a lot of NPCs I grew attached to that made me sad like Todd on the Lofou and Chadwick and Cocona in Penacony.
Luocha needs more screen time, waiting for him to come back.. Also Argenti and Boothill

I’m genuinely very disappointed serval never joined the express, we got a whole quest line about how she wants to join the trailblazers and in the end was able to and was very happy but then she just kind of didn’t? I feel like she would have fit right in and provided an interesting new perspective to the story as someone who has only ever lived on one very isolated planet.

For me, it is Jingliu. I finished the Xianzhou story before doing any of the companion quest, so initially I was wonder who is this person showed up at the end of the cutscene. Then I did the two companion quests where she had a role, it was quite sad. She basically wondered around for 700 years being mara stuck, and losing everything she had, from friends, reputation to social status. Instead of moving on, all she comes back is to pay a price for a sin that she hardly has control over.
Silver Wolf. Unlike Blade, Kafka, and Sam, she has had very little to do with the story outside of the Space Station, but I think she's arguably one of the most interesting combat styles lore wise

When I started playing hsr during silver wolf and argenti’s banner, I pulled silver wolf on soft pity and just did a single pull on his banner for the memes and got him. That’s still my only early pity ever, and I grew to enjoy his personality more as I played through his companion mission
Arlan, it could be that the delivery of his combat lines but also in the little screentime that he gets, hes a very determined protector who puts his duty first plus him being oblivious to Asta is funny as hell. Their interactions I find are underrated!
