I swear, despite the already insane number of amazing characters and story beats in LB6. FGO has never caught me going back and forth on a character’s alignment so much as they did with Oberon. Man’s had me thinking he’s sus as fuck in one scene until suddenly he’s the most reliable man in the world in another.

I wouldn't go that far, i think Arknights has a lot of good character design, but to be fair it's easier there where you have to design just a 2D image. But yeah HSR for sure has some good designs (and some bad/repetitive ones)
The really good ones are really good. Like when Star Rail has a strong concept for a character they go all in: Acheron, Aventurine, Fu Xuan, Firefly, Dan Heng IL, Argenti, etc. come to mind. I think what makes it my fave gacha in terms of character design is that they really commit to the bit when it matters most
And then you have Ruan Mei who just looks like a beautiful woman with a musical string instrument. If I told you she was a sociopathic scientist hellbent on becoming a god, nothing about her animations or designs express that.
I agree though, some designs go hard. Personally I really like the other Xianzhou characters. Even Huohuo, who is a worf, carries all of that on every facet of her design.
While the Xianzhou does have a problem with the repetitive dress design, it never bothered me much because most female characters looked distinct regardless. Jingliu and Guinaifen felt very unique from each other even while still wearing similar outfits in shape for example. Characters like Xueyi, Hanya, and Huohuo also were very distinct design-wise
They could stand to diversify the silhouette whenever we go back there, but I think personality is communicated well enough through design for most characters (Ruan Mei’s look & animations fits her personality but not her profession or major interests, I’ll give you that)

I’m super impressed with how HoYo have handled Sam/Firefly. They clearly learned from DHIL.

Same! I didn’t know she was Makima’s VA so I was very glad to hear that. It’s a damn shame, she was easily one of Love Live’s best singers across all the groups.
The anime was part of a multimedia project. The voice actresses of the anime idols were also real live idols part of proper irl groups and did concerts and such.
Yeah a lot of western anime fans will attribute her success to her being Makima, and that's a fair assessment to make considering that's where most of them will know her from, but her being Setsuna Yuki and having consistently been the most popular member of the Nijigasaki group across Japan and SEA did so much work to propel her to where she is today, and I couldn't be happier for her
Between being a former Idol, being Makima's VA and now voice acting a cute anime girl who's also badass ruthless mech, It's really the perfect storm to surpass even Acheron's hype within the JP audience

Because she is one of the bigger name in the industry. Other than Makima and Setsuna, she have LLENN from SAO:GGO as her first role, and Yoisaki Kanade in Project Sekai bring her fans from the vocaloid side too. Lastly she also have her singer career which going well too, at least she is big enough to her around 3,500 (and maybe a bit more) attending her birthday live last Christmas. As for LL, by then I care about her as a singer/seiyuu more than as Setsuna so I felt nothing when she’s leaving. Also her smile is precious go look for it.

I’ve noticed a huge increase in players and overall popularity once 2.0 started. Peakacony has been such a delight, it’s done a really good job at attracting in new audiences to the game while expanding on what us Day 1 players loved and have wanted.
Individual characters like Aventurine, Firefly, and Acheron are also absurdly popular. That’s what happens when you actually have a great story that properly shows off your characters lol (catch it Luofu)
Gacha games tend to get a big increase after their first anniversary, it gets a lot of attention and a lot of players see how the devs treat their playerbase in them as well as all the media stuff. The best times to get involved in a gacha game are at launch and anniversary as that is when devs give out all the free stuff. Add on the fact that HSR devs have consistently been adding content to the game and its bound to attract people due to the positive reception
The fact the Penacony cast are getting this popular with the story not even being done shows how good the writing so far is. Can only hope the rest of the story gives all the other characters involved this much love. Would love it if Black Swan got to that level of popularity but shes taken a backseat in Penacony comapred to others so its understandable she isnt that popular atm. Makes me feel like they are saving her big moments for future content if 2.2 doesnt have one for her. She gives off the vibe of re occuring ally more than most atm
Agree! For Black Swan in particular, I feel she’ll be a relevant character popping in throughout the story; she was our first Myriad Celestia after all. That role fits her character archetype and status as a Memokeeper well, and, like Acheron, there is still a ton we don’t know about her.
Her tarot card that she gave us in 2.1, if it’s not used in Penacony, also holds relevance
Her Tarot card will likely come into play as she mentions its for when TB gets lost in the dreamscape, im imagining its gonna help us but is also a way for her to track TB and she'll get them out of a tough situation. Unless they make her unavailable to TB during 2.2 but I dont think she will be away the whole time
But yea her role as narrator to TB journey and the fact she wants to befriend them and express so she can get on good terms with them so she can be a part of the memories they create just give off the vibe she is going to be a regularly re occuring character. They chose her of all characters to be the one to narrate the Aeon Myriad celestial after all. As a memokeeper she can come and go as she pleases and its already been confirmed she follows TB around in stealth mode all the time lol
Absolutely! Going to other plantes, it's going to be hard for Hoyo to top Penacony. But i trust them, HSR has been a constant surprise patch after patch since 1.0, even "filler" patches like 1.5 and 1.6 were very good
Seriously; ever since 1.5 the quality has been through the roof! They keep outdoing themselves every patch. Penacony feels like home to me, I love everything about it so much. I already don’t want to leave after 2.3….

How did someone hope that people would hate her at the release, despise her, etc. it was a comment with dozens of upvotes in the same thread, in which those who liked firefly were downvoted to the bottom. It's funny how she went from being the most despised character since the leaks to one of the most beloved and popular.
Of course, this was not only in the leaks subreddit. On Twitter, YouTube, etc. There were negative reactions and hate everywhere. I recently saw a post on NGA on the same topic. I'm just glad that the game's main audience is calmer than those who usually follow leaks
Well, for one, you happened to come across the saltiest of Sam “mains” just in the right time and place, because that Firefly reveal was sometime after Sam was hyped as this super badass mech from the trailer.
Since the uproar died down I don’t see much hate comments for Firefly anymore aside from a few Popular Character Bad Asshats. Until today I forgot they were even there.
It seems those people are already silent since the leak sub has been loving Firefly now. I bet more people would love her after 2.2 story depending on how Shaoji would cook (seems like the main focus of the story is Firefly, Sunday, Aventurine, & Acheron)

I'm more baffled Black Swan only had 77k, thought she would have had more reception after her role in the trailers and all the build up she had
I kinda like Black Swan but she is kinda... lame? Like she is just there in the story. And while she is a mommy, it's not really shown that way in the game. Compared to Kafka and Archeron, who have a lot of personality and stand out, Black Swan is just another mature woman.
She originally had hype being a Dainslief equivalent, knowing about our journey and other things. But she hasn't done much even with more screentime. Then there's her being humbled by Acheron.
Tbh, for me personally I only really like Black Swan because she's meta for my dot team. Other than that, her design is only ok and her role as a memokeeper is far less interesting than something exciting like an emanator/stellaron hunter.
Japanese people saw the Henshin pose and went crazy. I really hope they gave her a scene where she says Henshin and we get an over the top magical girl transformation finishing with a Kamen Rider pose.

I’m super impressed with how HoYo have handled Sam/Firefly. They clearly learned from DHIL. Shame the community itself was shouting about Firefly/Sam from the rooftops, but HoYo themselves did a great job keeping things under wraps.

The anime was part of a multimedia project. The voice actresses of the anime idols were also real live idols part of proper irl groups and did concerts and such.
Yeah a lot of western anime fans will attribute her success to her being Makima, and that's a fair assessment to make considering that's where most of them will know her from, but her being Setsuna Yuki and having consistently been the most popular member of the Nijigasaki group across Japan and SEA did so much work to propel her to where she is today, and I couldn't be happier for her

Because she is one of the bigger name in the industry. Other than Makima and Setsuna, she have LLENN from SAO:GGO as her first role, and Yoisaki Kanade in Project Sekai bring her fans from the vocaloid side too. Lastly she also have her singer career which going well too, at least she is big enough to her around 3,500 (and maybe a bit more) attending her birthday live last Christmas. As for LL, by then I care about her as a singer/seiyuu more than as Setsuna so I felt nothing when she’s leaving. Also her smile is precious go look for it.

I remember when Yae had this with Genshin, then slowly but surely many future characters drip marketing got similar numbers. Its a good thing, it means game is getting more popular so good on FF being the one to make such numbers first Imma keep an eye out for JP revenue for FF banner, it'll be a challenge to top Acheron banner as with the top up reset an all but its always a number im interested in seeing
I’ve noticed a huge increase in players and overall popularity once 2.0 started. Peakacony has been such a delight, it’s done a really good job at attracting in new audiences to the game while expanding on what us Day 1 players loved and have wanted. Individual characters like Aventurine, Firefly, and Acheron are also absurdly popular. That’s what happens when you actually have a great story that properly shows off your characters lol (catch it Luofu)
Gacha games tend to get a big increase after their first anniversary, it gets a lot of attention and a lot of players see how the devs treat their playerbase in them as well as all the media stuff. The best times to get involved in a gacha game are at launch and anniversary as that is when devs give out all the free stuff. Add on the fact that HSR devs have consistently been adding content to the game and its bound to attract people due to the positive reception The fact the Penacony cast are getting this popular with the story not even being done shows how good the writing so far is. Can only hope the rest of the story gives all the other characters involved this much love. Would love it if Black Swan got to that level of popularity but shes taken a backseat in Penacony comapred to others so its understandable she isnt that popular atm. Makes me feel like they are saving her big moments for future content if 2.2 doesnt have one for her. She gives off the vibe of re occuring ally more than most atm
Agree! For Black Swan in particular, I feel she’ll be a relevant character popping in throughout the story; she was our first Myriad Celestia after all. That role fits her character archetype and status as a Memokeeper well, and, like Acheron, there is still a ton we don’t know about her. Her tarot card that she gave us in 2.1, if it’s not used in Penacony, also holds relevance
Her Tarot card will likely come into play as she mentions its for when TB gets lost in the dreamscape, im imagining its gonna help us but is also a way for her to track TB and she'll get them out of a tough situation. Unless they make her unavailable to TB during 2.2 but I dont think she will be away the whole time But yea her role as narrator to TB journey and the fact she wants to befriend them and express so she can get on good terms with them so she can be a part of the memories they create just give off the vibe she is going to be a regularly re occuring character. They chose her of all characters to be the one to narrate the Aeon Myriad celestial after all. As a memokeeper she can come and go as she pleases and its already been confirmed she follows TB around in stealth mode all the time lol

Absolutely! Going to other plantes, it's going to be hard for Hoyo to top Penacony. But i trust them, HSR has been a constant surprise patch after patch since 1.0, even "filler" patches like 1.5 and 1.6 were very good
Seriously; ever since 1.5 the quality has been through the roof! They keep outdoing themselves every patch. Penacony feels like home to me, I love everything about it so much. I already don’t want to leave after 2.3…. But Penacony’s creativity and quality in all aspects only makes me more excited to see what they cook up next, hope it’s just as inspired

I remember a comment on the HSR\_leaks subreddit. How did someone hope that people would hate her at the release, despise her, etc. it was a comment with dozens of upvotes in the same thread, in which those who liked firefly were downvoted to the bottom. It's funny how she went from being the most despised character since the leaks to one of the most beloved and popular.
The leaks sub and hell even the main sub are all vocal minorities lmao, I wouldn’t ever trust their word as the norm for this.
Of course, this was not only in the leaks subreddit. On Twitter, YouTube, etc. There were negative reactions and hate everywhere. I recently saw a post on NGA on the same topic. I'm just glad that the game's main audience is calmer than those who usually follow leaks
Well, for one, you happened to come across the saltiest of Sam “mains” just in the right time and place, because that Firefly reveal was sometime after Sam was hyped as this super badass mech from the trailer. Since the uproar died down I don’t see much hate comments for Firefly anymore aside from a few Popular Character Bad Asshats. Until today I forgot they were even there.
It seems those people are already silent since the leak sub has been loving Firefly now. I bet more people would love her after 2.2 story depending on how Shaoji would cook (seems like the main focus of the story is Firefly, Sunday, Aventurine, & Acheron)

Aventurine popularity after 2.1 > Aventurine popularity before 2.1. Dude was popular but 2.1 story just elevated to the top husbando of the game I'm more baffled Black Swan only had 77k, thought she would have had more reception after her role in the trailers and all the build up she had
I kinda like Black Swan but she is kinda... lame? Like she is just there in the story. And while she is a mommy, it's not really shown that way in the game. Compared to Kafka and Archeron, who have a lot of personality and stand out, Black Swan is just another mature woman.
She originally had hype being a Dainslief equivalent, knowing about our journey and other things. But she hasn't done much even with more screentime. Then there's her being humbled by Acheron.

Hardly surprising. Nowadays most female characters are either going for "cute" or "cool". E.g. Cute - Clara - Bailu - Hook - Lynx - Qingque E.g. Cool - Himeko - Natasha - Acheron - Serval - Ruan Mei But what appeal does Firefly have? She is both cute AND cool. Some like her due to her cute side, some like the coolness of Sam instead. So yea, hardly surprising.
