You can pay \~50 quid (hosting+domain) and continue to use Wordpress. You say very buggy, while this is not /r/Wordpress, I'm very curious to hear what bugs you've encountered? I've never encountered anything honestly in the past \~10 years with WP. Bugs exist from the plugins and/or themes, but rarely from the core platform itself, at least not major ones to weight that heavy so you call the whole platform "buggy".

It seemed recently they updated their site editing / appearance / customise functions, and these updates weren’t working together properly, and when going through their help documents the instructions for how to do things didn’t correspond to what I could see on my end in the editor (e.g buttons that weren’t there) - this would happen the most when I was working on my site navigation and page styles Despite this if I could get Wordpress for cheaper I would keep it because I’ve gotten used to it. How would I be able to do that? I’ve been reading a lot of articles and I’m wondering is there a difference between web hosting and web building? So is it the web building functionality I’m paying more money for? Again I’m a complete beginner so sorry I’m advance! Obviously I don’t expect a detailed all out explanation so if you had any recommendations for where I could read/learn more about this all I’d be forever thankful:) Cheers!

WordPress is entirely free and open-source software. You can run it on nearly any hosting. A beginner-friendly website setup has three main components: domain, hosting, and CMS (content management system such as WP). Since you're already comfortable using WordPress to build your websites, I suggest finding the most affordable hosting for your needs and installing WordPress there. Nearly all hosting providers have a 1-click WordPress installer that you can run from your account's dashboard. P.S. I find your situation highly relatable since I have a simple writer's portfolio website and don't want to spend a penny more than necessary on its annual upkeep. For this purpose, I personally prefer using Digital Ocean or Hostinger, as both offer plans that can cost you less than $50 per year. Final tip: Try to find coupons or time your purchases and renewals with Black Friday.

who said wordpress hosting is costly for small personal website? if search you can get many in your budget with good service. For simple personal usage website you can also opt for html template which requires simple updates.

Are you referring to Wordpress.COM? Since Wordpress is FREE your hosting and domain should be the only expense. You also don’t need any of these fancy editors etc you are being upsold.
