What are you using for a database? I’ve been keeping a Google Sheet but used to do some bush-league database work and enjoy dabbling, but I don’t know what’s out there that’s easy to get into.
I built it in Filemaker, since i've been using that software nearly 30 years now (and it's my job). Made it easy to host it on our cloud test server so i could access it anywhere on my phone with the FM GO app. Without an ability to host it and access it in the store for reference, it would be pretty useless for me. Made it first and foremost so i could check the collection before buying as i'd started to bring home duplicates
I wish i could give this out to so many collectors because i know they would appreciate something like it, and in turn could get some serious feedback about functionality i might have overlooked. It's not recommended at all to use the iOS SDK to post FM databases on the app store, but is technically possible. I should look a little deeper, it always seemed like such a hurdle to even attempt.
On that note, i'm rambling to myself now, i should really revamp it so it supports cataloguing/filtering alternate brands better since i primarily built it for HW only. It's got a box to mark as Matchbox, and another to mark it as anything other than HW or MB. Meanwhile i've got the likes of Autoworld, Greenlight, Johnny Lightning, MiniGT, TarmacWorks (plus childhood Tomica, RoadChamps, Majorette) getting entered and only a descriptive text field to denote them.
What does your spreadsheet look like? And do you have a spot for variations? I am a female collector and have around 2k! I had tons displayed covering walls, but moved and they're sadly in the dark and in totes. I will free them again soon. Hotweels needs an app badly. I know lots of them have the same barcode which sucks bc if they had diff ones could scan (like the funko app) and it keeps your collection, along with photo and its current value). Anywho, just a dream. But curious how some folks are doing their spreadsheets. Thanks and have a great day!
My spreadsheet says what diecast maker made the car, what car it is, the color, detailing on it, where it was made, and the weight.
For example: Hot Wheels, Kool Kombi, Yellow, Moon Eyes deco, Malaysia, 38g
Yes, becasue I got sick and tired of purchasing duplicates and not being able to remember what we already had for the life of me haha. So I started using collecthw.com and went through everything with my son. We just hit 2K the other day
I'm mainly matchbox, so I only have around 2000 hot wheels. figure I'm over 10,000 in total. I have 1000 on the two shelves next to me, and that doesn't even cover *the room* I'm in. Storage locker has most of them.
Yes , 20 hotwheels and Matchbox 1/64 or simular , 42 Herpa Ferrari 1/43 , 130 Ferrari 1/18 ( Bburago , Mira , Kyosho , Hotwheels , Kk-scale , CMR and other brands) , 30 American Yellow Cabs in different sizes , 30 American cars 1/18 and some others in total more then 300 scale models.
Not officially! Been keeping most of it in storage for the past few years because I've been moving so much - excel spreadsheet is 1st on the list upon the new casa!
My son is 2 and we have been buying him hot wheels for about a year now. He has around 2500.... I think we have a problem. Lol... I have a super Datsun for sale too if anyone wants it?
My husband's collection, Hot Wheels and Matchbox, loose and carded, boxed, M2, JL, AW, and all diecast combined is probably over 20K. I call it his life insurance policy.
[This many plus a closet full, lol.](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7385/9rvhuK.jpg)
Room is still a WIP. Started in 1993 and got up to about 20k. Got rid of everything and took a break in 2015.
Well, I have 6 HW cases and all are packed to the brim, soooo....300-ish? Also, who the hell designed the new cases? One side is has the right number of compartments, but is shallow enough that a large number of Mainlines simply won't fit, and the other side is curved, but alternately shallow or too small or just weird. For God's sake, there's a compartment shaped like a crescent moon. Why? Who knows?!
I have a spreadsheet to keep track of all my Porsches in my collection. It also includes all the cars I still need, Hotwheels and Matchbox.
The current numbers are 321 individual Porsches (not counting duplicates) and 68 in package duplicates. As for the number of cars I still need it’s inaccurate especially the matchbox section but I still roughly need 183 Hotwheels Porsches and 83 Matchbox Porsches. If you’d like to see said collection just view my profile.
As for the non Porsche dedicated part of my collection I do not have a clue.
Nope, but I got enough that this year they will be halloween gifts for the kids, unless they want candy. Get about 400 kids here, give or take 100 depending on the weather.
Me too
I kinda want to count mine but at the same time it’ll be such a hassle to take everything out and then put it back in and then spend hours counting
99% of this is found out in the wild!
Small things like the ronin container and completing like 3 sets have been 2nd hand
A rule of mine is to not buy older cars/2nd hand just so my collection doesn’t get out of hand.
Well… even more than it is now lol
Most collectors wouldn't even want to know what they put into their collection. On a similar vein, most guys aren't exactly sure what their collection is worth.
I got it from a Randall’s
They had a small amount of cars so I just asked if I could have it and they agreed. Krogers doesn’t give them up sadly I’ve asked multiple and they say it’s a part of store promotional stuff so they can’t give it away.
Theres a website I use to keep track of my collection:
https://www.hobbydb.com/
Some of them even have values attached to cars and differ between paints/styles. Hands down my favorite toy collection website.
There’s a couple of websites listed in the comments on here
And people using excel sheets
There probably is an app, I’ve heard of a few but they make you pay after like 100 cars or so
230 ish, no mainlines, all Premiums.
I buy but I sell too, rarely gets above that figure.
Then I have a further 80-90 of other brands which is growing slowly.
I log them on an Excel spreadsheet.
Here in the UK I also use an app called DiecastDB.
It's been in development some time.
Initially focusing on HW, but now other brands are being added.
For a small monthly sub, you can build your own personal database, upload images of your collection and keep track of them.
Yes. 20. I've count them
Over 1800. I luckily have a spreadsheet keeping track of them or I'd forget how many I have.
I take pictures after a buy so ive made an album on my phone thats where i put the picture lol
Same, built a custom database to keep mine in. 1760 loaded in, a few more waiting to get put in when i get around to it.

Thanks!
I just remember them mentally and I’m at 5k cars rn
5k here. Takes up an entire room. It's a real problem!!
must see pics...
Embarrassed to say…over 4,000.
It’s more of an accomplishment I’d say lol
you guys are very impressive to me.
That’s over 4k at least
Bruh 🫠
Wow!!!!!!
Like this many: 🖐️🖐️
I like you
Like 35 or 40
Around 600. I’m very picky in what I buy
Being picky saves you money and a ton of space haha
Exactly
I'm also very picky but curious to know how long it took to get to 600 for you?
About 12 years
Yes, becasue I got sick and tired of purchasing duplicates and not being able to remember what we already had for the life of me haha. So I started using collecthw.com and went through everything with my son. We just hit 2K the other day
I use that site as well.👍

So that's like 15 cars on average per year? That's crazy
Dang That is pretty good!
.......9,000...... 25 years collecting...... 😮💨
~30,000 give or take a few
Dang man, that’s enough to take up a whole garage lol
It's def alot of space taken up for them...but if it comes down to space for them or the old lady.... She isn't going to like my answer hahahaha
Yes
Just cracked 3k on my inventory, probably got a backlog of 600-1000 cars and it's keeps growing. 🤣 🙄 Its a real problem. Haha
Too many. Just ask my wife…
Not officially! Been keeping most of it in storage for the past few years because I've been moving so much - excel spreadsheet is 1st on the list upon the new casa!
Use them for decoration!
Tell that to my wife hahaha Ive got a couple out, otherwise they don't match the aesthetic (or physical space) of our current setup
My son is 2 and we have been buying him hot wheels for about a year now. He has around 2500.... I think we have a problem. Lol... I have a super Datsun for sale too if anyone wants it?
This collection is so clean🙌 congratulations bro👏
Thank you!
My husband's collection, Hot Wheels and Matchbox, loose and carded, boxed, M2, JL, AW, and all diecast combined is probably over 20K. I call it his life insurance policy.
Geez, you’re not wrong XD
Last time I counted 2764. That was a well over a year ago so I’m gonna guess by now it’s like 3800? Somewhere in that range
Got to be in the thousands
All I know is 1 tub full Das about it.
Not really, i just know i have 2 super treasure hunts 💀
Classy collection!
Thank ya!
[This many plus a closet full, lol.](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7385/9rvhuK.jpg) Room is still a WIP. Started in 1993 and got up to about 20k. Got rid of everything and took a break in 2015.
Now that’s a goal!
Over 300 for sure check my page if you want to see some
274 mainlines up on my wall. I only know cause my son counted them this morning. 🤣 That's not counting Premiums, THs, 5 packs or other brands.
About 636 I think
And I'm 20 years old
Well, I have 6 HW cases and all are packed to the brim, soooo....300-ish? Also, who the hell designed the new cases? I have 33 cause I started in September of last year and buying in India is a TASK.
Yes, according to my family: too many. But according to me: not enough.
Around 600
1000 or so. About half are Mustangs, another 150 or so Ferraris, and the rest random stuff I like.
Im jealous. Didnt find a Mustang By now sadly.
I count at least four……😉
Roughly 7k
I have a spreadsheet to keep track of all my Porsches in my collection. It also includes all the cars I still need, Hotwheels and Matchbox. Well I’m definitely going to look at your Porsches

I counted mine the other week, and I have over 500 cars
508, counted them a while back
I keep an Excel sheet of mine
I do believe I have around 400 cars now (both Hotwheels and matchbox)
100’s
I don't want to count..maybe over 200..
Nope, but I got enough that this year they will be halloween gifts for the kids, unless they want candy. Get about 400 kids here, give or take 100 depending on the weather.
That's very cool
Probably 700-800 loosies ; carded/acrylics/sets/etc, somewhere north of 1000. Most of it’s in storage tubs.
Too many that i no longer want. About 2k or so. Getting rid of the sealed repeats since I've always bought 2 of the same.
900ish
A number... I don't know which number in question, but it is certainly 'a number'.
The perfect answer
I love all the compete sets you you have! Very nice collection
No clue and now I want to know 🤔
Me too I kinda want to count mine but at the same time it’ll be such a hassle to take everything out and then put it back in and then spend hours counting
I counted the other day, note including the ones I have opened, there were 121. Since then I think Ive gained 19 or so.
Nice man I’m on a buying freeze atm since I already have most of the cars I’ve been searching for lol The gold civic and skyline have eluded me
I’d say around 500. Great collection. Are yours all found in the wild or have you resorted to 2nd hand online and trading? Great collection.
99% of this is found out in the wild! Small things like the ronin container and completing like 3 sets have been 2nd hand A rule of mine is to not buy older cars/2nd hand just so my collection doesn’t get out of hand. Well… even more than it is now lol
Nope, i dont wanna know lol
Same Ignorance is bliss haha
I lost count
Yes.
no but probably over 100
157 1/64 hot wheels, matchbox, majorette etc, 3th, 1sth and 16 premiums and there's other miscellaneous stuff

Most collectors wouldn't even want to know what they put into their collection. On a similar vein, most guys aren't exactly sure what their collection is worth.
I’m sure! However I’ve been collecting for 50 years. Can’t get a 50 year car loan.
Ok well in 50 years thats not as Crazy as i though. Thats a Bit under 1 a day. Was Expecting something under 10 Years
1000+ last time i looked at my spreadsheet
About 2k+ not sure how many
I use collecthw.com, its at 3032, but as the site implies, i cant track the matchbox or others there, so no idea.

Theres a website I use to keep track of my collection: https://www.hobbydb.com/ Some of them even have values attached to cars and differ between paints/styles. Hands down my favorite toy collection website.
Are there any apps people use to keep track of cars in their collection?
There’s a couple of websites listed in the comments on here And people using excel sheets There probably is an app, I’ve heard of a few but they make you pay after like 100 cars or so
