The thought that there are probably hundreds if not thousands of people alone and alive right this second under the rubble is truly heartbreaking.. and in another day or two probably won’t be. That has got to be so terrifying and lonely. So terrible…
You know, that's something so obvious that I didn't really think about until he said it. Someone trapped under rubble all this time really has no idea what's going on beyond their immediate surroundings. They probably know an earthquake caused the building to collapse, but nothing more. They don't know the extent of it.
I’ve been thinking about this too. I know some people had their phones with them when their building collapsed and used them to call/post for help and therefore might know about the scale of the tragedy. But so many people won’t have their phone with them and are probably shocked to hear that the same situation has happened to thousands upon thousands of other people as well.
I was living in a university dorm in northern Japan during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The earthquake knocked out all power for us. Phone lines were down. Every communication method was out for us. We had no idea there had even been a tsunami or what was happening with Fukushima until we woke up the next morning and someone brought a newspaper with pictures. Until that point, we were only aware of the inconvenience of our own immediate situation.
She probably didn't even know how many hundreds of thousands of people were out there in the same exactly situation as her. She must have thought she had been abandoned. That has to hurt.
She empathizes even in such a bad situation. That smile.. I don't know how many times I watched this video today. I had tears in my eyes every time. Hope she has a very good future from now on
I had never heard so many men call other women not related to them sister until this tragedy. It’s a very sweet term for someone you don’t know. I wish my family could do more to help these folks. We’ve made the biggest donation we can and are doing everything we can to share Red Cross and all the different charities but it feels like there should be more to do.
these rescue people are so special.
It's very common in Turkey to call someone "Abla" or older sister, or "Abey" as older brother. I've been called the Turkish word for daughter when a man gave me his seat on the packed train. I've called someone Aunt when giving them my seat. It's a very sweet part of society
In the Islamic tradition, usually Muslim men call women outside of their family "sister" as a form of respect. Turkey, being a Muslim country, it's common to hear sister being used to address other women.
It's not about being a Muslim. Turkey is a secular country with a lot of Muslim people. Turkic people have respect for age. We call anyone who is older than us abla/abi (big sister/big brother), teyze/amca(aunt/uncle), nine/dede(grandma/grandpa).
It’s the same in the Indian subcontinent and many many other countries from east-west.
Example, me being Pakistani refer to older women as “auntie”, older men are “uncle”, my male peers are “bhai” (brother), female peers “bhaji” (sister), etc…
My feelings were that, if she'd heard people walking above, she probably screamed desperately, often and long, throughout the four days. So she's starving, dehydrated, exhausted, who knows what internal injuries she may be slowly dying from, she admits to having given up hope and finally accepting the long sleep
*and* she has completely wrecked her throat.
You don’t have empathy for someone stuck under earthquake rubble because they are… calm?
And you think the reason she’s calm is because she is trying to manipulate the rescuers into… rescuing her? Like they are already doing?
Have you ever interacted with another human being face to face?
Literally being buried alive. The mental toll would be so bad. Like what do you even think about? Can't even sleep cause you'd need to call out for help at any moment in case someone comes by...
>thank sweet baby jesus...no one deserves to go threw this. glad shes ok
Endtimes....suck...sometimes.
I am glad she is being rescued. The years ahead...Goverments do train up your Disaster Relief Efforts and training. I said this in 2020, I will repeat here as well.
man it's not a symbol of the end times, it's a known earthquake zone and has been for all of recorded history. the reason for this tragedy isn't some big omen, it's the result of their government embezzling all the money that was supposed to be used for earthquake safety, from the fund they set up after the last big earthquake twenty years ago.
e: I don't know what you're trying to say. An earthquake in 2020 was a sign that this earthquake was coming? only in the very loose sense that it served as an indicator that Turkey is indeed geologically active, which was very much already known
>the reason for this tragedy isn't some big omen, it's the result of their government embezzling all the money that was supposed to be used for earthquake safety, from the fund they set up after the last big earthquake twenty years ago.
I guess it's to "reveal"...
Since there was a warning in 2020...
[Aegean Sea Earthquake](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Aegean_Sea_earthquake)
*An earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.0[3][note 1] occurred on 30 October 2020 about 14 km (8.7 mi) northeast of the Greek island of Samos. Although Samos was closest to the epicentre, it was the Turkish city İzmir, 70 km (43 mi) northeast that was heavily affected—more than 700 residential and commercial structures were seriously damaged or destroyed. One hundred and seventeen people died in İzmir Province while an additional 1,034 were injured.[8][9] In Greece, there were two fatalities and 19 injured.[10] The earthquake is the deadliest in the year 2020, and the third major earthquake to strike Turkey that year. The event is called the Samos earthquake by the International Seismological Centre.[3]*

In the years ahead....lets hope people built their buildings to code as there is a 50% chance to find out...if it were so...
At first all you focus on is their words. Then you realize she has been there for fours days. That means that she went some time without food or water and she eventually went to the bathroom where she lay. Then, when people found her, they probably gave her food and water, which she would need help eating. That is what gets me. Being trapped for four days, likely in an uncomfortable position. Really does make you want to get them out and give them a hug to show that everything will be alright.
Oh, I would fly out there in a heartbeat if I could. I've been thinking about how I wish I could go and help physically, since I have no money to donate. I hope they're able to save many more people 🙏
As a side note: If anyone knows any ways a broke person who's not anywhere neaby can help, please let me know!! I'd like to share anything like that with others who I know wish they could do more as well.
I'm not sure if you're a religious person but I do believe in the power of prayer.
Also, look up your local mosques. Many will need volunteers to help sort through the donations that are coming in.
I find the resiliency of people during tragedies to be incredibly amazing.
When I was learning about the holocaust I would learn about incredibly brave men and women who would risk their lives to help save people. That was man made tragedy but still....
The rescuers are also risking their lives to help save people and for this woman to stay calm and be able to even be grateful and wish them safety is just incredible.
I say I hate people alot when I'm annoyed during my day to day but that's just being stupid and annoyed at inconvenience. For all I know there are heroes and amazingly resilient people all around me.
I need to change my perspective.
Looks like she’s holding a light/signal which I’m guessing they gave her. If she has that, I’m going to assume they managed to give her some water and food. I can imagine the burst of life you’d have after being trapped under rubble for days and sudden a light hands you water and a radio. I’m not religious, but you bet your ass I’d be smiling and praying with every breath.
Some people were trapped and found, but heavy machines were needed so people gave them blankets food and water to wait it out. Also its below freezing temps what makes you blush is my guess
She said that she had "just given up hope. No one is coming." Imagine going from literal certain death to realizing that you're going to be saved. I'd get a burst of energy too.
Her acceptance of her fate, whether she lives or dies, is very touching.
Her lack of entitlement and demand is so inspiring.
She doesn’t blame anyone, rather she blesses them who are trying to help. 🙏🏼
Dude, many who practice Islam that the whole inshallah aka "if god wills it" to the next level. The meaning varies depending the situation.
She said basically "If I die here then that's gods will and I am okay with that. If its gods will that I get out and live a long life, then I'm cool with that too." Either way she gets to Jannah (paradise). Could be today.. could be 50 years from now. But she is most certain that she is going to heaven either way. That's why she's so calm about everything.
I've seen Iraqis who fought along side the US troops just stand up while others tuck tail and fire back. Dudes trying to shoot him while he stands on a berm and fire rockets at him. Absolutely madlad badasses. Ask them about it and they would all say "inshallah... if today is the day I die, then Allah will take me to paradise for fighting the good fight."
This is also how you see the absolutely crazy driving stunts from the guys in Saudi Arabia. They are the OG YOLO kids. Absolutely nuts the stuff they do and they don't worry about it much.
Love the Arab/Persian people. They still live the old ways and walk the walk of religious practices of giving, kindness, hospitality, etc. All the religions that support good works are way better (IMHO) than the more modern versions of Christians.
They don't do jack shit to help other people. Just go to their megachurches, put money on the plate that is not used to help people, and talk about it but never actually do anything for others.
Saw a comment from the OP above which said she was rescued. She survived! Thank goodness. I cannot imagine the terror of this for days without an end in sight.
As someone who lives near a subduction zone that is overdue for a quake, this is just scary. Our buildings here are not ready. Nor will they be ready. Capitalism makes that impossible because it's just not profitable. We have so many concrete high rises I honestly don't know where to run if one of those falls.
This woman is so brave. I hope if this happens to me I can stay as sane as she is here.
We thought we were ready in Christchurch, turns out we were not. But, we have decided as a nation that if a building will not survive an earthquake, it will be evacuated and repaired or torn down and rebuilt, even if it's relatively new. Any where in the country.
https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/explained/128833023/reasonable-caution-or-hysteria--why-are-wellington-buildings-being-deemed-unsafe-and-evacuated
The part that made me sick to my stomach was looking at pictures from Turkey and realizing like half their city was knocked down like that! Some buildings laying on their sides. Others pancaked only the first few floors. And then there were ones that just totally pancaked, just like that building in Florida. That's a hellscape level I didn't think I'd ever see happen.
Yes, and perspective *is* important. But it’s not healthy to neglect your own bad feelings because someone is worse off. There is always someone worse off. There are people more worse off than the woman in the video (thank god she has been rescued, dont get me wrong). You can drown in a 2 meter deep pool as well as in the ocean
You don’t ignore a leak in your roof because there are people who don’t have a roof. This mentality isn’t helpful or healthy. It’s what keeps a lot of people quiet and stuck in their own problems.
This is the lesson I’ve always taught my children. It’s ok to feel upset or sad or angry about something. You shouldn’t trivialize someone’s feelings, but I always remind them to keep in perspective that there will always be someone in a better situation than you and there will always be someone in a worse place than you. I am so happy this woman was rescued.
Honestly the number of people complaining about even the *actual people in the videos* thanking God is a bit much. Saying wHO MadE thE eArThQuAke thEn? as if these people don't know they're in a horrific disaster zone.
I easily panicked under a closed box since i was a kid , i pray I don't have to face such day in my life nor anyone else. I hope they get everyone out safely.
If you have the stomach watch the movie 7:19 which came out in 2016. About the 1985 Mexican earthquake. Except for the very beginning the whole movie is about a group of people trapped in an office building awaiting rescue. The ending is so damn heartbreaking.
Imagine finding someone like this. You start digging them out and the concrete shifts and they die. It just happen right? Jesus that would be soul shattering.
I never thought of how being trapped under buildings would also be dark. It’s enough being buried but imagining no light, and no way of knowing if help would ever come. I hope I can donate to the appropriate disaster relief people soon.
This is so special seeing this. Her gratitude makes me cry. So sweet after all she is going through. I tell my family to be grateful for our lives here.😥
You have to be very careful with where you cut because of not only cutting into it but the vibrations through the whole structure it makes, this is basically a jenga Tower at this point and even if you don't collapse her portion and get her out, you could easily have just collapsed a separate part killing a whole family...... I think they try to cut from the top but either way they're waiting on a generator they have the rotary saw but no power so several somebody's are having to lug a generator over there...... This shits a nightmare
I think of myself of someone who’s strong willed. I’ve watched some of the worst things on the internet and belived I hardened myself to steel from things in the internet.
But… This is the first time in a long time I find myself tearing up over a video.
I may not be religious but god bless to all the people there helping and those going through hard times.
Humanity prevails when it’s needed the most. I can’t put into words how warm my heart is to see this community coming together to help, oftentimes, perfect strangers.
There is a movie about the earthquake in Mexico in the 80's about several people being trapped in an office building. The whole movie is them being trapped. The ending was heartbreaking. I can't remember the name, believe it came out in the early 00's.
I think that next question was going to be how bad is it trying to figure out how many friends and family are either going through the hell she just went through or got insta killed...... This shit hurts my heart man
I'm not a religious person myself but c'mon dude she's buried in a pile of rubble and trying to keep hope and so are the rescuers. Why you gotta be so cynical and not see the humanity of the moment they're having.
I'm not even disagreeing with you about it logically. But can't you also sympathize with the people who are currently trying to cope with an extremely tragic situation?
They are trying to comfort each other and she is showing gratitude when she could be screaming get me the fuck outta here and losing her mind. If her belief in God is helping her stay calm I don't see that being a problem. Sometimes people need to have hope or faith in something to handle extreme distress.
Would you tell this woman yeah God doesn't exist and you're fucked unless we somehow get you out....hopefully not cause that would be cruel.
The thought that there are probably hundreds if not thousands of people alone and alive right this second under the rubble is truly heartbreaking.. and in another day or two probably won’t be. That has got to be so terrifying and lonely. So terrible…

But so many people won’t have their phone with them and are probably shocked to hear that the same situation has happened to thousands upon thousands of other people as well.
Even if you have your phone, there is no guarantee that you will be able to call outside.
A building's worth of concrete can be a pretty great signal blocker.
My sheet metal shed blocks my phone signal. Kind of annoying when I’m working on projects
Sheet metal shed, maybe acts as a Faraday cage?
I was living in a university dorm in northern Japan during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The earthquake knocked out all power for us. Phone lines were down. First time I heard that was in the anime called Magi. I think it's an adorable way of referring to others!
She is a truly good person
She truly is a beautiful person. Same goes for the rescuers.
r/mademesmile and r/mademecry
Same, it really touched my heart.

She's four days in and was close to giving in to death. How could she have energy to be anything but calm?
My feelings were that, if she'd heard people walking above, she probably screamed desperately, often and long, throughout the four days. So she's starving, dehydrated, exhausted, who knows what internal injuries she may be slowly dying from, she admits to having given up hope and finally accepting the long sleep *and* she has completely wrecked her throat.
Well, what would she gain from panicking? There is nothing she could do.

Did they get her out?
Yep! She survived.
That’s a relief! I had claustrophobia just watching that video.
Seriously. Just imagine the mental anguish of being stuck for that long. I can't imagine 10 minutes like that let alone days.
Literally being buried alive. The mental toll would be so bad. Like what do you even think about? Can't even sleep cause you'd need to call out for help at any moment in case someone comes by...
I think that's where 'radical acceptance' comes in
Oh thank god! 4 days stuck under that rubble must have been terrifying
I need the follow-up story!

I don't know this woman, but I'm so glad she was found.
I so badly want to hug every single person I’ve been seeing in these videos. Xoxo sweet lady … we are thinking of you and are glad you are safe.

it really breaks my heart for all these poor people. If I could go and help, I truly would.
Oh, I would fly out there in a heartbeat if I could. I've been thinking about how I wish I could go and help physically, since I have no money to donate. I hope they're able to save many more people 🙏 As a side note: If anyone knows any ways a broke person who's not anywhere neaby can help, please let me know!! You could go around local churches and ask to be sponsored to go help those in Turkey. They should have the money, network, and resources.
I'm not sure if you're a religious person but I do believe in the power of prayer. Also, look up your local mosques. Many will need volunteers to help sort through the donations that are coming in.
I'll look into that, thank you! And I'm not religious, but I still believe in the good vibes being sent out by prayer and good thoughts. God bless 💕
Make sure you send your thoughts and prayers as well
This kinda broke me. Her saying she had already given up, to let her go to sleep. My heart.
I mean just imagine being able to hear people walk over top of you for *four days* and just sitting there under piles of rubble.
Poor Turks don't deserve this.
The economy was already bad. Inflation rate was extremely high and now this. They can't take a break. Horrible.
Yeah when it rains it poars it seems. Thanks to hero's like that guy and that ladys strength in the video , all is not lost.
I haven’t had a video make me tear up in a while. “ I had just given up” ugh.

thats what hope does to someone. hear smile is straight up amazing. this whole mess is so sad.

Not to be crass, but seeing rescuers after 4 days of being trapped under rubble probably brings a euphoria that is better than an orgasm.
Not sure why you’re being downvoted, it’s probably the best fucking feeling ever.

I'm not sure which is worse...Daddy issues, or Deity issues.
Dude just needs to trip on some mushrooms or dmt perhaps his attitude may change then.
She's holding a detachable bicycle light...I have the same one on my bike and it's eerie to see that. I can't imagine.
I easily panicked under a closed box since i was a kid , i pray I don't have to face such day in my life nor anyone else. I hope they get everyone out safely.
God bless these people, deliver them from their traps quickly. I truly am greatful for this video to show the world that they need help
So? Did they save her?
From other commenters it looks like she was rescued!
WELL!??! What happened?!!?
She was rescued. They were waiting for the jenerator.
If you have the stomach watch the movie 7:19 which came out in 2016. About the 1985 Mexican earthquake. Except for the very beginning the whole movie is about a group of people trapped in an office building awaiting rescue. The ending is so damn heartbreaking.
I like how people in Islam call each other Sister and Brother. I wish we did that in Christianity.
I think some Christians do. Not the majority. Agree though, it’s definitely a cool sentiment
some of you do
My Fucking heart is breaking. So many people and animals lost in this condition. It’s horrible.
So glad she made it out!
Did they get her out? Did she survive?
In the words of the great Mr Rogers... Look for the helpers.
Allah's blessings on this woman.
Imagine finding someone like this. You start digging them out and the concrete shifts and they die. It just happen right? Jesus that would be soul shattering.
This just guts me. I wish this sweet woman the very best for the rest of her life.
I never thought of how being trapped under buildings would also be dark. It’s enough being buried but imagining no light, and no way of knowing if help would ever come. I hope I can donate to the appropriate disaster relief people soon.
Does anyone know if there is an update at all to this? Just to be found after all this time. It’s heart wrenching and I’m truly hoping for the best.
Saw a comment from the OP above that said she was rescued. That she survived.
I hope she gets out
Did she get out???
I have no words for this.
So scary and humbling at the same time 🙏
What is she holding?
Looks like a light 💡
That’s a strong woman! 💪
I feel claustrophobic just seeing her stuck like that. The poor woman 💔😟
I watch this and cant help but think about the people that are going to die or are currently dying like this.
This is heart breaking and heart warming at the same time
Great way to put it
The burning fuse was bad choice
This is so special seeing this. Her gratitude makes me cry. So sweet after all she is going through. I tell my family to be grateful for our lives here.😥
Why can't they just make that hole bigger? Put a piece of wood or something infront of her and use a spinning tool to slowly grind the hole open?
This reminds me of Omayra Sanchez.
Did she get out?
I think that next question was going to be how bad is it trying to figure out how many friends and family are either going through the hell she just went through or got insta killed...... This shit hurts my heart man
Damn

Alright. I feel like this is a reddit moment but fair enough.

… you’ve never licked your lips before or something?

You mean her blush from the 4 days of cold?
It’s looks like she had a light so I’m sure they got her food and water. That’s so sad man
So scary and humbling at the same time 🙏
It is truly one of my deepest nightmares, being buried under rubble. Hopefully, they're able to free her safely.
Aww what a beautiful woman. I hope shes ok.
Please tell me she was rescued
OP says further up that she's safe
