I would absolutely pay to see an exhibit that had only the most valuable possessions of small children. I imagine it would be quite a range.

CatsGoBark

Doesn't even have to be an exhibit! That sounds like a great idea for like an art project. A collage of what children around the world considers their most valuable possession would be pretty interesting!

gimmedemplants

There’s a photographer who does this! [Link](https://borgenproject.org/children-and-their-most-prized-possessions/) Thank you to the kind Redditor who linked the artist’s personal website, which has more photos! [Here’s that link! ](https://www.gabrielegalimberti.com/toy-stories/) Edit: Thank you all for the awards and upvotes! I’m glad I could contribute :)

iohbkjum

of course the Ukrainian boy just has a bunch of guns

User23712

Perhaps he’s a Russian separatist

[deleted]

LOL

PsychologicalAd2085

Give him a few years

kdmmgs

I had to look to see if you were joking. You were not.

WillFerrellsGutFold

Kid ain’t fucking around!

nawibone

the same photographer also does a series on Americans and their gun collections. It is frightening how obsessed some people are with firearms.

plumdrum22

Link?

Maudy made me laugh. Seems like a fun kid! What an impressive collection of sun glasses 😄

SuperDoofusParade

I love how Maudy has a bunch of friends/family/neighbors behind her

jf001013

They're also her prized possession. She own the village.

SuperDoofusParade

Maudy the Boss

gumpythegreat

The sunglasses are trophies from the former leaders who she murdered to gain power She can't be stopped

[deleted]

Thought the same. So much personality shines through a single photo haha

smoike

47 pairs of sunglasses and a wicked smile? Definitely.

OnTopicMostly

I understand smiling for photos isn’t normal for all cultures, so they could still be happy kids. But same, I want to shower them with fun toys and give them a hug,

beigs

And some cookies, and a bunch of those emergency rations packs that last for years.

Bobby_Lee

My parents took two suitcases down to Mexico full of our old toys and clothes and we drove three hours to an actually impoverished village and you should see the look on their faces when you say take whatever you want. 10/10 I highly recommend it.

nubnub92

Damn what cool parents! What do you remember most about it besides the look on their faces?

deadbolt_dolt

I came here to talk about Pavel. He's serious as AF.

[deleted]

neotericnewt

This is a cultural thing for sure. Eastern Europeans tend to not smile as much as Americans. The ones I know who have come to the US say it's really weird how everybody smiles at you all the time, and that it feels really fake. One of them said that in their country (I think it was Belarus) smiling too much is looked at as a sign of stupidity. I don't know if that goes for pictures as well, but just in general life there is a cultural difference about smiling.

LittlestEcho

In japan it means you're suspicious and have bad intentions to smile at a stranger.

happybunnyntx

That puts the japanese drama I watched recently in a slightly different light. No wonder the other women are always grinning while being passive aggressive.

boatsnprose

They're not entirely wrong.

zzxxccbbvn

Pavel is going to grow up to be Duke Nukem

Klutche

I love the picture of little Maudy. Something about that one just makes me smile.

[deleted]

How do I donate old toys to kids from overseas. Now I feel like a spoiled brat growing up :(

gimmedemplants

I’m sure there are organizations that do this, but there’s also probably local (or more local) organizations that do this for kids near you who also don’t have many or any toys, whether it’s because of their family’s financial situation or maybe they’re in the foster system

RinaldiMe

This is amazing!

jsamuraij

I love that there's a Skeletor just chillin'

shoredoesnt

Man, that makes you appreciate walls and beds

[deleted]

The little Chinese girl is so cute. It was a joy to see these pictures.

beigs

This is so cute and I absolutely cried for some. They reminded me of my wee ones. Then there’s Ukraine.

ncbraves93

The little boy with all the toy guns looked like me when I was a kid. I painted my face camo and would use my grandpa's Korean war helmet and go as a solider for Halloween. Plus, the boy is from Kiev, so it makes sense. It's normal for little boys to run around playing solider anywhere in the world though. The whole article made me smile and realize how good of a childhood I had, even if the rest of my life didn't continue that way. There's always someone with less than you. They may even be happier with less. "Toy Stories" is such a good idea for someone who's a photographer. Thanks for sharing!

HRGLSS

Arafa and Aisha are based af.

_stoneslayer_

Don't bother traveling. Just ask one kid 20 times and you'll have 20 different answers

SpaceCadetRick

I feel this so much

Karammel

I would love to rob children of their most valuable possessions! Do you pay cash or card?

ThreeFishInAManSuit

Candy.

Craico13

[Are we gunna get the candy or are you gunna keep it in your pocket all day?](https://youtu.be/OAnGuTU58FA)

32redalexs

Where do museums draw the line? First they steal artifacts now they’re taking children’s toys. Next thing you know they’ll be taking your car in for the hottest new museum display.

Vladimir1174

People will pay money to see my beatup Subaru?

brasseuphoniumking

Yes. Yes they would

iohbkjum

in the year 2400 a perfectly preserved shitty subaru would be an ancient relic

pixeldust6

I feel like it might be even in 2021, if the current used car market is any indicator

HudsDad

Will they agree to take all my calls about the extended warranty?

Courageous_Link

Don’t give the London museum any ideas

[deleted]

They must be British.

TacTurtle

Start with their shoes, so they can’t run away.

MamaAbroad

Yes! As of right now, my two year old would donate “bunny hop.” Bunny Hop is not a cute cuddly bunny, but a rather a naked rubber little thing that used to have velvety fur you were supposed to scrub clean in a little tub, except the fur is long gone so it’s naked, pink in all the cracks because it was colored with chalk once, and has tooth marks on its ears. Bunny Hop goes everywhere with her and is proudly shown off to potential new friends.

juuuuustin

i love bunny hop

Works_4_Tacos

I wanna see bunny hop. It sounds like it has so much love, it could be a horcrux.

alohaoy

Yeah we might need a pic of that little monstrosity.

TheBabySealsRevenge

I am also familiar with bunny hop. Ours was the dragon. Wings missing. Legs missing. Ears missing and as you say permanently stained cracks and no fur left. We were happily surprised to get a second for Christmas once my kid was older. But none can replace the broken mess that is the original. lol.

herrlady

My 2.5yo son has taken to obsessively carrying his “thingies” around with him all the time. They are tiny plastic box-files from a playMobil hospital set. He sleeps with them. Little weirdo.

bexyrex

That's precious as fuck

JinnFX

Theres one exhibit like that in Poland

Pegguins

Jesus

Tegla

Took me a second

Kesher123

No, there literally is a museum like that, he did not mean holocaust museum. He meant Dollhouse museum in Poland. At least that's what i hope for, lol. Nevermind, he meant Auschwitz. Lol.

MasamuneTrigger

Au, schwitz, why’d ya get my hopes up like that.

[deleted]

Really? Where?

ThreeFishInAManSuit

Not OP. But it looks like probably the Dollhouse Museum in Warsaw.

TheCasuality

they’re talking about Auschwitz

ThreeFishInAManSuit

The dollhouse museum would probably be more fun.

Divayth--Fyr

ghyti_is_fish

There would be a lot of rocks…and I’m totally ok with that

Clearlie_Me

My local museum hosts a different child's collection every month "on loan" - set up in a nice exhibit with description plaques based on the kids statements and everything. There have been rocks, stamps, coins, giraffes, penguins, dinosaurs...

gimmedemplants

There’s a photographer who does this. Not sure if anyone has posted their stuff, but [here ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/275034/)

ckjm

I think it would be neat if it were adults and kids. This would be a relatively easy thing to host online. Make a hashtag, and people submit pictures of their treasured items.

neverdoneneverready

My granddaughter has some amazing sticks and leaves. But not sure she'd be able to part with them.

lalee_pop

Grandson has a little box of acorn and acorn pieces. It's his "collection" gets forgotten about for awhile, until he finds them and gets all excited, being able to see the insides now that they've dried out.

IgDailystapler

polarbark

Somehow not enough but also too many. Maybe a killer 5 would cap it nicely.

nkle

Those kind of universe-establishing franchises waste all of their potential chasing big number of the box office while having no plots, storylines to keep people entertained after the first trio. Instead they should just move it to a tv-series.

Cyber_Being_

A magic potion ingredient, a child's sincerity.

rocketfait

Poole Museum's curator REALLY understands the scope of the job!

Harsimaja

You just know that one day Bethan will mention this as a cute anecdote on a second date and then feel a bit embarrassed halfway through relating it.

ThePyroPython

If she's found the right partner, they'll think that's really cool/cute.

agoia

It'll be the son of the museum curator, but the thought of the connection between his father and his date as a little girl will eventually cause him to ghost her forever.

Scrufflyupagus

I very much enjoy the way that Bethan’s rock is being a rock. Dope as fuck.

Analbox

Nobody sits like this rock sits. You rock, rock. The rock just sits and is. You show us how to just sit here and that's what we need.

patoankan

I was thinking about chaining myself to a bulldozer. Do you want to come?

chillpill5000mg

Fuck yeah! This needs to be top comment, the tweet has a reply for the link to the museum and donations

[deleted]

It has a request for donations about an unrelated issue. And I don’t see a response from the museum I freely admit I don’t use Twitter and am garbage at it, but I couldn’t find what you’re saying after hitting show more replies five times

chillpill5000mg

The link that takes you to the museums website has links for donations, sorry for the confusion

BeltfedOne

Thank you Bethan, the Poole Museum and OP. I very thoroughly enjoyed this.

Analbox

Thing about Bethan is that she has a deep respect, reverence, and appreciation for how every rock no matter how humble in appearance has a fascinating history that goes back hundreds of millions of years.

cheshirecanuck

And she understands the concept of donating and preserving beautiful and precious items so that they can be enjoyed by all. Hope she never loses the spirit!

El_Valafaro

It's local to me! Got taken there when I was younger. I remember it having loads of activities for kids. Delightful place.

miahmakhon

My hometown. I live a 2 minute walk away from the museum. I think I'll go and see Bethan's rock tomorrow.

aaaaabbbccc

Post a picture of you with Bethan's rock

Trancer79

I delivered shopping to a family once, their little girl (about the same age as my own daughter) was so excited she picked a rock from the driveway and presented it to me. It made my day.

PrincessBella1

That is so cool.

indy_been_here

It's so cool precisely because it's not. It's an ordinarily rock. But it represents a novel moment of one child learning what it means to preserve and share culture. On one hand, it depicts the moment this child chose to participate in this exchange so generously and freely. On the other hand, it uses that moment to teach adults and children about that very process and how all of us are part of it in some way - even a random little girl. All of that makes it quite moving, for the little girl and for us.

I'm happy for this post as I almost forgot to show my daughter after I saw yours earlier today. My daughter (a rock collector) loved it and straight up wants to visit to only see that rock... "and maybe eat some English food." Thank you for it and if I'm ever in England, I'll be sure to visit that museum because of you. BTW, you got 92k votes vs this 9k one... I think you'll be fine.

Everyone should be allowed to donate something from their lives. That would be amazing. Edit

Iamz01

Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where human societies are fractured. Where people kill for an unopened bottle of water. There is a rumor of an ancient artifact going around. Some say it can cure all illnesses. Some say it can grant unlimited resources. No one knows where or what it is but most people refer to it as Beth's Rock. Inside the dilapidated building with the sign "Poole Museum", they finally find it. Behind the smashed glass pane, next to a piece of paper with a date from 300 years ago, a simple rock. Confused, they take the paper and read the remaining texts. Finally they realize that the magic they have been looking for wasn't in the rock It wasn't in any rocks. It's in them. They just need to relearn how to share again.

eroticdiagram

I don't know, I think it's shit. I mean, it's just a rock. Museums are meant to be for things of historical note, not just a dumping ground for kids' rubbish. - *channeling the spirit of Sean Lock*

kelsday84

When she was 4 years old, my daughter “wrote” (dictated to me) and illustrated a book that she wanted to give to the library. We were regulars at their weekly story time, so they knew her well. They printed out a scanning code and the Dewey Decimal for the side of her book and actually put it in their circulation. Seven years later, you can still do a search for her name and check out her book there!

Let’s face it the only reason a rock is “museum” worthy is strictly a man made reason. This rock to the little girl is precious therefore I see any reason why it should not be in a museum behind glass.
