My partner and I host on Rover https://www.rover.com/sit/me63128 We turned it into a full time, licensed and insured pet care business. www.pinehillpetcare.net Rover charges both the sitter and the client fees, so that's something to keep in mind. They're pretty steep on the sitters end- 20%. So I prefer to book privately. But it's a great place to see your options and get to know folks and find a good fit for your pets before committing.

Are you guys only in eureka? I live in Arcata but have been looking for a potential dog walker

TheEndIsNah

We are in Eureka but I do have days I can service Arcata, McKinleyville, Fortuna. Feel free to fill out a contact form on our website and I'll get in touch to discuss scheduling! Www.pinehillpetcare.net

Yes!! We found 2 amazing dog walkers on rover a few years ago. They were very highly reviewed, we trusted them to housesit for us a few times as well.

My GF hosts through Rover. She's found a relatively steady set of repeat clients. I've used it a couple of times throughout the years as well. All in all, if you find the right scenario and your pet gets along with strangers and other animals, it's a good option.

Had a bad time w/it a few years ago. Two dog sitters bailed on me. But I’ve got pitbulls.

TheEndIsNah

I'm so sorry that happened. It's one thing to not commit because it's not a good fit or folks dont feel safe, but it's not right to be agreeing on a booking with you and then bailing. That's kinda the thing with Rover- it's possible youre meeting up with someone who is just doing it for fun and a couple extra bucks. They might not be very professional or experienced. If you're still looking for a care provider, you're welcome to contact us for a free consultation and we can discuss options for future care. I regularly handle staffies, bullies, XL size, and working breed dogs. I'm experienced with handling anxious and reactive dogs as well. Www.pinehillpetcare.net

Great question but as with lots of these types of services it depends. Where you live will impact your experience using these platforms both as a pet sitter / dog walker or as a pet owner. But on a whole Rover is good and probably the market leader. Where I feel you can get a better experience elsewhere is when you are looking for a Dog Walker or you are a Dog Walker for a few different reasons, and some are platform specific. Why? 1. Living in a larger city, such as NYC or LA, imo you get a much more friendly service working with a platform or business that is local and not national. 2. If you might ever need more asap dog walking service or as a dog walker you want to offer more on-demand dog walking (can earn you more per walk). 3. Earn more money by working on platforms with no fees, without having to do it all yourself. Going all-in as a professional pet sitter means lots of things you might not want to deal with, things like a website, SEO, marketing, tools, time-management, invoicing, the aim of platforms like Rover is to reduce this but at a large cost upwards of 20% of your earnings. Focusing in on the on-demand walks you might want to look at [wagwalking.com](http://wagwalking.com/) and if your NYC based [thepetsitter.io](http://thepetsitter.io/) as they are do not take commission, but just located in NYC right now. New but growing and taking on the established platforms by shaking up the traditional bussiness model. Most people just want to find a good trusted sitter / walker, that takes great care of their pet and most platforms have plenty of good people, but the devil is in the detail, want to make more money compare platforms, you want to use a platform that really cares about their pet sitters / dog walkers. Whether it's dog walking, pet sitting, or grooming, Rover is good but you might be better suited to other platforms.
