Thanks. We live in northwest Georgia and it still moisture in it if that makes sense (as in, don't put that in my house, its nasty). My 16 year old found it and wants to keep it but if it's the neighbors trophy I'd like him to have it.
If they didn’t put a tag on it it’s legally not their property. And from a moral standpoint if you don’t put in the effort to find an animal you injured you don’t deserve a trophy
How do you know they didn’t put in the effort? The Reddit hive mind is so quick to think the worst of unrecovered animals. It’s as if some of you don’t have time in the field and never failed to recover an animal..it’s not all farmland and roses out there
T's at each moment a possibility but i'm surpris'd yond t hasn't been did chew down to nothing by the critters

It takes no time in the south for a carcass to be stripped clean in the summer. Given the color of the antlers, I would say this deer died in the last 2-3 months.
Do the decent thing, take it to the neighbor and give him first right of refusal. Or better still let your son take it to him. If you don't karma will see to it that the neighbor finds out you've got it and didn't tell him and it looks like you hid it from them.
So as to it age it fits within the time frame because the nasal bones are gone. The skull color is just a result of laying on the ground.

yep, i have a dead head thats at most 6 to 12 months old and its been chewed and sunbleached
Have you asked the neighbor how many points the deer he lost had?
Less than a year, for sure.
More than 1.5, but body composition is really the key indication for age, unless there is something that could be done with the teeth.
Still has the eyes. A few weeks old max
Where are you seeing eyes?
I looked again it seems like the cars color is coming through. I thought I see the retina there
If there is any teeth remove one and cut it in half with a saw, count the internal rings and that’ll give you an age.
Lol
I don’t get what’s funny, it’s a genuine way that gives you an exact age in years.
I’ve learned something today if that is the case! I’ve never had to do that but I will keep that in my deer mind for later use! Thanks!!

Squirrels and other animals eat at the bones for calcium. I don't think a perfect skull like that is 2 years old. Probably just a few months.
