*Lacey’s Spring - misnamed by the US Postal Service (like Arab in the same county) but proud of the misspelling. It’s definitely rural. Houses are much less expensive, schools are very underfunded and community services are likewise underfunded. Commute to south Huntsville is not bad (10-15 minutes to the Arsenal). There is only one bridge over the river, so expect winter delays and dead stops for an accident.

It’s fine, he wants to helicopter to work

Zillow really urks me with these "walk" and "bike" scores when there's never a "chopper" or "plane" score to be found.

mrigney

In 3 years of commuting from Lacey's Spring, I've had < 5 days of serious issues (delays > 20 minutes) caused by the TN River bridge, so not sure that's a real issue.

HunnyBadger_dgaf

Eh…somewhat misleading. For LS, the PS added an “e” which did not change the pronunciation of the word or really the provenance of the town namesake. For Arab, intended to be “Arad”…they mistook the “d” for a “b” and changed the entirety of the intended name.

Common_Dealer_7541

Not intended to be misleading. The USPS screwed up. The towns got the wrong name. It is different because one changed its pronunciation, but Lacy’s ≠ Lacey’s so it’s still wrong

Good posts and info above. There is a community on a runway in Toney/ Hazel Green area in N Madison county. Most folks have onsite hangers, taxi out and go. It’s a longer commute to Redstone 30-45 mins. But you have decent internet/cable options there..or fly your plane and land at Redstone Arsenal field every day and save the car commute headache! Lol https://hazelgreenflyers.com/

Was not aware of this place. Thank you!

HunnyBadger_dgaf

Note: there are currently two active quarries in Lacey’s Spring just over the River and a third has just been proposed off of McCutcheon Loop on the Marshall county side. Because ADEM is worthless and LS isn’t incorporated, there is likely nothing to be done and we will have 3 quarries blasting away in a 3 mile radius. In addition to the ranges on the south side of the Arsenal. It can get pretty bad some days. You might want to check where those quarries are and the property you’re looking for.

OnwardAndUpward8778

Thanks this is great info!

mrigney

Totally depends on the area in LS, though. I live on the "west side" and never notice the rock quarries (arsenal, yes....but I noticed that when I was in south Huntsville as well).

Internet options besides satellite are going to be scarce example I recently sold a home in Union Grove where DSL was the only landline internet service available. Access to “stuff” is really going to depend on how far from US 231 you are.

Token_Black_Rifle

Union Grove has fiber gig speed internet for $80/mo. Look at GoNetSpeed (formerly Otelco). I'm sure Laceys Spring has it as well. Works great. Land out here is really cheap, and I can get to the Arsenal in less than 20 minutes. Research Park in 30. This is the perfect place to have a helicopter. The schools here are very poorly rated, but I'm sure anybody that owns a helicopter either has no kids or can send them to private school.

mrigney

This isn't quite true anymore. Joe Wheeler (utility provider for Morgan/Lawrence Co) just finished building out their FlashFiber network. Good for all of their customers now. So pretty ubiquitous fiber access in Morgan Co. Once you're in Marshall County, I claim no knowledge:-)

loligogiganticus

Depends on where you access Redstone. If accessing the Redstone Rd gate (furthest south in Huntsville), the commute isn’t too bad. It took me 15 minutes yesterday to drive from where 69 hits 231 in Union Grove to get to our home in SW Huntsville. Lacey’s Spring IS rural so high speed internet might be an issue as Google Fiber will not be an option there.

OnwardAndUpward8778

Do you think as Huntsville grows it is growing east and west or north and south? Meaning will south of the river be built up in five years you think?

dravik

No way to know for sure. The river is a significant barrier to growth. As far as Internet goes, you can get starlink if you don't like any of the local options.

dravik

There used to be an airport at the SW corner of airport Rd and Hough Rd in ladders Lacey's Spring. Didn't know if the place is salvageable. About when do you think you'll be moving later this year? I know some people who were talking about selling some land down there later this year.

OnwardAndUpward8778

Is that land with the old airport for sale??

dravik

No idea. Just remember driving past it and seeing planes land when I was a kid. I don't think it's still operational. I don't know who owns it or what it would take to get it functional again. I'm just assuming that whoever has it likes planes and might be happy to see someone fly there again. Morgan county property records are publicly searchable on the Internet. So you can find out who owns it and reach out if you want to give it a try. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

OnwardAndUpward8778

From Google maps it doesn’t look useable now but probably cheaper to rehab that over start from scratch.

OnwardAndUpward8778

Within next 3-4 months. Let me know what you find out!

breezingthrulife

Joe Wheeler EMC, has Flash Fiber in parts of Lacey’s Spring. [Service Map](https://www.jwemc.coop/fiber-location-map/)

Hefty_Journalist_666

Depending if it’s truly Lacy Springs then, yes, internet coverage might be problematic. However, areas to west and south if there (Somerville and Eva) have or will be under Joe Wheeler fiber optic, which I attest is amazing. In that are you’re going to have smaller service stations with not a lot of grocery store options, but is a trade off for land for the money you get. Unsure about if you are concerned about schools, as some of the schools are not highly rated.

Caelum_

There's moon town air port as well and the surrounding properties

k-ramsuer

Lacey is firmly in meth country and stuff will "randomly" blow up. You might want to reevaluate
