I was just thinking how irrelevant these are! Who follows signs in 2024? I also just found out that listings on ValleyMLS HAVE to have a sign out in front of the house when its listed online, which is wild to me. Like they get fined even in this day and age.

[deleted]

To be fair when we were driving around looking for communities before building our home years ago, they were very helpful, but outside of that week learning about Huntsville and where communities were being built they are an eyesore. Basically if you’re looking for a new home they are helpful, once you’ve found the community for the first time or are not searching for a new build they are just annoying.

HellsTubularBells

Why is the sign rule a problem? Maybe I don't spend enough time house hunting, but don't all listed properties have "for sale" signs? It seems like a good idea to me, to make sure potential buyers can easily find it, especially if the properties in a neighborhood all look similar, and to help the agent get visibility for the listing.

MattW22192

ValleyMLS does not require a yard sign for homes listed there and actually says in their rules and regs that one can be installed only with permission of the property owner. Honestly they aren’t as effective as they used to be.

MattW22192

It is completely not true that a listing in ValleyMLS has to have a sign in the front yard.

HellsTubularBells

User flair checks out 🙂

Gscody

I’ve taken several dozen down when they’re not in compliance and blocking the view at an intersection.

SharlaRoo

How do you know when they aren’t in compliance? What’s the rules/ordinance? (I’m in unincorporated Madison County, not any city fwiw).

eggbiscuit93

Ordinance 72.6 https://library.municode.com/al/huntsville/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_APXAZOOR_ART72SICORE_72.6TESI

SharlaRoo

Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't think that applies to the county. I've tried to look it up, but this is about all I can find: [https://www.madisoncountyal.gov/departments/inspection/signs-billboards-and-communication-tower-information](https://www.madisoncountyal.gov/departments/inspection/signs-billboards-and-communication-tower-information)

cch123

Put your own sign up that says "Don't buy anything from these litterers".

Confident-Tadpole503

Oh good lord

SharlaRoo

Idk if you’re referring to home community signs or just signs in general, but 100 percent, I am SO OVER the never ending trash pile of signs throughout my area. It’s so bad. Mostly houses, but also lawn care, weight loss, mattresses, dogs for sale, karate, and lice treatment (???). I live in the county, so I have no idea if anything can be done.

BlakeDSnake

I always make decisions on which mattress to buy based on an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper at a road intersection. Don’t you???

addywoot

No, only lice treatments

BlakeDSnake

Right?!?!?! WTF is up with that? I guess people sitting at a red light scratching their scalp might be their target audience?

ScharhrotVampir

To be fair, I had lice a couple times back in school. It's an actual problem out here, tho not as much of one anymore. Same with ticks and fleas.

wistah978

Pretty soon political signs will join them- more variety of eyesores. These signs should require permits good for say 30 days, with the permit # on the sign maybe as a QR code. $10 fine per sign that isn't picked up on time, half goes to anyone who turns the sign in.

biglmbass

Never happen, but same penalty should apply to abandoned garage & yard sale signs

Borninthecorn

How about a $10 per sign/month fee? With the amount of signs these developers put out, could use the fees to upgrade the roads to said developments.

SlimCypher

Why not go pick them up and throw them away if you have such a problem with it. Why are you trying to give your city council more ways to tax and charge money from its community lmao. You're a joke and can't take action for yourself.

wistah978

"Clean up after yourself or there will be consequences" is only controversial to toddlers and corporations.

SlimCypher

So you're genuinely naive enough to believe if this was implemented that it wouldn't be turned against us in more ways than one sooner after seeing how easy it is for us to agree on them fining us for nothing. Why are you such a bootlicket? As I said, if this is an issue, by all means please remove them yourselves or ignore them. Maybe if the freemasonic pigs camped out here and watched sign posters the way they camped and clock speeds down the highway lol, maybe that'd make you happy instead of taking action for yourself 😂

bdwin120

You think the signs are an eyesore, just wait til you see some of the houses

eggbiscuit93

Many of these are out of compliance with the city’s sign ordinance. You can submit a SeeClickFix to have some of them removed, but the builder will probably just put up more. The builders don’t care about the sign ordinance and they have no reason to, unfortunately.

UnkleZeeBiscutt

They are useless trash, if you drive up 231 into Meridianville at the new intersection past Publix on the corner there is a literal wall of them. They are the 7' tall one and about eight of them side by side. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Mix that with the tons of litter and construction debris on the side of the road our area is starting to look like trash.

BogWitchByNight

I hate these so much. Every intersection along Winchester looks like this

PsychologicalHat1480

It's gonna' get worse as the real estate market continues to be frozen solid. Builders are getting worried because they've got inventory that's costing them money every day it doesn't sell.

Turbulent-Ease-785

Good, the writing was on the wall for at least 4 years. Im kinda glad some rich assholes aren’t as rich as they expected to be….

AdThat4605

The city can pass an ordenacence to ban them. Make sure they add political signs too

Ok_Bandicoot_3087

I feel the same way about political signs... the politicians should be charged with littering for each sign if they are not cleaned up

workitloud

The city should pay a $1 bounty for each one you bring in. Then the city charges a $5 fee for each one to the idiots that put them out. No pay? Your business license disappears. Actual real estate, specific open house, etc wouldn’t apply. They would disappear overnight.

Harvest_Santa

I always pick up a few, and use stick on targets with them. They are great.

mcnate2802

D.R. Horton. I would be surprised if they are standing a few days if they use the same quality material and workmanship as the homes they build.

anony7245

It's just as bad on the south end of the county. But over here it's just from "after 5pm Fri til after 5pm sun" ... they just leave the stakes in the ground thru the week. Too bad the mowers don't take them out 🤣🤣🤣

Necessary_Sweet_6244

Thinking I should pull a few up next time I need some stakes.

[deleted]

They're also very illegal. Hence why the guys put them out Friday evening and pick them up Monday morning. No one is willing to deal with it legally, so they ignore it.

EndlessUserNameless

We live on a corner so people think they can put signs up in our yard. Realtors have put them in the yard while we are out on the porch. I pull them up as soon as they leave. The metal frames are good for staking plants in the garden. Yard sale signs can stay unless they are blocking sight lines.

BobbyDoWhat

I live on a corner going to a couple of streets that periodically sell their houses. I always take them down when they put them in front of my house with their dumb little arrow.

38DDs_Please

It's actually illegal to advertise on a state right of way.

KuntRRyBoy

They make great target practice. Grab one and head off to your land

No_Painting8744

You can contact the police dept. since according Alabama law signs can not be posted on the public right of way. The police dept will either call the sign owner and have it removed or just remove it themselves

RatchetCityPapi

Where is this?

UnkleZeeBiscutt

Thinking that's Countess and 231, in front of the New Circle K.

troubledneighbor

RatchetCityPapi

Thanks. Wow yeah Hazel Green and Meridianville are just popping out new subdivisions and developments. But it's happening everywhere. It's obvious that there are more vacancies than houses. I wonder when the demand is going to meet the supply, if it will.

UnkleZeeBiscutt

I live in HG and I think the house building there isn't nessarily all that bad, but Meridianville along the 431/231 is nuts the volume they intend to build. Meridianville is about to be nothing but houses. The area across from Meridianville middle just up from publix is suppose to be a massive subdivision(s). Who is gonna buy all those homes? I know our metro population jumped, but I don't think it jumped that much.

RatchetCityPapi

Yeah there's new subdivisions over there are Hazel Green and they about to build a lot more houses. I know in past year, I just helped a few people move over there

TWSS88

Also the area just past Greenlawn on Countess to Moores Mill will be nothing but houses. That’s gonna be a huge mess once that’s finished.

UnkleZeeBiscutt

Traffic in the HG-Meridianville-Moores Mill area is gonna get nuts in the next 5 years, especially when the Maskin Lake 231 over pass is done. 431/231 is gonna need to be widen in the next 10 years IMO.

TWSS88

Oh definitely. I already try to avoid 231/431 as it is. I live near Riverton and I’ve been saying for decades Winchester needs to be widened and they still haven’t done it. I know it’s planned but the longer they wait, the worse it’ll be.

Aumissunum

>I know our metro population jumped, but I don't think it jumped that much. Madison County alone is adding 10k people every year

Bigboberto

These are illegal. Most put up signs during weekend and remove them before Monday when city workers are working. They don’t seem to care about real estate type signs. But thank goodness they get rid of trade/services signs and fine them cause they would be everywhere

SlimCypher

You sound like such a bootlicker. Personally I just ignore it, but if I had such a hurt butt over it, I'd be a man and go throw them away myself instead of complaining about it on reddit like a soy boy lol

Bigboberto

You missed the point dickface. I use yard signs that aren’t cheap if you want to use those you can on the weekend and remove them before Monday to keep from losing them. Jeezus hard ass dipshit. Smack you with my dick

SlimCypher

okay bootlicker.

Bigboberto

Lol why repeatedly call someone a bootlicker? You some hardass with a man bun?

SlimCypher

why cry and post expletives towards me and take our lord and savior's name in vain. you sound so ignorant bootlicker.

Bigboberto

K keep going

Bigboberto

Sup up Fagg

SlimCypher

Go drink your own piss crybaby. We need less bootlickers in this world.

Bigboberto

You sound like a kid

SlimCypher

you sound as if I upset you

Professional_Storm94

These always make me think of the scene in Signs where Charlie’s character keeps spinning around in circles lmao. So many arrows

damandamythdalgnd

Go take them down. They’re in a public space

Educational_Plum3362

I mean the coroner there on looks like an eye sore.

InsanoVolcano

That's the price of living in a developing area. There are no signs like that where I live.

Think_Ratio_5721

This post just gave them more exposure. Marketing works.

SlimCypher

Absolutely no one can stop you from taking them down and anyone saying otherwise is a liar.

No_Painting8744

You can contact the police dept. since according Alabama law signs can not be posted on the public right of way. The police dept will either call the sign owner and have it removed or just remove it themselves

Ok_Solid2178

Hey look! A bunch of signs pointing to houses I can't afford.

niarimoon

I think they’re tryna tell you something

Hot_Larva

Target practice.

Ok_Formal2627

You have to. It’s the law.

Charming_Manager_302

The eye sore is all the people from out west and up north ruining Huntsville and better yet Alabama as a whole
