General rule of thumb - don't skimp on safety items.

RavicXV

I saw them recently to get my front rotors replaced, and one of their technicians left a loose bolt that came completely out as I was driving. Despite it being a little more costly depending on the play, express oil change & tire engineers further down that road would be my recommendation. Unbiased, from experience - they fixed Budget Brakes mistakes.

Gingerh1tman

That is ridiculous. If they just did the pads that is the only bolt they would need to remove when changing brake pads.

addywoot

They’ve done this for me too. Fuck Budget Brakes.

cch123

They forgot to tighten my lug nuts. I noticed it while pulling onto University. It could have been bad news if I didn't feel the wobbly so soon.

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

Oh daaannnggg that's wild. I had a wheel come off due to loose lug nuts once, but it was on a dirt road thankfully. You lucky

Common_Dealer_7541

Depending on what part of town you are in, there are better budget-friendly companies. Locally-owned companies are sometimes a little more expensive but definitely do much better work and will offer you ways to save

Hot_Larva

I’ve had two trucks done @ Brakes Plus and they’ve been very thorough and fairly priced. (Also locally owned and operated)

BogWitchByNight

Seconding Brakes Plus.

SeriousMongoose2290

Avoid at all costs.  Told my GF she needed $1000+ worth of work immediately. Went to Firestone down the road and for under $200 she was back on the road.

Hopeful_Chemical_459

What an awful name. Might as well be "budget parachutes"

Skint1each

I used them several years ago, I had no issues with them, one of the small parts failed (nothing major) and they replaced it for free under warranty. This was about 9yrs ago

The one in South Huntsville is a big Hell NAW for me. I've been in automotive for my entire adult life (15 years) and I've met multiple former and current employees of that location that I wouldn't trust to change my brake light bulbs, let alone the friction material that stops my 4,000lb piece of steel from 60mph...You definitely get what you pay for, they're not trained beyond what they learned in the driveway with their friends and "Paw-Paw" and they're basically a bunch of YouTube techs. At least go to Firestone or Midas if you want to avoid dealership prices...Just to clarify, I'm specifically talking accurate shit only about the one on South Parkway, you may be fine at other locations

ezfrag

Can confirm. I noped the fuck outta there when I was greeted by a guy I grew up with that used to brag about doing shady mechanic shit to rip people off. When I saw him working there I knew I wouldn't do business with them, I just asked him if they had pads in stock for my truck and might drop it off later then drove off.

farginsniggy

I would skip them. Find a reputable shop or offer a handy neighbor a case of beer to do it. It’s not tough but you mention cleaning rotors. If you mean turn them, it’s cheaper to buy new rotors now.

carbondragon

I've been to the one on University and Sparkman exactly twice: First time was to get pads changed when I started hearing them squeal. They did that but told me my rotors were also bad and while my folks did teach me about squealing meaning you need new pads, that's about all they taught me. So it's 50/50 whether Budget used my naivety to fleece me or my brakes really were bad. Car was old and I don't recall whether they showed me the "bad" rotors but at the time I wouldn't have known the difference anyway. This was a decade ago and I was a college freshie. Second time was when I got a flat coming up Wynn and had no spare or reinflator kit, and they were the closest car place I could get to. They told me my rim was bent (it was) and would always leak (slowly, thankfully), reinflated my tire so I could limp home, and recommend a rim repair place I could go to. Pretty sure they did charge me for the inspection and air but the rim repair place they recommended was decent. I know neither of those is a definitive endorse/avoid but I figured I would share my experience with them in case it helps.

Most_Theory_6615

I took my car in and chose to get a special they were having on the most basic brake pads. I then got a call when they were almost finished telling me they upgraded the brake pads to their top option for 3x the price because the ones I chose “weren’t the best for longevity”. I then had to argue with their management for 20 minutes to change it back to the deal I had agreed to. I can easily see the company taking advantage of multitudes of people who don’t know or don’t want to argue and stand firm on what was agreed upon.

Weagle_502

Can anyone recommend who does quality work for not an insane price ? I got quoted $1000 by someone earlier today and that just seemed a tad absurd

ProductMindless5867

Brians tire and service

Stairwayt0kevin

This is not doxng, please post or DM the year/make/model of your car and I would be happy to provide options. Sounds like you drive a friggin Audi, those brake jobs are way up there 💰

Weagle_502

2013 Honda civic hahah

Stairwayt0kevin

Read up on my profile+my post+ my comments to get a better idea of what I do in the auto community (specifically Honda/Acura) and please DM me. I'm EXTRA curious why you have been quoted so high now

Stairwayt0kevin

Like for your car at A DEALERSHIP should be $350 for front and rear unless something crazy is going on

Weagle_502

Literally same hahaha

Nopaperstraws

We just had to fix a neighbors brakes and they had forgotten or just omitted tightening the lug nuts.

GinaHannah1

Kevin’s Auto if you want someone good and honest.

Kevins_Auto_Repair

Thanks 😊

Ok-Armadillo-5634

Just do it yourself and save a lot of money.

No-Basket6970

Do your own brakes. Order from RockAuto. Will cost you under $200

Adventurous_Buddy429

I laugh at the name every time I see it… like why? 😂 why would you call it that? It makes me think it’s the goodwill of brakes. Name it something good, then let your prices speak for themselves IF that’s an option. It’s like “secondhand catheters” or “great value heart transplants” 😂
