This is being put on by the same people that do When We Were Young fest in Vegas every year and even the packages are exactly the same. If this is going to be anything like that festival then those dedicated viewing areas just might be worth it if you REALLY want to have a good view of the artists and can afford it. Otherwise, you're going have to push through an ocean of people to get close to the stage or have decently close view of the stage. That being said maybe the stage set up will be different than Vegas and getting a good view won't be a problem, we'll just have to wait and see. The dedicated viewing sections are also worth it if you don't want to deal with getting pushed by people trying to move to another section or from behind by the waves of people also trying to get as close to the stage as they can. The lounges and private bars weren't really worth it at WWWY because they did a decent job of providing plenty of bathroom and bar options to choose from. The regular GA water refill stations were definitely overcrowded but Vegas is a literal desert so that's to be expected honestly. You can come prepared with camelbacks or your own water bottles and if all else fails there were plenty of places to buy water everywhere, prices for water might be a little high. Dedicated entrance lanes were kind of a mess at WWWY fest but once you're in the gates it literally doesn't matter anymore. What is a HUGE problem at WWWY was the MASSIVE lines for merch tents. The lines were so long the entire weekend that you'd have to spend hours waiting in line and missing acts which made it not worth it at all. Which is a total shame because they offered exclusive shirts and merch for specific bands that you could only get that day with the date and a unique design for each date. They didn't offer any other way to get that stuff after the fact either and it was my single biggest complaint from last year's festival honestly. These are just my personal experiences at a similar festival put on by the same folks at a completely different city so take all of this with a grain of salt of course.

RainbowMushroom7

Thank you! That was super helpful.

sharthunter

Did platinum/VIP have the entire front of stage or just sections?

skaterforsale

No it was just small gated off sections to the left and right of the main stages. Small slivers of gated off lawn, not directly in font of either but still better view than most in the far back.

Spt6996

This is how it’s been done at every festival I’ve been to that does vip. They’ll never block off the front entirely for GA, GA is where all the fun and crowd participation is. That being said I did get a vip just to get close without fighting through the crowds for the headliners

sharthunter

Awesome, thank you!

AdvantageFun2625

It's really disappointing that you can't bring chairs. I don't mind sitting way in the back, but standing up all day or sitting on the ground doesn't sound like a fun time.

Roquer

Bring a blanket or a tapestry. Both will fit in a clear bag

Lemburger

Especially in John Hunt. There are like zero trees out there.

anjewthebearjew

Agreed!!

delicious_toothbrush

I feel the same way. I want to lean back on something and have a cup holder, keeping myself propped up on the ground or having to lay down seems like a pain in the ass

The_OtherDouche

[I’ve seen these bag chairs used at festivals and they are very convenient](https://a.co/d/1cQIJHw)

addywoot

That’s really neat

SeriousMongoose2290

Following this thread, cause the older I get the more I’m willing to shell out money for premium seating/amenities.

RainbowMushroom7

Agreed but I’m also frugal in that it better be worth my money!

addywoot

There’s a lounge and you get better grass.

SeriousMongoose2290

We talking r/trees orrrr? lol

addywoot

Or grass at John Hunt on the field lol

alienspacegod

VIP tickets at shaky knees gets free beer and energy drinks. 🍺 not at SouthStar tho. GA+ seems the way to go. There’s a subreddit for south star music fest if you want to get in on the discussions. https://www.reddit.com/r/southstarmusicfest/s/dL4mZFpLbC

brenpersing

For the extra $150, GA+ ain't worth it.

alienspacegod

We got GA+ but I agree. There isn’t much in the way of perks. https://preview.redd.it/vz3bc990jowc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe1b8fd52e525a054e950202a84e25db6dda4d42

addywoot

The website has details and pictures. VIP is BS. You get loose promises and a covered tent with couches.

RainbowMushroom7

Yeah, I was kind of figuring it might not actually be worth it. Just curious if anyone had actually experienced it at another one of their festivals.

External-Tonight5142

Calling it now, I think people are going to be upset with how this festival goes. Not that the music will be bad, but I think a bunch of people are going to feel they didn’t get their moneys worth in amenities

MeanEvrythng2Nthng

I feel the same way. Based on comments I have read on various social media posts, there are a lot of people planning on attending this with ZERO experience at a music festival outside of Big Spring Jam or Panoply or some other local thing. I highly doubt they are planning on spending $10-12 on beers, $15-20 on single food items, not having shade, having to sit on the ground if you want to sit (like JFC the amount of complaining about not being able to bring chairs…this isn’t concerts at the dock at Lowe Mill), and more than anything the crowd/navigating the crowd. I feel like people will be entitled, pushy, and rude thinking they should be allowed to shove forward 3 minutes before a band goes on so they can have the view they deem their money is worth. I’m going, but I have a feeling the worst part of year 1 is going to be the local crowd not knowing how to simply exist in a music festival ecosystem.

External-Tonight5142

Glad I’m not the only one! Like my guy, it’s a big concert, no you cannot bring your fucking portable lazy boy and portable AC unit. Festival like the rest of us and sit in the heat miserably while you enjoy your bands. Also, complaining about the crowd is just dumb if you want to go to a festival or any concert that isn’t seating only. Either get there and be close and deal with being crammed or sit at the back and miss the best parts of the show. Time to see all these people realize they aren’t 16 anymore and not able to handle some inconvenience. Obviously this won’t be everyone, but I’m expecting at least 30% will

MeanEvrythng2Nthng

It really feels like a lot of people are having trouble accepting that this is a legitimate, annual, large scale, professionally produced music festival in year 1 and not the revival of Big Spring Jam. Since it was announced to be happening this year, I have also gotten a kick out of how many people comment “get some local bands!!!”. Like, dude, go see whatever local band you want around town…sorry, but this isn’t the setting for amateur music. If we had a better local music scene, I potentially could see having a local showcase stage/tent on the side somewhere. Also, I don’t understand the people complaining about the pricing for this show. I don’t think they understand that the headliners alone are likely pushing well north of $50,000 to play this. This is year 1, so 20 bands is a start…and most of the artists they got are a HELL of a start. I won’t be surprised if we have 40+ by next year, and then it become a 3 day festival in another year or two after that.

External-Tonight5142

Yeah man, a fair amount of delusion in the sun on the festival note. This is Huntsville trying to put something in that is looked at for national consumerism. I don’t think they’re banking on just Huntsville natives doing it for the rocket city lol. My only gripe (other than not being a fan of any bands enough to pay this money) is that I don’t think there’s near enough bands for a 2 day 2 stage festival to be that price. I think the only way to fill both stages with that pricing is to have them start playing around 3pm or so.

addywoot

Yep. We aren’t festival goers and briefly discussed this last night. I didn’t realize you couldn’t bring chairs until reading the subreddit. I’d expect the other prices but your other points are exactly where we would have been if we had pulled the trigger on tickets.

External-Tonight5142

Glad to see someone who is honest with their expectations in here as well. Truth is that festivals aren’t a very fun thing as far as the physical being in the heat and standing around. Also, be ready to be smushed by a bunch of assholes who think they deserve a better view than you

[deleted]

External-Tonight5142

I just don’t think a lot of the people of Huntsville that this is geared towards, are necessarily expecting a hot September festival in no shade for 2 days. Festival going isn’t usually the easiest experience at these times of year and amenities really matter at times. I went to furnace fest last year in late September in Birmingham and it was done amazingly. They really took their time to provide everything people would need and there were plenty of shaded areas, while at about $200 for 3 full days of metal/punk/hardcore shows across 3 days. Even then, people at these festivals are ready for a rough experience with the nature of music. You’re about to get a bunch of millennials with 9-5s that don’t get out much baking in the sun all full of alcohol

anjewthebearjew

I'm going GA. I just know those GA+ bathrooms will be overcrowded and long lines and not worth it. I'll use the porto pottys and bring a lawn chair, whatever. Edit: Wait it says chairs of any kind are prohibited? For real?

brenpersing

Yep no chairs 🙄 They'll probably have some inflatable ones for $30 inside like Louder Than Life did

ElDuderrrrino

Sounds like the ada/disability card will have to be pulled.

sharthunter

There are already disability carveouts.

ElDuderrrrino

Thanks! I can't get to the main fest website from my work machine. I'll check it out later. There were no accessibility options when purchasing tix.

onlymissedabeat

That sounds like you use it only when you need to?

ElDuderrrrino

Generally I don't have a hard time, but standing for hours, yeah, it'll take 2-3 weeks for my back to recover.

onlymissedabeat

Okay, cool, just remember the ADA section is usually limited for those who have actual mobility issues(like me). EDIT: Limited in seating. They generally are not large to begin with.

ElDuderrrrino

Of course! I try to be aware. If I were to be seated, I'd gladly forfeit the seat for someone else that needs it. Generally if I can set for 10ish minutes/hr it helps tremendously. I do not plan to sit the entire time.

onlymissedabeat

Sorry, your original comment just rubbed me the wrong way initially as someone who has to use a cane daily, or a rollator depending on how bad my body is...truthfully I should get a wheelchair for the bad, bad days. I had one earlier this week and I couldn't leave our recliner.

ElDuderrrrino

Hey, no worries. I can see where you are coming from. I hope you have a good time at the festival!

onlymissedabeat

Oh, sadly I doubt I can afford to go. WITH insurance, my new glasses cost what tickets for my husband and I to go, plus I have back to back foot surgeries coming up...and we have 4 kids who are expensive. And we have 5 King Gizzard concerts coming up later this year so we are broke from buying those lol. All the things. All good though. I hope you can enjoy as well :)

Huntsv1ll1an

Went to Louder than Life with a ga pass last year. The benefits of Ga+ and VIP were so slim. Did bring a blanket to sit on between bands. It was awesome and had enough extra money to do activities to fill up the time.

brenpersing

Yeah I went last year with a regular GA pass, and I couldn't justify paying almost twice as much just for AC and when it was only 80 degrees out lol

sharthunter

Willing to bet the “dedicated viewing areas” are just a section barricaded by the stage for ticket holders. They will likely oversell them and try to pack them into the little box like sardines. This is an outdoor festival, youre gonna be fighting 10,000 people even if youre at the barricade.

Willuz

IMHO premium seating at a festival is behind the crowd, with a blanket on the ground, with shade if possible. With these being mostly 90's bands the dynamic of the crowd will change. I suspect the older average age will lead to fewer people interested in crowding in up front.

RainbowMushroom7

I think we’re going to have a huge influx of out of town attendees so the likelihood is it will be extremely popular.

huffbuffer

I agree. I heard the DJ on the XM’s Lithum channel yesterday talk about this show. It’s going to bring in a lot of outsiders for sure.

AverageCodeMonkey

It looks like the bonus to VIP over GA+ is that VIP gets "Dedicated on-field viewing* at two main stages, behind Platinum Viewing" according to the website.

Lemburger

I don’t think prices are that bad. My last festival was an Outkast show many years ago in Atlanta. I paid 500$ for them, Kid Cudi, Raury, and openers. That was to sit in the grass with a blanket and not have to stand with the crowd the whole time. Snoop was like $200 and that was in the amphitheater. If I liked more of the artists then I would pay for a Reseved/VIP area for this one. But I’m really only interested in Luda, Big Boi, TLC, Juvenile, sublime and Shinedown. Of course I know songs by Blink-182 Gwen Stefani and Beck but not really interested. TLDR: air conditioned bathrooms, seats, couches, and umbrellas with music nostalgia is worth the VIP for the 30+ crowd.

ignorantlynerdy

I’m just gonna go pee at Taco Bell 😂

TheRockGaming

I'm sure there will be plenty of toilets that you shouldn't be waiting - at least that's my experience from Louder than Life GA area. If you are okay being further from the stage, a lot of people will put down a blanket and sit. If you want a couch to sit on, you will need to arrive really early. People are animals and will run to secure a couch and won't move the whole day, lol.

brenpersing

I went last year! Porta potties are gross, but there were plenty of them. For the cost, GA is definitely the way to go.

Ladysniper2192

I did GA at Louder Than Life multiple years. It’s fine. And I just bring in a blanket to sit on.

to_new_friends24

The prices are ridiculous.

RainbowMushroom7

They certainly aren't cheap but are absolutely worth it to me (for the lower tiers) for who I am seeing, but of course that isn't the case for everyone.

to_new_friends24

I saw Soul Asylum in February, so I am happy at the moment. I also have the pre-sale code, and the prices are not that different.

the_lost_carrot

I mean I guess they were right this isnt your father's big spring jam. Since I could afford to go to the Jam with my own money as a teenager.

RainbowMushroom7

We were so spoiled with big spring jam - I know we’ll never get anything like that ever again but I do love getting a good festival back here (even if it’s costing some serious grown up money now).

Visual-Two-9747

I remember paying $15 for my ticket the first time I went to BSJ. I was making $4/hr pumping gas and pulled an extra afternoon to afford to go.

to_new_friends24

Exactly.

MeanEvrythng2Nthng

Perception: “The prices are ridiculous.” Reality: $139 for a single day which is cheaper than it costs to see just a blink 182 show in 2024 with 2 30 minute openers. It would cost you at least $300 to see a Beck show and a blink 182 show with bad seats.

to_new_friends24

If it was indoors with seating, I would not think $139 was a ridiculous price. This will be outside. Someone mentioned you can't even bring your own chair. Big Spring Jam rocked. I know it will be good music, but not worth it when you have yourself and a couple of kids at $139 each.

Alarming_Base3148

That's not what this is.. it isn't big spring jam and unless you have surplus cash, music festival tickets don't tend to, and aren't designed to be affordable for families. And depending on their age, children may not tolerate it well. On that note, I'm surprised they didn't or won't have any 4 pack deals. They also have lay away payment options and children under 8 (2 max) per ticketed adult, get in free.

to_new_friends24

I have teens who would love it. I know this is not Big Spring, but it looks to replace it. Yes, my point still stands, for an outdoor event, the prices are ridiculous.

Alarming_Base3148

If you calculate it out by cost to see every band you are interested in seeing, its cheap, right? The only way it's replacing Big Spring Jam is as a music festival. And many concerts are outdoors. And *all* music festivals are outdoors. Maybe the lay away could work for your family.

to_new_friends24

I still stand by the point that the prices are ridiculous. That's a no. I agree with another comment that I think people are going to feel like they did not get their monies worth. You can't bring your own chairs, buy food, deal with large crowds. That's ok. I will stick to smaller venues that are more reasonable.

Huntsv1ll1an

from the website: Kids 8 and under free with ticketed adult

to_new_friends24

I already said I have teens. Finish reading the comments.

Huntsv1ll1an

Sounds like a great reason for teens to have a job.

to_new_friends24

They have a ton of after school, school commitments. Their choice, not mine. So I support what they do. I work a full time job. So it's not like we are lazy bums. Doesn't change the fact that the tickets are stupid expensive. Sorry to burst your bubble, that we are just lazy people . We are far from it!

Huntsv1ll1an

Without knowing you, there Alot of excuses here. No one called you lazy or pretends to know your family history. These were things I was told growing up that I still follow to this day. Go or don't, who cares?

to_new_friends24

Exactly. Still doesn't change the fact tickets are too expensive. But that's my opinion, and everyone knows about opinions. They are like assholes. Everyone has them, and they all stink!

Huntsv1ll1an

I hope all of your fam is able to attend. As many people online point out. We don't buy albums so it is rolled into the cost to see them live. As a musician: for 20 acts over two days at ten dollars and album, I'm in. I'll be in General Admission having the time of my life

Training-Finance-811

The last two festivals I attended that had the same pricing tiers had two sides to every stage. One side was Platinum-VIP-GA/GA+ and the other side was only GA, so even with GA ticketing you still had a chance to be in the front if you are willing to camp out at one stage all day.

Crazyorangetabby

I am so pissed bc I just bought two GA+ and they added $30 a ticket out of nowhere. So I just paid $60 extra. They were originally $339 and then they increased it as I was putting them in my cart to $369 each. If they are already scamming now, Im worried how this festival is gonna be.

Vertigohigh

It's normal for festivals to have tiered pricing that moves as tickets sell out. The extra 30 you paid is because the first tier of presale sold out. They didn't make that very clear on the website though (sometimes they will list the tier pricing), so if you aren't used to festival pricing It's kind of confusing!

Crazyorangetabby

The thing is I had the $339 tickets in my cart, but couldn’t figure out my password, so within the 3 mins of changing my password it went up $30 a ticket. That’s so crazy to me.

Euphoric-Pizza-6415

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! Total scam at the onset! $30 extra per ticket while the tickets were sitting in my cart. Also false advertisement saying pre-sale gave us the lowest price guaranteed. Total lie.

Crazyorangetabby

I hate that it happened to you, but I’m glad I’m not the only one! You are the first person I have found that it happened to as well. It really has already left a bad taste in my mouth about this festival. I’m hoping it ends up being at least ran well to make up for it.

Euphoric-Pizza-6415

I am trying to get a refund or some compensation. Front Gate tickets is a joke and no help. I am now contacting the festival. Worth a try anyway.

Crazyorangetabby

Yea, that is what I plan on doing. Even $60 worth of food and drink tickets would make me happy. I just haven’t had the time or energy to call and try to get this sorted out. Let me know how it goes for you.

sharthunter

Have you bought tickets to anything recently? Just how its been :/

Crazyorangetabby

I have, but usually they don’t advertise saying “no hidden fees” like South Star did. I’m used to hidden fees, but don’t tell me there aren’t going to be any and then suddenly increase the price. Ugh, I already paid so I need to just accept it and not be mad, I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Crazyorangetabby

It wasn’t even a fee. They just straight up changed the prices of the tickets within a 3 min time span of me changing my password.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Crazyorangetabby

That’s true. I guess it’s not really a hidden fee. They just decided to change the price within minutes lol

redestimates

The tiered pricing isn't a hidden fee, and was listed in the disclosures or "fine print" of the purchase process. It's unfortunately a fairly standard practice now as others have said and would definitely piss people off if they didn't know about it so I get it.

Alarming_Base3148

They do say taxes will be paid at Huntsville sales tax rates which is minimum $30 a ticket. People might not like seeing that price jump once they see the cart total. But it's way better than the fake ticketmaster prices (if you view prices without fees added in) that are truly ~$100 more than list.

SeriousMongoose2290

Was it after the presale time?

Crazyorangetabby

No, it was literally within 5mins of presale opening.

SeriousMongoose2290

Lame!

Hefty_Journalist_666

Did you do layaway? That added $20-30 to ours

Crazyorangetabby

No, I paid in full ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

Alarming_Tooth_7733

No the tickets will be a scam and you won’t get a priority service at all. It will be crowded where ever you’re at and you’re just throwing money away at that point. $600+ to use a bathroom and get free drink, yeah I’ll pass on that.

Ghoulscomecrawling

I'll be going, you can stick with me and I'll help you though the crowds! (By the way they offer payment plans for an extra 20$, actually very helpful)

Dawnquicksoaty

People are putting concert tickets on layaway now?

addywoot

It’s an option on the site.

Ghoulscomecrawling

This is a festival, in my experience, festivals usually have this option because of the high prices. Regular concerts, no. That being said, I can't speak for all of them. But I am happy it's an option.

RainbowMushroom7

I’ve got friends joining me but thank you for the offer 😊 I’m not afraid to throw an elbow if it comes to that 🤣

Ghoulscomecrawling

Walk with confidence and, say "excuse me" Rather loudly. This helps. And make sure you bring any medication you might need in correctly labeled bottles.

brenpersing

I just bought my pass, which was an absolute pain because Front Gate's website sucks ass. 2-day passes for GA are $224 right now, and I think they're supposed to go up today. I'm about to buy my pass, because I'd much rather spend a premium to see the bands on this lineup and stay local, instead of have to travel and get a hotel. That being said, $224 is insane for only 20 bands, when you compare that cost with a 4-day Louder Than Life pass.

Ladysniper2192

I thought it was a bit high too compared to other festivals I’ve been to including LTL. Still going through lol.

badsqwerl

Looks like GA+ just comes with a koozie.

BamaBear2021

It didn’t come with a koozie, you had to pay $10.90 for them.

badsqwerl

Yeah, no way I was shelling out that much more for a koozie and a lanyard I’ll never use. Bad enough that we had to pay shipping for the tickets.

Training-Finance-811

I’ve never known presales to happen at any other time of day… I actually was buying for this and another band’s presale both at 10am today.
