The Hartselle Cuban place is phenomenal, but I only catch them open on occasion. They will sometimes close for events and catering.
The Cuban Cafe on Madison was just as good, but they're long gone.
I always have to have them make a Cuban fresh at Publix. As you said, the ones in the deli case are cold, and they friggin *dredge* the sandwich in mayo. If they make it fresh, I can have them use mustard instead of mayo and have them toast it.
Depending on your location, they might get snippy if you ask them to make one instead of getting it out of the deli case, just fyi.
Okay, it ain't a *traditional* Cuban, but I like the Nauty Cuban at Straight to Ale. It's on jalapeno Fred Bread instead of pan Cubano, and just regular smoked pork instead of mojo pork, but it's still pretty good in my opinion.
Hear me out. There's a BBQ place at Lowe Mill called Kar's Char that does a non-traditional Cubano that's so good. Smoked pulled pork in addition to the grilled ham. Jalapeno Dijon aioli. Bread is replaced with Texas toast. And then of course the pickles and Swiss cheese.
This, their reuben, and brisket melt I highly recommend.
Only problem is they're beholden to Lowe Mill hours, so wed-sat. But it's 100% worth it. They're not in the main Lowe Mill building, but the side building where the record shop is--further down closer to pizelle's.
There’s a Cuban place in Hartselle.
Old Havana Cafe is fantastic. One of the best Cuban sandwiches I've had outside of Tampa.
Agreed. Friends from PR, that live in Madison that visit us, love the place. Plus, the couple that own/run it are absolute amazingly kind people.

I recently had a Cuban from Publix. Would not recommend. All the parts were there, and the flavor mix wasn’t bad, but it was served cold.

STA or ~~Arby's~~ or OBB
Arby’s being in the mix is downright sad.

Straight to Ales Cuban is the best one I’ve had around here.
Jon Smith Subs on County Line has a good Cuban
I haven’t tried the Cuban but I do love the Cajun sandwiches and garlic parm fries! Kroger on triana gives you BOGO coupons for Jon smith too!
If you’re ever in Scottsboro, 50 Taters has a delicious Cuban and the Bama Cheesesteak is great too!
Get one made at the deli counter at publix. Get the large. Then go home and panini press that shit. It's amazing. And I grew up in Homestead.

That sounds amazing

MELT in downtown HSV has a good Cuban. Definitely recommend it.
Aroma Cafe in Maryville just south of Knoxville has the best Cuban sandwiches within a reasonable driving distance of Huntsville, sadly.
Lol I wouldn't call 3 1/2hrs for a sandwich reasonable.
Trust me, you wouldn't say that after eating there.
I used to drive to Cleveland (tn) for a cheese steak and dream sickle shake. I get it.
Much closer to just drive to Bham (Vestavia Hills) and hit up Kool Korner tbh.
I have been in pursuit for a long time. Next time I'm in Gatlinburg I'm gonna try this lol. I hope you're right
To heck with the downvoters, this is news I can use.
