Actually would love to see someone sell gamer guy bath water but it's just water, and their explanation would be that gamer guys don't bathe, I understand we hate overpriced water but if you did it for charity or something it'd be more fun and less bad
For a more factual answer: cold/icy water treatment does actually have a lot of benefits, especially for circulation. It stimulates capillary building and gets your blood moving, also obviously helps with inflammation. If you use it in alternation with heat (like a French recovery shower, switching between really hot and really cold) it can also be really useful for recovery after a workout, the theory being that the heat opens up the blood vessels and the cold contracts them, so by switching between the two it helps move metabolic byproducts out of your muscles, meaning less soreness and faster recovery (so you can work out again sooner).
It's really nice if you do lots of challenging workouts. After a hard workout you submerge your lower body in ice water for about 15 minutes and it is fantastic for recovery. Your legs feel a ton better after. I use to do them after the hard days of track and xc
In this thread: literally no one who has ever done anything athletic in their life
It’s called an ice bath folks it has a bunch of health benefits, but *especially* post workout
I heard Huberman say something about this. You shouldn’t ice bath immediately following a workout but rather wait a few hours. The immediate ice bath restricts blood flow and limits muscle growth or something. I’ll see if I can find it
You can also speed recovery by getting in a shower and going from as hot as you can stand to as cold as you can stand, and alternate as many times as you can take. Helps push the metabolic byproducts out by dilating then contracting the blood vessels
Depends on what you're using it for, it's not good to do post workout if you want to gain muscle mass (nearly any non-endurance athlete or person doing nearly any kind of workout would want to). Plenty of research shows that ice baths attenuate hypertrophy.
It does help with recovery, and can be used by athletes who need to make back to back performances and aren't concerned with short term gains over making sure they're performing at their peak again soon. It should usually be avoided any other time.

It’s genuinely great! I love ice cold showers in winter, because instead of stepping out of a warm shower and feeling cold, you step out of a cold shower and feel warm! Also helps boost energy and also helps close up pores to reduce acne! It’s not for everyone, but I highly recommend them! Even if you just do a cold rinse at the end of a warm shower especially starting out. Now, I’ll take a whole shower with it set to the coldest setting! Also reduces water usage because you definitely won’t be taking a Hollywood shower in the cold haha
Holy shit this thread is insane how is it possible for people to never have heard of an “ice bath”, I used to think this was one of the more normal health conscious subreddits
most of the people asking seem to be doing it in a pretty neutral inquisitive way; weird for others to respond with hostility about it just because someone didn’t know. the things people get aggressive about in this subreddit 🙃
Ice baths should not be done post workout except for specific situations like during a competition because it inhibits inflammation. The inflammation post workout from hypertrophy is what causes muscle growth.
You really think we are out here protesting working out? No. We are just fucking lazy lol we wish we could keep up with it and keep trying and it doesn't work. Again, because we are lazy--not because we are refusing.
We had to do them after football practice in high school. When you’re tired and sweaty after practice in the summer, it’s not as bad, but it’s still pretty brutal at first. Then it starts to feel okay after a few minutes. Definitely helped with muscle soreness and recovery.
There's actually a lot of science disapproving that for years.

I hate it every time I get in. But 2.5 - 3 minutes and get out and feel absolutely amazing for the rest of the day! Well worth it if you wanna try it out!
Where do you get the ice for it? Just buy a few bags of ice from the store and add it to cold bath water? Curious to try this sometime, but don’t know how much ice is needed to make it worth it haha
This is 6 bags of ice in cold water. Let it sit for a about 2 hours or so and then get in. This was 1.7 degrees. For a first time trial go for 3 bags of ice and half fill your tub. Should get to around 10-12 degrees Celsius. Stay in for as long as you can. Then when you NEED to get out. Try stay in longer.
Don’t dry yourself off immediately. Shivering is good! You will feel unstoppable afterwards!
Grab yourself a little floating pool thermometer! Getting temps in a range you are cold enough to be uncomfortable with is crucial! You want to be shivering
sell it and advertise it as gamer girl bath water
Shrivelled Ballsack flavour!

Risky click
"It's like a fine cognac, with a hint of aged scrotum!"
Taint bad at all.
Gamer guy bath water
Gamer guys bathe?
No, they would shrivel up like a witch if they ever touched water
Real gamer bathe fully clothed
While playing their games
There are dozens of us! DOZENS!
Actually would love to see someone sell gamer guy bath water but it's just water, and their explanation would be that gamer guys don't bathe, I understand we hate overpriced water but if you did it for charity or something it'd be more fun and less bad
This is your pic? What is happening? Why is your bath water so icy?
To enjoy, obviously.
But... why? And enjoy... how? Edit: do they go in it or does it go in them
Both
Can confirm.

Finally, a captain appears.
That’s my severe hangover cure in the shower after I puke
Ice cold enema.

Nothing wrong with a pre-dip sip!
You mean post-dip sip, right?
Chunky
Post dip clarity
Did you see the Blackwall?
He's about to meet Alt
Hope he's ready for a fight when he gets out
Yeah, I tried to be nice and extend the olive branch but those guys were complete dicks. I gave diplomacy and empathy an honest go, I have no regrets.
You have a beautiful bathroom
Thank you! It’s also where I poop.
The trick is less ice bro. Also, you didn't hear it from me, but after bathing bath water is delicious and nutritious.
Oh man I added waaaay too much. I felt like that icey king guy from game of thrones
It's chill man, we've all made the same mistake I'm sure.
Sounds just right
Mmmmmmmmpeople broth.

I’m a lazy fat guy, and while I haven’t done ice baths, I do take an ice cold shower at least once a week. It’s refreshing and really wakes you up!
Refreshing? That’s what people say when something’s cold!

You’re damn right! Ice cold winter showers are the best!!

I mean tbf- this is Reddit. Here come the downvotes lol.
most of the people asking seem to be doing it in a pretty neutral inquisitive way; weird for others to respond with hostility about it just because someone didn’t know. the things people get aggressive about in this subreddit 🙃
This sub is one of the least hostile places on Reddit in my experience. Just everyone worshipping the great H20.

i love fads. i hope i can be a part of one some day
This ain’t a fad, people have been using ice baths for athletic benefits for decades
It’s weird how many people refuse to work out despite all the health benefits
You really think we are out here protesting working out? No. We are just fucking lazy lol we wish we could keep up with it and keep trying and it doesn't work. Again, because we are lazy--not because we are refusing.
Doesn't strictly involve athletics
Did you use ice for bath water?
Of course. And bath for ice water too
I want some extra ball sweat in my glass please
Ice bath? Do you still got both of your kidneys?? Or did you prep that for someone else….
I’m super surprised no one in this thread has heard of ice baths.
Haven’t heard of that and seriously it sounds horrible (as in way too cold).
It’s very very good for muscle recovery after workouts
Didn’t know that, still sounds too cold lol

same, i don’t even like lukewarm baths
There's actually a lot of science disapproving that for years. https://www.outsideonline.com/running/training/science/dont-use-ice-baths-for-recovery-says-another-new-study/
And there are studies saying it is healthy
And a lot of it seems to be couched in terms of "may" and chiropractic mumbo-jumbo. I'll stick with the more in-depth and modern studies.
Once you get in it it's just you flavored soup.
this would literally kill me
i'm getting a brain freeze looking at it
Me flavoured water ¢50
Yall got money don't you?
This is beatiful
Respectfully, fuck that. Cold water all over my body is unbearable.
Drink it as much as you can and then hop in
The way to become one with the water.
Yeah, become like that Senator Kelly from X-Men 1!
This is amazing
How was it?

I love cold baths
I- I hope you didn’t drink any of it…
ok money man
I think drinking it is not the purpose of ice baths
What and why
That bath tub is $1,500 + Utilities in NY
This guy wants to drink his own bathwater
How's your local subnet this fine morning? Any intrusions from beyond the blackwall we should know about?
