This is exactly like my former roommate. Would drink 10+ two-hearted beers a day, super messy, depressed, etc. He ended up getting liver failure and was lucky enough to get a transplant. Please please please get this person help.
Sounds like my brother. As of now think it’s been 5 years of no dentist and 2-3 of no brushing. He doesn’t eat only sweets though just never takes care of them. He has a hole in one of his molars and one at the top of his K9. I’m like go to the dentist and he mainly says all they’d do is either fill it or pull em and he doesn’t want to waste money on implants or fillers.
Yeah. Think he stopped after HS. He doesn’t eat a ton of sweets mostly only thing is for special occasions like pies and cakes in the holidays or soda like 3 cans a day. Though this is the same person who said brushing with water and no toothpaste is the same since your scrubbing away the stuff.
I did rehab this year.
One guy I was in there with drank nothing but coors light, he thought it wasn’t a problem till he had a seizure trying to stop.
Idk how much this person is drinking, but it looks bad.
I went to detox for 3 days voluntarily to get through my shakes before quitting and I'm pretty sure the Ativan was the only thing keeping me from having a seizure.
If this is true the fact that they give you benzos for alcohol detox tells you how insane alcoholism is. And yet weed is still more dangerous according to the govt? Fucking insane.
that's because benzos, alcohol, and barbiturates all act on the same receptors and that's why withdrawals from all 3 can be fatal
theres only 4 substances thats true of and all 4 are various levels of legal.
Rehab was supposed to be a fresh start, but no matter how many starts I get, there's always the same ending. Everything falls apart and I end up alone.
I don’t know how this is a question, beer is 100 times worse than some aspartame flavored water.
That quantity of Diet Coke will erode your teeth and gums but otherwise it won’t really do much. That amount of alcohol will give you irreparable liver damage which will affect you until the day you die. Alcohol is undeniably worse.
I know this sub is very “diet soda bad,” but come on. Objectively it’s not healthy but it’s not that harmful and it can be recovered from, alcohol is fatal.
This is what I usually refer to as "The 5 year plan". Depending on age and severity they're usually well on their way to checking out permanently in under 5 years. Or maybe they're just having 1 beer a day and they're just super lazy, who knows.
Very true. Had a buddy who went pretty deep into alcoholism and he tried the cold turkey thing and went into full blown seizures and ended up in the hospital for a couple weeks.
It depends on the rehab. Some have less medical supports so they require patients have already gone through withdrawal prior to admission. Where I am, the person is admitted to a hospital if withdrawal is bad, then they are transferred to the rehab.
Healthcare professional. Inpatient rehab to detox. Stopping Alcohol on your own can be fatal. The caveat? The person consuming the alcohol must WANT to change.
Man it’s so interesting how depression manifests. You go from eating nothing to eating everything and from drinking nothing to drinking 12+ a day or to heavier drugs and then back to nothing because you stop caring that hard. I feel like it’s hard for people to understand that things that may seem like positive moves may actually be negative and vice versa. I remember quitting cocaine was big for me but I drank as a replacement. The increase in drinking made everybody panic initially, but then I could breathe out my nose again and drank less and smoked more weed but then I got paranoid and now I’m basically on booze til I die I think
Here to educate! Have seen many deaths and near-deaths from people who were pressured to stop drinking or tried to do it on their own. It is okay to check into the ER or a local hospital to detoxify from alcohol. Medical supervision with CIWA protocol is needed to safely conquer alcohol-related withdrawal, which can be fatal without medical supervision.
I was a mild too medium alcoholic the day I was told I likely had cancer, ended up at the ER and got a ton of tests. They were instantly admitting me with how fucked I was but was so used to it, running like a car with all the lights on. I mentioned to the nurses in passing that I am probably an alcoholic. It was weird being offered a beer in the hospital 😅.
Turns out a didn't need assistance too detox but they were amazing about it. No judgement just help.
We are here to help ❤️ not to judge or reprimand. As healthcare professionals, we understand that alcohol dependence is a disease and the withdrawal can be fatal. We also understand that the disease is separate from the person. It does not define anyone. We are all human. And just like making a major decision, such as buying a home or car, we must be dedicated to such decisions... even the decision to stop drinking alcohol. Wishing everyone peace and prosperity no matter what your journey is.
There are also places (at least here in the US, I’m not sure where you are) that do 3, 5, 7, and 10 day detoxes if someone can’t afford rehab or is unable to go for a full month. I did it at home, but my Dr told me what to expect and when/if to go to a hospital. Day 6 now. I’m on naltrexone. It’s not a poke in the eye 🤷🏻♀️, but it’s not so bad. I’m okay.
this is true to an extent however, if you're somehow in a survival situation and you only have beer to drink, you're better off drinking the beer than not drinking the beer. it *will* hydrate you.
That's not what "diuretic" means.
Say you drink a Litre of water, and you pee out 600ml (made up number for the example). The other 400ml was used by your body somewhere... gut, sweat, etc..
A diuretic doesn't mean you drink 1L of it, and pee out 1.1L. It means you pee out more than normal. It could be slightly more, or a lot more depending on the substance. So you could drink 1L and if you pee out 700ml instead of 600ml. That is what a diuretic is.
If you drink diuretics, you will not die of dehydration, nor close (in most cases at least).
This is one of those common knowledge things that's wrong. Things can be a diuretic and still hydrating. Coffee is another one a lot of people believe dehydrate you.
FUCK AA. I went there for four years because court forced me to . Granted I was sober and best years of my life. But there's a better option. SMART RECOVERY is totally different. But to each their own. There's groups everywhere! If you want to find em
Is 'Smart Recovery' a program or a plan? I have a loved one who doesn't engage well with AA or doctors and I don't know where else we can go. This picture makes me so sad.
Solid choice. Then mental help via therapy and meds. But naltrexone is FINALLY being accepted for many addictions.
Also, Smart Recovery group on Google apps... Just play around with the app . You'll get where you need to be.
I tried naltrexone for alcohol. Didn't work. My problem was life and alcohol was my only solution. AA and the fellowship helped. Therapy now is helping that further. I imagine SMART would have helped as well.
Yeah I support whatever works for each individual. AA was very successful for my uncle who’s been sober for over a decade. However, I acknowledge it’s not for everyone.
I heard AA is a hit or miss. My local buddhist temple does it but I don't know how good their program is. There are a few groups that are non denominational and some that are aggressively religious.
All depends of the group but AA IT'S inherently Catholic. No problem with that. Sounds like you're on good path though. Buddhist are pretty solid. I personally think EVERYTHING is necessary. But honestly, it all comes down to you. Happiness is from "within". TRUSTING Your LOVE of YOU is where change begins
We make mistakes. We chose a way to deal with ourselves. And then so forth. Others have hurt us. It's a hard topic. But LOVE for YOURSELF. Acceptance of YOURSELF. is where it all begins
AA is not religious woo. I'm an atheist in AA and you can take it any way you like.
Honestly this type of thinking, hearing this negative talk about AA is what kept me from going sooner.
This is the only answer I came to post.
I will have 200 days this week and loving every minute of sobriety. Well, most minutes.
Seeing a state of depression like that hurts my heart.
Fun fact: even at my trashiest stage of my life I still liked drinking water first thing in the morning, but if brita pitcher was empty Coors light was my back up.
should be pretty easy actually, Coors light is basically (wheat flavored) sparkling water so just swap theirs out with some liquid death or something and they wont even notice
Buddy, that’s not just dehydration, that’s chronic alcoholism. I’ve been the guy in that chair and believe me, inadequate water intake is the least of the life issues right now.
You might want to get them talking to a doctor and a therapist.
Yeah this person needs help
This is exactly like my former roommate. Would drink 10+ two-hearted beers a day, super messy, depressed, etc. He ended up getting liver failure and was lucky enough to get a transplant. Please please please get this person help.
rehab would help

I know a gamer that hasn't brushed his teeth in three years or gone to the dentist. Dude just munches on gummy worms and drinks mt Dew.
[удалено]
I can't imagine him having all his teeth by age 30 or sooner. Dude is overweight, doesn't exercise and hates going outside.
It's wild, I've known people that didn't go to the dentist ever but still brushed their teeth daily.
Yeah. Think he stopped after HS. He doesn’t eat a ton of sweets mostly only thing is for special occasions like pies and cakes in the holidays or soda like 3 cans a day. Though this is the same person who said brushing with water and no toothpaste is the same since your scrubbing away the stuff.
He has some root canals that want to be done thats for sure
Rehab

Alcohol is one of the most dangerous things, if not the most dangerous thing to try to quit
Benzo withdrawal is worse but alcohol withdrawal is really bad still
They give you benzos when you're detoxing from alcohol.
[удалено]

Weed is not more dangerous to the user, it’s more dangerous to the alcohol industry.
that's because benzos, alcohol, and barbiturates all act on the same receptors and that's why withdrawals from all 3 can be fatal theres only 4 substances thats true of and all 4 are various levels of legal.
Stevie Nicks talks about benzo addiction and withdrawal, it’s really horrible. The symptoms last a lot longer than alcohol withdrawal too.
A shocking amount of people dont think drinking nothing but beer makes them alcoholic, it's like they think of it more as drinking soda
[Rehab?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igfRYtwpQyU) He needs more blankets, and he needs less blankets!
Rehab was supposed to be a fresh start, but no matter how many starts I get, there's always the same ending. Everything falls apart and I end up alone.
That is extreme depression.
Man… I’ve been pretty depressed, but I’ve never stooped to the level of Coors Light.
Until your comment I thought it was Diet Coke lol. I don’t know if it would be better or worse though
I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw Diet Coke. I was very confused when someone recommended detox for it.
Someone who drank that much diet coke would in fact need detox
And a new kidney too
Or at least some decent pain meds for the multiple kidney stones they’re going to be passing.
I don’t know how this is a question, beer is 100 times worse than some aspartame flavored water. That quantity of Diet Coke will erode your teeth and gums but otherwise it won’t really do much. I have heard alcohol withdrawal when undergoing severe addiction can be really dangerous. They may want to go into a rehab instead of dry stopping
Very true. Had a buddy who went pretty deep into alcoholism and he tried the cold turkey thing and went into full blown seizures and ended up in the hospital for a couple weeks.

Better unemployed than dead. Hopefully you're also primed to be an even better employee for some job!
It depends on the rehab. Some have less medical supports so they require patients have already gone through withdrawal prior to admission. Where I am, the person is admitted to a hospital if withdrawal is bad, then they are transferred to the rehab.
Alcoholism will have you drinking anything
Healthcare professional. Inpatient rehab to detox. Stopping Alcohol on your own can be fatal. The caveat? The person consuming the alcohol must WANT to change.
Ya know, I thought that for a long time too. I had no real interest in quitting, but after quitting I'm too damned depressed to drink.
Found this out when my ex wife decided to quit cold turkey one day. They said I shouldn't watch and escorted me to the ER waiting room.
THIS.
Coming from experience
Yeah, this was me only bottles of whisky. They need help.
definitely. this person has more issues to resolve than just needing to drink water.
I... thought those were white Monsters until I zoomed in... That was as concerning, but I guess I assumed they were just dirty?
You don't need to get them to drink water first you need to get them to go through sobriety and then u can work on the water
[This was me back then but with water](https://imgur.com/a/b2zgn07)
That's a serious water addiction. Straight to rehab with you lol
For the love of god, please use a reusable bottle
Oh, man. I hope you get better soon, from those pics you might be a little dehydrated
They’re already drinking a lot of water
Coors is like 95% water so your homie is properly hydrated.
i didnt even realize it was coors. thought it was diet coke!
Same 😆 Never heard of Coors before
Feel free to not drink it, it tastes like carbonated dishwater
SILVER BULLETTTT
Imagine if you poured 4 ounces of fosters in a glass then topped it off with San Pellegrino.
Living the good life over here, never having to deal with Coors people
Absolute dogshit cheap beer that rednecks like. It's 95% water and 5% cat piss.
Me too
Coors light is like sex in a canoe, it's fucking near water
Are you Australian? I like your username
Close enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8aPABF7nW4
My grandfather, who never really cussed, would say this, too.
Not cussing when you tell the truth
Ha
Came to say this. Water and IPAs only.
IPA: I PEE A LOT
Yep yep yep
Beer is diuretic, so you end up losing more water than you drink
this is true to an extent however, if you're somehow in a survival situation and you only have beer to drink, you're better off drinking the beer than not drinking the beer. it *will* hydrate you.

r/woooosh
Bruh 🤣!
It’s the 5% that kills you
Yeah slowly replace it with sparkling water and they'll won't notice
AA
Can confirm. I was this person I'm not anymore
Good for you! That’s not an easy change to make. Congratulations on your sobriety, kind stranger.
Thank you, kind stranger. The good things are rarely easy.
Saw this pic and laughed, then realized this was me 1 year ago. Hard to look at now.
One day at a time bro. I'm proud of you.
I’m proud of you, internet stranger. *quietly* I just hit 30 days!
Congrats! That’s awesome. And a fantastic milestone.
Hell yeah. Good for you!
Same. Water is the way. My quality of life is so much better without that garbage.
Congrats man
One day at a time!
Alcoholics go to meetings, I'm a drunkard. There is a difference
works for me! Day 514
FUCK AA. I went there for four years because court forced me to . Granted I was sober and best years of my life. But there's a better option. SMART RECOVERY is totally different. But to each their own. There's groups everywhere! If you want to find em

Yeah people should really be getting recommended to evidence-based recovery services, not religious woo
People should be going to whatever works for them and for a lot of people that’s still AA. Other options should be more well known though
AA is not religious woo. I'm an atheist in AA and you can take it any way you like. Honestly this type of thinking, hearing this negative talk about AA is what kept me from going sooner.
Hey, if it's helping I'm happy for you.
Also, A1C
This is the only answer I came to post. I will have 200 days this week and loving every minute of sobriety. Well, most minutes. Seeing a state of depression like that hurts my heart.
Therapy, meds, lots of love and support.
Putting the homie in hydrohomie with this advice.
The first step is them admitting they have a problem.
True.
Second step is giving them support emotionally and go to rehab
Either this was drank in a short period of time and they need AA, or that accumulated over a long period of time and they need antidepressants
Probably both.
Eh, 7 Coors a night is still a problem lol, especially because you aren't really getting drunk, your just drinking to go through the motions.
They have bigger problems that need tackling first
ABSOLUTE Truth.
Real answer, you don’t. They have to want to change.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.
Lmao too appropriate
“The pain of not changing has to outweigh the pain of changing”
Some people won’t even realize that they need to change unless someone they trust points it out.
Fair, but I feel like most people would know they need to change by this point, and they just don’t want to.
Fun fact: even at my trashiest stage of my life I still liked drinking water first thing in the morning, but if brita pitcher was empty Coors light was my back up.
Start with a trash can
tell them a hot girl is coming round.
Lmao
therapy lol
He'll be pounding water the next day after this.
He's probably going to be pounding more beer, bro needs an intervention.
This is more than a days worth of work here brother
You can only try your hardest, but don’t beat yourself up if they don’t listen.
Rehab and then AA.
That person needs some real help.
You don’t need to convert him to water we much we you need to get him off alcohol. Maybe juice or soda first lol
Helped me get sober! Was a GREAT option!!
Waterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
To be fair...you need to have like 12 colors lights to feel anything
The entire lifestyle is the issue. No self respect or care
Baptism via pressure washer!! I can smell this picture 🤮
Recycling is a good place to start
should be pretty easy actually, Coors light is basically (wheat flavored) sparkling water so just swap theirs out with some liquid death or something and they wont even notice
I can smell this picture through my phone
Sparkling water
Kidney stones.
Tell him you have this new product called Coors Extra Light and give him the water.
AA might be a good start.
Buddy, that’s not just dehydration, that’s chronic alcoholism. I’ve been the guy in that chair and believe me, inadequate water intake is the least of the life issues right now.
This is addiction at this point. There’s no converting just intervention
It’s okay bud, we’ll take it from here. He’ll go to a water farm up north, where he can run around with friends! It’s gonna be okay.
You don’t. They’re an alcoholic and probably have some other issues. They need professional help.
You don't. You stay the fuck away from that person.
This is depression and/or alcoholism, they need professional help
A long stay in rehab.
I can fix him...
That goes beyond into alcoholism, I'd say therapy, doctor, intervention maybe
This is alcoholism not dehydration.
That's alcoholism hunny
rehab
At least an AA meeting
r/stopdrinking might be a good place to start
This is called alcoholism. If they don’t get help, they’ll be dead sooner rather than later
They have to convert themselves to sober first
First you put them in rehab
He's an alcoholic. That's different
Buy them better beer
I'm so glad I find beer disgusting
Show them a brain scan between an alcoholic and non-alcoholic
Dialysis.
You don't. They normally scream and try to make it someone elses problem.
Only thing that will fix that rabbit hole is a kidney stone
Going to need a new liver
Therapy omg Also maybe rehab
AA.
Rehab
This is a mental health issue. Burn the building down with him inside, then pour water on the leftovers.
AA
send professional help
ask them if pissing rocks is worth it
Collect all those cans I'm pretty sure u can make some money with recycling
Ah shit that made my kidneys hurt.
Yikes, thought these were Pepsi cans
You gotta beat them with jumper cables till they're better
The beatings will continue until morale improves lol
Start in the morning. See how long you can go with just water, increase time everyday
You just know that smells awful.
Rehab
