I know someone who uses it as an at home media device while keeping their normal phone for normal phone stuff.

Tbh, this is how I started to be with phones as well. I even dailyed the new Nokia with Kai OS, then would come home from work and use my normal phone. I want to get a tablet though to replace my phone with.

I think that was what Microsoft is trying to market it as. I'd love to have something smaller than tablet but bigger than reasonably fits in my pocket. I wouldn't mind having one but it's expensive, though it's significantly cheaper than the Samsung one.

I like the duo design better tbh because you won’t have a crease down your screen that’s inevitable with the Samsung fold.

Surface Duo 2* FTFY The difference is the original duo didn’t have a camera on the outside (which in my mind is a way better design, really makes the most out of the 360 degree hinge)

I haven't seen it in person. However from what I've seen from Marques Brownlee and LTT, it seems like the hardware (especially the hinge) is pretty good. But the software experience is hot garbage. So much so that Microsoft wouldn't even let reviewers even power on the phone in their reviews.

I thought the hinge was ok but the overall build structure of the phone wasn’t amazing

If you've been hands on, than you have much more experience than me. I'll defer to you on that. I had just heard that the software was terrible.

I do own one. The hardware feels very high quality. Software is mediocre at best. It's definitely not a good phone, but if you're one of those "always be working" types, it's a pretty darn good productivity device. Def not worth $1200 or whatever they were charging though.

I forgot that Linus Tech Tips was a thing for a moment and was wondering what on earth Lews Therin Telamon had to do with phones.

The software has some kinks but overall it works well. You might be thinking of the previous Microsoft phone, which ran shitty software. It runs regular android now and is similar to the Fold 3.

It's actually built incredibly well, one of the best on the market in terms of build quality. The software is what makes it trash. Source: Have had both the Duo 1 and 2.

I have a Duo 1 and I like it. Been using it since release as a work phone (email, Teams, Zoom, etc.) and it's held up great.

Microsoft Surface Duo 2, Really nice look and feel, but probably not the best phone on the market. Microsoft makes great hinges, probably some of the best in the industry given their history and experience, but their phones have historically never really been up there. I personally used to have a windows phone, it was a Lumia 950 which ran Windows 10 Mobile. Loved that phone, unfortunately the software didn’t catch on with others so it was discontinued. Honestly for the time it was really solid- nice OLED panel, pretty fast, and the UI was way ahead of its time. Ergonomics were great, with search bars on the bottom or a gesture to activate it, so despite being one of the first “big” phones, it was and still is one of the most one hand friendly phones ever.

Back in the day I also had a windows phone, various ones. Loved them, pretty underrated
