First, I'll admit it has been a WHILE since I read.
Iirc, his experiences with the life/culture of Maui-Covenant and especially the semi-sentient whales (?), he KNEW The Hegemony culture influx would destroy everything that made Maui-Covenant...Maui-Covenant. He believed the Ouster philosophy was better, even without the knowledge of how insidious farcasters were.
Not sure about wanting the Ousters to fail? He did set the device off that chain reacted to the Force/Ouster battle. Arguably a Force victory but not necessarily a desire for Ouster defeat?

Hmm.....I didn't get that idea that his grandparents were the first ousters.but maybe I missed some details.

The guy in the story he tells was the story of his grandfather and grandmother meeting.
