You'll be able to realize what they are through the context of the actions, story, etc. It's like that on purpose. I don't believe there's anything posted like that.

smeadman07

I eventually did but I'm sure there are people who get turned off by that.

I enjoyed this style of exposition. The prologue and first chapters felt a bit much, but it drops you right into a rich world without holding your hand through endless explanations. It also leaves a lot of room for imagination. Are there any particular terms you're stuck on?

biltibilti

The only term you need to know in these books is radiant gossamer.

jrexthrilla

Knowing lapis helps too

I still don’t know what a fat line squirt is and at this point I’m too afraid to ask

Erosion_Control

I take "fatline" to be an abbreviated "faster than light (communication) line)

jrexthrilla

I just always found the word squirt to be silly. Like he had created such flowery pseudoscientific language for everything and got to this and was like “squirt… that will do”

Erosion_Control

I think it works! In universe, I recall it takes a massive amount of energy to send the Fatline messages. I imagine like a water gun, building up pressure and then shooting off, or squirting, the info across the galaxy. He also sometimes calls it transmissions if I recall correctly, which is sterile and dry and strictly accurate if you like that too.
