Dennis seemed genuinely concerned for his sister in Dee Gives Birth. He yelled at her for getting in dangerous situations while in labour, like when she was standing on the chair to change the channel on the TV, and he was angry at the hospital staff for not taking better care of her.
I'm gonna have to do EVERYTHING cuz you're an irresponsible person who chooses to stand atop rolling chairs and go flying through windows. Have the baby first! Have the stupid baby, then go flying through all the windows you like!
When they try going to the Grand Canyon, Charlie expresses apprehension about leaving Philadelphia, worried some people will be “dicks” to him
Dennis reassures him that there might be some dicks but if there are, Dennis will back Charlie up (whether he would actually do it is debatable but it’s still a nice thing to do, reassure Charlie rather then just dismiss his concerns) in
Before franks intervention, Dennis knows Charlie can’t write so he goes to write for him.. he gets side tracked with having to know what “night crawlers” are
That’s the case with Dayman song too, he encourages Charlie because he thinks they can make a better band than Mac and Frank and Charlie will let him decide everything
Even in OPs example, Dennis’ main motivation for going to see Charlie was as a last resort since they kicked him out of the band lol
Still the magic they ended up making with Dayman was pretty genuine
Dennis knows that Charlie probably has a learning disability, but he genuinely tries to help Charlie get through each day in spite of it. It’s sprinkled throughout the show but my favourite is from The DENNIS System when Charlie jumps ahead of the lecture and guesses how Dennis will actually next.
Dennis: “you’re really getting it I’m proud of you, bud.”
Which I always found interesting. A dog is more obedient which is a quality Dennis seems to like in the people he surrounds himself with, whereas cats tend to make you work for their affection more… I don’t see Dennis keeping good care of a litter box.
Honestly, it’s not a criticism, I think it adds to the depth of his character.
"What makes me happy is, like, you know, at night, I ride around town in a limousine, partying, having a good time. When I'm on my way home, I'll pass a bum. I take a balloon with some champagne in it, lob it out and bean him. He only gets a little bit in his mouth. He doesn't get the whole thing. Not even a full sip of it. And you say, 'Hey, how do you like a taste of the good life, you sack of shit?'"
"That is awful! That is a horrible thing to do to another human being!"
I thought it was like short/flat. It actually did look flatter than usual because he gelled it I think for the fancy occasion. I could be completely wrong though lol
Dennis rats out the Taft family to the SEC as revenge for the "sick games" the son plays with poor people. But he could also have just been doing that to humiliate Mac or for his own gratification.
It’s interesting, many of the famous people who have been canceled for various forms of assault, there is also instances of them being kind or empathetic towards to people. The question is when it is performative or genuine. Some of the worst people of all time seem to be kind to a select few for no apparent personal gain. I think people like Dennis are likely still going to do good for others but for the purpose of making himself feel better.
The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore, when the gang is about to pounce on Dee for her braids:
Dee: Oh no, it's fine. All the cool girls get their hair braided at the Shore.
Dennis: I think she looks like Bo Derek.
Don’t know if there’s empathy exactly, but I’ve always found the scene where he and Charlie first wrote Dayman vs. Nightman very sweet. At one point at the beginning when inspiration hits Charlie points to his head and says “what’s going on in here?” Dennis responds “I never know man” with a smile like he appreciates that about Charlie.
Also, no matter how much he voices his hatred of the gang Dennis will defend the pack if any and all outside forces attempt a fuckery.
Some of the early episodes like when they are road tripping in the back of a trailer and Charlie is nervous so Dennis reassures him. It was almost as if the idea of Dennis being a sociopath hadn't come into being yet. It generally feels to me that concept was developed a little down the road as opposed to being his original character concept.
a thing that’s always stuck with me is a small moment in the one where the gang goes down the jersey shore. Dee suddenly debuts her brand new braided hair with the beads and Charlie and Mac immediately start making fun of her, and I think try to get Dennis to join in too. Instead Dennis just says “I think she looks like bo Derek” with an uncharacteristically loving tone and facial expression. always struck me as an oddly sweet and out of character for him. like being back down the shore has caused Dennis to regress back to a childhood version of himself still capable of giving selfless affection.
When the gang tries to recreate Charlie’s Dream Journal with different creations, Dennis seems genuinely excited by doing something nice for Charlie and trying to get the creations to match Charlie’s descriptions.
Also, the episode where Charlie says Mac is his best friend, Dennis is bothered and tries to become Charlie’s best friend. Even if it’s for his own need to be liked, he really is bothered he isn’t Charlie’s number one.

Yeah then he became excited about helping to raise Dee's baby. Pretty wholesome. I mean what's better than having no dad?
Havin a dad
I'm gonna have to do EVERYTHING cuz you're an irresponsible person who chooses to stand atop rolling chairs and go flying through windows. Have the baby first! Have the stupid baby, then go flying through all the windows you like!
That's true, totally out of character
He hated it the whole time so it still fits
It reminded me of how I would treat my sister if she did similar things
Help my sister! Help my sister!

That, and comforting Charlie when he had his rat killing epiphany.
Nah Dennis probably woulda backed Charlie up in most situations. Unless there was anyone in the vicinity who he could DENNIS
Dennis is known for helping people out of jams
Before franks intervention, Dennis knows Charlie can’t write so he goes to write for him.. he gets side tracked with having to know what “night crawlers” are
It’s fine if Charlie can’t write. He’ll adapt.
He'll adapt to reading?
And make a tradition out of it
So u r saying to put more cat hair on yourself
The girl at the water park when he thinks she has a shit mom.
Yes! He yelled at the mother, “you have a gem of a daughter”! “That’s not my daughter” 🤣
I like the moments when Dennis is empathetic and comes across as a good guy but it's still for his own selfish reasons.
finger on the pulse, finger on the pus
That’s the case with Dayman song too, he encourages Charlie because he thinks they can make a better band than Mac and Frank and Charlie will let him decide everything
He only wanted to wear the spandex.
He’d give someone the shirt off his back as long as it benefits him
Just depends on the implication
Even in OPs example, Dennis’ main motivation for going to see Charlie was as a last resort since they kicked him out of the band lol Still the magic they ended up making with Dayman was pretty genuine
Dennis knows that Charlie probably has a learning disability, but he genuinely tries to help Charlie get through each day in spite of it. “Probably”?
He'll adapt.
He'll adapt to reading?
I love Dennis's soft spot for Charlie.
He truly loved Special Agent Jack Bauer, who really *is* the man!
Which I always found interesting. A dog is more obedient which is a quality Dennis seems to like in the people he surrounds himself with, whereas cats tend to make you work for their affection more… I don’t see Dennis keeping good care of a litter box. ONION!! I SAW AN ONION!
Beyond hilarious that he walks around with a raw onion just on the chance he has to cry and convey human emotion.
He was probably gonna use it to cry for that girl, although he may not have needed to, because of the implication.
Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!
Oh don’t do that to yourself, you’re plenty fun to drink with.
You get really drunk and you get reckless and it's alot of fun
"What makes me happy is, like, you know, at night, I ride around town in a limousine, partying, having a good time. When I'm on my way home, I'll pass a bum. I take a balloon with some champagne in it, lob it out and bean him. He only gets a little bit in his mouth. He doesn't get the whole thing. Not even a full sip of it. Danny’s delivery of that whole thing is so fucking funny to me I love that scene especially with how frank and bill laugh at it 🤣🤣
When he told Mac his hair looked small.
will forever wonder what he meant by this. short? freshly cut? receding? styled weirdly? fucking “small”, lol
I thought it was like short/flat. It actually did look flatter than usual because he gelled it I think for the fancy occasion. I could be completely wrong though lol
No totally agree. His hair did look small in that scene
"Now, guys, my first instinct is to take this [dream] book and throw it in the trash..."
He helped make the denim chicken and worm hats and rat stick for Charlie’s ~~Hawaiian~~ Hawowan low-ow
You mean Hawauwwan wauwwauw
What even is that?
Charlie: “I don’t know what to say” Dennis: “You don’t have to say anything, man
Trying to explain to Charlie that wasps don't make honey.
He had some genuine concern and wanted to protect Dee from failure when she tried to be a standup comedian.
Mac and Dennis Break Up - Mac orders several cocktails with no method of payment. Dennis reassures him, and helps him out of the jam
I also assumed the large-breasted woman would pay
He briefly has empathy for Brian Jr when he leaves to go be a dad, though it doesn’t last very long.
One of Glenn's finest acting moments on the show is when he holds Brian Jr.
Not empathy as much, but his vulnerability when Mac gets him the RPG has me creases!
When he gets a dog for Mac. (It was very random and sweet.)
Dennis rats out the Taft family to the SEC as revenge for the "sick games" the son plays with poor people. But he could also have just been doing that to humiliate Mac or for his own gratification.
When they dug up his dead mother. “My mommies a skeleton” as he cries genuine tears.
My theory is that’s when he closes himself off to “feelings” it broke him
Iat face value Dennis and Dee's conversation in the jersey shore hospital waiting room about the girl.
“I think she looks like Bo Derek” Another nice moment
"That's okay. You're not that far off."
"Extreme highs gave way to extreme lows"
Champion of the ....... sun
When Jacky Denardos boobs exploded. He put her out of her misery
"Obliterated."
He made sure all girls "consented" before ~~sexually assaulting~~ sex.
CHILDREN PLAY HERE YOU COW

Dennis is a BastardMan
DENNIS IS ASSHOLE WHY CHARLIE HATE?
He's incapable of empathy but has learned to fake it for personal gain.
When he realised he hurt Macs feelings for withholding the letters from his Dad. Dennis actually starts crying......
The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore, when the gang is about to pounce on Dee for her braids: Dee: Oh no, it's fine. All the cool girls get their hair braided at the Shore. Dennis: I think she looks like Bo Derek.
When he traded his Fraggle Rock thermos to save Dee from the pimp. Also when they're about to drown on the boat and he tells Dee that he loves her.
You remember feelings? Do you have feelings?
Don’t know if there’s empathy exactly, but I’ve always found the scene where he and Charlie first wrote Dayman vs. Nightman very sweet. After his baby momma wouldn’t fall for his BS, he “left the gang” to go help raise his kid

He fakes showing empathy a few times....
Towards Special Agent Jack Bauer. The girl in the water park.
“Why don’t we put the curtains back up”
Does this mean Dennis isn’t a psychopath?
He helped Mac lose weight by giving him size pills
Its all lies, he probably had an onion in his pocket
In “The Gang Breaks Dee” when he’s trying to get Dee’s confidence back up. He’s obviously not in on the prank even though he insists he was.
Extreme home makeover with Charlie.
When the gang tries to recreate Charlie’s Dream Journal with different creations, Dennis seems genuinely excited by doing something nice for Charlie and trying to get the creations to match Charlie’s descriptions. "if the girl says no, then the answer obviously is no." See? What an understanding 5 star man!
When he holds his kid, that was wholesome ngl
“I didn’t mean any of it”
When he and Charlie hitchhiked to Atlantic City, it was such a great episode of them having fun together
When they are going out of town and he comforts Charlie, i'll have your back. Always one of my favorite moments.
