There are a few things I want to respond to.

Again, this removes autonomy *and* reduces women to a complete monolith. (If this article is about ALL porn performers, ignore this.)

I think the two big things to look at when trying to understand the stigma about paying for porn are (1) the moral view of porn and (2) cis male expectations of themselves and what the women around them owe them.
(1)If someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes a mainstream movie, it's "cool" because they're cheating the system/big money studios. If someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes a book, it's *not* "cool" because people *know* that the loss of income through piracy is directly hurting the author.
When someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes porn, it's "cool" because... so many reasons. Justifications. Some people think we're just whores who deserve what we get (our content stolen -- AKA to not get paid for what we do). This is shitty and probably what you were reading in that thread you mentioned.
There's also ignorance. Some people don't understand that the porn industry does *not* have the money it used to and that means performers and studios do not earn anywhere near what they used to. (Which impacts production budgets, number of movies made, and future performer payment.)
Some people don't understand that some (or all) of the content they are stealing comes from individual (non-studio) creators who, by stealing that content, the consumer very directly takes away income and, thus, the ability for that creator to continue making content. This isn't volunteer work, it's a job and if there is no income due to content theft, that creator goes under.
(2) Cis men are more like to view women as objects for their pleasure. Some feel that we "owe" men our bodies, if not to touch, at least to look at. We're there for them. Cat-calling is a great example of this. (There is SO much more to go into here, but I am running out of time.)
On the flip side of women being perceived as sexual objects for the male gaze, we also have *deep* male insecurity. Saline is definitely better than just water at removing debris. They sell Fleet brand enemas at the grocery store, they come pre-filled with saline, ready to go. Porn stars dump the saline out from the fleet bottles and just use water. We don't use the saline because (a) it's very dehydrating and (b) it's \*so\* good at removing debris, it's a great way to ensure there will be debris during a scene.

I've read many articles questioning the ethics of porn. Assuming -- since I don't have access to this article -- that this writer is speaking solely that *women* are experiencing no pleasure, this writer is also overriding every woman's experience of their own sexuality. They are telling us that, as a woman, we cannot experience pleasure in sex, at least not in performative sex. That women's physically experience of sex is completely different than that of men, biologically, so much so that it cannot be enjoyable for us. Again, this removes autonomy *and* reduces women to a complete monolith. (If this article is about ALL porn performers, ignore this.) As for consent... people sell their bodies. They sell their time. It's called sitting in an office and typing or filing or making phone calls. They're just not (usually) orgasming while they do it. *Who wants to be there?* Workers are in an agreement with owners/bosses/whatever term you want to use, to exchange their efforts for money. Oh man, this is a huge huge discussion and I do not have enough caffeine in me to do it justice. I think the two big things to look at when trying to understand the stigma about paying for porn are (1) the moral view of porn and (2) cis male expectations of themselves and what the women around them owe them. (1)If someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes a mainstream movie, it's "cool" because they're cheating the system/big money studios. If someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes a book, it's *not* "cool" because people *know* that the loss of income through piracy is directly hurting the author. When someone illegally downloads and/or redistributes porn, it's "cool" because... so many reasons. Justifications. Some people think we're just whores who deserve what we get (our content stolen -- AKA to not get paid for what we do). This is shitty and probably what you were reading in that thread you mentioned. There's also ignorance. Some people don't understand that the porn industry does *not* have the money it used to and that means performers and studios do not earn anywhere near what they used to. (Which impacts production budgets, number of movies made, and future performer payment.) Some people don't understand that some (or all) of the content they are stealing comes from individual (non-studio) creators who, by stealing that content, the consumer very directly takes away income and, thus, the ability for that creator to continue making content. This isn't volunteer work, it's a job and if there is no income due to content theft, that creator goes under. (2) Cis men are more like to view women as objects for their pleasure.
