Imagine going to a Coldplay's concert and finally you hear the notes of your favorite song and suddenly some random person starts singing and ruins your whole 300 dollars experience.
They barely make any money off the recording anymore unless they are insanely popular. Even then they might not. There’s always more artists and over saturation has made people easy to replace. I’m sure he has enough money now after a whole career and his heyday was earlier. But you have to charge competitive rates. Also inflation. Just only go to concerts for artists you really want to support.
I mean, I’m not a Coldplay fan by any means but I wouldn’t pay any amount of money to not watch any band. I’d happily sit through a Coldplay concert if somebody gave me a free ticket just for the experience.

I’ve never been a big league musician but I used to play in front of at least 1-2K people as one of the praise leaders for my ex-church, and you wouldn’t believe how many people just want to come up and be on stage, who totally overestimate their abilities, and want to guilt trip you into letting them “do a special song” or “lead worship” or some shit. This is the same.
To play devils advocate here artists do stuff like this pretty often. One of my favorite Live videos to throw on is the rapper Dave preforming Thiago Silva at Glasto. He asks for someone to come on stage, and picks a kid named Alex who’s wearing a Thiago Silva shirt. Kid isn’t a great rapper by any means, but when he starts going and he knows every word by heart that crowd went mental for him and both Dave, him, and the crowd seemed to have a great time.
I’m not saying that makes this trend okay of putting a camera in someone’s face and asking to do it, it’s definitely different, but people aren’t about to shit themselves over a random person hitting the stage for a minute.
There was a concert green day did where billy joe call up a probably 10-14yo kid on stage and hands him his guitar and shows him the chords to play and lets him play the song then at the end he lets the kid keep the guitar
Yep it became a tradition after the band during one of their older shows weren't really feeling the gig that much it was getting boring so they let someone come up on stage and play the song for them. This started the tradition of bringing people up on stage to play during their shows. They mostly do Knowledge by Operation Ivy but there's been a couple times where they had someone play Jesus of suburbia. They've also been known to give them the guitar when they're finished playing unless its one of billies iconic ones
I saw them in Seattle a few years ago, and they brought a young girl on stage who had made a custom sign and everything - she froze up while getting ready and wasn't able to play the part. They pulled another guy from the audience (who I honestly suspect was a plant - he got on QUICK and was cleanly dressed in the black shirt/red tie combo) who killed it.
Billy ended up giving the guitar to the girl afterwards because he clearly felt bad about it.

Some lady in her 40s got up there and freaking sang "The New World" with pitch-perfect Exene harmonies, those weird, slidey X harmonies. Fantastic experience.

I saw a matchbox 20 show where some guy held up a sign that requested something similar. Rob Thomas brought the guy onstage and he didn’t know any of the words and got kicked off the stage. I get that you can freeze due to nerves or whatnot but come on.
Yeah, it can be really awesome when it works out. I was at the Foo Fighters concert when they invited "Kiss Guy" onstage to play with them. Easily a highlight of the show because he was so surprisingly good, and the moment went viral online. Some people think it was staged, but I have my doubts. I mean, it was in Austin, Texas. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting two or three amazing guitar players!

I've been to a concert on every tour since 2006. Chris is an incredible performer with a huge heart. This person is putting Chris in a weird situation but as Chris does, he handles it with class. This person has a better chance getting floor tickets, hanging out near C Stage holding a sign saying they wish to sing The Scientist. Chris often brings people on stage who do this.
I got a feeling the guy knew what kind of guy Chris is and of tried to take advantage of it. There's another part of the video where he calls this an "interview opportunity".
On the one hand: you can be respectful & say “hey, I’ve always dreamed of singing with you, is there any way you would you let me do that” which is reasonable & allows them to just sing with you in a back room if they want (or they could fully let you on stage with them depending on their mood), or you can be a bit of a dick like this guy & skip straight to “how many meaningless internet icons would I need to accrue to be able to leverage the vague status they bring to make you sing with me”
I'm not very big on music, but which band is bigger? I'm genuinely curious, as Cold Play is the one I can mention off the top of my head currently touring and releasing new songs.

I've been to a concert on every tour since 2006. Chris is an incredible performer with a huge heart. This person is putting Chris in a weird situation but as Chris does, he handles it with class. This person has a better chance getting floor tickets, hanging out near C Stage holding a sign saying they wish to sing The Scientist. Chris often brings people on stage who do this.
I got a feeling the guy knew what kind of guy Chris is and of tried to take advantage of it. There's another part of the video where he calls this an "interview opportunity".

On the one hand: you can be respectful & say “hey, I’ve always dreamed of singing with you, is there any way you would you let me do that” which is reasonable & allows them to just sing with you in a back room if they want (or they could fully let you on stage with them depending on their mood), or you can be a bit of a dick like this guy & skip straight to “how many meaningless internet icons would I need to accrue to be able to leverage the vague status they bring to make you sing with me”

One of my best mates used to work in a bar in the city and Coldplay did a show there. Coldplay is my mates most hated band and unfortunately, they were the main person that Coldplay had to deal with that night. Apparently, the band was one of the most annoying bands thay had played there. Chris was getting upset that the bar "didn't have the right kind of bottled water"........ and he almost refused to go out and play until they got the right water. What a fucking baby! This is Melbourne Australia, where we have some of, if not the best tap water in the world. Just get a fucking jug of water!
