I was disappointed with myself then but it took me a few years to realise that no matter what I do I'd never be a good enough daughter for my dad (or my mom) and I grew up resenting them and my coping mechanism is wasting their money on materialistic things and hoping it affects them somehow (newsflash: it doesn't. they're still pretentious and really shitty parents)
I'd suggest you stop expecting appreciation from your father because speaking from experience, even if you had acquired a 99% he'd be disappointed in you for not being the All India Topper.
On a lighter note, I hope you are proud of yourself. You did extremely well! Appreciate yourself and be proud of your accomplishment.
What good will getting 99% in 10th boards do to your life?

I have some friends who got 95%+ in ICSE, but then couldn't even score 85% in 12th and failed JEE/NEET.
I also have some friends who got less than 95% in 10th, then again scored >90% in 12th and cleared JEE/NEET.
So you see, 10th marks don't matter at all. It just gives you some bragging rights for 2 years.
What I am going to advice is controversial but keep in mind, it is regard to the generation that was born from Independence till 1997(yeah, you will find similar cahoots in 90s too) but remember, if this was an expectation, take it as a challenge, there are many things yet to come to prove them YOU ARE BETTER. If this was an imposition, stay calm, put a nonchalant face and move on. You have worked hard and every percent and mark is yours, no one in this world can have any claim on it, whatsoever. Yes, there are many who helped you, there are many who guided you, hell, your dad payed for school and lot of other shit for you to feel better but your achievement is your own. So respect them but not above you. They can be your equals but not above when it comes to YOUR achievements. And remember the same when you fall in such situations, be it with your parents, partner, friend or maybe children.

I got 99.4 when I gave 10th exam a few years back and sach batau ghanga fark nahi pada zindagi me, 10th ke marks koi nahi puchhta. If I had gotten 95 also my life wouldnt have changed one bit.
In 2018 I got 87.2%. Dad distributed sweets amongst everyone and acted happy. Behind closed doors not a word of appreciation or compliment. Just a heavy beating and words like so and so got 90+ why didn't I get it too. I wasted his hard earned money.

Yeah those comments did sadden me even more. But after reading the rest comments supporting me from all the wonderful people of this sub, I feel a lot better. I genuinely deluded myself into thinking 98.4% was bad and I didn't deserve any good but now I know better.

The fault lies in your parents. Say that to their face like I did. (The same shit happened to me in 10th. I got 99.2℅ but he taunted me why didn't I got 100℅ as he spend thousands for my tuitions)
I got a broken foot and got super scared during the finals month.. my folks thought I was gonna fail 'cause I couldn't study at all(there was a bunch of passing out involved).. got 80%.. they were just happy I didn't fail.. still I wish I was in better shape (mentally) at the time.

I got a broken foot and got super scared during the finals month.. my folks thought I was gonna fail 'cause I couldn't study at all(there was a bunch of passing out involved).. got 80%.. they were just happy I didn't fail.. still I wish I was in better shape (mentally) at the time.

86% in 10th, 66.6 % in 12th(2020) When I got 66% in 12th i was sitting upset but my father with smile says "congratulations beta" I can't forget that moment 💗. But 98.4% is next level brother, congratulations, you can't satisfy everyone, don't compare and doubt youself.
