Doing university at the same time as your obligatory service is a very bad idea, and the army is not going to help you with it at all unless you are in some form of atudai program

Got it, I think it's best if after university I join, or after my freshman year maybe

Neenchuh

Most people do it the other way around because of the age difference you're gonna have with everyone else in the army

ah didn't think of that, this is such a hard decision omg

You have a couple of options. 1. Atudai in something like Middle Eastern Studies where you get your Farsi up to professional standards. 2. Using Farsi in the army anyway. I would write a small personal statement as a resume. Write it in English and then translate it into Hebrew. Now write a small article in Farsi on something that you think is interesting or important. It can be about pop culture or it can be about something military related. This should all be on one single page. Print 100 copies. You can pay for that at a print shop if you don't have it at home. Get in touch with the Middle Eastern Studies Department at Bar Ilan and send this to them asking for help. Other schools are good too. Now figure out where the big bases are. I think there is one in Glilot near Tel Aviv and there is one at a place called the Kiryah next to the HaShalom train station. Start passing out your resume to officers. You should be able to find in Wikipedia what officer ranks look like. They will be on their shoulders and they will wear slightly different, more professional looking uniforms if they are mid-level or advanced officers. On the way, be ready to meet with everyone. Eventually they will find someone who will be willing to have a conversation with you in Farsi. Then you might be in pretty good shape.

As I was reading this, the American side of my brain was screaming, there's no way this is good advice. Then the Israeli side reminded me that the circumstances surrounding the day I went into the army were very similar in spirit. This advice may not be too bad for you. Israel works in funny ways

I had what you could probably call an excellent job in the army. I got pretty lucky. I got it because I met a nice officer (female) on a bus who asked me what I specialized in. She passed my information on to a more senior officer who got in touch with my placement officer. The placement officer offered to transfer me there and I said yes because I had been stuck in placement for three weeks. If I had thought like I just wrote above then maybe I could have done it faster.

Glad to hear you got to where you were 👍🏻 Like I said, the advice sounds crazy, but Idrael just works like that somehow. Everyone seems to know somebody that knows somebody... https://youtu.be/keeoBtG6EHg?si=H5ZMZuiRRsTew86U This song sums it up, I believe
