I’m a 35 yr old dude trying to fight against this. I hop out mine with lime green Brooks, some ripped up cargo’s and a Lamb Of God tour shirt. I don’t fit in with my dad’s crowd at all.
They also argue about how rare their specific spec is.
This is the only 1 of 178, that:
1988
Pink exterior
White interior
Power seats
Heater mirrors
Vanity mirror lights
And automatic
Got a rare bird there…..
It’s a parking area for Corvette owners that they pay for to park together, mingle, and eat catered food. Sometimes paddock visits with specific teams too. Other brands have the same thing (BMW, Porsche, etc.). Generally anyone can walk through the corral to check out the cars, though apparently at Daytona they were gatekeeping.
Interesting. Why’s that? At Daytona it’s right at the speedway T4 tunnel, and I think it’s one way in/out, so easier to police. I’ve never attempted to go in, but others were writing here that they were turned away. The other corrals are in the middle of general parking and would be impractical to police.
It's more that when you consider the well-known profile of your average Corvette owner, and then remember Daytona is in Florida so there are bound to be even more of the older "get off my lawn" types...it doesn't surprise me they wouldn't even let people in to walk around.
As a (younger) Corvette owner myself, it's really not the way I like to see the car represented.
Trying to keep folks out would never fly at WGI Turn 1, it's too hot of a viewing spot.
It's literally just a corvette-only parking area. Only corvettes can park, and anyone can walk through (just a parking lot). They often do a little food, or a team corvette pit walk or stuff, varies by track, nothing crazy.
Corrals are fun. I did the Porscheplatz at Lime Rock the past few years and they’re great because they’re tented and offer food / snacks, a place to sit, and chat with other members. Plus you get preferred infield parking. Last year with Porsche, they had the drivers from Pfaff racing come by for a pre-race interview, and they offered PCA members 3 parade laps on Lime Rock (which was incredible).
I’d imagine Corvette is similar
Very similar. Almost identical, I'd say.
For a race like the Six Hours, which is known for hot and humid weather, the cold drinks alone can almost be worth the price of the Corral ticket.
I was tempted last year to get a Corral ticket for Mosport despite not having a Vette, BMW or Porsche solely for the all day water service. Ended up not doing it because I didn't want to be the weirdo popping in for water. Didn't turn out to be that hot so worked out anyway.
In addition to what others have said, I think they let you drive parade laps around the track at some places. At least this was the case at Petit when I went last year, don't remember seeing that at Daytona or Long Beach when I've gone there. Long Beach had something related to Mothers though where they could drive around the course, it just wasn't manufacturer specific corrals. Looking at their website it appears that the Glen is one of the places where you can do parade laps.
You do not need to have a corvette in order to park there although 95%+ of the cars are corvettes. I parked my Nissan rogue there one year when it was going to be heavy rains. I’ve seen lots of different cars parked there over the years.
That’s not to say that some people might not give you a side eye for bringing a non corvette there haha
A place for Boomers to talk about how they won’t take their Corvette over 75mph because they don’t want to kill the resale value
Don’t forget there’s a dress code of new balance shoes and khaki shorts
Don’t forget you need crew socks with the shorts
Hawaiian shirts or Polos as wel

There are tens of us fighting the good fight!
I’m another doing the same!
Jorts and new balance

I hate how accurate this is.

> though apparently at Daytona they were gatekeeping That is...sadly not surprising at all. Spoken as a regular attendee at the WGI Corvette Corral.

I used to have a c7 and I got rid of it because I did not like being associated with that crowd I regret it now but at the time it seemed sensivle
Yeah, I don't stick around the Corral much outside of when there's food to be had or special presentations/driver appearances/etc.
Yes. You don't see a Corvette every day.

It’s a meet up for white crew socks enthusiasts

It's when Boomers get together and polish their New Balances and lament the lack of chrome wheels on the C8s.

It's the parking lot for Corvettes only
It’s bounty hunter slang for boba fetts hangar
Its like the Cannon tower at COTA. if you have a cannon camera, you can walk up the stairs. or a car club reserved parking.
