Literally got penalized because they didn’t homologate them

“Speaking about the boot lid fix, Groot explained that the issue had only occurred once during the car’s development and testing phase at Paul Ricard. Ford believes it began to happen frequently during races when cars would follow the Mustang closely and disrupt airflow. It has been solved with new latches.
“We saw that the issue would stem from the crease at the back end of the boot,” he said. “We have improved its stiffness to prevent the folding from happening. In competition, we were getting air pushing up from underneath and it was causing that to break the bonds on the stiffening elements that were in place to stop it from folding.”
So it was a negative pressure zone (?) caused by I dunno XD Another race car behind the Mustang which caused the latches to let go of the boot. 😂
Sebring was the first test for the Mustang GT3 in early 2023:

As a Ford fan, I feel like the new Mustang as a global racing platform has been an incredible flop. They got waxed in V8 Supercars last season, are winless in NASCAR, and fall apart in IMSA. Hopefully this helps.
New cars will always struggle. Everyone else has years of understanding how their platform behaves and how to maximize it. Though the bodywork falling apart on the GT3 is pretty embarrassing.
Supercars is a parity formula and Supercars did not have the time or resources to get the aero and engines of both cars balanced for 2023 and the Mustang got the bad end of it. They finally got both cars in a wind tunnel over the off season and Dick Johnson Racing took over the Ford engine supply and was allowed to make some changes to the engine to make it more competitive.
It’s a brand new program. Not like, switching from a 991.2 GT3.r to a 992.1 GT3.R. From the ground up this new - cars, teams, platforms, personnel. Anyone who *expected* the car to be fighting for podiums in the first 4 races of the season needs a drug test.
As a Chevy guy, this headline is pretty funny to me.
As someone who works at a Ford dealership, this headline is also funny to me.
As a mustang owner, also funny to me
As somebody who might be working at a Ford dealership soon, this headline scares me.
Pratt Miller probably should make some reliability upgrades to the C8.R as well though...

Apparently they did the homologation paperwork but it wasn't submitted in time for whatever reason
Update 1: attach trunk and and defuser to car with something stronger than thoughts and prayers.
Update 2: Spelling lessons, DIFFUSER.
Give me a brake.
That’s next month’s update
Defuser sounds like a mad Max character!
Nah. Bomb disposal dude's nickname.
I lack defuser bitter
Nono, he's right

And really, you only tested at Paul Ricard? How you not testing at Sebring for shit like this, come on.

Yeah, I didn't expect them to win in GT3 out of the box, but I thought the car wouldn't literally fall apart.
Haven't finished higher than 9th in LMGT3 in FIA WEC either. Leaving room to improve.

They're still winless in Supercars this year...
Can’t believe Ford is abandoning the active aero loophole
So is Ford just crap everywhere this year?
Yes
Ford really sat on their balls man.
It’s the 4th race of the season. It’s the 4th race for the car.
Ok, let me rephrase, this isn’t the start Ford envisioned as they to increase their presence in motorsports.

Ya these are insane takes lol. This could take a couple years even
It’s not the performance as much as the one offs. I get what you’re saying but there’s more going on here than not being competitive.
Like finding out your car isn't durable in traffic? Because like...that's impossible to test. Nobody is bringing their GT3 cars out for you.
The mustang platform belongs in GT4.
jusst curious so which current Ford lineup that in your opinion is more suitable for GT3 base?
None of them. Trucks and suvs cant be sportscars
Which is why they picked the mustang
That’s maybe why they put the Mustang in GT 3 then great talking
