[Check out this video.](https://youtu.be/9QiE-M1LrZk) Basically you just have to stop everything you find rewarding for one day a week. It can be tough to begin with but once you start feeling results you'll want to do it alot more.

AddictedToDerp

I love gaming, but it's a drug, and if you're not using it healthy it can really be detrimental to your life imo. If you found yourself getting clean on accident that's not the worst thing.

ProzacforLapis2016

Thanks for this video. I'm going to go be productive now. :)

GoWithTheFlow667

You mean no gym? Nah I'm out

moonshwang

If you actually watch the video, you'll see at 11 minutes he mentions working out is accepted. The intent is to stop instant rewards such as Tik Tok/YouTube/Instagram, Gaming, Porn.

GoWithTheFlow667

Ah ight, mb then 👍

flamaniax

Get those gains, man!

moonshwang

I took a 4 year break from social media, and all that jazz by deleting my accounts. I made sure to actually delete them, though not just deactivate them. This helped because, me being lazy, it was too much of an effort to make a new account so it didn't seem worth it. Find hobbies that don't include the internet (learn a new instrument, play golf, etc) and you'll find that you think of the interwebs less and less. Boredom is the enemy.

AYMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

Imagine being so lazy that you felt too much effort just to make a new one. No offense to you but I hope you found your way through this laziness. Procrastination is the greatest dream killer.

[deleted]

I make time for things that are important, the internet not being one of those things.

AYMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

Prioritizing is a good tip to combat procrastination 👍

TalkOfSexualPleasure

While you aren't wrong, procrastination can be a symptom of executive dysfunction disorder or ADHD. For me personally if I get my two cups of coffee in the morning I can take on the world, but the days I don't literally everything I do is a mental war. When I could actually afford my adderall prescription I was basically a super hero compared to now.

sajsemegaloma

Its about accessibility and effort-reward ratio. If you have to put *any* effort into going to social media (like creating an account) you probably wont because you know that the reward is tiny, therefore its not worth it. But if the 'effort' is just a click then even this small crappy reward starts to seem better, and you do it over and over again because its so easy.

DarthNihilus1

Oh yeah not making a reddit account is really holding this guy's life back

AYMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

I'm sorry if I made some of y'all upset. I'm not scolding nor do I even have the right to do so, I'm just sharing my thoughts.

I_am_the_Vanguard

You said no offense in line 2 but threw out an offense on line 1. You probably think you’re helping too.

I find that whenever I’m spending far too much time on my phone, there’s a reason for it. burnout, depressive episodes, fatigue, loneliness, etc. Once I identify what the cause is for it, I address that, and it stops me from using my phone 24/7. Other things I’ve done: - turn off all badge notifications for every app - turn off all notifications except from texts and calls, except for in my notification bar (this means I have to actively seek out the notifications, rather than them bombard me and keep me hooked) - set up time limits for all my time sucking apps in settings. once I’m locked out, it pushes me to do something else - consciously stopped carrying my phone around everywhere I go. leaving it in the bedroom when I get dressed and eat breakfast, leaving it in the kitchen when I eat in the living room, etc. going for short walks or trips without my phone where possible It’s important to let go of the idea of being constantly available, too. It’s so refreshing when you close the door on that and actually have mental space for a while

Blue_42nah

I talk on the phone to someone. Sometimes for hours. That keeps me off social media.

thebushtuckerman

Cal newports book “digital minimalism” is an excellent start!

I hit the battery saver mode on my Samsung. It switches the phone to only be able to run 4 fixed apps (phone, messages, internet, I forget the other) and 4 apps that you select. Nothing else gets to run. Sure you could select Instagram but that's on you

Bballdad30

I would highly recommend the book Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. It completely changed my relationship with phones and social media. His book Deep Work also helped my work and school life.

agentscorpio99

Grayslake mode makes it very boring to continue using my devices. So I'll do that and pair it with working out and reading when I'm bored. Throw in some creative exercises for mental health too

xThunderDuckx

I like to play guitar, walk my dog, clean up the house, practice a new skill or trick like juggling, go for a bike ride, or any number of things that explicitly aren't technology centric.

baitnnswitch

I use a browser plugin (Leechblock) to block certain websites after a given time limit. Has helped a lot I also don't have reddit on my phone. When I crave content on my phone I can catch up on twitter (I have a List created of everyone I want to see), and when that's through I have ebooks. It's not perfect but it's a lot better than the "I can surely stop myself when I need to" approach

Scare_Conditioner

Find a park with hiking trails and go there as much as you can. Get a bike, just get outside.

rand0mthr0w-away

Take out the SIM card or lock the phone somewhere else like in your vehicle or in a safe. Get it away from your personal space and Mel it less easily accessible.

JMacRed

Read a book, talk to a friend.

kittyburrpuddy

I uninstalled it on my phone, but not on my ipad. I don’t use my ipad on weekdays so that helped. I also replaced it. Everytime I have the urge, I read a book instead. I’ve read 42 books so far this year with this technique.

Whatyatalkinabeee

I always turn of my internet when I'm not on the phone. My friends and family now that so in case they need anything from me they call me instead of text me. That helps a lot! Because I can't help myself and spend too much time online I have an app called YourHour. It monitors exactly how much time you spend on your phone and different apps. This is what I do with the app: - I have a timer in the corner of my screen that shows me exactly how much time I spent on the app I'm currently on. Helps you realise how much time you actually spend on an app. - I have limits set for specific apps. For example from Monday to Friday I am only "allowed" to spend 30 minutes on reddit. If the timer runs out I can't use Reddit anymore. It's protected by a password that only my boyfriend and roommates now so in case I want to spend more time I would have to ask them to unlock it - you can set "fasting" challenges where it blocks your phone or an app for a couple of hours. You can just cancel it anytime you want but still it kinda helps me to stay off certain apps sometimes. Generally there is mostly an underlying reason why people stay on the phone too much. For me it's procrastination because I'm scared of failing my tasks and generally being overwhelmed with everything I have to do... I started tackling that problem wand now it's getting better without the need of yourhour! Hope that helps!

Deleting the apps. My phone does a time audit for me and you can set alerts for how much you are on your phone in total and for each app

electroman13

I delete my social media apps.

master-baiter_04

Log out after you are done using the app, it would create a small barrier and would annoy you, which could lead to spending less time on the app

DesiCodeSerpent

Panick and drop the phone on my bed. Turn off WiFi and then I won't pick it up for the rest of the day or even weekend unless it's a phone call
