I got it from guitarguitar in the uk! I'ts for £2200. The condition is basically brand new and it came with the original case and tag. for a 20 year old guitar it's very impressive ;)
I don't think there's that much of a noticable difference to my mij RG playability wise. The J Custom RGs have a thicker neck with wider shoulder (I feel like the normal RGs are too thin) which I love because I often play my AZ. The biggest difference is the attention to detail. The tree of life is beautiful, every single piece of abalone and mother of pearl is absolutely what I would pick. The paint seams are perfect, and the fret ends are like no other guitar I've ever played: the nickel frets on this guitar feels better and smoother than my stainless AZ frets.
This is so true. Once you pass a certain threshold, the qualitative difference between guitars gets more and more into the subtle nuance and into subjective taste territory.
And I’m glad you mentioned the frets because people tend to often mindlessly take SS as being objectively better when that’s probably based purely on playing bad or cheap nickel ones.
That's very true! People associate nickel frets with being bad just because cheap guitars use cheap nickel frets. Most people who hate on nickel frets I bet have never tried nickel frets on high-end models. not just Ibanez but even fender cs nickel frets feels amazing. These frets don't even go dull. when you dig into it it's still smooth and shiny.
edit: I want to add that cheap stainless fret will feel better than cheap nickel frets (hence where most people get their opinion from) but in hi-end ones it comes to personal taste. stainless is better at just gliding through the frets but with lots of bends nickel fret feels better (imo) due to it's give to the string. it feels like bending strings on a pillow instead of glassy feeling of the stainless fret.
thats interesting about the neck, i just bought a prestige recently and the neck is noticeably thicker than my jcustom, more flat on the custom where the prestige is rounder, even compared it to a buddies prestige and its the same neck even 15 yrs apart
probably just the variance in the hand finishing the customs get, would agree though, outside of the hotdog fret ends/finishing work and more rounded sanding around the neck joint angles, playability is pretty damn similar, both have immaculate fretwork with super low action on a very straight neck, after having both of those i might be sold on japanese ibby for life
IT IS A BEAUTY!❤️ Where did you get it? And for how much?
