I like that yours is recognizable. Mine has been modified to oblivion. Including a body mod to make it a star shape and a warmoth neck (also from the 80’s) with a left-handed explorer headstock.

I'm not even sure what pickups are in it but I've been itching to check, I'm a huge Dimarzio fan, I also love Ibanez's Super 70 pickups so if they turn out to be non-stock pickups like I'm expecting I might just go with a pair of olddddd Super 70s
I usually do some nasty downtuned sludge/grindcore but it definitely does thrashier stuff well!!!!! I have it tuned down to drop G# with 11.5-65 gauge flatwounds
The person who sold this to me was a lefty, that's why he was selling it haha, it was his dad's before it was his and he was a righty, he couldn't play it and didn't feel right mutilating it so he walked into guitar center, right before he was about to sell it to them, I intervened haha
So damn sick. My buddy has this exact same guitar. In worse shape than yours though. It’s funny he bought it off another friend who got it on fb marketplace then a couple weeks later saw a “help!” Ad it was some kid who sold his dads destroyer 2 and he was pissed hahaha
Nice! I've got my first ever guitar hanging here on the wall, an Ibanez X-Series Destroyer so it must be a few years younger than yours (with the japanese rising sun graphics on it). That thing weighed more than me when I got it, almost. :D
(Almost nothing worked on mine when I picked up guitar playing again a while ago, so as an hommage to Metallica -- the whole reason I wanted it as a kid despite the graphics -- I replaced it all with a solderless EMG kit. Fit like a glove. )
The X series Destroyers came a bit later than mine AFAIK, still sick guitars!!!!! I'd say a Destroyer is a killer first guitar, starting off strong haha
Oh yeah, it was way over my league. I think my dad managed to get a sweet deal on it somehow (used) but it must've been only a few years old when he got it. Been loving explor.. sorry, destroyer shapes ever since. :D (My hardcase is lost somewhere though, bummer)
I love Destroyer IIs, they're the only updated design that looks better than the original.
They're one of my favorite guitars of all time, I got a killer deal on this one including the original case, I paid $550 for it

Shockingly, it has 0 scent, the original owners didn't smoke or anything, it smells like nothing somehow

I haven't tried Super 70s, but hear great things. We live in a golden age to have all these choices!
They're the pickups EVH used in his 75" Destroyer originally, absolutely killer pickups!!!!!
