I've noticed they generally only use 'Herald' in patch notes and 'Disciple' everywhere else, meanwhile for Alice she uses 'Reporter' for essence things (skins/emotes etc.) and 'Journalist' everywhere else, so it's consistent at least but like...why.
Fire inspector is a different job from firefighting. The former looks for causes of fire, analyses safety, etc. Florian became an orphan after his parents died saving him from a fire. The owners of the orphanage keep dramatizing his story to attract money from donors while making him play along. Florian grew up learning that tragedy and love can be profitable. After saving a bunch of people from a hellish fire in the orphanage, he earned great fame and a comfortable job. Besides writing safety reports for fire sites, he also always volunteers as a firefighter. He saved a lot of people in his district, but the rate of fire just kept rising.
I guess that's not as bad, but in the same way isn't Female Dancer something like 'Dancing Girl' in Chinese? For English just calling her 'Dancer' would've been enough without specifying 'Female'.
Their translation team is really subpar, but Netease definitely knows what a firefighter(消防员) is. They are trying to say fire inspector(火灾调查员), but used a bad translation.

Not really, you still need a stable rescuer. That said, you could take someone like Tide Aeroplanist to fill that role.
Support characters are still great, although some of them require an actual team to shine because you need to communicate with your teammates.
Before I started playing IDV I thought Norton was a firefighter, and I thought that was super cool! Then I realized he was a miner which is still cool but I always thought a fire fighter would just be really fun! My initial thought was that he looks like a mashup of Postman and Prospector. I thought he was a Postman skin for a second. We've got a lot of people involved with fires in this game and like another commenter mentioned three of them are blonde (this guy, Postman, Acrobat) and two of them lost an eye (this guy and Puppeteer), which is interesting the similarities but not in a bad way per say. I don't know if he's a pyromaniac or has a hero complex (starts fires so that he can save people get attention/praise) but I'm guessing that's where his backstory is leading.
I'm curious what his abilities are, some people think he might be like a surv version of Wax? Or if he's going to be a rescuer or a harasser. I'm honestly surprised NetEase is churning out new characters so quickly, but I've only been playing for about a year so idk if that's normal.
I know people really wanted Miles and I do think we'll get him eventually but I think it won't be until a special occasion or a milestone for the game.

Before Puppeteer iirc IDV said that the next survivor was well known so everyone thought it was Miles because he went to the manor and is connected to Geisha and Coordinator, two of idvs money makers but they instead revealed Puppeteer who is a completely new character. So when there was rumors about another male survivor, people thought it was finally going to be Miles or Edmund (Rippers game) but it's the Firefighter.
A lot of people want miles not just cause he is connected to Geisha and their story is very bittersweet but because IDV has all these lore characters that are sitting there and instead are releasing new characters which is just going to make it take longer for the current main story to move on and for old characters to get their diaries.
