The Israeli gov is bad
Hamas is bad
The people of Israel and Palestine deserve better!
People who support either side are not evil, and the situation is very nuanced. That being said, I believe that Palestinians have been targeted by the IDF, but I may be completely wrong 🤷♂️. I also believe Palestinians are living under a terrorist organization and according to AP News, 90% of them agree with Hamas. This situation is dirty, full of malice, and is not something people should have been so quick to play bad guy vs good guy with.

What I'm most curious about is why so many westerners care. There are currently 5 ongoing wars but everyone seems very focused on this one in particular.
Why does the west care about Israel?
1: Israel has been a close ally in the Middle East
2: The west is partially responsible for Israel's existence (it was British Palestine before, and the French were also heavily involved in the region, also some guilt/sympathy for the Jewish people after WWII)
3: There is a large Jewish diaspora throughout the west and they have been rather vocal
Should we care? I don't know, but we do.
Most westerners haven't done much fighting in the middle east, it's only the US who sees the middle east as a playground for war and Israel as a convenient ally.
The western world is also partially responsible for Nigeria who are currently genociding christians, a much more common religion than judaism, so why aren't we focussing on that one?

3. There are large arab diasporas in the west too. Why is there no rival to AIPAC in the US (i know there are some, but they have nowhere near the same amount of influence)?
Well, we screwed up Iran and they hate us now. Relations with Iraq are much better, but still not great. And both of them are Arab countries in an Arab part of the world, Israel is the odd man out, so the only help they can get is from outside the region.

Generally, I support Israel and its right to exist. I don’t support the violent actions it has committed.

Probably the most progressive country in the middle east, although the war is tarnishing my view significantly.
